2 American Mary Film Inspirations

If you haven't seen "American Mary" go do it! It is a great horror movie about [SPOILERS] a nursing student who ends up doing underground extreme body modification which she finds out is her calling after getting raped by her med school teacher and practicing her body mods on her revenge victims.

When I was away for the halloween store, we did a special effects workshop and got a pack of bullet holes. I made the joke to my sister how they would work great as nipples if you just filled the hole part or turned them inside out (depending on how they were originally made).

So tonight I did! Part inspiration from the body modification that "American Mary" might have done and also a bit of an homage to the "Mallrats" gypsy scene by Kevin Smith.

Below is NOT SAFE FOR WORK : extreme body modification speical effects, nudity, adult movie refferences... not good to look at work but I deffinately am not ashamed of the movies I like or my love of body modification.

Inspiration #1

So the homage to "Mallrats" was having the extra nipple, from the scene where they go to the dirt mall to talk to the gypsy who has to be topless to do her fortune telling and has a stick on fake 3rd nipple for show. I wanted to out do that so I did 3.

Now also the 3 is what I think that a character in "American Mary" would go to Mary to get 2 extra nipples sewn on. Just to make it more gross and also I guess I was also inspired by a short film called "The Sewing Circle" by Richard Kern: where for real a lady sews through surface piercings on her labia which I always thought was gross and neat at the same time. I do have my nipples pierced so don't worry I was not being unsafe with such a delicate area, its fake blood, the holes have been open for many years and the needle was cleaned before I inserted into my actual skin after going through the 1st fake nipple.

I filled the bullet holes (put on normally, not turned inside out they didn't have a sticky-outy part) and filled the holes with the pulled off tips from a qtip and flesh coloured liquid latex.

yup I'm a drama queen.

Inspiration #2

In "American Mary" she has a client named Ruby Real Girl who wants to be a barbie doll, which means no sexual parts. I liked the idea of "barbie boobs" so I tried it out. This would of been way easier if I had normal tape down skin coloured pasties but I didn't and I tried many things, just wax putty, a big bandaid.. finally I found some medical fabric tape. Getting a nipple to stay down when you're messing around with it is hard... haha pun.

I used a brighter filter on the top photo just to super get the barbie boob look, I think I got pretty close to the movie, seeing as you can still see through their makeup job as well.

I ended up doing the same routine that I use to cover eyebrows when I want to draw a different shape on: cover with glue( this time I opted for the flesh toned liquid latex), cover with foundation and pat with powder and repeat till the lines are covered.

I hope you all check out the films I talked about if you haven't seen them if you love horror/alt/indie movies! Please no rude comments because please understand that I love horror, the human body, body modifications in all shapes and that I am not trying to be rude just wanted to express an idea that I had as a special effects artist.

Auto Accident

Bruising is fun, but on film its hard. The point is to see it. Bruises sometimes don't show up for days, or are really small, or are really light and just seem dark and painful to us. Whenever I make a bruise for anything really, I go in knowing this and try to explain it to whomever is asking or directing me, but also realizing that lights blot out what I've done, you have to be able to pick it out and you really want it to tell the story of what has happened just by looking at the subject.

A month ago I posted a pic of instagram asking if you could tell the story from this photo:

Could be a fight? Could be a fall?

Well what it was for was a commercial I was hired for, but it never came to be, I have it but am not allowed to fully show it which is a shame, it was made by the same director I have worked with before and it was really funny! Here are the 2 shots that tell the story for my bruises:

It was a mechanic commercial and it had a few different scenarios about trying to fix your car yourself and getting frustrated. Unfortunately this guy got his hand slammed in the car and in another scene he got the hood to the face.

Here are my closer shots I took day of, I wanted it to be a more fresh bruise which aren't very colourful, They are more just red with whatever new scratches may be in them.

I wish I could show you this video, I can't get over how funny it is. Ah well tis the life of film and marketing.

Wig Wars Year 2: Queen Portia Once Again!

Though everyone was amazing and had great acts, We wish they could all be winners(they did get awesome prizes though) I loved all of their dance numbers and there were a few newbies to the group who did mind blowing performances :)

We have finally scraped with the blocking out of the eyebrows like we did in the early days. So instead I wax and shape them. We also found that keeping the beard, makes lipstick POP!The beard also helps the cheekbone contouring even more too!
I even joined in the non drag lipsync for your life round 2, and won(I better if I am the makeup aid to the queen :) ) These shows are for everyone and if you haven't been to one, try it out! They are super fun, super entertaining and awesome to support out LGBT community!

My Zombies Commercialized

Don't worry guys I didn't forget about you.

I finally got a step up in my career for Elegant Embodiments. I have landed a commercial for Dougall Media in town!

Remember last month when I asked on my instagram

Well this was what I was doing:

I think its the best commercial, its hilarious!

So because the grass was so green and we were on a green screen I couldn't really put much green in there. I did to make almost holes instead which were pretty much covered up in the end, but I figured I could test it out.

I started off with a really dark grey bade, then lightened it with blues and reds. I added the really thick and black veins so they would be seen on the screen. From my screen shot they read pretty well.

