Don’t be fooled by advertisements offering 1500TC count sheets at very low prices claiming to be 100% Egyptian Cotton. These sheets are really made from fine microfibers and are called something similar to Egyptian comfort sheets.

Microfibers contain common materials like polyester and poly-amides. Polyester as we know is made up of natural and synthetic substances that are not generally environmentally friendly, however there are some biodegradable polyesters available. Poly-amide is a polymer that also contains some synthetic and some natural amides and monomers like wool or nylon. These microfibers can be over 100 times finer than hair which when woven produce very smooth and soft material that offers similar comfort to real Egyptian cotton. To achieve this the fibers are woven very tight together and give the impression they are strong and feel just like Egyptian cotton, however microfiber sheets are lighter than 100% Egyptian cotton and will not last as long.

They may be cheaper than the real thing but remember Egyptian cotton 1500TC sheets are the ultimate in luxury bedding and used in wealthy residences and most high class resorts and hotels. It is renowned all over the world and has become part of Egypt’s culture and history.
