• bags or a mason jar
• orange you glad it's summer tags - download 4x6 HERE or 8.5x11 HERE
• mini clothespins
• glitter glue

putting them together:
• cover your clothespin with glitter glue and allow to dry
• fill your bags or mason jar with candy
• download, print and trim your tag. round the corners if you'd like
• use clothespins to attach the tags to the bags and some glue dots to attach it to a jar

everyone will get a kick out of these...

i mean who doesn't love a corny knock knock joke!?! :)

Last Day of School Autograph T-Shirt

I think we're starting a new tradition this year...

Autograph t-shirts for the last day of school.

Jen's the one that came up with the idea of making our own t-shirts with the Silhouette heat transfer material. The design idea came from a t-shirt done on the Silhouette blog.

I used the long banner from this shape set. Made it wider to fit my text. Added a circle in the center and welded the two shapes together.

I added the text. Everything is in my favorite font, Bebas Neue, except "autographs" is in Lobster. To make the text follow the path of the circle, read the tutorial found HERE. (So glad to find that out)

Group the entire design together and Flip Horizontally. *Very important when using the heat transfer. Select the Heat Transfer cut setting, insert the material in with the shiny side down and cut.

Remove the negative space of the design. The hook tool helps a lot.

Place the design on your t-shirt, cover with a cloth and iron on.

Remove the plastic transfer sheet and your t-shirt is ready for some autographs!!

What's the most interesting job you've had?

I worked in the laundry room at BYU washing jock straps for the football team. My friend gave me the "golden jock strap award" - she spray painted a jock strap gold.

If you could choose one super power, what would it be?

Mind reading. I over analyze everything and like details. I would love it and drive myself nuts at the same time.

As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?

A mom. Always a mom. I also wanted to be a hair stylist and own a salon and then a teacher.

What is your favorite kind of pie?

I'm not really a pie fan. But I do like a good banana cream. Never chocolate anything.

Would you rather live in Disneyland or Sea World?

TOUGH! I went to prom at Sea World. But Disneyland is always the answer. With a name like "mique" - DL is the obvious choice, right?

Did you have a nickname in high school?

My best friend nicknamed me Moose - because I have a deep laugh and sound like a moose (?!). And a boyfriend's little sister nicknamed me Energizer Bunny - because I keep going and going. I never stop talking. Shocking, no? I have lots of other nicknames from my family too.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I've been lucky to be able to travel a lot and all over the world with my family. But I'd love to go with Josh to Europe - I'd take him to the northern part of Spain and he would take me to Switzerland. I went to Spain with my family to pick up my brother without Josh. And his mom is from Switzerland so he's been several times, but I've never been.

Have you ever met anyone famous?

Do the eighteen25 girls count? :) Actually I met Billy Baldwin & Chynna Phillips at the movie theater when I was a teenager. It was before they got married... They were very nice and totally normal.

What's your favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon?

Sleep. Read. Wear pajamas. Make treats.

3 random things about Mique...

01 | I make a weird clicking noise when I sleep if I'm super tired. The only other person that I know who does it is my Mom.

02 | I was on the Homecoming Court and loved pretty much everything about high school.

03 | On our honeymoon I qualified for the kids drink vouches because I was only 20 years old. Unlimited soda for the entire cruise. Woot Woot! (we're celebrating 15 years this summer :)

We hope you've enjoyed getting to know some fun things about Mique as much as we have. She really is an amazing woman and it makes us so happy to be able to call her our friend!!

Our Front Porch Makeover with Home Depot : Part Three

If you've been following along with our Front Porch Makeover, you've read about our plan, shopped for supplies with us and now we are ready to get to work installing our new tiles.

We're working with an existing outdoor surface, but remember, you can also install envirotiles on level dirt or even in basement areas inside your home.

Make sure your area is free of all debris before getting started. (keep your broom and/or shop vac nearby - you'll need it to clean up after making cuts)

To see how the tiles are going to fit, lay a row down the width and length of your area. Then you'll know if any of them will need to be trimmed.

Our tiles were a little longer than the width, so we knew we were going to have to cut some off of the side that went against the house. That left the tiles along the outer edge looking nice and smooth.

We started in the corner and worked our way down each row and then over.

(If you're working with all straight edges, you can follow the instructions HERE, starting in the center of your area)

There were a few spots with cement clumps that we chiseled out of the way to make sure the tiles would be flush against the walls.

