GROWING ORCHIDS HAPPILY EVER AFTER

It's been two years and a half since I moved to Miami. Back then my Hobby for growing orchids started; I've had orchids in the past but since here we have a wide variety of specimens, plenty of nurseries;to find almost any kind of orchids you can imagine. The first orchid that I bought was a dark purple phaleanopsis; which I lost because I did not know how to take care.

Newbies like me to the orchids hobby ask themselves on how to grow orchids successfully? They must know that light it is very important , temperature and humidity too. And also the growing medium, but personally I think the most important thing to know is knowledge about the orchid background. So you can have a successful growth and enjoyment of your beloved plant flowers.

Out there on the web we have different resources from which you can have a lot of information on how to take care of your plants just write on your search engine: how to take care of orchids .

A specimen like the "Encyclia parviflora" bring out joy with it's Fragrant flowers. I love when mine blooms it's like having open bottle of perfume, I bring it inside my apartment to have a fresh scent around my living space.

I'm in love with my dwarf orchids Oncidium Golden S unset and also with my Howeara Lava Burst 'Puanani' AM/AOS It is time to buy some new "mini" specimens now that spring it's here they will make my porch a happier place.

If you don't like to grow your own plants; You enjoy only watch them contact your local orchid society to go to their shows, an maybe there you will become a fan and buy your very own first orchid.

Daily Bread

Since the earliest times breads of different grains have been feeding people for centuries, there are variety of theories on how the history of bread started, and from the Egyptians to our present times people had been getting a great source of energy from this food.

Ask yourself, who doesn't love to eat some fresh bread?

It is extra special when it's home made, imagine the smell when it comes out of the oven, try to taste it with a spreaded teaspoon of real butter MMMMM, delicious!

Since I bought my kitchen aid stand mixer my bread making it's been easier and faster and now my family enjoys fresh bread every week here is a simple recipe of my daily bread .

For now i bake my daily bread in my kitchen oven; In a not so distant future when I have my new home I will like to have a stone oven in the patio to bake pizza and bread like in ancient times.

For this recipe you will need:

(makes 3 to 4 loaves)

3 teaspoonfuls of active dry yeast
3 teaspoonfuls of sugar
3 Cups of water heated to 115 degrees

1 teaspoonful sea salt diluted into 2 teaspoonfuls of water

6 to 8 cups of bread flour or all-purpose flour

The water temperature should be 115 degrees to dissolve the yeast.
Add the yeast to the water, stir it to dissolve it and let it stand for 20 minutes covered till a foamy solution forms.

Check on it or it will spill out of your pot.

Pour the yeasted water into the mixer with the

diluted salt and start adding the flour slowly.

The mixer should be onto speed #2

Keep adding the flour slowly until won't stick to the bowl .

If made by hand: into a bowl and mix it with your hands until it won't stick to the bowl then knead it by hand on a floured surface approximately 8 to 10 min (that's why I bought my machine)

Divide the dough into portions

Place it into a greased mold for sandwish ; on a baking sheet for loave bread or form balls for dinner rolls and let it rise in a warm place for an hour covered or in the oven.

When it has risen place a shallow baking pan full of boiling water into the oven and wait 10 minutes.

Turn the oven to 400 bake for 25 top 35 minutes depending on the power of your oven.

Check on it to prevent burning

When done should have a golden crust. Let it cool completely to store it or enjoy intastly!

Coconut and Oatmeal cookies

I love being an artist .I love working on my master pieces and sell them on my

web site ; but I have another passion for baking and just this past weekend I bought my kitchen aid stand mixer; A thing that I was wanting for the past two years, because I love baking breads for my husband, cakes for my daughter and cookies for me mmmMMM!

I baked this weekend breads and Cookies .

Vicious and delicious!

For this recipe you will need:

13.5 oz fl

3 cups

To prepare your dough Mix oatmeal sugar and flour

then add the rest of the ingredients ( dough should look and feel sticky and taste delicious mmm!)

scoop it the dough out of the mixing bowl with a small ice cream scooper

press the dough with your fingers till you fill your baking sheet

set your oven temperature to

place cookie sheets on the oven with a small pan filled with water to keep the top of the cookies moist and the bottom crunchy

bake them for about 15 minutes depending on your oven.

Pull them out and enjoy with your family.

Great for snacks or for breakfast.

Summer Ideas

Summer is here; everything change in this season.

Once again come the season for fun; The day last longer, why not have a gathering with your friends. Invite them over for a BBQ to hit the outdoors; decorate your table with some flowers or a colorful table cloth and don't forget the citronella candle. The menu is simple and refreshing a salad with croutons to accompany your meats and a martini drink to chill out. Have truffles for dessert with Ice cream and enjoy your afternoon.

Wearing comfortable clothing its a priority because the temperature is rising; your look could be a cotton dress with sandals or shorts and a tunic with flip flops; refreshing and simple and you don't want to forget the newest trends on jewelry accessories shells and coral to complete your outfit.