Thanks again to Andrew Paulsen ( a awesome actor("Schism"), writer and director) for hooking me up with this and now for letting me work with you more for more commercials!

This year I was so busy selling makeup I actually didn't have any time to do much. I didn't even go out this year though Kyle and I had giant awesome plans. Oh Well 2 photoshoots will have to happen then for the big ideas I have incorporating some new prosthetic appliances that I got from my store.

Halloween Past and Present

Just for those looking at the blog trying to find all the Halloween ideas I've done over the years here's a last post by Elegant Embodiments. As of November 10th I will be moving to a new website and a new company: Sweet Cherry Spa. My Wedding

In August I became extreamly busy with getting married and opening my halloween store.

My wedding was a Victorian Pirate wedding we had. I did half of my own hair, everyone's nails and me, Emily's and Nikki's makeup. I just wanted to share what we did.

Gastric Bypass and Cosmetic Surgery 2 years Progress

Many of you who know me or know a bit about me: know that I had a gastric bypass 2 years ago. Last year around this time was when I was ready to start preparing for a breast augmentation and a arm skin removal(brachioplasty). This is my story, about becoming beautiful healthier.

I know this doesn't follow my average beauty makeup or special effects or fashion, But I do think it is still relevant. Feel free to skip this entry if you want. Or read along and hear this story. (NSFW photos ahead that are medical in nature not adult)

I want to state that I never thought I was ugly, or too fat or anything that was not beautiful about myself when I was plus size. Everyone has ugly days where they don't feel good but overall I was fine with how I looked and who I was/am. The problem with being 340lbs is that my back was broken when I was 250lbs and 4 years of gaining weight on top of that made it so much worse that I couldn't work anymore. My herniated disc in my back with the spinal stenosis made it so painful that I couldn't walk some days, stand up straight, sit up properly or even get much sleep. I was on heavy pain killers which was a struggle for me when I am a former addict. I felt horrible that I needed more and asking for me made me feel like I was giving up, like a junkie, and that I was just a weak human being.

this was just after high school, when I 1st asked for a gastric bypass about 250lbs here

I tried going to the gym but it got too expensive, tried going for walks but I was in so much pain I couldn't get very far, tried going on different diets but either I would be too broke to afford fresh meat and veggies for weekly groceries. So I finally asked for a gastric bypass(for the second time in my life).

I had tried to get one before when I was 19 but at that time they weren't doing them in Canada, and the closest doctor in the states wouldn't take me because I was too young. I had gained 75lbs for every 6 months once I started on depo prevera shot(I was told due to my extremely painful menses that this would help). I lost some of the weight during the time I was in college(about 60lbs) but then gained it back after I hurt my back.

So in 2012 I applied again while I was on disability for a chance at a gastric bypass. I had changed doctors to a female doctor. My old GP had been my doctor since I was born, and he just kinda treated bigger people like they were just lazy and gave no credibility to any other under laying issues.(he treated my mum that way and a few other good friends who are plus sized) Once I was accepted into the program I was gun-ho about proving to them I was the perfect candidate. I stopped drinking pop, I started a food journal. I started going to the gym again(this time I got a personal trainer who understood chronic pain and the gym had a pool, a steam room, a hot tub and a sauna). On my own I did loose about 10 lbs. But then in the winter I slipped and fell on some ice and really messed up my back and hip and couldn't walk or drive for a few weeks which set me back.

In May 2012, right before my surgery I had a seizure. I was told I have some rare form of seizure(which I'm still getting tested for), but was cleared of epilepsy for the time being so I could still have the surgery.

On June 1st 2012 I had my gastric bypass. This is the surgery where the operate on you, they cut your stomach into a tiny pouch that you can fit the tip of your pinky finger into and leave the rest to add bile into your colon later on. I was in the hospital for a week. This was when my wonderful now-husband kept me company over the internet and awesome phone calls. He even put up with my stupid morphine induced jibberish rants.

2 weeks pior the doctors put you on a liver shrinking diet, just on that I lost 30lbs. The shakes took a bit to get used to but they are some of the best protein shakes I've had. I want to drink them again but I am at this point in time I am unsure if they are healthy to have when you are still eating(which, I would think, not put you into ketosis(pre-liver failure)).

4 days after surgery, happy I didn't have 2 iv's in my hand anymore. I don't know what it is but IV in my hand is really scary to me. I will restrain myself from moving even a inch in that hand. I am scare that the artery is too small and a tendon moving will push it out and I'll bleed alot or something.

At this point I could drink 1 small watercooler cup of water a day. I was on a strictly liquid diet. Each week or 2 I could add a few more things. Most stuff was gross, I never liked oatmeal and that was a big one that I had to eat. Also ensure's are gross.

I did however start to actually like yogurt and cottage cheese. Before I thought that it was gross. My favorite thing was making scrambled eggs and mixing it with 1/3 cup of pasta sauce. It took about 6 months to be able to eat meat and bread for the first time.

