Note Taking App for Elektron Patterns & Tracks

Hi there, I am working on a small project, something I wanted to see if I needed for myself.
It is a note taking app, that let’s you attach notes about transitions (programmed risers or manual), hidden live performance macros to use in a pattern, info about tracks, what other other patterns they can best transition into, so that composing sets is a bit easier for me.
I always hoped to be able get something a bit more scalable than a piece of paper, that I see more people use on YouTube, especially since I need bus information to follow templates for my midi controllers.

Here is the scope of the app so far and some screenshots.
I would love to hear if anyone else has ever had the need for something similar and/or would have suggestions? Thanks!

A single-file, browser-based companion app (builds/midi-notes.html) for taking
per-pattern notes on a hardware sequencer (built around the Elektron Digitakt/
Syntakt 128-pattern PC/bank layout: banks A–H × patterns 1–16). No build step,
no server — open the HTML file in a Web MIDI–capable browser (Chrome/Edge) and go.

Scope

Not a DAW, sequencer, or MIDI editor. It never sends note/transport data
and does not alter the device’s patterns or sounds. It does send Program
Change purely to track state (see MIDI behavior below).
It is a MIDI listener + local notes/templates tool: it listens to what the
connected device reports and lets the user attach freeform notes/labels/
templates to each of the 128 pattern slots and their tracks.
All data is local browser storage (localStorage, key pattern-notes-v4),
scoped per “project” (a named set of 128 pages). No backend, no network I/O.
saves/*.json are exported/imported project snapshots (see Export/Import
below), not something the app reads automatically.

Core concepts

Project: a named collection of the 128 pattern pages, a track count
(≤16), a shared label library, a set of pattern templates, per-pattern mute
captures, and sidebar fold state. Multiple projects can exist per browser;
one is active at a time.
Page (pattern slot): identified by MIDI Program Change number 0–127,
mapped to bank/pattern as bank = floor(pc/16) (A–H), pattern = pc%16 + 1.
Each page has a title, freeform notes, and per-track notes/labels.
Label library: reusable named/colored tags assignable to tracks per page
(e.g. “Kick”, “Bass”) — not locked to a fixed track index.
Pattern templates: a saved label layout (built the same way as a pattern’s
track labels) that can be applied to any pattern on demand, so common track
layouts don’t have to be rebuilt by hand each time.
Live mute state: per-track mute/unmute read from MIDI CC110 (one MIDI
channel per track), captured per pattern and persisted with the project
(survives navigating away, reconnecting, and export/import). It only reflects
patterns the device has actually reported mutes for.
Device pattern tracking: the app separately tracks the hardware’s real
current pattern (from incoming Program Change), independent of whichever
page you have open while in Edit Mode.

Key UI areas (`midi-notes.html`)

Sidebar: project switcher (new/rename/delete), MIDI connect/disconnect,
a collapsible bank/pattern tree (banks A–H, each always listing all 16
patterns, folded by default, fold state persisted per project). The bank
containing the currently open page is highlighted orange; the bank/
pattern the hardware is actually on is highlighted blue (dashed until
confirmed by a real incoming Program Change) — the two are shown
independently so Edit Mode always shows both at once.
Topbar: current PC/bank badge, transport status (Start/Stop/Continue),
editable pattern title, Copy/Paste pattern buttons (Edit Mode only), Edit
Mode / Live Mode toggle.
Track grid: one tile per track showing assigned label, note indicator,
selection state, and live mute border (bold purple = unmuted, invisible =
muted, dim label/line color = unknown/no data yet for that pattern).
Track note panel: opens per selected track for its note + label picker.
Pattern notes editor: freeform textarea for the whole pattern.
MIDI log panel: toggleable live-decoded MIDI message log (Note
On/Off, CC incl. CC110 mute annotation, Program Change, transport,
aftertouch, pitch bend); Clock/Active Sensing filtered out as noise.
Settings modal (was “Manage Label Library”): sectioned into Project
(track count), Label Library (create/recolor/rename/delete labels), and
Pattern Templates (build, save, apply, and delete label layouts).

