Hi, I’m getting an intermittent crackle from my left speaker. It’s not loud or sounding like it’s doing damage but I can’t ignore it either. I’m 99.99% certain it started this weekend after I had brought Ableton into my standard set up to accommodate the individual outs from the A4. I now have everything monitored through it to dodge latency issues, all going into it via my Roland Octacapture interface.

Anyone have an insight into what’s might be causing it please?

Thanks

I must have hit some weirdo key combination and am experiencing something I can’t undo. It persisted through a power down and all through the day. The problem disappeared/resolved overnight, so I am trying to figure out what it was.

Long story short: When I press FUNC+TRK2 to mute it, TRK2-TRK5 will also mute. Any combination of this will mute the rest of the tracks. Did I unlock some weird mute mode?

These tracks are not layered, so it’s not set up as “TRK 2 will trigger 4”.

I have TRK 1 (internal SYN) set to midi ch 9.
I have TRK 2-4 (internal SYN) set to midi ch1.
TRK 5 (ext midi) set to midi 13.

It’s almost like PREP MUTES were stuck on somehow.

Is this a mode that I was unaware of? A bug?

Transforming Digitone II with my "Vintage Grit" Ableton Rack (Free Download)

chans

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using the Digitone II as a primary sound source lately, and while its FM engine is incredible, I sometimes crave that “expensive analog grit” and hardware saturation.

To achieve this, I built a custom “Vintage Grit” Rack inside Ableton (100% native effects). In the video below, you can hear how this rack adds immediate character, weight, and texture to the Digitone II’s output.

I’m releasing this rack for free (or pay-what-you-want) to celebrate the launch of my new sound design project, Frame014.

Sound Demo (Digitone II + Custom Rack): https://youtu.be/y4lWvEaUIMM?si=uKQ2q0sBRxAeydgE

Download the “Vintage Grit” Rack ($0+) here: https://frame014.gumroad.com/l/texture-grit-v1

I designed this to be a “set and forget” tool for any synth, but it works especially well with the Digitone II. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Cheers from Seoul,

Posted yesterday as well.

Brand new Digitone 2.
In FM Tone, Algorithm 3 changing the B Volume doesn’t change the sound no matter what other parameters are changing as seen in the video linked on the reddit post.

https://www.reddit.com/user/UnwantedSideEffect/comments/1sd73ii/digitone_2_bug_or_faulty_unit/

Tried new track, new project, factory reset, firmware update nothing changes.

Can anyone verify if this is normal behavior on their machine or I got a faulty unit?

Recording shows the issue from Overbridge but the exact same happens on the unit it’s self.

I’m a n00b with this genre of music however, I feel like the Tonverk is made for this and would like to explore it further. Hence, creating this thread to share ideas and tips/tricks. This is what I can think of so far,

Looping samples and modulate the start/stop times

The obvious step retrig parameter

Degrader Effect - use Drop and or Freeze

Chrono Pitch Effect - turn the Window parameter down and Feedback parameter up

Comb Filter

Plock effect parameters on the Bus Tracks, assign random probability on the step and use a different pattern length compared to the rest of the tracks

I play guitar and I have a very simple setup. Guitar into amp with some spring reverb in the amp. I like clean tones. I’ve had loopers in the past, but I guess I’m no good with them. I get very bored with repetitive loops which I always end up with.
Reading about Mood’s always listening micro looper has me intrigued. Purely for playing at home. I love to just improvise with my guitar.
I’m wondering if it is a good companion for solo guitar instrumentalists? I have done something with loop pedals in the past where I wrote a quick sequence with a sample plus ambient textures (noise, birds etc) then plug my guitar in and play over the loop.
I think the unpredictability of the mood may be just what I’m looking for

A situation has developed on my AR2 where some of the sample folders are duplicated but I can’t delete the duplicate folders. Some of the folders have different samples in when viewed on the RYTM but these are not visible when I open up Transfer so I can’t see any way to save my samples if and when I decide to start deleting projects as memory starts filling up. Another annoying thing is that one of the folders is empty on the Rytm but it won’t let me delete it because it thinks there are folders inside. If I forget and go into this folder by accident there is no way to exit so I have to turn off the machine to get out, it’s a real mess. Does anybody have any ideas how to tackle this ?

Hello everyone,

I am running into an issue using Midi. I designed an LFO wave to affect the notes of a midi track in one pattern. I am making a track that has 4 patterns and I need the same designed LFO on all of them. However, when I try to copy my designed LFO wave, it does not paste into the other pattern, so I can’t have the same synth riff throughout the track.