I also had to start a list of pills to take every day for the rest of my life:

pre natal multivitamins because they have more of everything

pantaloc to prevent uclers forming

vitamin D and E to help my scars and skin tighten up faster

calcium because after this surgery the potential for osteoporosis is very high

for the first month I had to also take a shot of vitamin K directly into my stomach daily

I also take 2 pain killers and birth control

a month after surgery, lost about 50lbs at this point. Wearing what was once a waist chincer as a top but it was safety pinned together because it was too big.

this is about 220lbs-200lbs this is winter 2012-13

After loosing the first aprox 100lbs: my chronic pain was under control. I could go for 2 1 hour long walks each day. I could go dancing, and I was at the point of the surgery where I was at my "diet for life".

But at this time I was still not handling bread or meat very well. Same with sugar. Some days I NEEDED sugar, to the point where the nurse thought I was hypoglyemic. I would shake, have blackouts, faint, not be able to see very well.. other days I was almost diabetic. I would go into shock if I had a bit of sugar, throw up, have hot and cold flashes and be in bed for hours with a migraine. Unfortunately these 2 sugar related symptoms still are happening.

Throwing up with this new kind of stomach isn't fun either. I don't have a gag reflex from all the tubes they put down your throat for scans, scopes, airways and other surgery stuff. I also have no bile so everything comes up not fast but slow, it crawls up my throat and is just the mush of whatever I chewed(or what sometimes is the cause is not chewing it enough) with whatever I drank and spit. It takes a long time to throw up and my new nick name for this post-op phase is called "forced bulimia".

The only medical downside to this was my seizures started getting worse and the fact that I was lighter meant I spasm-ed harder and flung around more. I wasn't heavy anymore to keep myself on the ground, so now I was getting hurt while having my seizures.

At this time I also started my full time job as a esthetics teacher. Over the year that I worked there I lost about 60lbs. The weight started to drop off more slowly as I was building up new muscle, playing with Kyle's kids and working all the time.

My husband was there for me from the day I had my 1st seizure till now, through all the traveling, blood, pus, bandages, crying, pain, exercise and throwing up. I still don't know how he has that much faith in me.

In the spring , my mum died and I had to clean out and renovate her house(she was a really bad hoarder), also clean out my 3 generation home I had been living in for the past 7 years and sell it. So all that work and gained alot of muscle that I didn't have before. Some of my skin started to tighten up a little bit.

Past this point are some more graphic photos(nudity and post-surgery) if you want to read on, please do if not feel free to ask questions if you still want to know, or if you have any negative comments keep them to yourself.

In September of 2013 I started my next step which was a breast augmentation and getting my arm skin removed.

As you can see above my skin was so hanging that you could fit another arm in there. I started getting rashes in my armpits and my breasts were all skin and no fat. No mammary fat either. That was the most depressing thing during this time(about my body: obviously my mum dying was #1 on that list as a whole). I loved having big breasts, I was proud of my 46EEE cups. It was definitely apart of who I was. They were how(i thought at least) I got guys near me to look past the belly, arms, back and legs to get near me enough to talk to me until my personality took over. It's how my friends said hello(my motor boating me). I know a lot of it sounds foolish but they were an asset to me. The skin wouldn't fit into my bras anymore, it would fall out of the bottom or spill out of the top.

In November of 2013 I went to Toronto and had my surgery. I ended up getting a breast lift, skin removal, gel implants and the arm lift. My arms lost 2lbs each and my breasts stayed about even due to the implants though they were now 38 D's. I thought they were very small and for a time was unhappy with them. But without the implants they would of gone down to a 38 B.

I had to keep the bandages on for about a month, I went back in December to get another check up. When they do a lift, they don't detach your nipples fully, just around them. You can see from the marker marks pre-op how high they were going to make them. They ended up actually being a bit too high so now they pop out of the front of my bra's alot. also my nipple rings were straight horizontal before hand and now they are kinda slanted in a V shape.

some scars leftover in feb 2014. I was also super excited that I had a nice form for my underarm and that I could pull off some good side boob.

this was my reward for losing all the weight: Docle & Gabanna dress size 8 :D I never had such a nice dress before even remotely come near my body. I cried in the change room at this experience. I didn't think I was such a girly girl but I guess I am. Because now I'm more than ever obsessed with fashion

Now over the past year I have been trying to loose this last 10 lbs. I just want to hit 150lbs. And I finally did! We started going to the gym, riding our bikes, walking, swimming more. Its hard to get the last 20-10 lbs because of all the extra skin. It fills up with fat so quickly but it's not hardened yet so it can be lost just as quickly.

the skin I can physically grab away from my leg. my "ponch" or whatever you want to call it is also all skin and as much as I don't want the barbie doll-porn star looking vagina... it's better than this floppy mess. It gets irritated, suffocated which results in lots of UTI's and rashes. Due to the skin being so saggy no underwear fits properly, not even granny panties.

Now all I have left is my excess skin on the bottom half of me. I still have skin on my back, my stomach and my thighs. I promised myself and my doctors that I wouldn't go for the final tummy tuck and leg lift until I had my baby that I was planning to have with Kyle. But because of the seizures I need to figure out what is going on with that and if its safe to have a baby. Or if I will be healthy enough to raise one. I do have my 2 step kids but I don't have them 24/7. We do have them 50% of the time and I think that I could do it but they are old enough (5 and 3) to know what to do when I have a seizure. I couldn't imagine falling/fainting/blacking out while being pregnant or while holding a infant.

