I find there something very appealing about listening to lyrics in a unfamiliar language. I love hearing the different rhythms and sentence structures, and even a sort of inherent musicality within the language itself. I find I’m paying more attention to the emotion being communicated through ways other than linguistic meaning. And, not knowing what is said leaves more for the imagination to feed upon. What are your favourite tracks in a language you don’t speak?

These are a couple of my favourites.

Hey everyone! I’m attaching a link to a track that probably captures the kind of sound I’m looking for. Something minimalist, a bit funky, probably acid lo-fi techno. In terms of artists, the mood is somewhere around early Surgeon, Jerome Hill, and Pom Pom. It’s kind of hard to explain in words haha.

Yesterday I put together a small mix of tracks that matched the vibe I was able to find on my own. I’d really appreciate it if you could point me toward labels or artists worth digging into next.

This kind of issue has been raised several time, but I haven’t found one for the Tonverk + one of the -takts in “tandem”.
I’m wanting to make a portable Tonverk/DN2 setup, with the machines side by side. Anyone know of a good, light, solid tray/stand that I can velcro them to, so I can easily throw them in a bag, take home, sit on couch etc.?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on in case anyone else might make use of it: an interactive, real-time 3D Audio Spectrogram Visualiser built with Three.js, custom GLSL shaders, and the Web Audio API.

I wanted to create a responsive, hardware-accelerated 3D terrain that I could use to conveniently analyse audio coming from either my device microphone or streaming from another browser tab without needing to install anything. It all runs from the browser and you can try it out yourself with the Live Demo link.

Live Demo: 3D Audio Spectrogram Visualiser

I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any ideas you have for further performance or UX optimisations. Feel free to check out the code, fork it, or test it out with your own audio setups!

Well I did it again. A long time ago I bought a Digitakt and had a great time learning the Elektron work flow. Got all hot and bothered needed more sample based stuff. I sold it and got a OT MkII. Blew my mind and got lost a lot. Maybe got too lost! Sold it to get a Akai Key 37. Amazing but so different. Love it and still use it. Missed those clicking keys. Got a Digitakt II. Love the way the finger memory works. Love those clicking keys. Life is good.

Roland U-110, U-220, full SN-U110 expansion card catalog comprehensive sample library

i started on 4 April 2026 to autosample a Roland U110 and Roland U220 internal sounds, along with each SN-U110 expansion card patch, all cards through both machines.

it took 91 days to finish, and i have 371GB of samples in 1050 folders of 128 wav samples each between 6 seconds and 18 seconds long.

at most there are only 2 velocity layers to a patch, both autosampled individually over 128 notes.

the idea was to record these boxes and their sounds across the full range of notes, to archive the characteristic audio signature of the sampling technology of the time, and to highlight the differences between the U110 and U220 technology by using the same data cards through each machine.

i’m writing this post to broadcast the availability of the raw sounds of these now 36 year old devices, and to farm advice on where to initially put the samples on arhchive.org. There is a lot of collections like community data and community audio, but i’d like to get a better idea of where historical Roland community archival content should go.

Considering building a Mac companion app for Tonverk (card overview, health check, verified backups)

JarlLyng

I own a Tonverk and I build small Mac apps for musicians on the side (It’s mono, yo! and It’s 404, yo!, both for sample prep). After a few months with the Tonverk my SD card is already getting away from me, and reading the SD card folders and filetypes thread here, it seems I’m not the only one.

A few things I keep bumping into. Files that aren’t 48 kHz load fine but play back with degraded quality, and nothing warns you. Presets store absolute paths, so reorganizing folders can quietly break them. Deleting or moving a sample breaks every project that referenced it, with no warning, which makes cleaning up feel like defusing a bomb. And backup is a manual Finder copy in USB disk mode, with no way to know the copy is complete and intact.

So I’m considering building a native Mac companion app for exactly this. It would scan the card and give you a browsable library of everything on it, with waveforms and the technical details that matter (sample rate, bit depth, mono or stereo, length). It would run a health check that flags the problems above in plain language. It would find duplicates, but never delete anything on the card itself, instead moving files to a quarantine folder on the Mac so it’s always reversible. And it would make verified, versioned backups instead of hope-for-the-best folder copies.