Origins of handbags :from pouches to handbags

Women would likely be surprised to know that they were first utilized by a group of men some 2000 years ago.The earliest handbag that have been verified historically were small sacks carried by gentlemen containing pomanders (scented spices and oranges), flint and money.The very first mention in written literature comes from the 14th century, even though Egyptian hieroglyphs show pouches carried around the waist. Bags were attached to what were called "girdles" which were fastened to the waist. Embroidery and jewels adorned these articles and were used to show status - the richer the person, the more elaborate the bag.In the 16th century, handbags took on more of an air of practicality with the use of everyday materials such as leather with a drawstring fastener on top. During this period, cloth bags were used that were made larger and used by travelers and carried diagonally across the body. The 17th century saw more variety and both fashionable men and women carried small purses with more complex shapes. Young girls were taught embroidery as a very necessary skill to make them marriagable and we see the rise of beautiful and unique stitched artwork in handbags.Neo-classical clothing became popular in the 18th century with a reduction in the amount of underclothing worn by women. Wearing a purse would ruin the look of this clothing so fasionable ladies started carrying their handbags which were called reticules.From those times handbags became completely indispensable to women, to carry all kinds of things, from lipstick to first aid kits. Handbags, purses, or any other kinds of totes will forever be a part of women's wardrobes. Although some men continue to don handbags occasionally, women have dominated the scene in the handbag industry. No outfit can stand alone without a matching handbag.Nowadays, thousands of handbags of all imaginable styles and designs are on the market. Each kind has found its use in the wardrobe of every woman. Hand Painted Glassware

I am always working on a new projects, this time I'm painting on glassware, it's a really refreshing experience for me; since it's been more than three years that haven't painted a single canvas, although that I draw every day to keep my skill.
This new canvas that I've found is truly functional and that's the reason for my art: functionality!

This design is inspired

in my husband's favorite colors

and on his passionate personality.

I also find inspiration in nature;

simple but extremely powerful...

...In the reason to drink Martini: party & celebration!!!

My favorite color is green and my favorite metal is silver. I used them in this design; they blend beautifully to make masterpiece.

Christmas Ornaments

Each year we go out to the stores looking for Christmas ornament, they come in red, white, blue, gold, every palette you can imagine. I have seen from snow mans, surfer Santa Claus, pigs, faeries, fish, cows, starfish, elfs, crystal balls, photo frames, wine bottles, skeletons heads, cats, dogs, hula girls, star fish to anything that comes to your mind. They come for every style of home decor; Victorian, frostbite, traditional, Nordic, folk, golden luxe to moderns.
There's that something that you always will like to have to make your tree special and you can not findat stores. So that means that it's time to look up for your craft supplies and take your creativity to the next level, transform anything into an ornament for your tree.

Here I have a few examples that I made this year for my tree: from simple to elborated.
Recycled Glitter Teddy

I took an old teddy bear from my daughter kids meal and poured over some glitter glue to cover the stitches and then made a hole in the head for the hook. this ornament was quick , very cheap and I'm also recycling.
Glass Bead Ornament
Buy some glass beads at the crafts store which ever is your taste or maybe reuse some of an old necklace; I used glass beads because it make sparkles when the tree lights are on. You will only need a small piece of ribbon(enough for the measure of your beads) to use it as the base for your bead ornament, bend the ribbon in half and and feed the beads into the ribbon, make it secure at the bottom and the top, and you re done . With more knowledge on beading crafts you can make more elaborated ornaments.

Polymer Clay Ornament
Polymer clay is great craft medium with unlimited decorative uses. The clay is made of plastics so it is flexible and durable. It is cured (hardened) by baking in your home oven. The clay comes in a multitude of colors. There are also special effect clays such as metallic and glow in the dark colors.
If you have your design on mind, start by warming the clay(do not place it on the microwave or the regular oven)hold it in your hand or place it outside in the sun, that way it be easy to knead.
Create tour design and bake in the conventional oven. Follow the baking directions on your package of clay. Generally you will bake at around 375 degrees F for 30 minutes for every 1/4 inch thickness of clay. Let the it cool completely before removing from the oven. You can paint or decorate it with glitter and its ready to hang.

Let your kids have some fun decorating the tree too.
My daughter had some ideas of her own she made an ornament out of a

and also contributed with her beaded candy cane.

Vegan Burger Recipe

In 1992 I made a decision that will entirely change my eating habits;
became a vegetarian, since then I'm really passionate about eating healthy.

About two years ago I discovered that I was moderately allergic to soy and again I had to adapt the way to eat, aware of my allergy I started to do several experiments in the kitchen; some turned to be good and others really Delicious.

If you like to try different things to eat or you are adjusting to a healthy eating plan.

Here is a delicious & full nutrients vegan recipe; this recipe is a flexible one, make it for appetizer or in a burger.

