Flock is a great browser. I would even go as far as to say the best. Flock is built of of Mozilla code so it is very similar to Firefox. However Flock has something Firefox doesn't: it integrates some of the most popular sites on the web such as Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, AOL Mial, Digg, Pownce, YouTube, flickr, twitter, facebook, del.icio.us, Photobucket, Picasa, Piczo, Blogger, and others. It is an amazing piece of software and i highly recommend it.

I finally got around to signing up for Digg. There is a lot of hype about it and I have to say it is a great service. I haven't fully tapped into it's full potential yet, but I'm sure it will be as addicting as Del.icio.us. I have found Digg to be the best way to spread news yet. I Dugg a paper I wrote just last night and within about two hours there where already three other people who had dugg it! My profile is http://digg.com/users/ScabMan.

Blogger Buddy........ Not a bad concept

Windows Vista isn't really that much better than Windows XP. But it does have the sidebar. There are some pretty nifty widgets you can get for the sidebar and one of them is Blogger Buddy. It allows you to post to your blog right from Windows Sidebar. It's pretty great.

I recently stumbled upon something rather interesting. It's a web app called InstantAction. It allows you to play eight different games with rather stunning graphics, right in your browser (after installing a plug-in). My personal favorite(though I haven't played all the games yet) is Fallen Empires: Legions. The only real problem is that the games load far from instantly.

Sixteen killed in Pakistan during Taliban ambush

At least 16 soldiers and militants - possibly more - were killed in Pakistan Saturday during an ambush by the Taliban. According to the Pakistan Television Corporation, hundreds of militants stormed a convoy of Pakistani paramilitary forces. An unknown number of civilians were reported to be among the dead. This comes one day after militants took 29 security personal hostage, threatening to kill them if seven of their allies were not released from jail.
According to the chief of the Interior Ministry, Rehman Malik, the paramilitary forces had been deployed to the area in search of 19 kidnapped government officials. "I strongly condemn the killing of Frontier Constabulary personnel and salute them for their courage and valour," said Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

He had a vision that there would be a computer on every desktop and it came true. He created a company with products that are used by millions on a daily bases. Now, he's moving on to do philanthropic work. He's Bill Gates and he's the world's third richest man. He is one of my role models and he is a true visionary. He stepped down as an employee of Microsoft today. No longer will he touch others with his brilliance in the computer field but rather by focusing on some of the world's greatest problems: AIDS, malaria, and others. Good luck, Bill.

MySpace cleans up it's act

MySpace has received a redesign as well as ad themes (look at the screenshot below). I think the redesigned homepage anyhow is much cleaner and better looking than the old one. However, as appealing as the new makeover is I'm still sticking with Facebook.

Previously I had Xubuntu Linux 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon installed on my rather outdated HP Pavilion 6630 (with some extra RAM). Then I decided to try to convert it into a server by installing Ubuntu Server and solving the problem that I had no internet access later. Anywho, I discovered that Ubuntu Server is a command-line OS and not one with a graphical user interface (GUI). So I was going to overwrite the disk I used to install Xubuntu 7.10 and Ubuntu Server and put Xubuntu 7.10 back on it, but I found out that there was a new version of Xubuntu, Xubuntu Linux 8.04 Hardy Heron. So I clicked download and when I woke up in the morning I discovered that it had finished it’s thing. I loaded it on the disk and starting installing it.
The first thing I noticed is that during the installation process the experience is more visual in 8.04 than in 7.10. It takes you to an operating environment that actually possesses a GUI of a sort and let’s you use a window to install it. This feature is actually quite nice.
When I finally got it installed I realized that it isn't too different from 7.10. Except however that there is a "Places" button on the top bar and of course the new desktop image.
It is just as affective as Xubuntu 7.10 and I highly recommend the new release.

Shelfari got a makeover

Shelfari got a redesign. They also added a My Shelfari tab for easy access to some of the most personalized aspects of Shelfar. I personally like it, but feel free to comment and let your own opinion be known.

Official Google Blog: Our agreement to provide ad technology to Yahoo!

I thought Google had a search monopoly before, but I mean look at them now! Letting Yahoo! use AdSense like that. Yahoo! had an advertising system for their search engine already, so why didn't they just improve it? Or maybe jack up ad prices? Using Google's search advertising system will probably help Yahoo! a little but ultimately, they should have joined with Microsoft. Microsoft and Yahoo! together could have owned a huge chunk of the search market but Yahoo! had to go and crap the pants of society. Shameful. Simply shameful.

Explore the world on a Shelfari!

Today I'm trying out Shelfari and from what I've used so far it is an amazing service and just as addicting as del.icio.us. You can add books to your "shelf" using an ISBN number, author, title, or a combination of the three. You can befriend people and see what they own, want, and have read. You can also embed any of your shelfs on a blog, website, or social network (as I've done on my profile at http://electromnitimes.blogspot.com/2008/06/my-profile-vladimir-vool.html). Overall it's an excellent service and I highly recommend it.

Official Google Blog: A new flavor of Google Trends

Google has come out with an update for Google Trends! You can now export the information you get from the graphs on Google Trends to CSV data which can be read by many spreadsheet creators. Although this information isn't quite as visual as I'd prefer, it's still pretty cool. In case you didn't know in the first place, Google Trends can be used to research what people are searching for with Google. It can also be used to compare more than one term.

Hello, iPhone 3G

Apple introduced iPhone 3G yesterday. Rather interesting. It will be available at retailers on July 11th for an MSRP of $199 for the 8 GB version and $299 for the 16 GB version. It will be available in black and "white" (where the front is black and the back is white). However, with the price cut, it also becomes more expensive. Plansare $39.99 a month for voice and an additional $30 a month for unlimited 3G data. Now all Apple needs to do is drop the IPod touch's price.

Thousands of Google Gmail users can now use experimental doodads in Gmail. There are random quotations you can use as a signature, the option to display your friend's picture in chat, and yes, even a ridiculous arcade game initiated by using the & key. Some of them are clearly useful, others not so much (the latter). I'm sure there will be much joy brought to the world now they can avoid seeing the number of unread messages on their Gmail sidebars, hide their friend's status messages, insert random quotations into their e-mails, add quicklinks, and play Snake. Yes, I suppose some of that sentence was sarcastic, wasn't it?

Political Pie

I have decided to cover another topic in The Electromni Times: politics. You may have noticed that in far earlier entries, that there are some political entries, and I have chosen to bring back this concept. Every political post will be labeled with politics and every tech post will be labeled with tech (not for previous entries).

So, to start off I would like to congratulate Obama on getting the delegates required to receive the democratic nomination. I personally think he is a better choice than Hillary Clinton, however, my preferred candidate is John McCain.