It would deliberately not touch projects, patterns or parameter locks. The project format is Elektron’s own and changes with OS updates, so this would be a companion, not an editor.

Before I build it I want to know whether this is a real problem or just my own tidiness anxiety. What do you actually do today to keep your card under control and backed up? And is there something about managing the card that annoys you more than the things I listed? Curious what you think.

If I, for example, have a single cycle waveform and make a bass line with that, is there a way to get the MIDI notes from that into Ableton with overbridge?

Fairly new as an owner of the Digitakt II so bare with me…

But I was wondering how I might send individual midi through Digitakt II into Ableton via USB? Is this possible? I would also like to be able to hear the audio in through Ableton also.

I’m not really sure if this is doable, and I’ve had a bit of a look but I haven’t seen anything specifically mentioning this use case(or perhaps I am not very good at looking).

Any chance?

Hey everyone,

Lately I’m not happy with the sound of my live sets. It doesn’t sound as clear, warm, or punchy as I’d like.

My setup is Eurorack + Analog Rytm into an Allen & Heath MixWizard, then into the Octatrack, into my audio interface, and recorded in Ableton.

Any tips? Maybe some Octatrack settings I’m missing, or would a compressor help? I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Hard tracks for hard times.

Unfortunately fallen on hard times. I’ll be releasing some old music I let sit for too long to hopefully rack in some meager funds. I know that sounds rough.

These are two tracks I always loved from a live set I did about 7 or 8 years ago. Heavily abusing the Tascam MN-15 compressor and Boss BX-8. Dave Smith Evolver on bass and Digitakt doing samples and some drums. Had a lot of fun with these. Very raw. Very fun.

One of my 2 Overhub v1 units is failing, so I’m looking at the v2 Overhub as a replacement. It only has 2 USB-A connectors and 1 adapter. Does Elektron sell extra adapters? All my legacy kit has the old style USB-A connector.

A little disappointed that it’s only 6 ports, where the older unit is 7 port, hey-ho.

I wrote a python script that will parse sheet music, map it to ER-1 parameters, and “play” it on the ER-1! more info here: Fugue For My Drum Machine — HANK THE MASON

The drum machine started glitching out a little bit, which sometimes happens in extreme weather (I recorded this during a heat wave). I like the effect though - it creates some wild tunings and other artifacts.

I was considering the Digitone 2 and threw a fast look into the manual but am not informed enough to be sure I understand what I read.
Basically what I’m trying to find out is if I can have overlapping notes in a sequence or if one trigger cuts the next one.
So I would like to know if the sequencer has to be polyphonic in order to do this or is it enough that the synth is polyphonic?
Asking because this is one of the things I don’t like about the Digitakt 2 I.e the fact that I cannot let pads playing in a circle and overlapping, but they always cut each other out.
This is as far as I understand because it is monophonic or am I getting something wrong?
Is it possible on the digitone?

Digitakt II Load Error / Samples Not Saving

Thisisthehaunt

Seemingly out of no where, when recording a sample on my Digitakt 2 (initially over usb but checked and it’s also happening with any input source) and hitting save, naming it etc., it appears to very quickly finish the ‘saving’ and go straight to the assign to track prompt.

When I select the track it says Load Error, in the same way it would if the project Ram was full but it’s doing it on a fresh project too. Also discovered it’s actually not even saving the sample.

Clicking no to assign sample to track and then going to find it on the Drive to assign it manually to a track doesn’t work either. No sample saved!

Very odd. It out of the blue in the middle of a session and there’s no apparent project ram or storage space issue.

Using the Transfer app to add samples and assigning them to a track works fine, but the load error/sample not saving bug occurs with every other input method (USB, 1/4” inputs, re-sampling from a selected individual track).

Wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I did try searching for an answer on here already but nothing I’ve seen has shown a fix or cause. I tried re-installing the latest firmware, power cycling, running a test startup by holding FUNC during power up which reported no errors. Still nothing.

Obviously going to reach out to Support, but y’all tend to be quicker and it’s really killing the workflow on a current project I’m trying to finish.

Appreciate any advice.