For trouble spots that require some trimming, you're going to want to measure how much needs to be trimmed...

And mark your measurements on the tile using a marker (or chalk). Our wall wasn't completely straight, so we had to take two measurements, one at both ends.

Connect the two measurements with the straight edge...

And using a utility knife, score successive lines while bending the tile up to get the scoring line deeper. We ended up using a hack saw to speed up the process.

Place your tile in the space to see if it needs anymore trimming.

Once you have a perfect fit, put your clips into place. (Since our tiles were going on flat concrete, we used the connector clips instead of the adhesive.)

Lay your tile down on top of the connector clips...

and using your rubber mallet, hammer the tile down flat. (Make sure everyone in the family is there to watch you, even the dog.)

Once the job was finished, I sprayed the area off really good to remove all the dirt from the tiles (Since they had been sitting outside, they were pretty dirty)

And now I'm ready to accessorize!!

Our Front Porch Makeover with Home Depot : Part Two

We decided on a plan for the front porch, got our supply list ready and made a trip (around the corner) to The Home Depot.

Here is what's needed for installing envirotiles...

1-envirotiles | 2-mallet | 3-silicone rubber adhesive or clips | 4-straight edge | 5-measuring tape

6-utility knife | 7-knee pads | 8-garden spade | 9-tamper | 10-chalk or marker

(you'll only need 8 + 9 if installing in soil)

Luckily, we had most of the supplies from when we installed our wood floors, so we were only after the tiles and clips this time. And they were both located outside in the garden center.

Before leaving the house, we measured the front porch and figured out how many of the 18 inch square tiles we were going to need. (this handy little sign can help too)

I'd like to take credit for loading all 48 tiles onto the cart, but I can't. (As a matter of fact, I didn't even load the clips onto the pile either.) Luckily, my other half is more than happy to join me on these shopping trips.

We got what we needed.

And now it's time to get to work!!

Orange Party Punch

This yummy party punch is a bit of Orange Julius meets Orange Creamsicle.

Serve it at your next party or make it for a special treat for your family this summer!

Ingredients:

• 4 cups vanilla ice cream

• 4 cups of orange sherbet

• 1 (6 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate - [half of the can shown in picture]

• 1 (2 liter) bottle of ginger ale or 7-Up

Directions:

Place the ice cream and sherbet in a punch bowl and allow to thaw for 10-15 minutes. Stir in the orange juice concentrate and ginger ale and serve!

[From the Recipe Box] Mom's Poppy Seed Bread

So, in honor of Mother's Day,

we are sharing a recipe with you that is one of our mom's.

This poppy seed bread is loved by many

and we hope you will like it too!

It's very moist

and has a super yummy glaze that is drenched on top.

Mom's Poppy Seed Bread

(makes 2 loaves)

Add:

• 2 1/4 c. sugar

• 3 eggs

• 1 1/2 c. milk

• 1 1/2 T. poppy seeds

• 1 1/2 t. vanilla

• 1 1/2 t. almond extract

• 1 1/2 t. butter flavoring

• 1 c. + 2 T. oil

Then add:

• 3 c. flour

• 1 t. salt

• 2 t. baking powder

Glaze:

• 1/4 c. orange juice

• 3/4 c. sugar

• 1/4 t. butter flavoring

• 1/2 t. almond extract

• 1/2 t. vanilla

Grease and flour your loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool bread for 10 minutes then, pour glaze on top.

Chipboard Instagram Booklet

When the three of us went to CHA earlier this year,

we were pretty excited to see the new products Silhouette was coming out with.

The chipboard was one of them.

I love that it's more durable than regular paper and cardstock.

And the Silhouette still cuts through it nicely.

Project ideas have been swimming around in my head.

After coming across the CD Holder Card shape, I decided to make a little keepsake booklet for each of the kids to store Instagram photos from this school year.

SUPPLIES

• chipboard

• patterned paper (papers used here are from echo park)

• instagram photos

• white cardstock

TO MAKE

• Open the CD Holder Card shape and type out your text, making sure it will fit inside the left square.

*I used the font bp script and welded each word together (right click - weld)

• Select Chipboard under cut settings and cut.

