Most of these deaths are in homes without a smoke alarm or without a working smoke detector. These reports clearly points out the importance of having a working smoke detector install in your home. With the help of a smoke alarm, you will be able to avoid a number of problems that can happen due to fire.
Importance of installing smoke detectors in your Atlanta home
A smoke detector install can help in preventing fire-damage to a great extent. Getting it installed in your North Atlanta home or any where is your best bet at ensuring fire-safety for the entire family. Here are a few of the reason why smoke detectors are so important:

Their first purpose is to warn you in case of any suspicious smoke inside the house. Improperly extinguished or unattended cigarettes and cigars are among the most common cause of fire. These cigarettes or cigars will first smolder the material on which they are kept, acting as a major flame accelerant. A smoke detector will detect a possible fire within the house and immediately give a warning before the flames spread to other parts of the house. In case of electrical fires, the problem might first appear in the form of smoldering electrical wires. As the smoke grows thicker, the smoke alarm will be able to give you some warning before the fire becomes uncontrollable.

In case a fire occurs despite your best efforts to prevent it or while you are not at home, smoke detectors can alert the right people about the situation. This means that you will get a quick solution even if a fire does breaks out in your home.

Not only do they aid in making your home feel more comfortable in the summer, they also aid in circulating the air in the winter months as well. Ceiling fans can be suspended from the ceiling closely in the form of a hugger fan installation where they are installed very closely to the ceiling. With the addition of extension poles (threaded conduit) they can be lowered from the ceiling for installation on tall and sloped ceilings. Most ceiling fans come with a short extension pole that allows the fan to hang down several inches from the ceiling.
Installing a ceiling fan is easy enough to do if you can follow a few instuctions. You'll need a Phillips screwdriver, straight screwdriver and wire strippers. When replacing a light fixture with a ceiling fan, it is likely that you'll need to change the ceilng box to a fan support bracket and box to accomodate the added weight of the ceiling fan. Don't forget to add a ceiling fan light kit when installing a fan.

Knocking out walls? Why does a Electrician need to be involved?

After much discussion on how to achieve a more open feel to your main living area, you and your better half decide that the easiest way to accomplish this would be to create a large opening in the wall between the kitchen and your formal dining room. Just think how much of a difference that will make, and really, how hard can that be? You consult your neighbour, the journeyman carpenter, and determine that the wall is not a load bearing wall. You obtain the correct permits from the local building authority, and you’re ready to start first thing Saturday morning. Up bright and early, you’re ready to start. You mark out the proposed rough opening and start removing wall board beginning at the top. Using a plethora of tools, from a utility knife to a reciprocating saw, the renovation begins! Off comes the drywall in a messy, dusty heap on the floor. Things couldn’t be working out better! Your 60” wide passageway is taking shape right before your eyes, and then, you spot your problem. About 36” off the floor you see a cable running through the studs right across your opening. Upon further inspection you discover an electrical outlet on either side of your opening on the other side of the wall. Now what! What are the options?
After a few calls to several local electrical contractors, and leaving messages for them to call you back, it’s off to the computer room to check online for some answers. You find a great website for electrical help, and learn that as long as you have a reasonable skill level, a healthy respect for electricity, and that your local building authority will issue a Homeowners’ Electrical Permit, there’s no reason that you can’t tackle this project yourself. Monday morning you get the appropriate permit in place, and on the advice you received online, you first ensure that the power to this particular circuit is switched off at the service entrance panel by turning off the correct breaker, you have checked the outlets on either side of the opening and they are indeed dead. You remove the faceplates and the device screws on each of the receptacles and discover that each receptacle has two 2-wire cables entering each box, and both receptacles have five wires attached to them: two black wires; two white wires; and a bare ground. The cable in the wall opening is running between the two receptacles. Removing the cable will break the circuit so it needs to remain in the equation. The cable has to be disconnected and removed from each of the device boxes. Fortunately the receptacles are only one stud space over from your new opening on either side, so fishing in a new, longer piece of wire between them is not that difficult. Sizing up the situation, you determine that you can run a new, longer cable up and over your new opening with a few simple modifications to the original plan. You reinstall the new cable into both boxes and reconnect all the wires properly, and now the project can move forward as planned!
You’ve learned a valuable lesson. Check for all potential problems that could be encountered, even in the most simple of projects. Look for any clues, such as electrical outlets, or plumbing fixtures beside, above or below the proposed renovation area. This would have allowed you to prepare in advance, and may have affected the entire renovation plan had the issue been a more difficult one to resolve.