Forgive me if I’m being stupid, as I’m still relatively new to TV.
How do you sample perfect loops from a synth being sequenced by TV, or simply synced to it ?
Starting of the recording is either manual or threshold activated. I just want to record a loop that start on next 1.0.0. at lasts x beats.

BONK, to get the most out of Tonverk Subtracks (free!)

Hey 'nauts,

So after about six months with Tonverk I started to get frustrated with how deep the potential of Subtracks are for drum machine duties, versus how limited they are to set up on device. I mean, TV has an autosampler for .elmultis, and theres LoopSeek for going deeper, but there’s nothing for Subtracks that lets you customize velocity layers, round robins, etc. Most people have had to write scripts or even hand-edit .eldrum files.

Soooo I built a free+ tool that helps you get the most out of TV’s Subtracks. You can build complex, deep kits fast, from files (free) or even sample direct from hardware or plugins (paid). It’s actually even… fun? (Well, I tried to make it as fun as possible. You be the judge!) Check it out here:

Here’s whats on offer:

Use 128 velocity layers per subtrack - fit 128 different samples in each subtrack, if you want!

Configure up to 8 round robins per subtrack

Loop slicing with bpm, transient detection, slice editing, and auto-distribute within or across subtracks

Smart Fill (name your subtracks, drop a bunch of samples in the Pool, then Smart Fill auto distributes them to the subtracks based on closest name)

Local only, audio never hits the web. Only web connection is for license key (pro), version number (updates), and bug reports.

Save and reload your kits

Save and load templates

Sample library indexing so you fly through your huge sample library with auto-audition

Lots of keyboard shortcuts, including ‘playing’ / auditioning your kit

Sample directly from hardware (BONK Pro only - 14 day trial) - customize velocity layers, round robins, timing etc

Sample directly from plugins (BONK Pro only - 14 day trial)

So yeah, the entire files-based workflow is free for life

Sampling from hardware or plugins is a one-time 29€ at launch (that’s 10€ off the regular 39€, which it returns to after the first month post launch.) Again that’s a one time thing, I don’t like subscriptions and I bet you don’t either… Literally just trying to cover my production and hosting costs and time and any time spent going forward on support.

Hi all! Got a new Digitakt 2 a few days ago and have loved it so far. However, I had it freeze on a startup on the Logo screen. Turned it back on and off, held down FUNC, and it would still freeze each time I turned it back on. Then miraculously it let me get to the Test menu on a FUNC hold and it seems to be doing okay now…I’ve contacted Elektron support. Do I need to return the unit? I don’t want it to freeze up on me again. Thanks!

Hiya folks, I’m trying to set up Track 2 on my TV to receive MIDI channel 16. I set AUTOCHANNEL to 16 and when I play a key from the external keyboard (which is set to 16), Track 13 illuminates, indicating that it’s receiving MIDI data. When I press Track 13 on the TV, the SUBTRACK buttons light up indicating they are receiving incoming MIDI data.
I’m a bit confuzzed.

Tonverk preroll issue

Noticing a weird preroll issue with external clock. I’ve got my TV hooked up to an old Zoom HD-16 recorder as my master clock. When I put the Zoom into record mode and hit play, it gives a 1-bar preroll before starting.

If the recorder time is at 000:00:010 or less, TV will ignore the preroll and start immediately, which is a real hassle for syncing. If I set the time to 000:00:011 or later, TV will acknowledge the preroll and only start when it is done. Never had this issue with another device (DTII behaves properly in the same scenario).

Bug or am I doing something wrong?

Arturia Beatstep Custom Firmware?

Hi, I have recently dug out my old Beatstep (non pro) as main contorller to use in a Max/MSP patch of mine.

Playing around with it I was thinking how the BS really got the short end of the stick in comparison to the non-pro KeyStep functionality wise. Since it’s starting to be a “mature” product I was wondering whether anyone had ever tried to reverse engineer the firmware and try to create a custom one (not unlike what people are getting around with regarding the Zoom pedal series).

As I understand the main processor is a STM32F103. I was thinking about throwing the firmware in Ghidra and seeing what I can make out of it. The perspective of an “open” beatstep sure is intriguing