I see no point in getting a tummy tuck then putting more stretch marks in and sagging it out again.

But so far I've lost 200+lbs and am happily married and healthier to play with my kids and my family.

Halloween Vacation

This week I have been so busy with planning my wedding(this saturday!!) and kids, and house and then my company that I work for now Halloween Alley, flew me out to their annual dealer meeting in Edmonton.

I was so excited to go, I have only been there once on a sea cadet band trip to play a giant military band performance so I didn't get to do anything, kinda same deal I missed out on the mall and going to visit the wonderful Sweet Carousel Corsetry. But it was worth it! I had so much fun learning about the company, how to run and market my store, meeting everyone and of course ALL THE AWESOME HALLOWEEN COSTUMES AND MAKEUP!!!

I was so excited I did me and my sisters nails for the trip, she is my partner in running this store.

I used the new ChinaGlaze texture to do my halloween accent nails, one a pumpkin and the other candy corn(which I actually hate, they taste like rocks).

I used the OPI acrylic nail base coat for my acrylic nails, and just now as I'm taking off my polish it did a decent job of not dying the nails black, I still will have to file the darker top layer off though because my next nails are planned to be light in colour for the wedding.

The texture worked out well for the pumpkin nail, it gave it that extra touch to the art making it feel more like a pumpkin. The candy corn because I had to layer other polishes on top turned out a mess in my opinion, from far it looks okay: but up close meh.

On Nikki's toes I did a little ghost and "BOO!" on her big toes and used a glow in the dark polish as a top coat.

On the first day we had how to used their vampire teeth and realistic tattoos. The teeth are pretty cool because they are custom molded teeth. They used the heat activated silica beads that I used to make my orc teeth with. The tattoos are awesome, they stay on for days and look realistic. the edges don't peel right away or show.

I can't just be a nice girl eh? I grabbed the larger teeth meant for men and of course, this tattoo was perfect for here. (sorry for the offensive pic for those who did get offended)

The second day to break up the talk-y seminars we did 2 makeup workshops, one was face painting and the other was how to apply the appliances that we sell. Both my areas of expertise!(though I guess that makes me a bad listener because I jump ahead and just do my own thing because I know how to use the product)

The appliance workshop was fun, we used a wound stack, gel and liquid blood and a bullet hole appliance. All made by Wookie fx. I really like the gel blood we got because its just far superior to anything I have ever used before. It's super dark, still a bit runny and a little goes a loooooonnnggg way. It says fresh of hours(I was wearing a long skirt and I had to pull it to the side when sitting down otherwise it would stick to the blood). Keep an eye out in the near future for what I have planned for these bullet hole applicances, it won't be bullet holes I can tell you that ;)

Damn high heels, always falling down and breaking my knee caps.

This was the rest of the time. Awesome props, they brought a awesome hearse to meet us for the fashion show, awesome cattered food, and of course the fashion show which I posted pics on my facebook.

I can't wait. Watch out in the next 2 months for freakshow grand openings, makeup workshops, costume workshops and much more!!

Fright Fest 2014 Advertizement

I am very excited to be working this year with Fright Fest at the marina this upcoming October.

On the weekend I got to work with yet another new photographer named Duncan Weller, I have worked with his brother before Eric, who is a professor for the film department at Confederation College.

It was a super fun shoot, w

e had 4 zombies and what turned out to be 2 survivors. Cheryl and Lily. Lily was one of the zombie's daughter who came along, and the whole time protested to being in the photos, but once we got on top of the car... yeah she was into it! We got to shoot at Ducan's house which turned out to be the old "Discraceland" a party house where lots of punk and metal bands played in my youth. It sits on the bottom of Hillcrest Park so it made for some awesome shots.

One of my bottles of liquid latex had hardened up was able to be used as bone protrusions and pus which was good, I hate wasting materials. I also had an over abundance of zombie costumes that I brought with me.
I got to use my new brow prosthetic which turned out really nice and I find in the photos it looks well blended but in person I was worried, it looked lighter to me.

I tried to make one of every kind of zombie, I wanted a blue Day of the dead, and a more neutral, a 80's punk styled Return of the Living Dead 2 zombie and a biohazardous moldy one.

Maleficent Inspired Geek

Sorry I know that I said I would be posting about other stuff for last weekend, but we had a kid's medical emergency that took me away from thinking about this.

I did get to do a nice photoshoot with Day Vid Z Photography to use some of the props that I have been making for the Fan Con in July at Old Fort William Historical Park.

If you are a fan of me on my instagram, then you have seen all my nerdy nails and other props that I have been making for sale.(Remember that you can contact me if you are interested in any of these items ahead of time)

I also have a upcoming interview in a brand new Canadian magazine called "Monstermoiselle" so I wanted a new look in super high def.