• Fold shape at perforations and glue inside flap down.
• Cut a 4 1/2" square out of your patterned paper, adhere to the front of card.
• Attach your words to a 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" strip of white cardstock and glue down.
• Fill the inside pocket with favorite instagram photos throughout the school year. (I printed mine out on 4x6's, leaving a white border around them - but you can have them printed from your phone using this awesome tutorial from My Sister's Suitcase)

These could be fun for your kids to collect each year. And would make great little gifts for the older kids to give to their friends too. Just wrap them up with twine or ribbon and they're ready to go.

Our Front Porch Makeover with Home Depot : Part One

We've owned our home for about a year and a half now, rented it for about three and a half years before that. The list of upgrades/improvements we want to make is about a mile long. But, unfortunately the house didn't come with a money tree in the back yard, so it'll take some time to cross those items off our list.

Last November, we were able to cross one of the big boys off the list when we (my husband) installed wood floors. We went with the Millstead Antique Maple Bronze flooring from The Home Depot.

This year, we're working on the yard. Starting in the front, with the porch.

We want this space to scream WELCOME when our guests walk up to the front door. And having a place for me and the hubs to hang out in at the end of the day, would be pretty nice too.

We have a plan in mind that involves Envirotiles from The Home Depot. There are different shapes, colors and sizes to choose from. We're thinking about going with the Gray Cobblestone Paver. We'll get the look of real stone pavers, but they're actually eco-friendly rubber tiles recycled from old tires. We weren't really out looking for an environmentally friendly product, but it makes us feel good to know that they are. An added BONUS!!

So, now it's time to get shopping!!

Hi, I'm Carol Monson and I just opened an Etsy shop filled with some of my favorite things! I've been sewing my entire life and have given handmade gifts to family and friends for as long as I can remember. It's with their encouragement that I've started this venture and I hope you like what you find. Take a trip to paradise in the heart of Las Vegas as the Springs Preserve celebrates the music, food and culture of Hawaii and Polynesia at the inaugural Ohana Festival, Saturday, May 18th, from 10 am to 4 pm.

Commemorating Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month and highlighting the importance of ohana (family) in Pacific Island cultures, the event will feature performances by local hula halau, beginner hula lessons, lei making, crafts and games for the keiki (kids), and plenty of ono grinds (great food). The festivities will culminate with a concert by the multi-faceted duo, The Kalama Brothers.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 and older. Children ages 4 and under are free. Guests also will receive half-off admission to all Springs Preserve museums and galleries with paid admission to the Ohana Festival. For more information, visit www.springspreserve.org.

We are excited to share today's Mother's Day Project with you...

We Think You're Awesome

Painted Photo Bottles

These are so fun, easy and inexpensive to make. We hope you'll give them a try.

supplies:

• glass bottles with corks - we found these at Michaels for $1.19

• paper clips

• photos

• Awesome print - download 4x6 HERE

• acrylic paint - the colors we used are: craft smart - ocean breeze, robins egg blue and aqua

and apple barrel - pure pink, light yellow and bright blue

the how-to:

• pour your paint directly into the jar and swirl it around until the entire inside is covered

• if you have a lot of excess paint... pour it out or let the jars sit upside down and drain for a couple minutes

• let the jar dry at least 24 hours

• use a knife to cut a slit in the top of the cork then insert your paper clip

• print your photos and trim - we had ours printed at costco - wallet size (4 come on a 5x7)

• print the Awesome tag and trim

then decide how you'd like to group them:

pictures and the print...

just the print...

[there is a tag included that reads - I think you're awesome - as well]

just pictures...

of course these would make fun gifts for more than just Mother's Day.

Mother's Day Gift

Mother's Day is now less than 2 weeks away

and we are excited to share a couple gift ideas with you.

Today's project includes one of our most favorite things...

t w i n e

and we all agreed that we'd be more than happy to receive some yummy twine for mother's day.

supplies:

• mason jar

• spray paint (optional)

• unfinished wooden doll pins

• cardstock - we used kraft cardstock

• coordinating scrapbook paper

• glue dots

• twine

• "You are the string..." tag - download HERE

• spray paint your lid the color of your choice.
• wrap your twine around the doll pins.
• fill your jar with the rolls of twine and add the lid when it's dry.
• print and trim your tag and coordinating scrapbook paper and glue together.
(i used an old ink pad to ink the edges of both papers before i glued them together)
• using glue dots - attach your tag to the mason jar.
(my paper didn't reach all the way around the jar, but still looked fine. :))

you could use this idea for sisters, aunts and grandmas as well!

the download also includes a version that can be used for your friends and important people not in your family.