MIDI behavior

Program Change (0xC0): always updates the app’s tracked “device current
pattern” (used for the blue sidebar highlight), regardless of mode. In Live
Mode it also switches the app’s open page to match. In Edit Mode the open
page is left alone so it never yanks the editor away from what you’re
writing; only the tracking highlight moves.
On Connect, the app shows its last-known pattern immediately as an
unconfirmed guess (dashed highlight) and swaps it for the real value as soon
as a genuine Program Change arrives from the device.
CC110 (per-channel, one channel per track): pattern mute status,
0 = unmuted, nonzero = muted. Captured against whichever pattern the
device last reported itself on, not necessarily the page currently open.
Start/Continue/Stop (system real-time): drives the transport badge.
MIDI has no way to query a device’s current state on demand — pattern and
mute data are only ever known once the device has actually reported them at
least once during the session (or from a previous export/import).

Data / persistence

Export: downloads the entire active project (pages, labels, templates,
mute captures, fold state, track count) as pattern-notes-.json
(saves/ holds examples of this format).
Import: loads a project JSON as a new project, remapping label IDs
(including inside templates) to avoid collisions with existing labels.

Known limitations

No standard MIDI message lets the app query a device’s current pattern or
mute state on demand — only patterns/mutes the device has actually reported
since connecting (or from a prior export) are known.
Attempts to force a re-report by sending Program Change out were tested and
found unreliable on this hardware (no automatic mute dump on pattern load
via external MIDI); that approach was removed rather than kept half-working.
Reading pattern/kit names off the device isn’t supported — that requires
a proprietary, undocumented file-transfer protocol (as used by third-party
tools like elk-herd) rather than a simple MIDI message, and isn’t
implemented here.
Everything is scoped to a single browser’s local storage — no sync across
browsers/devices, and clearing site data deletes all projects.

Sync pattern change issues with AR/A4

Hello everyone!
I use the AR (master) and A4 (both MK2 versions) for live performances.
When using the AR, I can’t seem to ‘remotely control’ pattern changes on the A4. It works, but there’s a delay in sequential mode. I’d love to use direct jump mode, but from what I’ve (briefly) looked into, this mode only seems to be possible on an individual basis. Is there a solution? What methods do you use for live performances with this specific setup?

Midi delay from Digitone seq

Has anyone run into this specific “Overbridge clock in → Digitone’s
own sequencer → MIDI out to external gear” delay, and found a fix or
workaround?

Elektron Digitone connected via USB, using Overbridge in Ableton
Device is clockedvia Overbridge, usign the plugin inside ableton). Digitone’s audio, sent back via USB, stays perfectly in sync.
When I play the Digitone’s own sequencer and route its MIDI
output (DIN) to an external synth (Oberheim OB-6), the notes arrive at
the OB-6 roughly 50-70ms late.

Is this known latency or “issue” due to midi processing time or am I missing something?

Error messages on analog Rytm mkII

Hi everyone at Elektronauts. I’ve got something bugging me: I recently deleted some sounds from my Analog Rytm MKII, and—regretting it—I decided to reload them from the backup on my computer. Everything went fine up to that point, but I got an error message when I tried to reassign them to my pattern. I don’t want to say anything incorrect, as I can’t quite remember if the error happened during the transfer from the computer to the Analog Rytm MKII, or when I tried to assign the loaded sound to my track (i.e., moving it from the backup location to the active playback slot within the Analog Rytm MKII itself). I hope that makes sense, but I’m confident that someone here understands the issue and knows what to do. Thanks in advance. Oops just to clarify: the “toggle” option was disabled.

OS Upgrade: Tonverk OS 1.4.0

Tonverk continues to grow, and with 1.4.0 it now gets Overbridge multitrack streaming. This new OS also adds more features on top of that, including additional options in each track’s modulation setup, pattern transpose in semitones, FX order swap, reload parameter page, and a whole load more features, improvements, and fixes.

Overbridge multistreaming
With this initial release of Overbridge for Tonverk, you get access to the Overbridge streaming functionality. This allows you to stream each track separately to your computer and is primarily intended for flexible recording, mixing, and further production, rather than full DAW integration.

This is the first stage of Tonverk’s Overbridge journey - but we wanted to make it available while we continue working on the integration and improving latency.

Velocity & Key Tracking Modulation
Added to Tonverk’s modulation setup options are Velocity and Key Tracking. Both let you assign up to four destinations and use your performance to shape the sound in real time.

