I am a stay at home mom to my daughter (2) and I am 4 months pregnant about to be 5 months.
I wasn’t able to breastfeed my first daughter because I did not have the right supplies, was to embarrassed to ask for help, and I was 17 and finishing my last few months of high school. But I really want to breastfeed this baby! I am so excited, and better prepared financially. I was really excited with my daughter but me and her dad were havin some issues due to my family. But, we are happier than ever now we moved as soon as I graduated high school and haven’t looked back since. I wish we would have moved before I had my daughter but we can only move forward.

Since I am a stay at home mom is there a point to using a breast pump? What did you do? And what was easiest? What was the best brand of breast pump? Keep in mind I am a stay at home mom so only one income coming in, so I need some what inexpensive but one that works hopefully one that runs off battery or an electric one? Unless you had a good experience with a manual one.

Thank you!

Our youngest sons are four months and three days old and so far our experience with tandem nursing has been chaotic. I have the feeling that this situation will fix itself with time and patience, and so far the boys are eating well. It is I who is going crazy.

While I am trying to stay focused and patient, I wonder if there are some products and tricks we may follow to make our lives and the children’s easier. For instance, I am thinking about buying a new breast pump. I am using a manual medela harmony breast pump I am very happy with but I can see more pumping in the near future.Particularly because I will be going back to work on December.

Do you think it will be necessary to upgrade with the pump? Can you recommend a heavy-duty, (electric?) pump. I had a rough time when our four month old was younger. A gland problem caused me to run low on my supply, but before I got the medication to fix it, I got a medela symphony electric pump to use it constantly. I didn’t like. I still have it but if there is something else out there I would like to hear of the alternative.

Any other articles that we might want to consider? We don’t use nursing pillows or have any accessories for feeding. However, since trying to feed both babies at the same time (when needed) I’ve found that my four month old gets fuzzy and cries. Newborn baby does better.

Ideally, I would like to be able to feed them at the same time in the future, so perhaps there are some things on the market to help out. I am afraid of buying expensive, unnecessary junk that will only add to the clutter of our home, but if you have a tip and some positive experience with something they bought to tandem nurse, I would be very grateful if you shared it with us
There is nothing extraordinary about it Yes, we have a four month old and a three day old. One of them came to us through adoption and that is all there is to it. I can see why the first sentence confused you. My bad.

**NOTE: I don’t want to hear any BS from people preaching "breastfeed, don’t pump!"**

For the last day or two, I’ve felt some engorgement at the bottom of my right breast, but when I pump, it doesn’t empty all the way. I massage beforehand, while I’m pumping, and I’ve even pumped, massaged, and hooked back up again. I’ll still get 2-3 oz every 3 or 4 hours from that breast alone, but at the end, it still feels hard deep inside when I squeeze my breast.

It just felt engorged to the touch before, but now, it seems like it’s backing up; it’s getting so engorged that it’s starting to hurt. It was doing fine just a few days ago…why the sudden change? And what can I do to fix this?

As I said, I massage before and during pumping, and I’ve tried using a heating pad, a damp warm washcloth, and even hopping in the shower for a few minutes before pumping, and that part of the breast still doesn’t empty all the way.

That is what it seems like. The past few days my son does not seem to want to breastfeed. I give him pureed jar food maybe once a day. And tastes of actual real food (soft foods) He will be 6 months on Aug 3 , started solids at 4 1/2 months because he wasn’t gaining a lot of weight even though doc said it was okay about his weight gain. DS does not want to sit still to eat unless he wants to take a nap, then he will stay on my breast until he falls asleep. He kicks, scratches, looks around then goes back but won’t stay very long. I tried the making him hungry route but that doesn’t help either.

I have been trying to find some info online about it but there is not a lot I can find if it it something for concern or just a phase…

I am going to contact a lactation consultant Monday( I have to any way for other issues) and set up an appointment but before that… Is this a normal phase or does it signify something is wrong like I am not making enough milk?

He is tongue tied severely but insurance won’t approve to get it fixed. I haven’t been able to pump any milk at all and my son physically cannot take bottles or sippy cups if I wanted to give formula.
I had no problems pumping up to 4 months then I couldn’t get anything. A nipple shield won’t help because my son is unable to latch correctly in the first place but his insurance doesn’t seem to care about him being tongue-tied. I guess I will just wait until I can see the lactation consultant and go from there…
The insurance won’t do it because a lactation consultant (yet they don’t have one in their network) or a speech pathologist(son only says mama) has to submit the request. I cannot express much milk by hand to mix with cereal(maybe a spoonful) so he doesn’t get cereal and pumping doesn’t work. I have tried all sorts of things to get him to sit still while eating and only when he wants to sleep he will. I try jarred food, he does not like any of the orange foods at all. I normally will feed him at night if I feed solids at all because there are times where he just does not want to eat.

He is not fussy over anything aside from when he refuses to take a nap, and as for teething it looks like he is but that is the spot where his frenulum is attached to the gum so it will impair how his teeth grow in too I am sure… He shows signs he is hungry but when I put him to my breast he just plays around and refuses to eat so I put him down and he is happy.

Haven’t changed my diet at all. I star

Haven’t changed my diet at all. I started periods again when he was 3 months old and started sleeping all night so I know it isn’t because of that.

