Activity 2 – Individual Blog Activity (Reflection on Wiki Experience)

It's fun learning in a group as we are able to work together and discuss the questions together . It's more effective and efficient in some projects that we have to handle, whereas for certain project I felt it's best to do as an individual:) the experience that I have gained from this current project is that I finally get to communicate with the people there as most of the work is in individual and I'm able to know each other well and we are able to do our assigned work fast. As an individual contributor, experienced gained was I'm able to put in efforts in findings as I'm able to get help from others, my groupmates.

The most challenging experience i have learnt is to decide the right answer between everyone's decision. Everyone tends to say different answer and it requires sometimes to make sure that everyone agrees with the answer:)

Advices that i would give to the next batch wiki groups when they start a similar project is that, do whatever that have to be done and show interest on it to be excel in this subject:) EFFORRTTTTTTT!!!!!! It's very important!

Apparently, I would definitely use Wiki for research in my own Diplomas and the project I'm handling. Wiki allows us to share our ideas to others and in additional, I'm able to gain more knowlegde from others' ideas. So wiki is like sharing of ideas for everyone to learn:)

Life is a journey, purposes are destinations, means are routes, difficulties are obstacles, counselors are guides, achievements are landmarks, choices are crossroads

AND EIR IS A JOURNEY IN MY LIFE THAT ALLOWS ME TO LEARN A LOT OF THINGS.

EIR IS A RAINBOW, FILLED WITH DIFFERENT COLOURS .

Taking up this course, I thought it would be simple and also I'm able to learn alot of things. But I'm wrong ! It wasn't simple as it thought as it requires a lot of work to be done through research and findings. HOWEVER, It's really interesting and no doubt, I have learnt a lot of new stuff that i have never learnt before like search facilities and others. Blogging was fun as it does but this time round it's different from those normal blogging whereby people say about their emotions, daily lifes. Eir is different in the sense that it allows us to post things we have learnt in the lesson like for my topic it's " Disccussion on leisure trends on youth". This sparks a learning journey for me and I found out a lot of interesting trends that teens are currently doing. Activity 2 (Blog Reflections)

Twitter (micro-blogging) enhanced us in the sense that it helps to faciliate active learning. It helps to foster interaction about a given topic.Twitter can provide a simple way for attendees at a conference to share thoughts about particular sessions and activities with others at the event and those who are unable to attend. In this case, in eir friends are able to have a short post of what they have done in their previous or current sessions and show it to their friends that was absent the previous lesson.

However, blogging shows a bigger picture of the stuff we have done as we are able to put in pictures that enhance our thinking and interest. Thus, blogging is better than twitter as it's a website whereby people can enter and view what you have done. In additional, you don't have to follow that person in order to read their post like twitter. It's tedious.

Twitter and Blogspot can be used for research purposes:

Twitterrers with a lot of followers certainly have an edge here. It happens everywhere. If you have a group of people who are willing to hear what you have to say, or if you have friends who you can call anytime, you can just do that and ask them for opinions or anything.This leads us to the first way to perform research with Twitter, which is to ask!:) We can ask people questions. Not only does that encourage participation from his followers, but he also gets the information he needs to write the next blog post, or just as an insight to understand his audience better. For instance, if I search for tweets from Darren and his followers, I’d be able to find out answers from his questions and use those for writing ideas or for other things.

In additional, Blog allows us to disscuss questions, using comments and chatbox. Thus, we can use questions and contribute for research purpose.

Basically, today we are starting up on our Portfolio part2 and I started doing the website resources and there's a lot more to be done. From the website evaluation, I have learnt different types of criteria to evaluate the website and gain a lot of knowledge. This time is not really easy as it requires a lot of work to be done:) However, hard work do pay off:)

The second of the activities is to get into Second Life and get into our dream destinations:)

Awwwwww!!!~ I want to get into Paris!!!I want to see the Eiffel tower in real life:) The Eiffel Tower is an 1889 iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris that has become both a global icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The tallest building in Paris it is the most-visited paid monument in the world; millions of people ascend it every year. Named for its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, the tower was built as the entrance arch to the 1889 World's Fair.

I use the purpose criteria to evaluate the multimedia websites for my dream holiday. This is because I think that CURRENCY of the website is very important and as it shows whether the information up-to-date? Is it well-maintained? This is important for people who are travelling there.

Hi all, HAPPY 2011:)This is the reflections for today's practical 7:) I'll start with the citizen Journalism. Apparently, this citizen Journalism means like an article or journal written by the citizen or people in the own country .They shares stories, dealing with their areas of study, posted on a Web site along with photos and video of the event that happened. Basically, it is like a report writing to me that an occurrence of a situation. Citizen Journalists have the power to find, tell, and share stories that otherwise fall through the cracks, or are not reported as fully or thoroughly by mainstream media.

The criterias I use to evaluate Stomp.com are purpose, coverage, authority, accuracy, currency, accessibility, presentation and arrangement, usability and overall quality. Reasons I chose these criterias are because these are those significant criteria to evaluate the stomp.com .For example, for purpose it is to share stories or information that happens in Singapore like fights,teenage pregnancy and negative aspects of Singapore. It is also an entertainment to Singapore.