Velocity Mod changes parameters based on the velocity value you play. Use it to make sounds respond more dynamically, adding movement and expression with every note. Key Tracking changes parameters depending on where you play on the keyboard. High and low notes can each influence the sound differently, opening up expressive timbral shifts across the keyboard.

Pattern Transpose in semitones
Transpose every note in your pattern up or down in semitones with a simple shortcut. Quickly try new keys and harmonic ideas, all without altering the original note data.

FX Order Swap
Swap the order of FX1 and FX2 on Audio and Bus tracks with ease. Explore how different effect chains transform your sound without having to rebuild them.

Reload Parameter Page
Reload the current parameter page from its memorized state, giving you another way to explore, experiment, and instantly return at the click of a button. Tweak freely and undo changes on a single parameter page without affecting the rest of your sound.

MIDI triggers in Ableton?

Hey all,

I’m trying to play live with the Digitakt for the first time. My goal is to use the Digitakt to trigger clips in arrangment mode and also use the CC controls for MIDI mapping to control synth parameters, etc.

I’m familiar with the process for the latter, but I’m unsure how to do the former.

Is it possible to use the Digitakt to trigger MIDI clips? If so, what’s the workflow for doing so?

TV & Syntakt Midi -> CV (modular)

Hi Guys,
I am adding a modular rack to my Tonverk and Syntakt. I want to send MIDI to my modular with the option to direct it to 2 different voices so I can have bass and lead sequence. I would also like to send maybe an LFO for a particular step too (p-lock).

I reviewed many forums including this one and have a shortlist:

FH-2 is the best on paper but the most expensive and super complicated
Mutant Brain seems like the best option price, value, options
Alm mmMINI similar in price and options to Mutant
A-190-4 doesn’t offer full control as I want

Which one would you go with? Any gear I am missing

Recording Tonverk in sync with Ableton and without latency?

Hello everyone,
I’m trying to record my Tonverk over USB and/or via line level on my Audient ID24 sound card in Ableton on MacOS (Mac M2).
However, I am unfortunately experiencing high latency. Even though I adjusted the latency compensation in Ableton, I can’t get a latency that is always the same depending on the number of tracks in my project (about ten at most and without VST plugins…)…
I feel like the latency is at the synchro MIDI level.
So I wonder if there’s a bug somewhere or if it’s a bad setting, because I have a good sound card and a sufficiently powerful computer.
Has anyone ever had this type of issue?
What is your workflow or experience with recording audio from the Tonverk on your computer?

In Ableton Live : difference of volume in a track with overbridge vs group of individual track

So in an Ableton project :

I got a Midi track with Overbridge (going to my master) and a group of individual tracks coming from the same Overbridge (and going to my master too) and there is a difference of 13 dB between the two.

Is that normal ? I can’t find anything in the FX Routing etc. Maybe I’m missing something.

Syntakt Overbridge volume plummets to -50dB after opening Logic Pro VST/AU

Hey everyone,

I’m running into a frustrating issue with my Syntakt and Overbridge (using a Mac with a UA Apollo Arrow interface). Everything works flawlessly when using a brand-new project in the Overbridge Standalone app. However, the exact moment I open the Syntakt plugin inside my DAW (Logic Pro), the volume plummets to an almost inaudible level (around -50dB).

Once this happens, the project stays completely quiet even if I close the DAW and go back to the Standalone app. The individual split tracks still stream properly through Overbridge, but the volume is just incredibly low across everything.

My Setup:

Elektron Syntakt
Universal Audio Apollo Arrow (UA Console)
Logic Pro (AU/VST Plugin)
Overbridge (Latest Standalone & Engine)

What I have already tried to fix it:

Hardware Volume Boosts: Adjusted USB to Main [dB] and toggled Int to Main on the Syntakt, but because it’s in Overbridge mode, these settings are ignored.
Overbridge App Levels: Main volume slider in the Overbridge Standalone app is confirmed at 0dB.
Project Isolation: Confirmed that opening a brand-new project resets the volume to normal in Standalone, meaning the issue is being forcefully written into the specific project file by the DAW sync.
Overbridge Control Panel: Opened the control panel to investigate, but the “Capture/Stream” track checkboxes/grid are completely missing from the window.
Background Engine: Completely restarted the Overbridge background engine process on my Mac, but it did not fix the volume drop.

