After a bitterly cold winter, all you need is a bright colour jumper to keep you energised and fashionable in Spring. The perfect bright colour and easy to style is Lemon. Yes! Lemon. Lemon is quite admissible to Emerald, one of this season hot colours according to Pantone. What more you could you possible want? It is easy to go wrong with it because it doesn't compliment everybody's skin tone. Olive and Dark skins have more complimentary texture with Lemon more than lighter skin tones. However, your eyes and hair colour can be a great factor to determine the suitability of Lemon for you.

How do I wear it?
Well, you can find many items in lemon- accessories, tops, jackets and even shoes. Be careful with mixing too much colour with Lemon. It can make you look like Pete the drag Master. Wear lemon with black or white. Keep it simple, chic and classy. I styled this Sloane Crew jumper with sleek black and gold. The gold gives it a glamourous look perfect for a night out.

Welcome to the first post of this year. It has been a wonderful break from blogging. I am happy to be back on the scene for hot new fashion trends and gossip. Being away from blogging was not necessarily away from fashion! I was working on Eighteen Forever new fashion project which is a clothing line for modern and fashion conscious women. I cannot wait to unveil this project to you all. It is a vision to reality project, considering the huge financial bearing and long hours of research and writing. In the midst of all things fashion, it was great to take some time out and create an outfit fit for Autumn but created in winter. Colour is never out of the detail where creating an outfit is concerned on this blog, but this time, creating an unusual modern look with two bright colours and zebra print is highly daring.

A culmination of two sister’s love for fashion, their African heritage and London, Iconicity Fashion was born In the summer of 2012 in South West London. Using an intrinsic balance of creativity and business, together Beatrice and Kelly have worked diligently and harmoniously to develop the extremely successful campaign ‘Africa is on your street’. Iconicity established a strong reputation by dressing many prominent members of the UK African entertainment community, such as Theodora Ibekwe at the Women for Africa Awards, Miss Victoria Chi-Chi Okafor , Jacqueline Matovu and aspiring model Fashwa Luke.

Iconicity has also designed African inspired costumes for beauty pageants such as Miss Uganda UK, Miss Cameroon UK, Miss Congo UK, Miss Ghana UK, Miss West Midlands and Miss Black Africa. Recently, Iconicity has been asked to feature in the Styleafriq show in Birmingham for Fabafriq Magazine, visiting Calgary, Canada for the Afrikadey! Festival to show the latest ready-to-wear range and lately the AMfest 2012.

Although still emerging, the designs have also been showcased at London's Fashion's Finest, Kenya's Young Achiever's award and published on All Africa Fashion. Iconicity has recently been featured in the Hounslow Multicultural Festival at the Paul Robeson Theatre.

Sequins, Glitters and Sparkle

Glitters, sequins, spikes, studs are all part of AW12 top fashion trends. Sparkles and sequins are distinctly favoured on this blog. Predominantly, sequins and glitters are perceived as what I call the 3Cs- cheap, cheesy and cherazz. You avoid the 3Cs at all cost. During my research on the history of fashion, sequins, glitters and sparkles were not recorded to any era. They evolved through different styles and accessories. However, post 2000 saw a transition of sequins, sparkles and glitters from 3Cs to chic courtesy of high fashion designers during fashion weeks in New York, Milan, Paris and London. Main designers during this era were Alexandra McQueen, Karl Lagerfield, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Vera Wang and Christian Louboutin.

Sequins are perfect for festive season party wear, and it is that time of year- with glamour, family, friends and the endless Christmas or new year night out. Choosing an outfit is electrifying, but for some a great act of despair It can be the latter if you're not fashion conscious The first step is to always vision yourself in an outfit, then focus on creating something unique with it either with accessories, your hair or even make-up. For my recent outing, I opted for Silver Primary Hue Bodycon Velvet Dress from Topshop £40, Miss Selfridge Shoe £55, Necklace from New Look £12.99, tight from River Island £10. What is festive wear without a hint of colour- Na da! This make-up took 10 minutes. I used L'Oreal Hydrating Moisturiser Witch Primer, Gosh BB Cream, MAC Foundation and Sleek Lip Stain.