Any idea on how to copy and paste a designed LFO?

Appreciate you

When I’m jamming on the Syntakt Elektron, but not necessarily want to save the changes, I turn of the Syntakt. But after I turn it on again, the settings from before the power cut are still there. When I manually reload the project, then it is restored to it’s actual “saved” state. However, when I don’t do this for a few times, it will overwrite the actual save with the “unsaved” version. I then end up with a version that I didn’t want and didn’t save. Is there a way to retrieve the original?

This seems like a bug since I did not explicitly wanted to save my progress. And as soon as I restart, I have to manually load the project.

Hi,

I’m looking for a “good” portable player for music for my children. Just like an old iPod.
Nothing fancy, but something that works properly.
I’ve already bought two cheap ones like this, but the files are all over the place, in the wrong order, etc… I’ve had the same issue with two different models.

I just want to be able to drop folders, and have them displayed properly, with their files in the alphabetical order…and simply retrieve what I put into it without missing files or weird location displacement.

I noticed a trend on my local marketplace. I see for example lots of ableton live 12 suite for 25 euro. Lifetime license it says. These advertisements are popping up more and more.

I’m wondering why this in this day is even possible or allowed? Knowing these licenses are cracked keygens. Why is there no company checking on these things? Is this the future? We can just sell cracked stuff and make money of it? Where is the moral? Is this the fight against capitalism? What is it? And why are we all allowing it?

Note: No political debates please. Just why this is morally allowed.

DT2 LST conditions with infinity

psk

Hello, all. This is my first post so please bear with me and apologies if I missed a thread about this. Longtime Digitakt and Digitakt II user but I’m stumped on this scenario. I’m using most recent update of Digitakt II.

Is it possible to utilize the LST condition on a track while your current pattern is set to infinity (which I use for the sake of polymeter)?

I typically write with different time signatures per track so I set certain time signatures to infinity but would like to be able to mute a track and have some extra steps play via the LST condition. I’m unable to cue patterns to switch since they are set to infinity therefore the LST condition doesn’t work. Is the only workaround using fill conditions? I understand how the LST condition works but without being able to cue up a new pattern, I’m wondering if anyone has some advice.

Example: track 1 is a 4x4 kick and once muted (rather than cued up to a next pattern), could it produce an extra kick on the last step of the sequence somehow without having to use fills?

I know muting versus pattern changing doesn’t work for the LST condition but does anyone have workflow that is similar? Perhaps the fill condition after all…

Thanks in advance!

I’ve been following the Digitone 2 only tracks thread with great enjoyment, and am wondering if anyone knows of Bandcamp albums (or tracks) made mostly or entirely with the Digitone 2. (I’m not a streamer, so Spotify is out.)

If you’re recommending your own album, even better! Give me a chance to buy your music.

Transitioning to a solo live set (Digitakt II): Hybrid setup with Bitwig vs. going fully DAWless? Need advice!

greenfan

Background:

I’ve been a Logic Pro user for about 20 years, mostly for recording and simple songwriting. I’m primarily a guitarist and singer-songwriter who has mostly played in traditional bands.

However, due to constant lineup changes and band instability, I’ve been looking into Elektron gear, as well as DAWs like Ableton and Bitwig, hoping to pivot my musical direction. I’m currently heavily inspired by artists like Massive Attack, Maya Ongaku, infinite bisous, James Blake, and Puma Blue. My ultimate goal now is to build a setup for solo live performances.

I recently finally pulled the trigger on a Digitakt II, but I have a few gear and routing dilemmas I can’t quite figure out.

1) Hybrid Setup (Elektron Overbridge + Bitwig + Audio Interface):

If I want to build my live rig by adding a Digitone II alongside my Digitakt II, and combine them with live vocals (looking for James Blake-style pitch-shifting/octaves and delays) and guitar looping as my foundation.

Would it be stable to run Overbridge into my Mac (M2 Air, 24GB RAM)—which I assume gives me around 32 tracks—and plug my mic and guitar into an audio interface, applying all FX within Bitwig?

• Is this setup stable enough for live gigs with low latency?

• Can I multitrack record the performance simultaneously?

• Regarding the audio interface: is “more outputs = better” for live shows? I’m currently looking at the RME Fireface UCX II or the MOTU UltraLite-mk5. Will having more outputs make it significantly easier for the FOH engineer to mix if I send them separated stems?

2) Pure DAWless Route (Hardware Loopers & Vocal FX):

Would a fully DAWless setup be inherently more stable? If I go this route, do you have any recommendations for hardware loopers and vocal FX?