Boy injured in lift: CCTV shows he was the culprit who caused ceiling board to fall

Basically, from these activity I have learnt more about stomp.com and most importantly, i have learnt how to explain and apply relevant evaluation criteria on different types of internet resources .

If I were to create my own version of "stomp" in relation to my research topic: How teenage spend their leisure time. I would apply Citizen Journalism in the sense that it will be categorize based on the topic related and the presentation side will be well organized. It won't be like the current stomp.com all the things are cluttered and some are irrelevant.

Some services I will include to ensure that my " stomp" will effectively address the implications for teaching and learning will be by hiring some professional people to add comments and remarks to any given post by others so to follow up everything.

Reflections on lesson 6:)

Hey there:) It's coming to an end of this term and this is our last tutorial lesson for this year:) After this few lessons of EIR, i did learnt a lot of useful things that I have never seen through and this definitely gain my knowledge and I explore a lot from here. Apparently, for this lesson I will be reflecting on the effectiveness on invisible web vs others like search engines and meta search:).In my own opinion,I think that Invisible web is quite effective compared to search engines and meta search as it shows data-bases that are relevant to our topic and text pages, files or other high-quality World Wide Web that general-purpose search engines cannot (due to technical limitations), or will not (due to deliberate choice) add to their indices of Web pages .However, I'll still use search engines and ,meta search as each search facilities gave us different answers and topics. For example, when i'm searching for familiar topic ,I still use search engines like GOOGLE, this is always the first priority as we don't have to log in to any account ad just search for the results we want. As for unfamiliar topic, use a subject directory as it allows you to browse through relevant links and lastly, for specialized information, use invisible web (databases like EbscoHost) or intelligent agents.Therefore, different search facilities serves different purposes.

I will use the invisible web (databases) for research in my own respective Diplomas as it helps me to search results when I couldn’t find it in search engines or meta search.

From this wiki experience, I have learnt from other people's ideas and viewpoint towards the various topic which I have not thought of before and from there I realised different kind of stories and gains more information from there and this wiki experience is useful to us as we are able to share with everyone and therefore people will know what's new that they don't know too. :)

Reflections on lesson 4

Hi people, for today I have learnt two types of search facilities and they are

Meta Search Engine and Subject Directory. For meta search engine I have chosen from the lecture notes : http://www.ixquick.com and as for Subject Directory, I have chosen http://go.com/. With these two kinds of facilities,I have tried to use it and search for resources that are related to my topic and from there I have found new stuff that not google and yahoo could found . In comparison, I think that Meta search is more effective than subject directory as Meta-search engines use software to find the best Web sites to match your search terms and in research wise, it serves a better purpose than using subject directory. They are similar as they are able to allow us to choose category like pictures,web and etc and the difference is the findings that we have found.It is more relevant.

For the site feeding part, i think it's helpful as I can just give a click and I can enter to my friend's blog to see their recent updates and post which is efficient for me :)

The best part about collaborating on Wiki with other students who share similar research topic as me is that I'm able to exchange references with them as not all people with same topic gets the same resources and it's relatively new and interesting for me that I'm able to learn new knowlegde from there too and everyone gets to share the resources that they have found.

Reflection on Virtual Shopping Spree on Second Life (E-learning Activity)

Before I start, I want to let everyone know thatTemasek Polytechnic is in second life too OMG! A user there that I know teleport me there:) How cool is it:)

Hi hi people, I have learnt a lot of things from second life and it is relatively interesting compared to normal online shopping as there are people or the owner there who can guide me along to buy things and give me recommendations:) How great it is right ! Here i go

The virtual shopping sites/island on Second Life i habe teleported to is Port Seraphine:)
Over there, it provides female top designer clothes and lingerine and to me the shopping environment looks so grand and unique and I felt so happy while shopping there as there are a lot of varieties and it's so awesome compared to real life shopping in online.The service there are wondeerful as the people/saler is so friendly and she gave me free tag in the clothes and one of it I got is the elegant dress.there are freebies too which I don't even have to spend any amount and get what I want:) The accessibility to the products and services offered is efficient and effective .However in the start I have hard time moving front and back and the place I want to go but with the help system there,I'm able to learn and move it effectively though I'm still not as good as the people there but at least I'm able to control quite well. I met some friends there and make friends too including the graphic designer named Designer Enchanted. She is super friendly and ask me what would I get as there is a translator. I make friends like Marie Opaline, Roxanne Falmer and DjMonika Lowey:)Dennis Scorpio have been my great friend there and I asked alot of questions form him hahahah! They are friendly and sociable!!!And lastly,Charles Congrejo and he even help me to teleport when I dont know how and we even make friends in facebook:)