It seems like Logic is sending a hidden MIDI CC message or forcing a Total Recall sync that completely wipes out my internal Syntakt track volumes upon launch.

Next Steps I’m considering:

Disabling the “Volume” and “Pan” reset checkboxes under Logic Pro → Settings → MIDI → Reset Messages to see if that blocks the automated CC data.
Changing the Total Recall sync direction to “Device to Plugin”.

Has anyone seen the Overbridge Control Panel lose its track configuration boxes like this, and what is the best way to stop Logic from permanently crushing my project volume? Any advice would be heavily appreciated!

Gigging - Stereo mix for FOH or separat output tracks?

Short version: When you perform live, do you provide a stereo mix for the FOH, or do you mix your tracks during the performance?

Explanation: I have a gig coming up at a small gallery (maybe 50 people). I want to perform with Live12 and Push3 and maybe my Syntakt. Now I’m wondering whether I should feed my finished, mixed Ableton Live set in stereo into the mixing console and the PA, or whether I should feed my 8 tracks into the mixing console via my USB interface with separate outputs and adjust it to suit the venue? I am a guitar player, starting into electronic music, so this is a bit new to me.

Best way to trim a loop?

So I wanted to have fun with random generated loops from garage band and I realised that GB didnt export the loop at the lenght I wanted : rather than 2 bars it recorded the whole length of the last drum and so I got a loop that’s longer than I wanted.

I thought “muh I will get to fix that in the digitakt 2” but got a bit… lost. How would you do to get fast result ? I found out that I couldnt zoom in most machines and to redo the slices one by one is a PITA (especially if there is a bit of swing).

Any tip ?

Anyone up for a long-term electronic music collaboration? (Demos attached)

Hey everyone,

I’ve been producing electronic music for a few years now, but unfortunately only as a hobby alongside my day job. And, like many people here probably know, I have way more ideas and unfinished projects than I have finished tracks.

I’m at a point where I’d really like to change that.

I’m looking for someone who would be interested in taking one (or potentially all three) of my current demos and turning them into proper, finished tracks together.

Musically, I’m somewhere around disco / techno / breakbeats, with a lot of inspiration from artists like Justice, The Chemical Brothers, Digitalism and the whole Ed Banger universe. That’s probably a better description of what I’m going for than trying to put a strict genre label on it.

I currently have three demos where I feel the core ideas are there, but the arrangements aren’t finished yet. What I’m mainly looking for help with is:

Arrangement and song structure
Developing ideas further
Sound selection / sound design
General production decisions
And, most importantly, another pair of ears and another creative mind

I’m not looking for a ghost producer. I’d much rather this became a genuine co-production relationship where we both contribute creatively. I have ideas and material to bring to the table, but I’d love to work with someone who can challenge those ideas, bring their own ideas in and help turn them into something better.

Since I’m not based in a major city, I’m imagining this as a remote collaboration: exchanging Ableton projects/stems, feedback rounds, video calls, screen sharing, etc. I’m happy to invest at least an hour a day into it if there’s someone on the other side who is equally motivated. The idea is to actually work on the music consistently rather than occasionally sending each other a message.

I’d suggest starting with one single and seeing how we work together. If we click, I’d absolutely love to finish the other two and potentially turn them into an EP.

The end goal is to release the music properly on the usual platforms, potentially under a completely new artist project if that feels right for both of us.

One important thing to me: I want the finished tracks to sound professional and release-ready. I’m not interested in stopping at “cool loop with some bleeps and bloops”. At the same time, I’m not doing this because I expect to make money from music. Learning, making something I’m genuinely proud of and hopefully finding a long-term creative partner are much more important to me.

I’m also of course happy to cover the costs of professional mixing and mastering once we reach that stage.

And regarding co-production: I’m absolutely willing to pay for professional co-production if that’s how the collaboration develops. But honestly, I’d much rather find someone where we enjoy working together enough that this turns into a long-term collaboration and hopefully many more tracks together.

I’ve attached a few demo clips so you can get an idea of what I’m working on. They’re very much demos, so please don’t judge the production too harshly.

Any good Handheld for Fors FMS and FLAC music?