Fashion in Aid of Cancer Research UK

The fashion show and a gig in aid of Cancer Research UK took place on 4^th October 2012 in one of the most famous clubs in London “Jalouse” and was organised and produced by Edyta Grace who put together a show including people from different cultures. The audience saw incredible collections by the following designers: Rabbaney Skakeel, Angel Sadel, Mz fashion, JB Afrique, Be You T which were worn with grace and style by professional models including Gabriella Gatehouse the current Miss teen England Royal Galaxy and the Miss Teenager England 2012, male winner of Top Model of Colour 2011 Raphael Olaiya.

The audience was entertained by an international artist Randolph Matthews, Antarma and J-Sol who performed his debut single “Alien”.

Nana Afua Antwi – Top Model, designer , founder of Akosua Odei Foundation was co-hosting the event with Lewis-Duncan Weedon, Ohema and Jordine Bartlett making sure that the event went smoothly and that the auction is going to be successful.

Stuart Phillips, a hairdresser to the stars, three times official BAFTA hairdresser and world's most expensive stylist offered a cut & blow-dry in his swanky Covent Garden Salon, cut & styled by the man himself to a person who gives the best offer during the auction and we had the winner who paid £150 for the voucher raising money for the charity.

The event was attended by people from fashion industry– Gerald McCann –, Danish Wakeel, Angela Plummer – 13 times award winning hairstylist, Janita Francis, Lisette Mibo and many fashion designers.

Sir Trevor McDonald, Fabrice Muamba, Eddie Kadi & More

On the 27th of October, I attended the BEFFTA Awards an event only by invitation. This was my second experience and I have been looking forward to it since the launch party at Mayfair. Before the event, a congratulations message was posted on Eighteen Forever Facebook page for newlywed Fabrice Muamba. It was a surprise meeting him. The event was as always spectacular with lots of entertainments and surprises. I can tell you Fabrice is one of the nicest, gentleman I have ever met. When asked for a picture, he looked unexpectedly surprised and of course willing. I thought that was really humble of him. He presented an award and thanked everyone for their support throughout his ordeal. Sir Trevor McDonald was present to receive a lifetime achievement award. His speech was inspiring yet full of humour. He joked about aiming for "Best Male Model" but missed out. Really? Moving on....a surprise performance from Star Boy Nathan and his mother Gil who was super entertaining and a little bit manic. But it was great!! Other top personalities were present- Lamar, May7even, Adebayo Jones, presenters, designers, models and more.......

Sir Trevor McDonald inspired me with his speech during his award for Lifetime Achievement in Television *special moments*

The funniest guy ever- Eddie Kadi host the show with founder of BEFFTA Awards Pauline Long. Eddie Kadi is a record breaker- He happens to be the first African Comedian to sell out tickets for his comedy show at the O2 Arena. Edz-dazzling!!!!

I opted for a Black PU and lace panel bustier peplum dress from River Island. I heart the straps- they are detailed in gold florals.

The guy in the middle is a photographer who decided to take a picture with someone else's award. What a grim!!

With May7even- If you don't know who she is then Google it. She is an Afrobeat/RnB singer based in London. Her first single was in the top 40 UK hits chart 2011. She won best female artist at this year's BEFFTA- well done!!

One of the guest at the award ceremony and finalist at Top Model of Colour UK 2012. This dress is slim fit to her figure but the hair and accessories should have been given extra attention.

Why Do Women Wear High Heel Shoes?

In the last few months, I have been feeling some excruciating pains in my back and it seems this has transported to my left toe. I worry going to the GP will waste time and well I know what he/she might say “lay off heels and get some flat shoes”. Just like they always say! So like any smart young lady will do, I decided to keep on some painkillers and accept it will go away in time. Then it suddenly occurred to me that I cannot live on painkillers for the rest of my life. I need to do something drastic that would relief the pain- and fast. So I am opting for flat shoes! It seemed like the scariest thought I’ve ever had. This is proving rather difficult after a week. Much effort is needed to accomplish this aim. In respect of this, I embarked on a research leap to find out- why women wear heels. Why women chose to ignore the evasive discomfort to mere pleasure- if at all is it pleasure when it hurts. Logically, the answer is simple- we just feel good in it.

Personally, I heart high-heeled shoes because they are attractive. The thought of not wearing them anymore really scares me. They are elegant in shape, supports good body posture and most of all created for different fashion styles. My favourite “Rouge” heel as seen in the picture below is styled with an African print.

