This 24 year-old producer from Cincinnati named James Ruehlmann is the third impressively talented producer to show up on my radar in the last week. James’ alter ego, Mutrix, is a persona of galactic proportions. Weaving together psychedelic synths in progressive orchestrations that sometimes resemble heavy metal riffs traveling through expansive atmospheres, Mutrix demonstrates that he is a force to be reckoned with. Wait…what? Yeah. I honestly was blown away when I found this guy. His songs are progressive and dymamic, pulling elements from Psy-Trance, Electro, Dubstep and even Tribal Tech-House to make quite an epic EP available for free download. Grab your copy here, and definitely keep an eye on this guy. I have a feeling he could potentially have a heavy influence on where bass music is going over the horizon.

When I read that Tommy Trash and Moguai would be collaborating, I was intruiged to say the least. They come from complete polar opposite ends of the spectrum – Moguai being soft, clean, and progressive while Tommy Trash brings us, well, the trashy, dirty, filthy electro tracks. The original mix of In N Out is easily both of their styles – clean progressive beats, lots of melody interlaced with shredding electro synthesizers.

The club mix from Tommy Trash is all Tommy I must say. The track starts off with a deep rumbling bass like a lion on the prowl in the jungle. However, at the 1:10 minute mark it switches back to some Daft Punk style synthesizers and melody – only for a quick tease though. At the 2:00 it goes full boar into electro house mode with jittering synths and lots of dirty bass.

A veteran of the Toronto nightlife scene, Dabin is a fresh name to my ears. Leaving behind his recent release, ‘Electropolitics EP’, Dabin takes a big step forward with an impressive tune prepared for the new Kannibalen Records compilation, ‘Kannibals at the Beach’. The huge deep bass swells in this track will keep your head spinning while your mind bounces around inside. Going from deep and beautiful to in-your-face and gnarly, I was truly surprised when I came across this track as it stands out way in front of the rest of the compilation. The release came out yesterday so grab your copy on beatport, and keep an eye on Dabin. I expect big things from him in the future.

The next installment in their summer release series, V.I.P. (Violently Ill Productions), ElectroJams homeboys Free n Losh have another one for you.  Cool Side of the Pillow, is a track that blends elements of nu-disco and electro house and even a dubstep-style breakdown in halftime.Although trying to classify it might do more harm than good. this track takes quite a few different directions and it all works.  

AN21 and Max Vangeli are known for their collaborations and livesets together, with their latest tune ‘H8RS’ they side up with AN21′s older brother, Steve Angello. ’H8RS’ was uncovered during one of Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 shows a few weeks back, and was released on Beatport through Angello’s own label Size Records earlier today. The single is taken from AN21′s and Vangeli’s upcoming studio album ‘People of the Night’, scheduled to release later this summer. An album packed with great collaborations such as Tiesto and surely one to mark your calendar for.

To say that Mr. LeDisko had the crowd moving is a total understatement. Although the venue was filled with casual clubbers that wouldn’t necessarily be familiar with LA RIOTS as anything special, you wouldn’t have been able to tell from a “God’s Eye” perspective. Daniel progressivley built upon each song he dropped to make for a set that seemed well put together.

Variety is the keyword that described what I experienced that night. Some memorable songs that made appearances were Hardwell’s remix of Tiesto ft BT- Love Comes Again as well as Swedish House Mafia & Laidback Luke feat. Deborah Cox Leave the World Behind. He presented a rendition of Kaskade’s Turn It Down that made the crowd go absolutely nuts. Among the many remixes played, Daniel’s rendition of Emili Sande’s Daddy was one that immediately caught my attention and immediately gave me a good impression of what was to come. Filled with top tier house tracks and well thought out remixes, the set was amazing none the less. I left thoroughly impressed with what I had just witnessed, anxiously ready for the next time I’d see LA RIOTS.

Be expecting to hear more of LA RIOTS being talked about in the near future. With sets like Saturday’s it won’t be too long before LA Riots starts to headline bigger venues and is on the tongue of EDM fans everywhere.

If you’ve been floating around the bass music scene this year, you’ve undoubtedly heard the nostalgic Jump-Up anthem that is ‘Reach’ by Tantrum Desire. Veteran innovators in the modern Drum & Bass scene, the production duo continues their legacy with another dancefloor destroyer engineered to perfection.

‘Get With It’ and the VIP remix of ‘Reach’ both take a step forward, building on the same rowdy vibes from the original. Fully saturated with juicy bass on top of enormous drum kits, both tracks deliver everything you want a huge Tech-Step banger topped with some more of that token tantrum desire Jump-Up synth. I cant get enough of it. Already getting rinsed on BBC Radio 1, expect to hear both of these tunes anywhere there is a bass-filled dancefloor now that they’re available on iTunes along with the Dubstep remix teaser.

One of the most consistently original producers on the bass music playing field, 501 is at it again. Part of the UKF ‘Never Say Die’ compilation, his new track reminds me why I get so excited every time I see a new release from this amazing producer. Starting off with some beautiful misdirection, ‘Chasing Stars’ builds through an uplifting house melody then drops into that delicious melodic filth that makes my ears so happy. This track along with the entire compilation is available now on iTunes, so go get your copy now while its still fresh.

I know that vocoders, massively overdriven filters, and modern talking patches are all the rage these days, and don’t get me wrong – I love the whole brostep craze, but there comes a point when you meet kids who think Sonny Moore is the godfather of dubstep yet they don’t even truly know who Benga or Caspa is, nor do they even know what dub is. You don’t necessarily have to enjoy them, just know who they are and appreciate them for what they’ve done. The same can be said for The Beatles – I actually don’t like their music one bit, but I at least give them the credit for modern music as we know it.

So what I’m getting at is, I get really stoked like a little kid on Christmas when I come across some dubstep that is just pure, clean bass that makes my house rumble and my face melt. No autotuned vocals or “talking” synths… Just BASS. I’m proud to say there are still labels that put out original dubstep, and one of them is Elk Beats. Tomorrow, AxH‘s Gather Souls EP will be dropping, featuring a remix from labelmate EshOne. This is an EP you will most definitely want to add to your collection.

With major support from trance heavyweights Above & Beyond, Mike Danis is starting to take the trance world by storm.  The 22-year old Hungarian producer has now been featured on Trance Around The World twice now in as many weeks, and was also supported by the legendary Paul Van Dyk.  This newest release is a double header, with Terminal and Hurricane.

Although he doesn’t list Armin as one of his influneces on his Facebook, he clearly has taken something from his book because there is something that is classically an Armada sound to Terminal.  With build after build after build, this track sets itself for epic blasts that are sure to send dancefloors into literal trances.

Hurricane is a piano-driven melodic track that evokes images of a dreamworld dance club fit for gods.  Forward moving, with a bit of a progressive feel, the track has subtle house elements and a pleasant breakdown that gives way to the melodic anticipation that comes about with the classic uplifiting trance synth-driven melody.  With that said, there is something in this track that for all it’s lushness, remains simplistically minimal.  Not designed to necessarily grab your attention, this track would still fit in within your longer sets.