In secondlife,I'm able to get what I want and personalize my own house and clothes that all these I can't get in real life and it's like a dreamland to me :) I really enjoy myself there as I can use the motions like fly, walk and run and it's so cool as I'm able to chat with anyone over there and do what I want like I'm able to go anywhere and explore around!:) How great it is right and most importantly, the user there are friendly and sociable :) It's so colourful and it did beautify up my life :) Lastly the most awesome part is that I can teleport to any place I want :)

For example, at the start I'm quite lost and don't know where am I and how to I go to the shops in the Second life and very blur but however, after like half an hour I learn how to go to other places like teleporting and from the aid of the help from the people there. Reflections for lesson 3

Hey people, today's lesson was comparing between (http://scholar.google.com) and (www.google.com) . Apparently,I feel that by using (www.google.com) works better for me and more useful. More resources are found and it's mostly related in additonal I'm able to search

results by the country, location and change it and able to get research from the pages from singapore with just a click

compared to (http://scholar.google.com) it's from the whole country and not relevant to the question that I typed.Therefore, in comparison I'm impressed by google functions as it's really helpful to us when we are searching for results.

Participation in discussion forum

Reasons we do citation and bibliography

Basically, we do citation because we want to acknowledge the source of the information by the real author and by this is like preventing people from copying and plagiarism. We must be conscious about our work and the people did this from their own opinon and hard work so I think it's important to respect them and their work so I strongly agree that citation is very important and useful.

Bibliography represents the research we have done in preparation for writing, and it offers our audience suggestions for further reading on our topic and bibliography is important as we can search and back track the things that we want in the future for easier references for efficiency and effectiveness.

Facebook Group Discussion ForumFor the facebook discussion forum that we have just done I think it's quite useful as we are actually chatting with our own classmates and from there we can hear from different kinds of viewpoints from different people though. Expressing myself behind the computer isn't a worry to me as I love to do so and I'm able to express myself freely.
This online discussion experience has it's pros and cons, compared with traditional face-to-face in-class discussions . For the pros, we can expressed ourselves freely and not get frightened or stumbled when we say something rather than with traditional face-to-face in-class discussions. However, we won't know what are the feelings inthe text that are typed as the reader can't possibly read our mind on how are we feeling by reading and always this kind of discussion between the computer may sometimes creates fights and unhappiness because maybe the person is saying in a normal way but the reader may mistaken it and creates tension.
In conclusion,I find that this online forum is relatively useful compared to face to face as most importantly, we are able to type what we feels.

With these lesson three, I find myself becoming more interactive in using internet and socialize with people and also there's a lot of different functions and features to be learnt in google and I looked forward to the next lesson:)

Hi there, for second lesson I have learnt to choose my topic and my topic is "Discussion on the leisure trends among youths in Singapore" . I choose this topic as it's related to me, as a teenager too and it's much more interesting for me to do this. It's great that I have found a lot of different websites of different idea like blogs,forum and different websites. Blog are better than forum as people will write in full details with pictures to show rather than forum those are their own opinions. We can also comment in the blog too under their last post. This will be interesting too.

Next ,we have learnt to go online shopping in various websites and I really enjoyed it while shopping as I just need to sit down and choose what I want .

Overall,I enjoy my time spending in effective research class:)

Basically,I have chose discussion on the leisure trends among youths in Singapore. Apparently, teenagers will either watch movie, clubbing or shopping during their leisure time. The purpose of me choosing this topic is because I'm a teenager and I will know more about what currently youths are addicted to and at the same time ,I may able to learn more new activities that other teenagers that have done so in additional I get to learn about it since Sinagpore aren't big and we are actually going to the same place .

Hi people,I'm Teo Li Rong from Business Process and System Enginnering and I'm currently studying in Year 2.2 and enjoying my wonderful teenage life with awesome friends and families I have.

Firstly, let me share with you about myself. Apparently, I'm taking a part-time job in East Coast Park McCafe and I totally love my job as I get to interact with my customers, socialize and hanging out with my colleagues and we even share almost everything in our life. I enjoyed my work because I love to make coffees and it aren't easy as you think because it requires skills and experience to brew out a good coffee and it's actually fun because after you have mastered the basic way of brewing a quality coffee you can actually learn how to make latte art, it takes up a lot of time and patience and I do want to share with you guys pictures of latte art I have done:)

As a teenager, I do spend a lot of time hanging out,singing and shopping and no doubt, I love to take pictures with my friends because it do held memories, sweet memories. I will always scheduled myself well like studying ,workingand shopping. So currently during school hours,I'll only work on weekends morning shift and afterwhich,SHOPPING!!! Well, during weekdays I always spend my time finsihing my projects and homework as I'm always classified by my fellow classmates " gan giong girl" . Her songs really filled my mind and heart up whenever I'm alone in bus or something and the songs she sang means alot of things and it's true. My favourite tv drama is Vampire diaries, oh well for me I do love those romantic and scary kind and this movie really caught me spending my time watching whenever I'm free and not all love to watch romantic kind but you see, everyone has their own interest.Earlier on I have mention that I do love to sing , yes and that's my hobby too. Singer do spells our feeling out and it's pretty enjoyable if we sing with our friends and that really makes my day well.
