Vapor King Editor Review »

Pros: Fantastic vapor production and strong hit. Excellent battery life. Superb customer service. USB pass-through included with some kits. Uses cartomizers instead of separate atomizers and cartridges (cartomizers seem to be better quality).

Cons: Size. Color choices on some kits are rather unappealing.

Vapor King Price

The Vapor King comes with a variety of kit options. The mini PCC kit (PCC = portable charging case) comes with 1 battery, 1 portable charging case, 1 pack of 5 cartomizers, a USB charger, a USB-to-wall wart adapter, and costs $45.00. This is not a “mini” as in size…the “mini” refers to the fact that this kit comes with 1 battery instead of 2.

They also offer an Ultimate Starter Kit, which comes with 2 Vapor King batteries in your choice of colors, 1 USB-Powered pass-through, 1 carrying case, 1 box of 5 cartomizers, 1 USB charger, 1 wall charger, and costs $69.50.

Available Colors

The Vapor King has a huge selection of battery colors. The only problem we found was the cartomizers don’t always match up with the battery, so you might have a blue battery and a white cartomizer…not a huge deal but something to be aware of. The product has 15 different battery color options as of this writing. Copper, gold, gunmetal, purple, black, lavender, blue, red, green, light green, camo green, chrome, bronze, white, and pink…phew that was a lot!

They also have a selection of carrying case colors, depending on whether you order a charge-on-the-go carrying case or a standard carrying case, you can select from blue, green, light green, lavender, pink, platinum, purple, red, silver, white, and yellow.

If you choose a kit with a USB pass-through, which is like a battery with a wire attached to it that connects to a USB port so you can vape in your office without worrying about draining your batteries. Color options for the USB pass-throughs include the same options as the batteries.

Finally, the cartomizers vary in color depending on what you buy. You could end up with green, blue, tan, or a variety of other colors. It’s a crap-shoot really.

Vapor King Size

The only thing we don’t love about the Vapor King is the size. It’s a big e-cig. Picture a Camel Wide 100, then add about 15% to the length. Now e-cig enthusiasts don’t mind this at all, in fact it’s a benefit because the larger battery lasts longer than competing products. So, if size is an important factor for you, you may want to try Blu Cigs. If battery life is more important, this may be a perfect fit.

Batteries

Battery life is great on the Vapor King. Depending on how you smoke, you’ll generally pull about 4 cartridges out of each battery, which is equivalent to roughly 60 cigarettes. Vapor King has a charge-on-the-go carrying case, which is included in some starter kits or can be purchased separately and that will allow you to carry extra batteries, as well as charge them when you’re away from the home or office.

Cartridges

One of the most often overlooked aspects of the Vapor King is the enormous cartridge selection. Vapor King bills itself as having the largest selection of cartomizers in the world. We don’t know if that’s true, but they definitely have well over 100 different flavors available.

Another big win for the Vapor King is that they also offer empty cartomizers that you can refill with your favorite e-liquid. This is perfect for those who already have a favorite e-liquid they want to use with the Vapor King. These are slightly cheaper than the pre-filled cartomizers at $8.95 for a box of 5 vs. $9.95 – $10.50 or so for a box of 5 pre-filled.

Vapor King cartomizers last quite a while; the equivalent of 14 – 18 cigarettes, depending on how you smoke. This is another big seller over other brands with as little as 2 cigarettes per cartridge.

Draw

Very smooth draw. Very similar to a real cigarette.

Throat Hit

One of the strongest we’ve reviewed so far. This feels just like a real cigarette when you hit it. Everyone here seems to prefer a strong throat hit to a weak one. That said, if you don’t like a strong throat hit, you’ll definitely want to look elsewhere.

Vapor Production

While this isn’t as important as throat hit to us, we’ve been asked by several readers to include this in our reviews. Vapor Production is excellent. It’s not the best we’ve tried, but it’s pretty substantial. Definitely close to a real cigarette. Incidentally, we noticed if you use the USB pass-through there seems to be a bit more vapor production. Might just be my imagination, but either way the Vapor King produces a nice, thick cloud.

Ordering Experience

Vapor4Life prides itself on customer service and they don’t disappoint. They actually contacted us the day after ordering because they were temporarily out of the particular flavor we wanted. They were very accommodating and even offered to send the flavor free when they got it back in stock.

Overall

This is the only ECig we’ve found to date that can compete with Blu Cigs as an all-around best electronic cigarette. The only downside is the size really. However, the outstanding performance of the Vapor King really outweighs any problems with it’s size.

I wasn’t a big fan of the the appearance of the carrying case either, but someone else in the office here liked it a lot, so I’ll have to chalk that one up to taste.

Overall, if you’re looking for one of the best e-cigs on the market, and prefer a longer battery life to a super compact size, the Vapor King will be a perfect fit.

However, Nitrosamines are a non-issue with electronic cigarettes…here’s a comparison chart from a recent Boston University study comparing Nitrosamine levels in various nicotine products, including electronic cigarettes.

