WBR Winter 2008/09 Clothing Range Now Available

Back in May, we completed our latest project for WBR World Beach Rugby. The project involved the addition of a new style of vintage clothing to the existing clothing and t-shirt designs.

This new style of clothing brought up a whole new set of problems for the designs. There was new fabrics, new finishes and new swing tickets and patches to design. All had to be in keeping with the vintage / classic theme.

It total, we designed four new rugby shirt designs for the winter range. Once we had received the final pre-production samples we paid another visit to our favourite photographer Mike Evans who produced some beautiful shots for the website and brochure.

WBR World Beach Rugby has gone from strength to strength since we began designing their clothing range back in 2006. Sales have just topped 15,000 pieces, all sold directly from their online store.

Not being able to sit around for too long, we moved straight on to designing the Summer 2009 clothing range which will feature a new set of rugby shirts, hooded Sweatshirts, shorts, caps and t-shirts. We are currently at the sampling stage and the range is looking great.

So after a very busy couple of months here at eightyone design, we finally have some time available to update our website.

We are so sorry for the lack of updates recently but rest assured we have a couple of exciting new design projects that we are currently working hard to complete including new logo designs, new website designs and a new clothing range. As soon as we have more information (and a spare moment) we will publish the latest news right here.

We have also been hard at work publishing articles for our graphic design blog. Since moving the blog to a popular blogging platform in May, we have received over 20,000 article views and over 200 comments from fellow graphic designers.

Nice comments for Wakeham Asbestos

We recently completed a complete branding exercise for Wakeham, an Asbestos Training and Consultancy company based on Paignton, South Devon. The startup company specialises in a a wide range of asbestos training schemes as well as asbestos management and surveying.

Wakeham were very sure about what they wanted from their new logo and branding. They felt that they needed something strong with striking presence to appeal to their predominantly male dominated market. We designed a logo which was simple yet bold, and this style was carried through to a range or corporate company stationary including business cards and letterheads.

Company Director, Ian Wakeham commented: "We are really pleased with everything and think both the business card and letterhead look great. Better than great!!! We receive lots of positive comments about our stationery; in particular how professional they look and feel."

After the completion of the work, we posted an article on our Graphic Design Blog outlining the entire process we went through when re-branding the company. Since then, we have received a number on really nice comments regarding the designs (one of which actually came from a fellow Asbestos Company based in Kent).

World Beach Rugby Summer 2008 Collection

We can't believe it has almost been a year since the launch of World Beach Rugby, a rugby clothing brand based in Paignton. I think that it's safe to say that the brand has grown much quicker than we all thought.

Back in September we got the call to say that the Winter range of the World Beach Rugby clothing has sold phenomenally and that a very large Summer 08 range was being planned. After two very long months we finally finished the new collection in November. The new range comprises of 42 pieces including caps, hoodies, rugby shirts, polos, flip flops, shorts and t-shirts.

The designs for this collection contain a mixture of different textures and clothing techniques from detailed embroidery, raised print, applique lettering to vintage washes.

Since finishing the clothing designs we have been kept busy creating the full marketing campaign ready for the launch of the Summer collection.

There is a shiny new WBR website which showcases and sells the collection. Once again we worked with the Newton Abbot based web company, Flipside, who created the e-commerce element of the site.

To coincide with the new range, World Beach Rugby are throwing a competition to win one of ten £100 gift vouchers to spend on the new WBR website. To promote the competition and website we created a full page advert which will be featured in Rugby World magazine throughout the Summer.

And finally, we also had the chance to design a fresh new catalogue for the range. We were lucky enough to work with Mike Evans Photography who shot the entire collection in his studio in Stokeinteignhead.

Superior Site for Superior Fitness

We have been hard at work finishing off our latest design project for the Torquay based Personal Training Company, Superior Fitness.

Superior Fitness offers personal training services to individuals of any fitness level throughout Torbay and the surrounding area including Paignton and Brixham.

Company Director and Personal Trainer Jon Ellery required a website showcasing the range of services the company offers as well as some glowing testimonials from grateful clients. Jon liked the smooth animation of the 2007 World Beach Rugby website, so we set to work designing a small Flash based website.

Jon Ellery commented: "I love the look of my new site, the clean and crisp design is exactly what I was after, thank you."

