Belgian photographer Robin Vandenabeele composes surreal and dreamy double-exposure photographs using only their camera, both while traveling and at home. Some of these double exposures were created in Bruges during the pandemic when the streets were empty and the skies were clear of contrails.

Kevin Harry: “My love for photography initially started as a hobby back in the days of having to get rolls of film developed at the local drug store. As a performer, I was often frustated that I didn’t have a way to document all of the fantastic things I encountered in my travels and stage career due to bulky cameras, rising film costs, and a slowly dying media. Fast forward to the invention of the iPhone, I had a camera in my pocket all all times!

In addition to photography, I’m an actor and singer. I was fortunate enough to be nominated for Suzi Bass and Atlanta Theatre awards, one for Ragtime and one for Les Miserables. I was also named Creative Loafing’s Best Actor in 2015.”

VioletaOwl: “I have been crocheting toys for many years and very often I have leftover yarn. I collected all the scraps and the idea was born to create scrap yarn toys. That’s how it came about – cats, owls, tigers, cows, llamas, and dogs and there are still ideas for new animals. I really like crocheting them because I use scrap yarn and the toys are very colorful. By the way, I crochet them large, they are 50 cm / 25 inches. In this way, they can be not only toys but also fun interior detail.
My project name is: scrap yarn toys.”

Sunset Selfies, whimsical silhouette art by John Marshall

John Marshall’s series, titled Sunset Selfies, includes hundreds of playful silhouette artworks that each have a story to tell, featuring the artist himself as the main character.

Marshall uses simple cutting tools to cut out each silhouetted motif from cardboard. “As a writer and a filmmaker, I like to get away from the computer each day and make something with my hands,” he reveals. “So I get a big piece of cardboard, draw something, cut it out fast with a knife and scissors, then go pose with it at sunset.” As he sets up each image, Marshall always manages to incorporate his own silhouette into the scene.

John Marshall: “When I was young, I wanted to be an oceanographer like Jacques Cousteau, a cartoonist like Paul Szep, a filmmaker like Steven Spielberg, a singer like James Taylor, and a basketball player like John Havlicek. Still do.”