Recent research by the savvy foot care company Compeed revealed that British women wear high heel shoes than their European counterparts. British women on average wear a 3.3inches heel compare to 2.4inches in France and 2.7 in Germany. From this result, I can fairly interpret this information by concluding that British women on average are shorter than women in France and Germany. British women admitted to endure the pain caused by high heels because they are perceived as prestige. Hence, perception is a key factor to women’s decision to wear high heels.

So what are the medical effects of wearing such high heels?

A study by Dr. Kerrigan et al explored the effects of footwear on the knees. Their result showed high relationship between heels and strains on the knees. Therefore, all heels have detrimental effect on the knees which is likely to cause osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis otherwise known as wear-and-tear arthritis is as a result of degeneration of cartilage in the joint resulting to severe pain and loss of motion in the joint. That is not all; wide-heel shoes are of greater risk than narrow heel shoes because greater force is placed on them. So if you are opting for wider heels with the assumption that it is safer and low-risk to your muscle- think again!

So is it worth it? I think not!

From my findings, it is clear that all heeled shoes have incurable health effects. They can be controlled with painkillers, but is that a wise lifestyle when you can purchase fashionable flats less than your health value.

What happens when bright colour make-up meets bright colour fashion? One word- colouration. Yes- I know "colouration" does not exist. I just couldn't find the right word- had to define it in my own word. Nothing wrong with it though. Never thought I would see bright colour fashion and bright colour make-up with a flare of Indian culture mixed into a single shoot- but I did and it was incredibly mind-blowing. Eighteen Forever fashion line was part of RuShee photo shoot in Liverpool few weeks ago. The shoot took place at Bluecoat art space right in the middle of the city center You can imagine the attention this created. The perfect location for such impeccable creation!! Well done RuShee and thank you for the invitation.

Another hectic week off my schedule. It all started with the undergraduate recruitment fair in London, followed by the BEFFTA (Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television Arts) Awards nomination launch party on Wednesday 26th September at Babble Mayfair- then Face of Colour audition and photo shoot in Birmingham on Saturday 29th September at the Custard Factory. Uhh.... It's exhausting but fun!! BEFFTA launch party was prodigious!!!! Lots of people attended- celebrities, bloggers, presenters' and of course emerging talents' too. One thing I admire the most about BEFFTA Awards is its "inclusiveness". Everyone is given the chance to share their talents and gain well deserved recognition. This year's nomination launch party was hosted by Mr Adebayo Jones aka King of Couture. He is one of the most humble people I have ever met. His designs are high-fashion couture, heritage and ladylike. Loved the showcase at Africa Fashion Week London in August.

The highlight of the event is the nominee announcement. I am so humbled and delighted to be nominated for Blog of the Year in just 8 months of establishment. Thank you to everyone who nominated. Voting opens 7th of October #EighteenForever.

Fashion wise, it was average I guess everyone is saving their style-savv for the award night on the 27th of October at The Hippodrome North London. I cannot wait to see you all there.

Red hair, yellow heels, blue clutch bag? Yep! Embracing colour is the new paradigm in fashion. Take a bliss......Why not try a hint of colour with your outfit. My focus on this outfit is the shoe from Milano £65- however you cannot ignore the cut-out tailored pencil dress from Oasis £80. I wore this dress on my graduation in January - not with the shoe of course. This outfit is "classy meets bright colour" which is unique but intensified. To avoid looking like a drag rather than a chic because of the "red hair"- I opt for supreme and natural make-up with a long-stain lipstick in nude colour from KIKO. Did you just ask where the earrings are from? One place for statement accessories particularly those inspired by Africa- drum roll please.....its..... Topshop!!

Remember- fashion is about experimenting and evolving with shapes, patterns, styles and presentation. Just give it a try and have fun doing it!!

10 Office Outfits You Can Wear

When it comes to office-wear, it can be very difficult to decide what is "smart", "acceptable" and perfect for our body shape. From all of the outfits created, few items stand-out the most....blazers, skirts, A-line dresses and LS Shirts. This is not to say that blouses are not acceptable because they are. But you have to be sure of your body-shape before shopping for them. Blouses can make you look bigger!! Make sure you try them on. Blazers are great and an easy way to turn a casual look into a smart and attractive outfit. They are every fashionistas must-have "IT" item. If you are the type that works long hours and travel often, a mid-heel shoe would be perfect with your outfit. My job requires travelling and sometimes touring (on campus), I always have a flat shoe in my bag for "just-in-case" situations...if you know what I mean. It is important to think of your health when it comes to heels and make-up. Too much of it can be detrimental to your health!!