I had made some Maleficent horns, so I wanted to use those. I also made some monster teeth but they didn't fit in my model's mouth(gotta re figure these out so they are more compatible for everyone). I wanted the photo to show off everything that I do. I create props, I apply prosthetics, I can do dramatic beauty makeup and I also can apply that makeup to translate for a professional photoshoot . David added some awesome green smoke effects to the photos and it looks so awesome.

Here are what the horns looked like while I was making them. (You can find the same tutorial I used here.)

yup Hot glue gun and toilet paper rolls. After I sewed tight pointy "socks" that fit tightly over the horns and sewed them to a headband.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!

Last night Kyle and I threw our shag at the black pirates pub. For those not from Northwestern Ontario, a shag is the same as a stag and doe party. When you get married you throw a party with prizes and games to raise more money for your wedding and also to celebrate with people who aren't invited to your wedding. We didn't really need the money but did want to see everyone and rock out with our friend's bands that we love.

My wedding stuff is pretty much all around the board, pirate themed. I have this nice dress I got from BlameBetty.com and its black and white stripped. it has an option skirt addition that is retro but also makes me think that its a dress that should be in the movie for Beetlejuice.
I also just got these 6" pumps from Iron Fist that are black with monster teeth on the front.

I didn't want to do a full costume, but I did want to have a inspired makeup look. So instead of using green in my blush or contour or around the face like the costume makeup would have.

Excuse the messy eyebrows I am using a new brow growth serum and don't want to plus, wax or trim them until I can see the full results.

I did the light green blended from the inner corner out into the black that was mixed with a shimmery

dark green.

Job Interviews for the Alt Looking Woman

You would think working in this field bright hair, piercings and tattoos would be ok right? nope.

On tv all these makeup artists and nail techs and estheticians are usually alt(alternative) looking... or asian.

But in the real world, there are lots of different kinds of people in this field of work. And especially in a smaller city like Thunder Bay, tattoos and bright hair is still looked at funny.
I have been looking for work for awhile, and because my job market in flooded I am finding it a little tough there are not many jobs leftover.

I will say this is more for the esthetics part of my job, it is a more serious and high end job. That comes with expectations, mostly clean cut looking.

When I worked at the last spa, I had to ask my boss what colours I could dye my hair, and how bright. This was also my idea to compromise, I have respect for where I work, and the reputation of where I do.
When I worked for the College Corporation, by the end of my contract they were instituting a new rule saying only "natural hair colours". I had already broken the dress code rule a bit; that you could sometimes see my tattoos, but I tried my hardest. I wore lots of scarves to cover up my chest piece that goes close to my neck. I also wore long sleeves under my short sleeved scrub top in our esthetics lab so you couldn't see my half sleeve.

I also do admit that to some job interviews, if I can tell they won't even look at my resume because of my hair, I wear one of my natural colour wigs.
I don't mind wearing a wig to work, I love changing it up but it is lying and I feel silly that because of the job market being so low I have to pull this shenanigans to just get my foot in the door.

I'm not saying that you have to give up who you are, or even put up with this. I always tell the truth once I get my foot into the door, I admit and ask about tattoos, bright hair and piercings. Are they acceptable, can I show them off/try not to/or hide all of them? Are you ok with this hair colour?
I do compromise my standards, which is unfair but I need to put food on the table for my family and help keep a roof over our heads.

I hope soon in the future it will be 100% unjust to deny someone a opportunity based on how they look.

You can look at me and think that I spend all my time getting drunk and listening to punk music and doing nothing.

You wouldn't think that I have a diploma in esthetics, nail technician, funeral services and liberal arts(focusing on sociology and psychology). I have a university level understanding of chemistry, biology, anatomy and infectious materials from taking the mortuary sciences course added into the diploma in funeral services.

I like to think I am a pretty smart cookie, and that listening to punk and metal and loving tattoos shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Till Death My 3rd Year With Conflix

Tonight is the 2014 student film night for the Confederation College film class : Conflix.
I get to watch all of the amazing student's work plus once again one I worked on(only one this year? yeah I know what a gib)
This year's film is called "Till Death" it's a bride of frankenstien styled movie(of course my favourite kind)

So for once I haven't totally spoiled my work by posting it everywhere, though during my weekend of filming I did give some sneak peaks on instagram and facebook.

This was working with a whole new group of students and actors. I love meeting new people and working with super fun and creative cast and crew. Plus lunch time and off time is always the best because I get to geek out hard about movies, and now that I am getting to be pretty older than these guys I'm winning geek outs haha.

Before yesteday I hadn't seen any of my work yet, other than being there and taking my own photos I don't know how things turned out on film.
Well Anders, the director/writter, posted the trailer and had a few shots in his film reel for all of his work up to date.

I don't know if the movie is in black and white, or if its just his trailers are.(would of been nice to know because if its in black and white the contrast on makeup is way higher and some points aren't picked up. Not fully like the old days where if you google "color addams family tv set" you will see that their entire set was bright pink. Or if you have seen the colour vs. black and white Munster's you can see how green they had to be to register their skin was even a different colour than everyone else's)

So now some photos, this was my first try at using a pre-made halloween bald cap. they suck, or I at least need more practise with. Also my first time trying to afix other objects with scar jelly on a non porous surface. I think it still turned out good.