I think when I drink milk it disagrees with him, I am thinking it may be all dairy as the days I limit it he seems to do better but maybe it is my imagination as well, so I am bringing that up with the doctor in a week and a half at the 6 month appointment. Lactation I am calling Monday to see if it will be covered by the insurance. I am going to be changing doctors after this appointment as I cannot stand the doctor at all for numerous reasons.

I’m expecting my second child. If it is a girl my friend is going to throw me a "diaper shower." Since I have mostly everything I need, I will just need clothes and diapers as gifts mostly. I will still be making a registry however cause there will be some things that I will need again even though my son will only be 20 months old when the new baby arrives, like breast pump accessories, bottles, crib bedding, and crib (since my son will still be using his). There is also a 9 cube storage cubby thing that I would like to register for with the fabric draw bins. I want 2 of them so my kids will each have their own. Is it ok to ask for 2 and register for green bins for one, and pink bins for the other? I won’t do it if it’s not appropriate, but my husband is a mechanic and i’m a stay at home mom, so there isn’t much of an income to purchase stuff like that ourselves. Is it ok to have one thing on there for my son too?
The baby won’t be in our room. Our son was in his crib since day 1 and so will this baby. Modern days it’s ok to have shower’s if it’s been more than 5 years since your first, or if you are having a different gender child. I saved all my sons clothes too, but I can’t wear boys summer clothes on a girl born in January. My stroller, carseat, pack n play, and high chair are all blue, but I still would use them on the girl cause I wouldn’t feel right getting new stuff just cause I didn’t go gender neutral. But I do need to have a registry cause I need specific brand of items, like medela pump accessories and bottles.

Ok so baby #2 is coming along in just 9 more weeks! (yay!) However the great breastfeeding debate is coming along. My last child I had an EXTREME LACK of support, including my husband. (which loves me so, but doesn’t agree with any BFing benefits and thinks it takes his daddy time away) So talking about it to him isn’t really going to help…..to make matters worse I have but maybe 2 mommy friends that BF exclusively that I can talk to and I am unable to attend classes.
After reading books I still came across issues with my son.
1. IT HURT!!!!! My nipples were so raw and sore even the lanolin did so much to help
2. I was never sure my son had enough to eat even if both breasts were drained
3. BFing at night was horrid, I lost sleep and if I didn’t get up to feed or pump I couldn’t sleep anyway cause I’d be in pain from engorgement.
What can I do to ease these issues. WIC is so robot like when it comes to explaining BFing and offer little help, "Just keep trying. It’s the latch, fix the latch by doing this. It’s the best thing for baby." The same shit over and over again. BUT I really don’t want to waste oodles of money on formula! So any EXPIERENCED moms out there no tips to fix this mess before my daughter is born.

My wife and my sister have always had a rocky relationship. My sister is very ungrateful, like if you do something for her she acts as if you HAD to do it so no gratitude is necessary. She has a habit of TELLING people that they are going to do her favors instead of asking them.

Anyway, about 4 or 5 months ago my sister found out she was pregnant, and the baby daddy (who is now her husband) worked all the time and was not around to help her out if she needed it or to go to meetings for soon-to-be-moms with her so she asked my wife to go with her. So, ever since my sister found out she was pregnant, my wife has been making an effort to get along with her and has gone with her to EVERY meeting for soon-to-be-moms. These meetings are one on one in the house of the soon-to-be-mom by the way.

So, the organization that does these meetings gives free breast pumps for moms that intend to go back to work or to school soon after having the baby. They do not check, you just have to say that you currently do plan on going back to work or school after the baby and they will give you one. Well, the person from the organization that has been meeting with my sister told her (while my wife was there) that regardless of whether or not it was true, that all she had to do was verbally tell her that she planned to go to work or school after the baby and she would give her the breast pump.

My sister does NOT plan to go back to work or school, she plans to be a stay at home mom, so my wife said "that would be wrong, don’t lie." So, my sister didn’t get the breast pump because the person meeting with my sister was afraid that my wife would turn her in if she did. She also said (not in front of my wife) that she did not think my wife should come to the meetings anymore.

My sister then called me and asked me to tell my wife that she could no longer come to the meetings. My wife is upset because she has been attending 2 meetings per week for 4-5 months and has never missed a single meeting, all because my sister wanted her there, even when it was inconvenient to attend.

I understand both points, and my sister doesn’t think it is a big deal, but my wife doesn’t want to see or talk to my sister anymore. She lives just down the road and they invite us over at least once a week, so it will be problematic.

What can be done to fix this situation? What would you do if you were my sister? What would you do if you were my wife?
My wife never said she would tell, and even said that she would not "narc" if she did lie, she was just saying that it was wrong to lie, even if lying will benefit you. I agree with this. Personally, I would have lied to get the free breast pump, but I do agree that it is wrong.
I did side with my wife, but I am still the go-between. My sister wants to act as if nothing happened (short of my wife no longer attending the meetings) but my wife is hurt that after all she did she was cast aside at the request of the organizations representative.

So, this weekend we were supposed to let my sister ride with us to a family get-together so that we didn’t take 2 cars even though we would all easily fit in one, but my wife doesn’t want her to ride with us anymore. I don’t know what to do because my sisters husband has to work that day and needs the car, so if we do not take my sister then she cannot go.
