Hi all,
Looking for drum synth suggestions.
Looking for electronic sounds, synth based, experimental preferred

Current ones I’m considering:

Tekno by BabyAudio
Battalion by Unfiltered Audio
Microtonic

Would love any suggestions that have flown under my radar

Is there a way to disable Interpolation for Multi-Samples with Velocity Layers?

umonox

Hey there,

i’m scratching my Head around that Topic right now. I want to get rid of any kind of Interpolation for the Multi’s i created. I know the Methods of adding an “r” or an “_R” at the End of the Filename and updating the .ELMULTI to point to those Filenames … but they dont work.

The Notes are shorter the higher i go up in the Octaves and are longer the lower i go down in the Octaves - even though they were all Auto-Sampled with the same Length. I’ve recorded each and every Note of the Synth in that example. And there’s also a blending happening in the Velocity Layers as well - which is really annoying. I have 16 Velocity Layers that turn the Filter of the Analog Synth down - and that one has a nice Filter Env applied. Sounds totally awesome when triggered with the Sequencer in Velocity Mode - but once recorded, these Layers are smeared together and all the nice Pluckiness - specifically in the lower Velocity Levels (where the Filter is almost closed) - that Pluckiness is gone. Thats not usable that way.

Is there a way to deactivate all that Interpolation Stuff on the Tonverk completely? Including the Blending of the Velocity Layers? So that it steps through the ones it has and keeps the Length of the Notes exactly as they were recorded?

Thx for your help Guys!
umo

[EDIT] I found an entry in the ELMULTI which says: Key-Zones.velocity-layers - and in the Lines below there is an entry called “Strategy = ‘Forward’”. Could this be the area where you can change how it behaves for the Velo Layers? And what should be in there instead of Forward? Does anybody know that?

Ambika multitimbral sessions. Emilie Gillet?!?!

K7Dawn

Hi, some patches i was working on, just for fun and learning. Feel free to skip around.

Ambika can be used as a standalone instrument, in pattern mode you can start the sequencer directly from the performance page by clicking the encoder. Every part has its own note sequence and 2 modulation sequence.

This is a tribute to the great Mutable Instruments designs, so forward looking and ahead of its time, and all open source. Forever grateful.

Anyone knows anything about what is Emilie Gillet working on? I guess if it was instrument design related we already knew. But anyway i was curious what is up with her.

Sound straight from the mix out. Visual is glitchy because is feedback heavy i guess.

There will be more, hopefully better.

Bye:smiling_face:

P.S. Ambika is a 6 voice hybrid poly synth design by Mutable Instruments, with digital oscillators and analog filters (6 svf cards on this one, the state variabile multimode). You can chose how many voices per parts, in these videos I always used 3 mono parts and one with 3 voice polyphony. It also has individual outputs for the 6 voice cards, but here i just used the (mono) mix out.

(There are also longer videos of the work in progress, they’re all in a playlist on the channel)

Peace!

I’m not sure if there is a thread dedicated to producers who make tunes respective of the thread’s title, but after getting referred to a few others, I didn’t see much of a representation of this style of music.

I guess to start, this is a palette I feel most comfortable with and as a hobbyist producer (still getting up to speed with my set up), I thought it’d be dope to share tips and tunes that are closely tied to these styles of house music.

For me, artists like Trinidad Deep, Ron Trent, Osunlade, Atjazz, DJ Manoo, CoFlo, Larry Heard, M.A.W., Oveous, Mark Francis, DJ Qu, Kyle Hall, Karizma, Blaze, Marcellus Pittman, Omar S, Theo Parish, Byron the Aquarius, Atjazz, Fred Everything, Chaos in the CBD…all sort of come to mind and fit the bill.

I’m in no way an authority on these sub/genres, but if these resonate with you all, and you don’t know of a thread where this style of music has a home, then perhaps this can be a place where we share these recordings and level up our approach to music making inspired by the aforementioned?

thejewk

I’ve been looking into getting a Digitone 2 in the near future, and one of the selling points for me is the note edit function where you can select a step and then input chords from the onboard keyboard. This would not only be massive for me when handling the onboard synth engines compared to the original, but potentially would make midi sequencing other poly gear much more comfortable compared to my DT1.