Searching for a handheld to use as a DAW and DAP

Hi everyone! This might be a slightly unusual question here.

I’m looking for a handheld console, something like the TrimUI Brick, Miyoo Mini, or a clamshell Game Boy, that I could also use as a music player.

I’m pretty simple when it comes to gaming — mostly old JRPGs and Metroidvanias.

But there’s one important detail: I’m a musician, and I’d also like to use the handheld for tracker software designed for the GBA, especially things like FORS FMS, as well as for listening to music in FLAC.

Ideally, I’d therefore like something that can run Rockbox. I know it’s available on NextUI.

I’d also prefer not to use an additional dongle, so a good-quality 3.5mm headphone jack and decent output power are especially important to me.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or suggestions!

Cycles + Samples to IPad/IPhone

Hey guys

Is it possible to sync the audio and MIDI from Model:Cycles and Samples using a powered USB hub with an iPhone or iPad?

As I understand it, I need to download some kind of DAW, for example GarageBand? I’m going on vacation and want to bring these funky boxes with me to jam but I don’t want to bring a mixer.

For audio out, I also need some kind of adapter, perhaps USB to 3.5 mm jack, since I’ll be using headphones.

Engineers: Built In Battery Charging?

I’m sure there are reasons for this, I just don’t know what they are — hoping more technically minded folks know:

10-15 years ago I remember having cameras that would charge rechargeable AA batteries in-body, nothing proprietary necessary, once you put rechargeable batteries in, the standard plug for the camera would now charge the batteries you’ve got in there.

So here’s my question: why do I not see this feature anywhere nowadays? In our case, with synths, that still choose a battery (like 6 AAs for Yamaha Reface or Roland SP404) over built in rechargeable cells — why do these devices not come built with this functionality?

Is it cost? Noise? Heat? Risk? I truly don’t know. Do you?

OB-6 Editor: free browser-based patch editor & librarian for the Sequential OB-6

Hi guys, I’ve been listening to a lot of stuff from the SUEd label over the last few days, especially SW and his collaborations with SVN and Dynamo Dreesen.

Maybe I’m a little late to the party with this kind of music, but I wanted to ask for some recommendations in a similar vein. It’s not really minimal, not quite house, and not exactly dub either — some kind of lo-fi techno, I guess.

Very atmospheric, warm and groovy, but not dark. And at the same time, no less serious because of that.

I’ve probably just rambled a load of nonsense here, but hopefully you guys know what I mean

Self Oscillation?

I’m trying to put a live set together for a show, using my Syntakt and I want to reproduce a track I made a few years ago. The main synth part was recorded on my Sub Phatty and I got the filter self-oscillating - at least I think that is what it’s doing. I can’t get anything nearly so crazy on my Syntakt. Any thoughts how I could achieve anything close? this is the track and, the bit I’m talking about comes in at about 35 seconds: Railway Tracks | The Hardy Tree

I dig getting my hands dirty and I know a few others do as well. Our friend @Bwax had a great idea to start a thread about it! So I did it before he could!

I’ll start! Currently remodeling my deck and replaced the decking with Trex. Everything went wrong and I’m all good with that!

Lots of small stuff left to do but I’ll knock them out this week. Then the stairs. Have to add a stringer and redo all the posts. Can’t wait!

Digitakt 2 - OVERBRIDGE/LIVE : Can't see track 16 and the input track

Just wondering about that, is the input only for recording and not to play with external instruments live ?

Digitone 2 Grid Recording settings

I have a novation keyboard midi connected to a Digitone 2 via DIN midi out to in. In Grid Recording mode, when I want to set a note to a trig, I press and hold the trig, then press the relevant note on the novation keyboard.

It plays the note, but records the note along with the default note for the track.

If I press the note edit key, I can see both the default note and the one I pressed.

What I want it to do is just record the note I pressed on the keyboard, on its own, without the default note.

Is there a setting I’ve missed to make this the default way of recording in grid mode?

Any help would be appreciated!

Researching this cult you guys got going on here to see if I could fit in.

Watching a lot of YouTube & I’m not seeing a lot of midi keyboard controllers. Somehow people are using these clacky keys & endless encoders for note entry.

Is this a special breed, or do you find keys totally unnecessary?
