The first loop doesn't stop

Hello. Complete beginner with the Digitakt 2 here. Please help.
On pattern A01, Track 1, I have a drum rhythm loaded and set to loop. On pattern B02, Track 1, I have another drum loop loaded that fades out using an LFO. The problem is that when changing to pattern B02, the loop from Pattern A01 doesn’t stop to let the second loop take over. What should I do?
By the way, I would also appreciate a guide on how to properly set up the settings so that a drum loop repeats infinitely. Thanks in advance for the help!

This isn’t Elektron-related, but many of you know that I’ve been an aspiring indie game developer at points in my life. Now I’m taking some earnest strides in that direction.

The game is called Untitled KVN Game and it has a little bit of that old-school Elektron vibe in its DNA, I’d say.

What kind of stand is this?

I’ve been searching for a stand like this and saw it in a Waldorf video…anyone know the make / model?

I’m looking for a desktop stand that has an upper shelf but allows a keyboard to be tucked under it, like a C, so the upper hardware can hang out over the keyboard…if you know of a stand like this that’s not the one in the pic, I’d appreciate that info too

SidStation Editor for Ableton Live

I just made something I wanted for myself: a Max for Live editor for the SidStation. I think I managed to get every parameter automatable in Live, including the waveform tables.

There is also a small patch for OS 1.10 R33 that lets the SidStation answer patch dump requests and store patches over MIDI, so the editor can pull the current patch from the synth.

Not sure if anyone is still interested in the SidStation, but if so, feel free to try it and comment.

Hi all,

I’ve been building a small instrument for myself and I’d love some early feedback from people who make music.

The idea is the opposite of most samplers: no complicated workflow. You get one patch outside the DAW that you just play, to get ideas going. I mainly use it for techno and hypnotic, repetitive stuff: load a short sound, set a groove, and let it evolve while you move things around.

What’s in it today (v2.0.1):

X-Y pad: left to right picks the note in your key and scale, bottom to top picks the arp speed. Hold keeps it going.
Arpeggiator: scales, chords, patterns, swing and gate.
64-step sequencer with parameter locks: any effect knob, or an effect’s on/off, can change per step.
Ten effects in any order (just drag them): filter, two EQs, shifter, phaser-flanger, grain delay, reverb, auto pan, Corpus-style resonators and filter delay. A saturator always sits at the end.
Six LFOs and two envelopes that can move any knob, or the pad itself.
Recording: every take is saved with its moves. Export 24-bit WAV, or re-render a take later with a different sample, key or scale, and it plays back exactly the same performance.

It’s free, signed and notarized by Apple, runs on macOS 13 or later, and updates itself.

Coming very soon:

Undo and Redo: already built, in the next update.
Presets: factory sounds and saving your own.
MIDI: play notes and map knobs from a hardware controller.
A first launch that makes sound right away, so you’re not staring at an empty patch.

What I’d love to hear:

Does it get you to an idea quickly, or is something in the way?
What sounds or genres do you push it toward?
What’s the one thing missing that would make you open it again tomorrow?
Bugs, crashes, anything confusing.

Hi.

In case anyone’s interested in a little sound design challenge. Does anyone have any ideas on how to recreate this sound on the Digitone?

(especially the mix of low and high pitch at 1min)

I love recreating sounds in general, but this one seems quite challenging.
Even from a scientific standpoint, it’s basically friction driven, but don`t know how to recreate that.

Any ideas?

Probably also a sound neighbours would love to hear in a loop

Worst logos in music tech?

Music tech and synths are littered with vile typography and logos. I have literally paid good money in the past just to have a Sequential logo on my Rev 2 rather than the horrible DSI logo. Even though the Sequential logo is admittedly, also fairly shit, it is at least iconic. Yet, I somehow allowed the Prophet X over the threshold, despite its incongruous mish mash of typefaces.

I have a visceral reaction whenever I see Arturia’s old logo:

I can’t stand the sight of it.

Similarly, the Buchla Ziggy logo , turns my stomach.

What you got? What hideous logo has prevented you from allowing a piece of gear into your home based purely on superficial aesthetic considerations?

What goes well with a syntakt and a M:C? FX question

hey I’ve been playing with a Syntakt and a M:C for a while and I was wondering, would an external fx add something to the sound?
Like… a compressor or a distortion pedal or whatever…?
Any suggestions? Any ideas?
Also, should I just add the fx to one of the two boxes or just to the final output sounds?
I have no clue on this as I have never done anything like that before…

Any reliable USB-C hub for Syntakt + SP-404MKII on Mac?

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for a reliable USB hub with multiple USB-C ports to connect my Syntakt and Roland SP-404MKII to an M2 Pro MacBook Pro.

I’ve previously had issues with my Syntakt not showing up as an audio device when connected through a hub.

Has anyone successfully used both devices through the same hub, especially with Overbridge and USB audio running simultaneously?

I’d prefer a powered hub with USB-C ports, but I’m open to other suggestions.

Fsdsp56k: write, audition and render your own MDS kernels (F#, free software)

I’ve been working on fsdsp56k, F# tooling for the DSP56300 that runs the Machinedrum MDS on X.20 / MDX. It allows you to audition and render your kernels on an emulated DSP before you send them to the machine.

Website and playground: smoothdeveloper.github.io lets you open an .mds or a SysEx bank and play it in the browser.
Source: github.com/smoothdeveloper is open source under AGPL-3.0.
Command line: build, run, audition, render, and stress-test the cycle budget per block.

Huge thanks to @v-yadli & @JustinValer for MDX and MDS, which made all of this possible, and to the kernel authors whose work it builds on.

It’s still a prototype, so feedback and kernels to try are very welcome.

Minimal / Coldwave setup?