Product Review : Merle Norman Nude Inner Eyeliner and OPI Glitter Off

Last week and this week I hinted at that I acquired some new product to try out.

First from my instagram I tried out the new Merle Norman inner eyeliner in nude. I had gone in looking for a new lip pencil plus in a lighter nude than what I already have and this was suggested because its a mechanical liner.

I normally hate mechanical liners, they seem to dry out faster because they don't have the wood around keeping in the moisture, but this one so far is super creamy.
It went along my waterline really well. I didn't have to go back and forth to get that colour going through.
Its more natural looking rather than a white.

The only con was offering this as a replacement for a lipstick, it will be awesome for blanking out my lip line to draw a new one on but its so small it would take too much to
fill my lips.

The Next Product was OPI's glitter off base coat. It works as a stretchy base coat that you can peel off from underneath so you don't have to struggle filing and using a ton of nail polish remover to get those sparkles off.

I also had wanted to try doing some butterfly nail art, so I used some different glitters(small pieces, large pieces, thick and thinner ones) on my toes. Once again when I first try stuff, I shouldn't be watching a movie at the same time(this time it was the Watchmen).

So that's the outcome with the OPI glitter off.

The glitter off goes on white but dries clear.
when you do peel it off it doesn't pull your nail with it.
most pieces come off in big chunks, not that messy.

The only con is that it takes a while to dry, probably a extra minute.

Playing Dress Up

Over the last few weeks I have just been going full out dressing up to leave the house, for no actual reason, maybe just one is due to my shopping addiction of dresses.
So here's just a quick what I've been doing with my style lately, which if you follow me on my instagram or facebook then you've already seen them.

The day I had to go do a wedding cake tasting and make reno plans at home depot, I wanted to wear a new dress(not shown) which is a retro style halter dress that has a vintage circus print on it. I paired my Johnny Cash cardigan with it.
I have actually never done my hair up all in rolls before, and I was totally out of hairspray. I think it turned out really good.
All neutral makeup minus my "Pink to be" Lime Crime lipstick.
Which usually I find it a bit hard to wear cause its sooo pink but it works good with this retro, neutral look.

Then yesterday I decided that I wanted to be Freddy Krueger. I went out to friend's business' downtown to ask for shag prizes.

I wore my new wig from pleasure wigs(though I always end up cutting the bangs).

For coverage surprisingly all I used was some Merle Norman loose mineral powder and some matte cover girl mouse foundation on my lips: as I don't have a super nude lipstick (well I do now.. keep an eye out for my review) I used a dark brown, black, darkest purple and the darkest red eye shaddows to blend out on the outer corner.

The socks are from halloween town, I found the sweater, fedora and the little vest harness at value village. And of course I didn't wear out my Freddy glove, but it is a numbered special edition replica.

I also used the Marc Jacob's silver nail polish I grabbed from Sephora.

The necklace is from Hot Topic(6 years ago)

and Unfortunately I wasn't with anyone who could of taken a pic of me with my Elm Street sign: yes I live on Elm street!

Another dress (up) that I did was my new R2D2 dress and (you can't see it in the pic) I wore with it my galaxy leggings. Lipstick is "Mint to be" by Lime Crime

Last but not least, for the drag show of my friend Fantasia 10 year anniversary of doing drag, I dressed up with inspiration from Sharron Needles though everyone thought I was Lady Gaga. Both are acceptable.

Either way Needles or Gagging on Gaga: people at the show wanted to take pics with me, which was a first. I was very flattered by that. It probably also helped that other than the other Drag Queens I was the only one super dressed up.

I know I'm a day late but at least I remembered. Well that's no true, I got all dressed up and posted on instagram.

Though I am not Irish, obviously from my name you know I'm Scottish. but no one likes the Scot's.. as Groundskeeper Willie says:

So that's why there isn't a national Scottish holiday where everyone drinks more, and fights more, and eats haggis. As we know it would be called Scotchoberfest! But I grew up pretty much only wearing plaid so I dressed up and made Kyle a awesome Irish dinner for the day: of course Steak and Potatoes.

I tired to make a little clover on my nails, which already had OPI "man with the golden gun" 18k gold flake topcoat on them.

For the Eyes I used from my coastal sense palette I started mid lid with the lighter green, shaded the outer eye with the darker green and in the corner I used a mix of the gold with a more sparkely gold that I have from Annabelle.

Just to finish my rant about being Scottish and proud, I got this tattooed on my right thigh @ high tide tattoo

Grabs from Online, Sephora and ESP

Earlier today I posted on instagram a new toy I got, a giant chrome gun. I asked what do you think it is and everyone got it right: its a hair dryer!

This was my online grab I got this week. I have seen this on pinterest a million times and keep looking for it to get cheaper on ebay. I couldn't help myself to this 1980's Jedoran .375 Magnum Gun hair dryer this time I looked at ebay. it was about 200-300$ but it still works and is just awesome to own. I don't want to actually use it on my hair, just have something so unique.

My Sephora grabs were some makeup forever black chrome lip gloss, Sugar Rose tinted lip balm, Urban Decay Naked skin "ultra definition pressed finishing powder" and "weightless ultra definition liquid makeup", Marc Jacobs "Stone Jungle" polish, Nails INC leather and Ciate gold nail studs.