Does this work as well on midi tracks as it does with internal voices? Do you still retain the ability to apply micro-timing, velocity and differing lengths per note when using a midi track for external gear?

Many thanks

Live looping digitakt via ableton

bd333

Hello,

I’m wondering if this is possible. I’ve had a decent search but can’t quite seem to find the right info. I’m not too familiar with ableton/overbridge so figured I’d see if anyone can help.

Here’s what I’ve managed so far:

I have audio running from a synth into my digitakt “Input L” which I’d like to live loop.

The digitakt is connected to my laptop via usb. I have a track in ableton which is just playing the audio from “input L”. I have the Looper effect open on this track which I am controlling via midi from the digitakt. This is all working. I can send audio from synth>digi>ableton and make live loops.

Here’s what I’m trying to do:

I want to send this looped audio back into digitakt’s “Input R”.

That way I could play something on the synth through input L, loop it in ableton, fade out input L, fade in the loop on input R, and add another layer from the synth with input L, all whilst taking advantage of the digitakt internal fx.

Is it possible to send audio back from ableton to input R via usb and have it route through the internal fx?

I feel like this could be a great way to extend the digi functionality (adding an octatrack style feature). I’m close but can’t quite seem to make it work. Is this possible? Any tips? Or suggestions for similar live looping ideas? (Can’t afford octa rn)

Hopefully if this idea works others could take advantage of it too. Thanks for your help folks!

(Digitakt 1 running 1.52)

I’m trying to figure out, if the following will work:

I have a long sample sliced, into 16 slices and have a 16 step pattern. Step 1 has a trigger.
I have a LFO 1 mapped to the strt parameter. The waveform is coming from the LFO designer.

Is it possible to modulate the strt (sample start) with the lfo designer, so it changes every 1/16 note?

Curious about Octatrack durability for heavy touring. I recently saw that Chlaer (Techno producer) switched from performing live with two Octatracks to using two Maschine+ units and mentioned that the Octas are too fragile for heavy touring. It made me wonder how the Octatrack holds up long-term on the road.

For those of you who gig and travel with it, how has it held up on the road? Have you run into any issues, and if so, what do you do to protect it while touring?

Overbridge + Pioneer V10 - Connection Issues

Kethro

I am currently experiencing issues when trying to use my V10 as an audio interface alongside my DTII, DNII, and ST via Overbridge. Here is my signal path (Apologies for the rough diagram)

Hardware Connection
DTII > Overhub > MacBook Pro
DNII > Overhub > MacBook Pro
ST > Overhub > MacBook Pro
Pioneer V10 > Overhub > Macbook Pro

DAW: Ableton 12 Suite

When I open the overbridge VSTs in new tracks in Ableton, I will route them to the inputs of the V10. For example:

Software Path
DNII > EXT OUT 1/2 > V10 CH 1
DTII > EXT OUT 3/4 > V10 CH 2
ST > EXT OUT 5/6 > V10 CH3

What happens is two of the devices work flawlessly, but one remains silent and has no audio ran to the Overbridge VST. The weird part is when I restart Ableton, this is random. So any 2 of the devices will always work, but one random one will not function. When I check the Overbridge widget, it will state that the non-functioning device is “measuring” and simply won’t activate.

When I run overbridge with my normal interface “MOTU MK5” everything works flawlessly.

Does anyone have any tips or a helpful explanation on why this is happening?

Hi!
I’ve run into a weird problem with my Analog Rytm MK2. I have a few patterns (A1-A6) in a new project. They all use the same kit (analog + samples). Been messing around a bit with Overbridge. Suddenly (after creating a song) pattern A1 becomes very quiet. I’ve restarted the AR MK2 a few times now. Now I’m going straight out with audio (Main out) into my soundcard/computer. All the other patterns sound like they should but A1 is extremely quiet. If I raise the volume a bit I can still hear that the pattern is there and it’s clearly visible in the sequencer. I’ve reloaded the project, the pattern and the kit. I see nothing weird with velocities or anything… no locks. Seems like bug to me. Does anyone know of a work around for this or something I can try?