Nana Afua Antwi: Britain's Top Model

My previous post about Nana was by mere opportunity. I found Nana's profile on Fashions Finest website and decided to write about her on the blog. Now I got the chance to interview her. Are you asking....who is she? Here is a bio about her!!

Nana Afua started modelling when she was scouted at H&M in Central London mid 2009. Same year she started her catwalk experience at La geneve north events working for establish and emerging designers. Nana Afua is one of the few African models to recently grace September/August Issue 2011 of Black hair Magazine which was voted best cover celebrating black beauty in America. She also appread in Pride Magazine as the face of the feature for 'real women' and did editorials for Fabulous Magazine. Nana Afua has walked in London Fashion Week for Matthew Williamson and the face for E'lon Cosmetics in America. She has grace most fashion and lifestyle magazine in the UK and also for American Online Magazine E'lon.

She has appeared in the Barking & Dagenham Post Newspapers six times continuous spread for her work ethic as well as the The Voice (newspaper). Nana Afua is an upcoming fashion designer with the clothing brand 'adopted culture' which was selected for Vogue Fashion's night out September 2011. In record the label is the first ethincal brand to ever grace Savile Row in Sartoria Bar Central London. She won Best Female Model of the year in October 2011 for Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television Awards (BEFFTA Awards).

Hi Nana, from the recent online voting, you have been titled Britain’s Top Model. How did you get into this ranking and how do you feel been No 1?

Honestly have no idea how I got into the Hottest British Fashion Models ranking it’s been 8weeks and still voted No 1 so that’s a dream come true.

Have you always aspired to be a model? Be honest *smiles*

Modelling has been part of me growing up so it’s definitely something I passion to pursue

If not, what were your ambitions?

My ambitions were to be a Model and a fashion Designer which I am doing now so very pleased with that accomplishment having said that I always thought I would be a lawyer.

Who are your role models in this industry?

My role model in the modelling industry right now will be Tyra Banks the more I watch her I want to be better than her ‘laughs’

Have you ever comprised your principles or values to meet the want of a designer or your agent?

Well they say models don’t have a say in the industry but am kind of a girl that always say my mind. I do respect the job of a designer and an agent but still confident to make my point across if inconvenient.

What was going through your mind when you were ripping the runway at AFWL?

Freedom! that’s how I feel whenever I hit the catwalk

What is your highlight(s) of the event (AFWL)

Finale show for Adebayo Jones was fantastic finally got my ‘Yes Dress ‘signed by himself for me to grace on the catwalk

Describe “Adopted Culture”?

Adopted Culture is a clothing brand with an idea of different blend of fabrics to create unique creativity.

Adopted culture was not exhibited or showcased at AFWL. What happened?

Adopted Culture was showcased last year’s AFWL. I don’t rush making loads of collection just to show off. As a designer I study the market and know when to promote my samples

What’s in your handbag?

I love shoulder bags with a little funky twist. I am a big fan of big bags as well

How often do you go for beauty treats?

I must say I’ve never had beauty treats outdoor I do my own beauty treats I don’t like wearing makeup so I like staying natural at most occasion

Congratulations on your TV show!!

Describe your fashion style for your presenting role?

One word CHIC

Care to share some future projects?

Probably acting it’s something I feel I was born to do as well it runs in my personality

Advice to aspiring models?

Well just keep doing you not just for attention but as a positive role model

organiser's appear. A newly established event organiser and retail outlet to support both existing and

emerging design is "Anglo Nubia". The company will be launching its first fashion showcase “Africa,The

Experience” at the prestigious Millennium Gloucester Hotel on Saturday the 27th October 2012. Situated in

the fashionable district of South Kensington in London, the stunning hotel has been the first choice in venue

for fashion shows, for Look Magazine and big fashion retailer such as Zara.This red carpet event will be

hosting individuals from all walks of the fashion and entertainment industry. Anglo Nubia is giving designers

the opportunity to showcase their designs to an array of individuals from buyers and fashion gurus to

investors and fashion publications.