Stay at Home Pets

Following on from the launch of this Pet Services Company, Stay at Home Pets, it seems that the newly formed company is going from strength to strength.

Back in November, Eightyone Design completed a whole range of work for the start up company who required full branding and logo creation as well as a range of literature, stationary and a promotional website.

Since then business has gone through the roof. The Managing Director comments 'We have had many enquiries not only from people who would like to make use of the services we offer, but also from people wanting to join our team and become a pet carer. The phone has been non-stop with eight new clients contacting me in one day alone!'

New website for online Ski retailer

Mission Adventure, the online Ski retailer based in Brixham have taken the exciting step of closing their shop and focusing on the e-commerce area of their business.

To co-incide with the closing of the shop, Company Directors Alex and Sheena wanted to re-launch the Mission Adventure website with a new look. Working alongside Flipside Web Design based in Newton Abbot, Eightyone Design created a contemporary and fresh design, appealing to Mission Adventures wide range of markets with Flipside handling the programming and implementation of the new website.

Due to the success of the Summer collection of World Beach Rugby fashion wear Lovell Rugby (the UK's No1 rugby specialist) got back in contact with Eightyone Design to create the Winter 07 range, which is now available to purchase from the Lovell Rugby website.

Blogging It

Here at eightyone design we have been hard at work jotting down our thoughts and turning them into entries for our new blog. We have created the column to not only act as a platform to air our thoughts, but to also lend a hand to new Graphic Designers needing help and advice on techniques and software.

Congratulations - again!

After Vic Ellery's win to become chairman of Brixham Council we weren't surprised when he came to us for another flyer for his campaign to be elected into Torbay Council alongside his fellow candidate Mike Morey. Once again the election was fierce with 19 candidates and only 3 seats on the council. However (not to our surprise) both Ellery and Morey shone through to be the highest voted candidates for the Brixham Ward.

Once again congratulations to you both on your win.

Throughout May and June we could be spotted in the local press sporting the World Beach Rugby t-shirts we designed for Lovell Rugby (the UK's No1 online rugby specialist). The Press Release outlined the challenge we undertook creating six t-shirt designs with a beach/rugby theme, named after famous beaches we have travelled too.

The brochure and advert we designed to accompany the campaign must be doing their job as the t-shirts have been flying off the shelves with more being ordered to keep up
with demand!

We have just finished designing the Autumn / Winter 07 range, which is a much wider collection including women's wear and accessories. They will all be available to purchase from October 07!

Election fever

We were recently asked by Vic Ellery of Brixham to design an election flyer to aid his campaign for the newly formed Brixham Council. The competition was fierce with only a few seats available. However Ellery managed to beat off all the competition, and not only was Vic voted to be on the board, but he was elected Chairman of Brixham Council!

We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Vic, that certainly is an excellent win!

Launching WBR World Beach Rugby

Beach Rugby is the normal game of rugby, taken to a new playing field - the beach. It's a relatively new concept that is being embraced by the rugby community, with a tour which travels the UK playing on the countries most beautiful beaches. Lovell Rugby, the UK's No1 online rugby specialist approached us to help them launch a new range of clothing under the name 'World Beach Rugby'. Eightyone Design created the range of t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts with a surfy/beach/rugby theme for the Summer 2007 Collection. The launch of the World Beach Rugby clothing range takes place in May and to accompany this we have designed a website, brochure and full page advert which will soon appear in Rugby World, all of which can be viewed in the 'our work' section.

Celebration cakes

We have just completed a project for the Bay's favourite bakers – St Mary's Bakery. We have designed a six minute video graphic animation showcasing the wide range of beautiful celebration cakes the bakery produces. The animation is on a loop and is displayed in the window of the three bakeries catching the eye of passers by. It has now been in the windows for four weeks and sales of their stunning cakes have increased quite considerably. The Director of St Mary's Bakery, Stuart Beatty comments 'We have had a noticeable increase in the interest and sales of our celebration cakes, especially our Wedding Cakes. Customers have even been asking us to pause the DVD so they can get a better look at a specific design!'

The video graphics are run from a master DVD which contains several seasonal versions of the animations. The St Marys Bakery staff can choose from the DVD menus which version of the video graphics they would like to use depending on the time of year. For example, an Easter version highlighting hot cross buns and Easter cakes. The DVD also has the ability to show branch specific offers and information again accessed from the DVD menus.