The makeup forever lip gloss, isn't as thick as I thought it should be, it's black and might look better if I had a matte black base of lipstick.

A few years ago, at my 1st time I ever went to Sephora, I went for my birthday and I got a small sample of this Sugar rose tinted lip balm. I loved it so much I bought it again! Original Post here

Next I got the Urban Decay Naked foundations. I know how popular this line is, especially the eye shadow pallets that I decided that I didn't want to get at this time.

The weightless ultra definition liquid makeup has many many claims:

"100% of participants had a measurable improvement in the appearance of skin imperfections. 96% had a measurable improvement in skin radiance and 93% had measurable improvement in the appearance of fine lines"

Because it is so fine and thin for a liquid it feels amazing to have on your skin. it keeps good colour and even with a thin layer: it does cover most imperfections.

As my key word was MOST, if you have dry skin and haven't ex foliated, or for many dry sensitive skin people, you will need a primer or at least a moisturiser. otherwise as you can in the photos my flaky skin peaking through.

The Naked Skin Ultra Definition pressed finishing powder is all pros! it goes on really light, fills in imperfect spots and you can't even feel it!

I already posted also on instagam the pedicure I gave myself with my new Marc Jacobs "Stone Jungle" chrome nail polish. It goes on matte, but when you add a top coat it looks super shiny and like real chrome.

I tested out the nails INC leather and the Ciate gold studs together because I love the punk/metal look.

The leather polish dries super fast but you can't use a top coat with it. It even feels like leather!!! The studs I just glued on, and I think they'd work better with a gel top coat, I don't think they'll last every long just glued, because they are flat and nails are curved.

At ESP I got a LCN halloween and winter gel colour kits for fun. This 02 multicolour stars. I hate to admit it but it took me till today to ever use gel colour and I love it! Goes so so smoothly and I love this colour!

Super excited now for tomorrow I am off to Las Vegas! I hope to bring back another group of new products to try!

Starting Off the New Year Wrong

I do realize that it's my first post of 2014, and if you have been following my facebook you'd know that just for the new year I wanted to do some fun nail art with a new polish I got.

Well following another facebook post I had made about how I am not liking Essie polish any more.
I still will randomly grab it and now I have my big regret and will never do so: my new years resolution.

Sorry that it's a negative review post. But out with the old and in with the new year of trying to find the perfect nail polish.

My last purchase of essie nail polish was "belugaria". its black with inlayed large sparkles. I thought it would be perfect for a back drop for nails.
It was not advertised as having matte smaller sparkles in it(well not where I bought it, online it does), and you can't see them through the glass.

Obviously I was surprised that it had this weird texture, not to say I don't like textured nail polishes, OPI's liquid sand is fine, I don't find it annoying to wear. (my liquid sand review)

This doesn't go on very well, usually some fuller sparkle nail polishes go on with a bit of trouble. But this was hard to get to lay even in a streaky way
even when trying to set a top coat over, it won't set right, parts stick up and out of it.

with top coat, only one nail looks okay(take away that I was so mad that I didn't even bother to do any clean up around my cuticles)

All I can really say it looks nice in the bottle. even the better pictures online look bad to me.

Sorry essie but you are no longer valued to me, and especially this one is straight into the garbage bin.

Once salon quality brands go public, salons shouldn't use them anymore for a number of reasons. One of the reasons is that well if you can go buy it for 5$ at wal mart, why would you pay the worth of 8$ that's part of the full manicure price.

Another, what I think is the more important reason is, once production of a product gets bigger, it's very hard to keep the same quality within that product. that goes for the actual chemicals used in the product and the ideas of the people working for the company.

Well with 'tis the season... for me to try my new prosthetics I got!

I love the Hobbit and everything in the realm of middle earth. Kyle and I are going to be seeing the Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug for our second time tonight.

The theme of this year's Christmas is definitely Elves: Santa's elves, elves from middle earth, elves in general!

I had gotten these from a website after halloween so I wanted to use them finally. the tips are backless so they can fit to almost any ear type, and aren't heavy at all.

I added earrings to match my colour scheme(white and red). I was really surprised that they didn't rip, but the foam is pretty thick, and moveable. You can't even see the hole up close either after I took them out. Very happy I didn't ruin them.

For my makeup I used a water based cream white for an under glow.

then used my powder mineral foundation from Merle Norman for over top and blend it really well.

I used red eye shaddow to match my eyebrows to my hair.

My eyes I used white eyeliner around the outer corners. I used a base of light gold and mixed in a shimmery brown and a medium light grey. I smudged the back eyeliner only on the outer side of my eye, and only used mascara on the outside edge.

My lips I had whited out before and made a bit smaller, using my lip pencil plus "hussy" from Merle Norman. Making the lips smaller I find gives you a cuter but more serious look.

The headpiece is actually just a necklace I had and I used bobby pins on the ends to run the chain through my hair.

for my nails I got this new OPI polisj by Mariah Caery called "Pure" it is a 18k white gold and silver flake top coat. I was under the impression when I got it that it was a matte solid but it turned out it looks like expensive snow flakes so I'm okay with it.