The interesting thing here is that while they have just slightly higher Nitrosamine levels than FDA-approved stop smoking aids, electronic cigarettes contain less than 00.18% of the total Nitrosamines found in Marlboro Ultra Lights.

This means you’d have to smoke more than 587 electronic cigarettes to get the same amount of Nitrosamines in a single Marlboro Ultra Light.

Electronic Cigarettes more effective than the patch or gum

Even though electronic cigarettes aren’t designed to be used to quit smoking, the study found that 31 percent of respondents reported having quit smoking within 6 months of purchasing an electronic cigarette. This is about twice as effective as traditional nicotine replacement products like the patch or nicotine gum, which only have a 12-18% average 6-month abstinence rate.

In addition, the study found that almost 67% of respondents reported having reduced the number of cigarettes they smoked after using electronic cigarettes.

According Michael Siegel, on of the study’s authors and professor of community health sciences at Boston, “This study suggests that electronic cigarettes are helping thousands of ex-smokers remain off cigarettes.”

Siegel says that “while it is well-recognized that nicotine plays a role in smoking addiction, little attention has been given to the behavioral aspects of the addiction. These devices simulate the smoking experience, which appears to make them effective as a smoking cessation tool.”

States still fighting to ban e-cigs

A number of objective studies have suggested that electronic cigarettes are quite a bit better than tobacco cigarettes. Still, a number of states and municipalities have sought bans on the devices in an attempt to wipe anything even remotely associated with cigarettes off the face of the Earth. According to Siegel, “banning this product would invariably result in many ex-smokers returning to cigarette smoking,” and “would substantially harm the public’s health.”

A few more interesting quotes from the study:

On electronic cigarettes compared to tobacco cigarettes:

• “Theoretically, we would expect vaping to be less harmful than smoking as it delivers nicotine without the thousands of known and unknown toxicants in tobacco smoke.”
• “A product that mimics the act of smoking, in addition to delivering nicotine, can address both pharmacologic and behavioral components of cigarette addiction.”

On the safety of electronic cigarettes

• “As [about] 5300 of the estimated 10,000 – 100,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke have ever been identified, we already have more comprehensive knowledge of the chemical constituents of electronic cigarettes than tobacco ones.”
• “[Tobacco-specific nitrosamines] (TSNAs) have been detected in two [previous] studies at trace levels of 8.2 ng/g. This compares with a similar level of 8.0 ng in a nicotine patch, and it is orders of magnitude lower than TSNA levels in regular cigarettes…a 500-fold to 1400-fold reduction in concentration.”
• “The presence of [diethylene glycol] (DEG) in one of the 18 cartridges studied by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is worrisome, yet none of the other 15 studies found any DEG.”
• “Other than TSNAs and DEG, few, if any, chemicals at levels detected in electronic cigarettes raise serious health concerns.”
• “Although the existing research does not warrant a conclusion that electronic cigarettes are safe in absolute terms…a preponderance of the available evidence shows them to be much safer than tobacco cigarettes and comparable in toxicity to conventional nicotine replacement products.”

Unfortunately, this move suggests Rosenthal hasn’t been paying attention to the electronic cigarette news wire so I’ll key her in on a little “secret”:

A federal judge declared that e-cig companies are not selling the devices as “smoking cessation aids,” and as such, they cannot be regulated by the FDA. In the mind of the United States government at this point in time, electronic cigarettes are no different than regular cigarettes…just another way to get that nicotine fix (albeit probably a hell of a lot more safely).

So, Ms. Rosenthal, the United States government sees electronic cigarettes as simply alternatives to regular cigarettes. Because of this, you may be waiting quite a while for the FDA to run further tests on the devices.

I’m curious as to why Ms. Rosenthal isn’t pushing for testing and further regulation on standard tobacco cigarettes when they are clearly more dangerous than electronic cigarettes.

It amazes me that politicians are fighting so hard – no doubt only to please their constituents and get re-elected – to ban electronic cigarettes when they are quite clearly a safer alternative to tobacco cigarettes. People seem to be against anything that is even remotely linked to tobacco or smoking, even if it’s a product that is clearly a better alternative to traditional smoking.

Ms. Rosenthal’s time would be better spent encouraging people to switch to electronic cigarettes with the ultimate goal of quitting smoking altogether. Any smoker knows how addictive smoking is, and trying to quit cold turkey is tough. If there’s an option to help smokers move to a safer alternative, shouldn’t we be encouraging that instead of trying to handicap them from the outset?

E-Cigs have made huge advances and are gaining in popularity by leaps and bounds, especially by former smokers as a healthier alternative. Although they aren’t marketed as smoking-cessation products, per say, many people are using them to get off tar-infested traditional cigarettes.

Electronic cigarette does not support second hand smoke. So this eliminates the chance of anyone being harmed from second hand smoke as well as the nasty mess of ashes and the smell associated with smoking traditional cigarettes.

I can conclude this review by telling this, E- cigarettes are rapidly growing. However, I am not surprised because they are changing lives everywhere. Try it once you will also love this.
