The Tango electric car isn't one that garners much attention. Most are familiar with Tesla, Chevy Volt, Zap and maybe even Fisker, but the Tango electric car which is built by Commuter Cars Corp of Spokane, WA offers something a bit different by offering the speed and agility of a motorcycle while offering the safety and performance of a car. In fact, the car is narrower than some motorcycles, so lane splitting where permitted is legal! In terms of performance, the company claims it can achieve 0 – 60mph in 4 seconds and get up to a top speed of 130mph. In terms of safety, the electric car offers a roll cage certified for race cars traveling 200mph, but that's not going to help much if you're rear ended by a Hummer!
Ever thought about building your own electric powered car that runs entirely on the power of the sun? It's the ultimate clean transportation solution and I've been curious about it myself so did a bit of digging around.

One company I found called SUNN EV offers a do it yourself kit with the total cost of components costing around $5K and has around a 30 mile range. Of course, it's no speed demon topping out at around 25mph. The car was designed by Art Haines with the help of high school students in Maine. Very cool!
After several years of big is better with trucks seemingly getting so large as to nearly take up two lanes, the trend may be shifting with a new found focus on environmentall friendly options. The buzz is building about electric and hybrid cars, most of which would be crushed in an accident. Enough to make any potential buyer hesitant. However, an interesting press release was posted yesterday from a company called XP Vehicles based out of the Bay Area that will begin selling a sub $5000 inflatable, electric car! Yep, that's right inflatable. The company claims that the car implements NASA technology and is completely safe. I think I'll let others do the "beta" testing for this one. Apparently the electric car ships in two boxes and takes two people about two hours to assemble and will be available in late 2008. From the website: (what was that about driving off a cliff?
Electric cars have garnered much of the attention of late, but Brammo Motorsports out of Ashland, Oregon has produced an electric motorcycle that charges in any 110 volt electrical outlet in 3 hours giving you 50 miles of run time. The bike is just 275 pounds and can accelerate from 0 – 30 in 3.8 seconds with no maintenance, no gears and a noisless ride. The company has just begun taking orders for a limited edition for $14,995 set for delivery in the first quarter of '08. The standard edition will begin shipping in the 3rd quarter of next year and sell for 11,995. MSN did a fairly extensive review of the bike and the company has released a video.