• Are loopers like the Aeros Loop Studio, BOSS RC-505mkII, or RC-600 good enough for this kind of workflow?

• For vocal FX, does anyone have live experience with the Roland VT-4 or BOSS VE-500?

3) Hardware Tape Echo via Aux Sends:

If I want to occasionally ride the feedback or tweak the wet/dry mix of a tape echo on my vocals or drums during a performance, would it be more practical to get a physical tape echo pedal and route it through a hardware mixer using aux sends/returns (bus)?

4) Elektron Ecosystem Synergies:

Since I currently only own the Digitakt II, would a different Elektron box pair better with it instead of the Digitone II for my specific singer-songwriter/electronic goals?

Final Thoughts:

Live stability and providing a clean, manageable signal for the FOH engineer are my absolute top priorities. I’m quite new to hardware samplers, FM synthesis, and step sequencers, so apologies if these are beginner questions.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

One of my favorite things about the DFAM is how plucky you can get bass notes on it. But it’s obviously not a workhorse for this since there’s no quantization (and it’s essentially a percussion machine).

Are there any synths out there that can do a plucky bass like the DFAM?

Also, is pluckiness a function of fast envelopes? I’ve had other famously deep sounding bass synths (SE-3X, Minotaur, Bass Station) but none seemed to achieve this sound i’m looking for. I’m sure some of this is user error, but the DFAM is so good at it.
Thanks.

Saturday 30 May 2026 is Drone Day - the annual worldwide celebration of drone music, sustained sounds, and the beauty of the unmoving tone. This mission exists to mark it appropriately.

Theme: To awaken tiny vibrations in your skin and between all your bones (c) International Drone Day

The Mission

Produce a drone recording of minimum 5 minutes duration. Longer is very much encouraged — let it breathe, let it build, let it sit there and hum in your chest.

Deadline Your submission must be posted in this thread before 30 May 2026

What Counts as “Drone”?

For the purposes of this mission, drone music is defined broadly in line with its Wikipedia description:

A recording consisting of sustained sounds, notes, or tone clusters that remain constant throughout a piece, featuring very little harmonic variation. It should emphasise timbre, overtones, and texture rather than melody or rhythm.

Typically, this produces something hypnotic or meditative - but being honest, what comes out of this exercise could just as easily range from the most blissfully relaxed ambient sounds to incredibly loud and abrasive terrorscapes. Both ends of that spectrum (and everything in between) are welcome.

The two guiding principles:

Awaken tiny vibrations in our skin and between all our bones

Avoid the dreary tyranny of the melodic

Constraints

Minimum duration: 5 minutes. No maximum. Go long.

No restrictions on instruments. Electronic, digital, analogue, sample-based, acoustic, a bowed cymbal through seventeen effects pedals, a sitar orchestra in a cathedral — whatever gets you there.

No restrictions on gear. Hardware, software, DAW, dawless, a single pedal and a contact mic. All fair game.

The piece must be a drone as described above. Sustained. Textural. Timbral. Not melodic. Not rhythmic.

Post your submission in this thread with a short description of how you made it (gear, approach, etc.) - we need to know these things.

Diving further into the “what gear” question. I’ll probably be delving into my own arsenal of drone boxes for this one. But there is absolutely no need to feel excluded if you don’t own one (or several). Great drones are perfectly capable of being produced by conventional synths, guitars, voices, field recordings, or whatever else you have to hand. Drone box nerds like me are just as bad as any other GAS-afflicted subgroup of this cursed hobby, buying unnecessary stuff for bad reasons. You don’t need drone boxes to make drones.

Deadline

Saturday 30 May 2026 - Drone Day itself. When we should gather here and submit to the gods of incredibly slow filter sweeps, badly abused Paulstretch, gaffer taped down keyboards, and whatever other evil deities are summoned by our collective work.

EDIT: Multiple entries

OK, so additional rule. No limit to number of submissions per person. But if you do submit more than one, try to make them notably different in terms of approach/feel/instruments. No spamming the board with 17 recordings of a Grendel Drone Commander doing subtly different types of <(<(<(<(< throb >)>)>)>)>

Voting and winners

No voting or winners on this one. Drones are subjective. And the beauty of them is all in the deep immersion not in what floats back to the surface.

If we get enough submissions, and I’m not too horizontal after listening to them, I’ll try to get my shit together and ensure they are collated and posted on Bandcamp, with a link submitted to the official Drone Day website so our collective vibrations are captured and immortalised for ever, and maybe even some cash made for charity.

So: tune low, sustain long, and let it drone.

See you in the hum.