Here to Help

The people at Electrician Atlanta services are anxious to produce unbeatable electric services covering all of the Atlanta area. No, it's not like a woman, but they all have one thing in common, a need for a specific amount of power to operate them. Each appliance draws a certain amount of current and they are not ones to share! In fact, having more than one appliance on a circuit can lead to a power failure, well by way of a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse.
But no fear, there is a way to ensure that all of your appliances are running perfectly and without interruption. It's simple, just give each appliance its own dedicated circuit. That way, you never have to worry about one drawing too much power and the second starting up and overloading the circuit. With a few basic tips, you'll know the secrets about kitchen appliance connection requirements.

Choosing the best Electrician Atlanta!

When it comes to electrical projects, it is important to hire a professional electrician atlanta. Electricity is not only dangerous to work with it can also pose serious safety hazards if a job is not performed correctly. At first, it may seem as if your do it yourself project was completed correctly, only to find several months or weeks later, that you have serious complications. Overloaded circuits can cause problems and faulty wiring is a fire hazard. Therefore, you should always contract the services of a licensed, qualified professional electric contractor to handle all of your electrical projects.Money shouldn’t be the primary factor in hiring an electrician. Making sure that your electrician is properly qualified is more important than cost. If you want your project to be performed correctly and to code, then you should be prepared to pay for quality services.Choosing an electrician that has references and can verify their experience is crucial. Additionally, you can make sure that the electrician is a member of trade associations such as the National Electrical Contractors Association, as well. Another factor to consider when you choosing a professional electrician is to make sure that they offer a warranty on their services. It may be beneficial to ask the electrician to provide you with references, specifically of customers who’ve had previous problems. This way, you can find out first hand how the electrician repaired or fixed the problem to the customer’s satisfaction.Always call several electricians and get a number of different bids or estimates before choosing the Atlanta electric contractor that you feel is best for the job. You should consider the estimates as a time to interview the electricians and to make sure that they are licensed, bonded, and carry the insurance needed to complete the job safely.

Certified Electrician in Atlanta - Do I need One Now?

The time to call an electrician Atlanta is when you need any electrical work done. They are insured, licensed and in some cases, bonded. Electrician Atlanta and Electrical contractors have years of experience and have done this type of work repeatedly. If you need to upgrade your service or add some additional outlets, now is the time to call an electrician. When you need to troubleshoot your home to find out why the lights are flickering, it is time to call a professional electrician or electrical contractor. Any outdoor electrical work requires a professional electrician. If you are wondering why something unusual is happening with the electricity or wiring in your home, it is time to call an electrician.

If you seem to be running out of outlets in your home, you can call an electrical contractor to come in and give you an estimate for additional outlets. If you have old wiring in your home, it is time to upgrade and meet the housing code requirements. If you have power surges when the refrigerator kicks in, you need to find out why and call an electrician. A professional electrician can help you with these needs. If you keep tripping a circuit breaker or blowing a fuse, you need to find out why right away. A potential danger might be avoided if you get the problem checked and fixed by a licensed and insured electrical contractor.

Most electrical fires start because the homeowner does not think the problem is serious. If they would have had it checked by a professional electrical contractor, the fire may have been avoided. It does not cost anything to pick up the phone and call an electrician; it does cost more if you would have a fire or power outage. It is better to get problems resolved before it is too late. If you have dimming lights, flickering lights, arching, frayed wires, old knob and tube wiring or even upgrading plans, call an experienced and licensed electrician to see what they can do for you.

What does Electrician Atlanta do?

Atlanta Electricians bring electricity into your homes, businesses, and factories. They also install and maintain the wiring, fuses, and other components through which electricity always flows. A lot of electricians may also install and maintain electrical machines in large and small factories.

Electricians connect all types of wires to circuit breakers, transformers, outlets, or other components. They join the wires in boxes with various specially designed connectors. When installing wiring, electricians
use hand tools such as conduit benders, screwdrivers, pliers, knives, hacksaws, and wire strippers, as well as power tools such as drills and saws. Later, they use ammeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and other equipment to test connections and ensure the compatibility and safety of components.

To ensure public safety, electricians follow the National Electrical Code, and State and local building codes. They usually start their work by reading blueprints. Blueprints are technical diagrams that show the locations of circuits, outlets, load centers, panel boards, and other equipment.

