Tonight will be a lecture about robot-soccer at the Dingfabrik in Cologne. The speech is held by Benedikt Sierck from the Team PALB, the German vize-world-champignionship winner fame. They are located the c-palb lab.

Decoded Conference München

I am happy to announce the "Decoded-Conference" in October in Munich. It is a "conference for code and design" with the focus on the gap between generative art/design and hardware/electronic tinkering. In the speakerslist included is Massimo Banzi, CTO from tinker.it and one of the Arduino-founders and other really cool people.

Location is the "Freiheizhalle München", and that is a funny name for a hall. Date: 23. October 2010.

Robodonien Cologne

Robodinien is the (until now) biggest festival for robots and art in Germany. From the 10. - 13. September 2010 the third "Robodonien" will open its door and showcase mostly bots made from metal with a good dose of art and cyberpunk. The festival-program is framed with a nice music program. Kids are welcome, too. So why not come to Cologne?

Uh, I just found this on YouTube. This evidentially homebrewed prototype of a drawing robot is looking so funny. It is just, because it looks almost scary human-like in its motions. But like a extremely clumsy (or drunken) one.

Perpetual Drawing Apparatus

Julius von Bismarck and Benjamin Maus teamed up in 2009 to build a "perpetual drawing machine". This plotter has access to 7.5 million "patent drawings", that are connected by semantic relationships. Each drawing is triggered by a keyword of one of the recent bestselling books. This work has a subtext: it tells, that patents "reflect the mindset of society in a certain time". Maybe it's just simply cool to have a "wild association machine".

The Facadeprinter is a portable machine, that fires paintballs at walls, to create sketches in an architectonical scale. The dot-like outcomes is reminding on typical old-school 4-color-dot-prints of the wooden-media.

DFKI presents Robot AILA at Hannover Messe 2010

This video of the Robot AILA makes me somehow speechless. The demonstration of this robot is flanked by a visionary speech or script, telling about intelligent robots, that enable assisting to human, especially with autonomous object-recognition etc, etc. Well if I look at this, than it's a pleasure for me to cite my collegue from Doktorsblog: "Oh Jesus, she can hold it!"

Humanoid with Spine and "Muscles"

Robotic research from Japan. They chose a new approach for building a humanoid. The structure is not based by a frame and motors, but closer to the human body - with a spine and muscle to mode and give stability. It looks, like this robot still needs further research and enhancement. It doesn't look too happy to walk at the moment. The robot can be controller with a simple PlayStation2 controller.

Hard Driving: Bots, Tweets, Sounds

Hard Driving is am art-project, where basically everyone can control some sort of robots via Twitter. You must follow the @harddrivin twitter-account. Now everytime someone tweets, the cars mode. The longer the tweet, the longer the distance of the bots. Tweets with this hashtag #harddriving will cause both cars to move. Not really an interaction, if you ask me.

The installation is somehow inspired by the old Amiga game Hard Drivin'. Someone might remember thouse beautiful vector-graphics.