I’m just wondering if anyone else does this? I used to use the Digitakt 2 to sequence my DN1. 4 midi tracks (one for each DN track). Rather than P locking the Digitone sequencer (although you could do it with midi I suppose), I would mess with the arp page and parameters in real time whilst sequences played. Id kind of use the Digitone patterns as kits for each pattern on the Digitakt.
I’ve since gotten the DN2 and I sequence them separately. However, I now feel as though I’m getting some option paralysis and making my tracks well too sonically busy.
Tonight I’m going to try setting it up the way I used to with 4 x midi tracks, only this time I have the added bonus of track layering and more voices/FX to set mess with in real time along with more modulation wheel assignment.

Using Tonverk as an FX processor via mixer aux send/return — is it possible?

bannouze

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking about integrating Tonverk into my mixer setup in a slightly unconventional way, and I wanted to check if anyone has tried this before.

The idea is basically to use the Tonverk as an effects unit in a mixer aux loop:

Mixer Cue/Aux Send → Tonverk INPUT AB

Tonverk OUTPUT CD → Mixer Aux Return / EXT input

The goal is to have any channel on the mixer go through the Tonverk’s effects chain (reverb, delay, granular, degrader, whatever) and come back into the mix — essentially treating the Tonverk like a hardware effects unit sitting in a send/return loop.

I know the external inputs can be routed to a track or a bus, and from there you get access to insert FX, send FX, the whole chain. But I’m wondering if anyone has actually done this in practice and what the workflow looks like on the Tonverk side to set it up cleanly.

thx you !

Do you use the OT to arrange a track, live perform a track? Start to finish on the device itself?

What settings do you use? Master compressor?

How do you arrange/organize stuff? Or do you just mute/unmute manually and wiggle some knobs and a slider?

How do you even mix on this thing???

I’ve had the idea for a long time to write a program that would allow my beloved Electribe ER-1 to read and play a 4-voice fugue…mostly because that seemed like the dumbest possible thing I could do with a drum machine. I’m always inspired by the stuff people do with this piece of gear, so if anyone else has stuff they’ve done with Electribes I’d love to see.

Carbon Electra 2, a new synth from the makers of Scaler

I actually had no idea there was a Carbon Electra 1, which appears to have largely gone under the radar in the decade since it was released. It looks like it was pretty well received at the time, though.

Anyway, Scaler Music just released a video for its successor, Carbon Electra 2:

At first glance, it looks like a nice combination of some more exotic synthesis (it reminds me of Conductive Labs’ Terrain Synth) with a simple and uncluttered UI.

Also, just to address the elephant in the room… is this synth’s name supposed to be a pun on Carmen Electra?

I just started to use overbridge and I’ve encountered a problem on windows. It was working fine until I attempted to de-install the application (long story short, my dt needed an update) and now overbridge no longer connects to my devices. Im wondering if this is because I did not uninstall the application properly ? I did delete app + cache but I’ve seen on Mac devices that the package comes with a dedicated uninstall app which made me wonder why windows doesnt have the same. Has anyone else encountered this problem ? Im curious if reinstalling the app after not properly deinstalling it causes this bug where it can no longer connect to my devices.

Good 'evolving' generative sequencers? (soft or hard)

Hooger

What I would be looking for in a generative sequencer is the ability to not only make variations on patterns/sequences, but something that really evolves the input. So that I give the parameters it should start out with, but the sequencer takes it some place I wouldn’t have landed myself. Preferably with multiple tracks.

I have the Oxi One and like it very much, but I struggle to take it beyond variations of the same thing when using lfo’s and the mod options.

Love to hear your suggestions/best practices.

I’m a very new Digitone II owner. It’s my first Elektron of any sort, so I have a lot of learning to do. It’s been fun so far! It’s amazing to play with the Euclidean sequencer and arps to generate some nice accidental polyrhythms, but I want to achieve a simple thing. I pose this question to my fellow Elektronauts: how can I generate a true waltz beat? I mean, genuine ONE-two-three. Nothing complex. I’ve tried the 3/4 timing and shortening bars, but the beat still seems to much closer to just 4. Is my rhythm ear worse than I thought, or am I missing something?