Electricians generally focus on either construction or maintenance, although many do both. Electricians specializing in construction primarily install wiring systems into factories, businesses, and new homes. Electricians specializing in maintenance work fix and upgrade existing electrical systems and repair electrical equipment.

When electricians install major wiring systems for factories and commercial settings, they first place conduit (pipe or tubing) inside partitions, walls, or other concealed areas as designated by there blueprints. They then fasten small metal or plastic boxes to the walls that will house electrical switches and outlets. Electricians will tend to pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between these boxes. The diameter and number of wires installed depends on how much power will need to run through it. The greater the diameter of the wire, the more electricity it can handle. In residential construction, electricians usually install insulated wire encased in plastic, which does not need to run through conduit.

Some electricians also install low-voltage wiring systems in addition to electrical systems, although line installers and repairers specialize in this work. Low-voltage wiring accommodates voice, data, and video equipment, such as telephones, computers, intercoms, and fire alarm and security systems. Electricians also may install coaxial or fiber optic cable for telecommunications equipment and electronic controls for industrial uses.

Maintenance electricians repair or replace electric and electronic equipment when it breaks. They make needed repairs as quickly as possible in order to minimize inconvenience. They may replace items such as circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical and electronic components, or wire. Electricians also periodically inspect all equipment to ensure it is operating properly and to correct problems before breakdowns occur.

Maintenance work varies greatly, depending on where an electrician works. Electricians who focus on residential work perform a wide variety of electrical work for homeowners. They may rewire a home and replace an old fuse box with a new circuit breaker box to accommodate additional appliances, or they may install new lighting and other electric household items, such as ceiling fans. These electricians might also do some construction and installation work.

Our Work environment. Electricians work indoors and out, at construction sites, in homes, and in businesses or factories. Work may be strenuous at times and can include bending conduit, lifting heavy objects, and standing, stooping, and kneeling for long periods. Electricians always risk injury from electrical shock, falls, and cuts. They must always follow very strict safety procedures to prevent injuries. When working outdoors, they may be subject to bad weather conditions. Some electricians may have to travel long distances to jobsites.

Electricians when in large factories usually do maintenance work that is way more complex. They may fix motors, transformers, generators, and electronic controllers on machine tools and industrial robots. Electricians also advise management whether continued operation of equipment could be dangerous. When working with highly complex electronic devices, they may consult with engineers, engineering technicians, line installers and repairers, or industrial machinery mechanics and maintenance workers. (Statements on these occupations appear elsewhere in the Handbook.)

Most Atlanta electricians work a standard 40-hour week, although overtime may be required. Those who do maintenance work may work nights or weekends and be on call to go to the worksite when needed. Electricians in industrial settings may have periodic extended overtime during scheduled maintenance or retooling periods. Companies that operate 24 hours a day may employ three shifts of electricians.

Keeping your hot tub maintained in Atlanta

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 130px; height: 130px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GXAZegLNex4/S2SNq5JdHKI/AAAAAAAAAA8/T2iRfE4x324/s320/hot+tub.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5432622818550160546" />

Keep the Spa Clean

So you had Way's Electric come out and install your brand new hot tub in the Atlanta Metro area. So what you you have to do now in order to keep us from coming out again and doing some much needed maintenance on it?

Over time, spa water can get chemically saturated and become resistant to regular upkeep. Regardless of spa brand or sanitizer system being used, all hot tub water must be replaced periodically. The timing for draining and refilling the spa with fresh water can vary, depending greatly on bather load. Try to change the water as often as 60 to 90 days in order to keep the water fresh.

Spa plumbing is vulnerable to deposits of debris and organisms in the lines, especially if it has been dormant for a while. Buildup of biofilm inside spa pipes and hoses can reduce water circulation and jet action, while providing a breeding-ground for bacteria. Before draining the old spa water, add a spa plumbing system cleaner, such as Spa System Flush® to remove films and deposits without the use of harsh or toxic chemicals.

After flushing the plumbing system and draining the spa, clean the tub shell and cover with a non-foaming all-surface cleaner. Avoid using common household cleaners, which can alter the pH balance of the hot tub. Finish up by sealing the spa interior with a gel-gloss polish containing carnauba wax for a high luster and smooth surface that will help to eliminate water spotting and staining. Never use car wax on a spa shell.

Now is also the time to soak the spa’s filter(s) in a filter cleaning compound. Filter media can become clogged with lotion residues, body oils, scum and dirt, restricting water flow and causing excessive strain on pumps and motors. Rotate the current filter with a clean, dry spare, or allow the cleaned filter cartridge to dry completely before reinstalling.