Bay of Banana's Charity Fundraiser

My friends were very brave to pose for this awesome calendar, all in their "banana hammocks" for the opportunity to help out prostate cancer research.

They held a gala event to launch the calendar, and me and a group of small women business owners got a table. The night was super fun, I love networking, the food was great and the entertainment was awesome!

I wanted to wear my new dress and as my instagram tease pics were these:

unless you remember the pagent queen episode of "King of the Hill", are a drag queen or know lots of random fashion tricks: this is how you keep your back fat/skin out of the way for a nice smooth back for a backless dress.

Here's the dress I wore: its from Dollskill.com and is called the "morticia dress"(how could I NOT buy this?!)

here's my look

I did my own hair, I bought a new curling wand: Verge Curl Styx (3 interchangeable barrel curling wand)

Eyes:

MAC "genuine treasure" eye paint pot
GOSH "05 plummy"
GOSH "14 fox"
anabelle" Solar"
MAC "blitz and glitz" liquid pot eyeliner
MAC black extreme mascara

The first 3 were all blended on the upper lid and brought around the outer corner to under my eye half way. Starting with a blend of the red and plum, adding the genuine treasure on top. I added more plummy to the outer edge to darken it.

I added the solar to the bottom inner corner of my eye.

Lips were a blend of Merle Norman "bistro berry" and Sinful colours "red".

Hot Buns Review

Very rarely do I buy "As Seen on TV" stuff. But I saw it on the impulse rack at Target and figured... why not?
Lately I have been loving the top knot bun look. I never liked having my hair like this before because when I was a kid I was in highland dancing, sea cadets and soccer, so my hair was always in a bun.
But after getting some more surgery(3 months I will reveal this process) and now being a housewife: I find buns are just easier.

so for those who follow me also on my instagram, you saw this the other day. Sorry I am one day late.

These are the rollers I bought, I didn't get the dark brown(the one I should of gotten) but because I was running around and just kinda grabbed it, I got the blonde ones.

As you can see on the box they come in 2 sizes, I had ended up showing my sister this and because my nice is also in sea cadets, she needs a bun. She has medium length thick, straight hair. It does not stay in anything so I hoped this would help her have perfect hair for cadets.

When I first tried these, I could not for the life of me get the snap to work, also I put them in backwards so it looked messy.
Then I tried again when my arms weren't hurting so much, and I got it!

when you wrap your hair around it, it gets almost perfectly smooth.
its easier then pining your hair around a pony tail
it keeps its shape

the snap I find is hard to do(mostly reaching behind your head: you're blind. and then also if you have long finger nails like me)
when you pull the elastic out to tighten it and wrap it around the bun, it messes up your perfectly laid hair.
you still have to bobby pin your hair down so its not flopping around from side to side.

Halloween 2013... hey that rhymes

Hello everyone!
Sorry that I have been away for a bit but with Halloween I was super busy,then got more work and then had surgery(which will be a blog post in the up coming months(probably around xmas)).

Of course we all know that halloween is my favorite time of year(I wouldn't have cobwebs, bats and a zombie stitched heart tattooed on my chest if I didn't). and everyone goes to The Hunger v.8 every year put on by Definitely Superior Art Gallery in downtown port arthur. This year there was 4000+ people in attendance at 7 different venues. If you missed it, you missed out!

I'm sure most of you have seen my pictures from halloween this year if you follow my facebook fan page or my instagram , but I'll go into a bit more detail on here.

So my first client for the evening was my friend and director Curtis. He went as Edward Sicssorhands, so I had to place the scars in the right positions on his face, pale him out and add the classic Tim Burton dark eyes and lips. It was very easy because he already looks so much like Johnny Depp.

Next was my bouncer friend who wanted a sugar skull that also blended out into his beard and hairline. It liked the concept he gave me, but dollaramma halloween hair spray sucks. 4 cans and still I don't think it was enough, it would bead off and drip down, next time: walmart.

I had been watching Rob Zombie's "Lords of Salem" alot so that was a influence in my style.

Next was my friend Grimmace the Buttler's cousin Gonzo.

You might know Grimmace who is Webster Death's(now know as Webby D)'s butler and assitant on stage at Web's hip hop preformances.

For halloween though, he wanted Gonzo(who'm is also related to Captain Spaulding) to preform.

Lastly, Kyle and Me went as Celtic Warriors, which meant Woad makeup! Historically it was blue and black.

I didn't take a good picture of me at the beginning of the night, but the black face paint stayed on pretty good all night, should of mixed some black or blue eyeshaddow in there to keep it from creasing so badly.

Finally we had a Halloween costume contest at work, which also happened to be my last day so I wanted to go out like a champ!

Seeing how my students just LOVE my anatomy pants, I wanted to do a full muscular face, but then I had this skeleton dress so I decided to go half and half. I had just gotten a small book that was a quick step by step for face painting, to use when I do charity work so its easier for kids to pick out what they want, or for assistants to use as a guide. It's Wolf Brother's "Top Secret cheat book volume 2: Horror"