Are They Animal Killers?

It was only two weeks ago when Lady Gaga was slammed by PETA for wearing a Fur Coat. This sent the internet to meltdown. In a report, the Paparazzi singer expressed her right to fashion. Guess who made the hate list this time? The one and only hopeless place singer "Rihanna". She has officially managed to get herself on the most "hated" and "talked" about list of 2012 in the space of one week. Starting with her interview with Oprah where she made the not surprising confession that she still has strong feelings for her ex-boyfriend "Chris Brown". Rihanna is no stranger to controversy but a clammed stranger to apology. She is not alone, many celebrities particularly A-listers have a surge for causing a media storm. They have a fat appetite for "fame". But is it the right attention?

The media plays a urge part of this frenzy I describe as "fame-nastic" because it is no longer a major source of information but a major promoter of tabloids. Bad news is news and good news is unknown. Once upon a time, only good people and well behaved citizens made the list. Not anymore!

On the flip side, we have human right. The right to speech, right to movement and I would also add...right to wear whatever we want and when we want it. So what is the moral grounds on this issue?

Well, I'm not a vegetarian, neither do I work for PETA or understand their purposeful foundation. However, I believe this controversial topic is worth exploring!

The Effect Of Media Idealised Images On Women Body Satisfaction

Yesterday was the event "The media, You & Your body" which took place at Liverpool Hope University. The attendance wasn't quite what I had expected, however, it was an insightful and interesting documentary. I would share this in the next few weeks, so watch this space.

I must say, I was really surprised by some of the points raised by the ladies, especially this... "The media is not a major risk, but the society we live in". Well, the media is part of this society, in my opinion a major driving force in the world.

One of the most important accessory in your wardrobe is your handbag. They are visual art with delightful patterns to the female arm. We need them all day, everyday. Bags are important accessories because they express our personality and protect our personal belongings wherever we go. The mistake we make is owing too many, therefore loosing the purpose of styling them. It is advisable that you invest in unique styles and colours that can be wearable differently without loosing the edge of your style. We often think that we don't have to wear the same things twice. The question is....why not?

Bags have evolved considerable over the years. They are constantly on the extremes; oversize bags for weekend getaways or the gym and the really small clutches that your perfume cannot fit into. The picture below depicts variety of styles and colours for different occasions. I particularly adore "Kate Spade New York Clutch Bag £223.10 (top right). It is unique, stylish and definitely worth every penny. I would style it with a lacy purple dress, black stiletto and gold jewelleries. Yep....colour YORK it ladies!

Exhibitors at AFWL 2012

Getting to Africa Fashion Week at Spitafields market was not as stressful as I projected. It was a pleasant journey considering the Olympics frenzy and the weekend. I was quite nervous because I was by myself and a press member for the first time. But it was OK. Met lots of really nice fashion bloggers. The organisers executed a great show overall but the order of presentation for press members was a total failure. I registered for a press pass in April and received two confirmations in July, yet I was not registered on the list. It was so embarrassing to say the list. The problem is lack of coordination and over booking. From what I saw, there were six A4 pages of press members list. Seriously! How is this reasonable or attainable? I hope the organiser's can take on-board this aspect of the show and make it a stress-free registration process. Overall, it was a fanastic event!

Unleash Your Lady Side

Is it me or has the great British weather turn itself around to accommodate the Olympians and their visitors. Another beautiful day and lucky for me a very relaxing Sunday. It might not seem that way if I'm blogging, does it? Well I must say I feel like blogging when I'm relaxed and reflective from my week's activities. This week outfit is moving away from Neon which I posted last-week to Coral-reef. This is a stretch of colour but also style.

Last-week shoot was bright colour fashion and casual chic style. This week I have gone for bright colour and a cross between Parisienne and Ladylike style.

Some associate ladylike style with length dresses, exaggerated flare skirt and everything extra on the flattering female figure. But this is not really the case. Ladylike fashion originates from the 1950s with poised style and confidence. The fashion in those days was well tailored, cut-out and distinctive. Women were recognised for their distinct fashion style and classic beauty. Take a look at Zoe for instance, she is working a ladylike style with a crop top. From a distance, you would think its a dress. It works for her with the shoe and hair style. This style is beyond wearing a flare dress or skirt, it includes your accessories as well. See some other ladylike style by others I admire.....