Hi! What portable/compact hardware would you suggest for minimal/coldwave music? I was thinking about a three-piece setup: a drum machine, a bass synth and maybe a polysynth. I’m a keyboard player, so I’d prefer gear with keys, since I’m not great at sequencing keyless gear, haha. I might be ok with buttons for the bass one tho. Any ideas?

Favorite Shitty Reverbs

Mine is the reverb on the Dreadbox Nymphes. It is such a weird choice for a synth that lush. It sounds so ringy, metallic. Unusable on a great many patches. But I’ve also made some really thick industrial sounds with that reverb so I have a fondness for it. Anyone else have any favorite shit reverbs?

Strange behavior from AUDIO NOTE IN and AUDIO NOTE OUT settings

This is on an MKII running 1.40c and it has never had any custom firmwares on it.

I’m working on getting my Cirklon triggering audio tracks on my OT and found some confusing interactions between different AUDIO NOTE IN and AUDIO NOTE OUT settings.

Audio tracks are set for MIDI channels 1-8
Autochannel is on 16
No MIDI tracks have channels assigned

I want the Cirklon to see and track knob changes made on the OT and be able to receive note data sequenced on the OT to record it into Cirklon patterns (for Cirklon sequence manipulation fun) while also generating fresh note/control data from the Cirklon. Doing this with a traditional synth would be as easy as setting its Local Control function to Off.

While the OT doesn’t have a specific Local Control function to disable, the manual does call out that functionality for both AUDIO CC OUT:

• EXT makes the knobs send out MIDI CCs but stops them from affecting internal parameters. This option essentially makes the knobs work in a local off mode.

and AUDIO NOTE OUT:

• EXT will make [TRIG] key presses send out MIDI notes. No internal machines or tracks will be trigged. This option essentially makes the [TRIG] keys function in a local off mode fashion.

So I set both of those to EXT and then checked AUDIO CC IN for “on” and set AUDIO NOTE IN to MAP/TRACK with each track’s individual trig mode set to chromatic and the global pattern trig mode on chromatic as well.

I would expect at this point that note trigs on audio tracks will not actually trigger them but that is not the case, when I start its built-in sequencer existing note trigs still play their loaded track samples. Turning track control knobs still affects their parameters locally as well.

What’s more, sending notes (in the proper chromatic range) via an external sequence to a track does not trigger it. With some experimentation I found that:

External sequencing of audio tracks does not work with AUDIO NOTE OUT set to EXT and AUDIO NOTE IN set to MAP/TRACK.
External sequencing of audio tracks does work with AUDIO NOTE OUT set to EXT and AUDIO NOTE IN set to FOLLOW TM.
If AUDIO NOTE OUT is set to either of INT or INT+EXT then external sequencing with AUDIO NOTE IN set to MAP/TRACK does work.

Does anyone know what’s up with that and/or why the EXT settings for the AUDIO CC/NOTE OUT parameters are not stopping local control like the manual says they should?

Trying to make some tekno/tribe but only sounds good on my headphones!

Hi all!
I suppose this is a variation of something that’s been discussed many times (e.g. here) but I was wondering if anybody was kind enough to give some specific feedback?

So the issue is that I made a pattern on the ST; it sounds good on the monitor headphones I used to write it, but when I listen to it on the laptop speakers it sounds quite bad (very “muffled”, can’t really distinguish which bass note is playing etc.).

But what bothers me is that, although I’m a beginner with the ST, I am actually experienced with DAWs etc. and have been releasing music for years. And when I listen to that music on laptop speakers it actually sounds good (before mastering, just the Ableton export!).

So I’m wondering what I’m doing wrong.
One issue might be that I’m trying a different genre (I release trance, while this is ~tekno sort of thing).
Otherwise I’m not sure. I tried balancing the volumes, pan, using the ST base-width filter on each track to clean it up etc… I also looked at it with a spectrum analyzer and noticed there was a big gap around ~2k so I filled that a bit etc… But still sounds “weak”.

I tried to offer an all in one type of project it is work in progress… I’m looking for anyone interested in being a tester to get this to a finished state. VST3 support just added for up to 4 audio effects. Matrix style mixer of send effects to NAM or IR colour.

Controll all function on the Tonverk?

Is there any Controll all function available with the Tonverk? With the Digitakt I was used to controlling all the parameters of a pattern at once as a performance trick. But it doesn’t seem to work, neither with perform mode on/off?

Sorry if there’s already a thread about this somewhere, but I couldn’t find any. Nor could I find it in the manual.

Outbox 8 Strange audio out issue

hello,
the outbox 8 works flawlessly with my digitakt 2 …
i use it separate my kick, bass and other elements into seperate tracks into my mixer.
Now the strange issue i face is when i send midi clock from my -
'missing link junior ’ … just MIDI thru a standard MIDI cable … the outbox 8 stops sending audio out thru its outputs… for a moment i thought the outbox 8 bricked!
the regular outputs from the digitakt 2 works as usual though.

i disconnected the 'missing link junior ’ midi connection and then restarted the outbox it works fine now.

ive used the missing link earlier to send clock to various devices, no issues at all.
the digitakt 2 receives clock and works fine , audio outs thru the unit works fine.
only when i receive clock from the missing link the outbox 8 stops sending out audio…
im lost

Live model cycles performance

Last week I performed solo for the first time. I used my model cycles, Roland p6 for song transitions and a small mixer. Played with some noise/power electronics musicians at a local record shop and it was an interesting lineup for sure. Go ahead and roast my performance hoping to do this again in the future.

Octatrack and TR-8S users out there, how do you combine these two machines. I have been playing this combo for a few years and I love it. Recently I felt like exploring new ways to route audio through this system and there are so many possibilities. How do you use them together?