Don’t forget to take an extra moment to wipe down and protect the spa cover. Keeping the vinyl clean, inside and out, and protecting it from UV damage will prolong the life of the cover. Beware of vinyl products containing damaging silicone. Besides having a reduced insulating capacity, a worn-out or heavy (waterlogged) cover can actually harbor harmful microorganisms that will contaminate the spa water. A cover in this condition should be replaced.

Balance and Treat Water

The next step is to refill the clean spa with fresh water. Maintaining a proper water

balance will feel better on the skin and also allows the sanitizer to perform. Check the water’s balance using a 3-way test strip, first noting the Total Alkalinity, and then checking the pH level. A Total Alkalinity on the high side of the range is less a problem than if too low. The same rule of thumb is true for pH. While a too-high pH is alkaline and can contribute to scale formation, very low pH is acidic and can be corrosive. Use Alkalinity Increaser for too low TA or pH Decrease for too high TA as indicated on the test strips.

Complete water balancing by adding non-chlorine shock according to label directions. The shock oxidizes contaminants on which bacteria feed, and destroying this foreign matter ensures the spa’s disinfectant system can work more effectively.

Sanitize

The third step, and an important decision for the spa owner, is to choose an EPA-registered spa purifier system that meets stringent standards for effectiveness in hot tubs. There are advantages and disadvantages to using common sanitizing systems such as bromine and mineral purifier cartridges. An alternative to these products is a unique EPA registered liquid bactericide/algaecide called Cleanwater Blue® that utilizes a proprietary copper system to kill bacteria and algae. This sanitizing system is also odorless and safe to people and pets.

A few final points to remember are to run the spa at least 3 to 6 hours daily to completely filter the water and distribute the sanitizer. Always add chemicals to the spa one at a time – NEVER mix them together first

Ceiling Fan Installation

This is a list of the typical tools needed to perform the task of installing a ceiling fan:

Tools and Materials

Ceiling fan
Mounting kit
Swag kit (if applicable)
Lock washers
Patented support unit
4" x 1 1/2" octagon electrical box
Cable
Outlet box
Switch
Box connectors
Wirenuts
Switch cover
Bonding screw
Neon test light
No. 2 Phillips screwdriver
Claw hammer
3/16" slotted screwdriver
Speed controller
Pliers
Wallboard or compass saw
Soft cloth
Stud locator
Ladder
Electrician's pliers
Wire-stripper
Cable-ripper
Surface-wiring system

As you can tell, the list of tools is extensive and not everyone has them at their exposal. IN the event that your family grows, it is likely that you will need extra rooms to compensate for new babies or inlaws so you can maintain your bar or sports room. There are general outlets and lighting needed throughout these rooms, but there are also other additions to consider. Smoke detectors, ceiling fans, bathroom vent fans, air-conditioner receptacles, electric heaters, telephone jacks, computer jacks, and television jacks are all usual additions to these types of areas.

Then there is the addition of thermostats for heating and cooling control. In some cases, you may have separate heating and cooling to an independent area of your home. There is also the possibility of baseboard heating that requires a thermostat to turn the units on and off.

Closets are another portion of the house to remember to add lighting to. Remember to consider make clearances for light fixtures in this area.

Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors will help protect you and your family. Hardwire smoke detector systems connect all of the smoke detectors together throughout the house. If one sets off an alarm, they all sound to warn you in all areas of the house so that you can get out in time. In the event that you are sleeping in an upstairs bedroom with the door closed and a fire starts, you may not hear an alarm in the basement of the house. This way, you will be warned no matter where you are.

Ceiling fans add comfort to a room, so don’t cheapen out when wiring this area of your home. I suggest pulling two switch legs to the ceiling opening, one for the light and the other for the fan. Whether you choose t add a light or a light/fan combo, you’ll always have a switch leg to accommodate your choice of ceiling fixture.

Remember, receptacles should be placed no farther than 12 feet apart. The rule of thumb is that appliances come with 6 foot cords. This means you can get from one outlet 6 feet and then plug into the next for the other 6 feet. Obviously, this is the maximum distance allowed by the code.

For more tips please visit our websites at www.electrician-atlanta.com
www.electricianloganville.com and www.electriciangrayson.com

My first ever tweet, facebook and blog...Crazy

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 208px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GXAZegLNex4/SyruotFRRBI/AAAAAAAAAAs/hb4dnWOio1k/s320/way2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416403884930319378" />
Hi.