This is one of my husband favorites, he goes to work with a full belly and provide him with high energy.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup bulgur wheat

1/2 cup adzuki beans

1/2 cup black beans dry

1/2 cup red beans dry

1/2 cup green lentils dry

1/4 cup whole oats

1/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 green or red bell pepper, cut into 2 inch pieces (red peppers gives more taste)
1/4 onion, cut into wedges
1-1/2 teaspoons garlic (powder or fresh)
1/2 cup carrots
1/2 cup canned or fresh mushrooms

1/2 cup canned asparagus spears
1-1/2 teaspoons basil or parsley (personal choice)
1-1/2 teaspoons cumin

salt to taste

In a large bowl mix all the dry grains

together ad water and let stand for 24 hours.

Once the grains had absorbed the water,

put them in a deep pan

and bring them to boil, then lower your heat and cook them on low heat for about an our until tender.

Mash the beans with a fork until thick and pasty.
Chop bell pepper, onion, carrots, mushrooms and garlic

Then stir the asparagus into the mashed beans.Add cumin and herbs and the rest of the ingredients.

Mix in the oats and wheat flour until the mixture is sticky and holds together.

Divide mixture into a dozen patties and Voilà!! Listo!! Ready!!!

If grilling, place patties on foil, and grill about 8 minute on each side. OR if baking, place patties on baking sheet, and bake about 10 minutes on each side

In a nonstick pan until golden brown on each side.

Serve with lettuce, tomato and alfalfa sprouts, cheddar cheese or cheese subtitute in a bagel bread or as a dish with steamed veggies with onion dresssing.

Corn Sticks

This recipe is a common appetizer in the island of Puerto Rico, Fried or baked corn sticks are very simple recipe although is time consuming, it is well worth the effort. Eat them immediately or freeze them in portions to eat later, separating them in layers with wax paper. they are deliciously mixed with a special sauce.

Original recipe yield 50 sticks

INGREDIENTS
2 cups water
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal
5 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste (optional)
2 cups oil for deep frying
1 cup ketchup
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup mustard
3 tablespoon garlic

Combine the water, sugar and salt in a saucepan, and bring to a boil.

Stir in the cornmeal; in medium heat, cook stirring constantly

until the mixture pulls away from the sides of the pot.

soften the dough by adding water to your hands, this will prevent the dough from sticking to your hands
Roll tablespoonfuls of the cornmeal mixture into balls.
roll the balls into small fat sticks about 3 inches long.
roll them on cornmeal for crunchiness
In a medium bowl, mix together ketchup, garlic,mustard and mayonnaise to make the dipping sauce.
Set aside.
Heat oil in a large heavy skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Carefully place some of the corn sticks into the oil so they are not crowded. Fry until golden brown, 3 to 4 minutes.
Remove from hot oil, and drain on paper towels. Serve with the sauce.

The 17th century saw more variety of small purses with more complex shapes and embroidery.

The term handbag was implemented in the early 1900's referring to hand-held luggage bags usually carried by men. They then inspired women, who began carrying bags with complicated fasteners, internal compartments, and locks.

From that time handbags became completely indispensable to women, to carry all kinds of things, from lipstick to first aid kits.

Amsterdam has a museum devoted to historic handbags, purses and suitcases. The Museum of Bags and Purses ( Tassen museum Hendrikje), their collection includes 3,500 items dating back to the 1500s...

With my previous training on sewing (I'm grateful to those who instructed me how to sew) I realized: why not start making my own bags! and I went to a major retail store and purchase my first pattern and I created from that pattern my own styles; with different fabrics and handles that I bought via Internet. Save the pumpkins

This year try something diferent for your halloween carved pumpkins, save them for a delicious pie and make a crafty one with newspaper, this is a cheap craft ,and also you will be recycling . this craft proyect is easy to do easy to do andthe little ones can help in the decoration .

For this proyect you will need :

old newspaper (cut them into strips)
brushes ( one 1'' and 2 regular crafts brushes for painting)
acrylic paints (orange, yellow, and green)
paper mache glue :

Put 3 cups of water into a large pot. Plache the pot on the stove and bring the water to a boil.Mix together 1 cup of flour with 2 cups of water, stir well to get out as many bumps as possible. Once the water is boiling, carefully add your flour and water mixture. Simmer this mixture for 2-3 minutes, until smooth. Add a few tablespoons of salt to help prevent mold. Allow to cool before you use it!

Start by making a ball out of a page of newspaper, then cover it with another page and go on, be shure not to leave any air bubbles, glue them toguether layer by layer , until you achieve the size of your desire for your pumpkin.

This will be the fun part, with some of the strips that you made earlier make twists and glue them to the ball, attaching them firmly with other strips to the paper ball, try to achieve the shape and form of a real pumpking on 2/4 of your ball shaped newspaper, having in mind that you have to give it a face.

Once you finished with the pumpkin shape, start working on the face, could be the traditional one with the smile or whatever your heart desire to create.

Let it dry for a day or two(depending on the temperature).

Paint it ,decorate it, enjoy it

For a variation leave it without the face and you can use it for thanks giving
