To hell with Wall Street, remember Hoover's Bank rescue attempts? They all went belly up within 12 months anyway. It wasn't until FDR called a bank holiday, took over homeowner loans and created millions of jobs via WPA infrastructure programs that we finally pulled out of the depression. It was jobs and debt relief for the average American then, and that's what we need now.

The time is ripe, folks. Democrats must start acting like Democrats, and take full advantage of a progressive majority in both houses. And Barack Obama should lead the charge.

Prevent Voter Suppression on Election Day!

The best way to guarantee your vote counts this election cycle is to vote early, in person. A few great suggestions from Bill Maher's blog, our goal is to inform voters of their rights and make sure every vote counts.

The number one reason voters are challenged on election day is showing up at the wrong precinct. This link will give you the correct direction to your precinct.

The second reason is that your photo id and voter's registration info doesn't match. If you have a problem with the precinct, go to the Main office of the Elections Center and state your problem directly to them. (To find locations, simply enter your address, this search engine returns links to state by state specific officials.) The precinct, under law, has no authority in this matter.

Note that some states now require name verification and have purged voters for other administrative reasons. To prevent voter suppression, you still have 6 business days to get your ids straightened out before you head to the precinct.

1. Check your driver's license, or state ID. Is it expired? Go to your license or ID providers and renew it. In some states, voters can be held for arrest for simply presenting a suspended license.

2. Owe any court fees, municipal fines? If you did not pay your child support, and your ID was suspended, any other state actions are levied against you, go in person, pay all fines, clear it up before you vote.

3. Make sure your state id name matches your voter registration format. If you registered your name differently (Mary Kay Miller vs Mary K. Miller) you still have enough time to correct it, go in person to the state office and get it fixed.

What impresses me the most these days is President-Elect Obama's consistency in cabinet nominations: merit selection, with an emphasis on "person-job fit" choosing Main Street solutions as the most effective road to problem-solving. Labor Secretary nominee Hilda Solis is further proof of Obama's decision-making genius. Finally, a leader who walks the talk with transparency and common sense. What we see is what we will most probably get.

Working to re balance the playing field a top priority, President-Elect Obama chose Ms Solis for her green jobs experience and perspective on what her mission as Secretary of Labor is all about. The Bush team has almost certainly gutted this department over the last eight years through benign neglect. Given the enormous challenge ahead, President-Elect Obama has shown great confidence in the American workforce, understanding that we will deliver excellence in every area if called upon. American workers are, were, and always will be America's most important resource.

While cleaning out "mybarackobama.com" blog, came across this piece originally posted in October. Considering Wall Street's Maddoff the company of thieves to come, I am taking the President at his word: should compelling evidence comes forth, no one is above the law... and vindication is sweet.

There's something about the mortgage crisis that smells of organized crime. Credit swaps, phoney bank appraisals, unregulated new trading products (scams?) that defy comprehension bred like rabbits under a Republican porch, a Bush-McCain trickle-down fantasy. Consider this: Congressional deregulation plus lack of oversight (police) unleashed organized crime. Infiltrating a speculation-driven financial system, experts at the "con-fidence" game, the beauty of this opportunity would wet any criminal agenda. Conclusion: Congressional deregulation and the Bush policy gave all our money to criminals, on a silver platter. Hello...

The opportunity to steal trillions by simply presenting a business card and posting a website, launched hundreds of new mortgage companies, private lenders, and get rich quick infomercials. Bundling the banks and Wall Street with the bill, it seems to me, a real novice, that the entire financial system fit right into the 21st century criminal mind, an emerging global consideration. For example, this past June, I was able to search comparison appraisals specific to my home for the first time. What shocked me the most was learning that the bank appraisal on my 2007 mortgage was $100,000- $150,000 "officially" overvalued. Any criminal conspiracy would not work without bank cooperation, regulatory neglect, and international vulnerabilities.

When Congress returns in November, the best move would be to get both sides together and reach a bi-partisan agreement to fully fund and support the best special investigators, with a mission to untie the twisted shell companies, find the extortionists, co-conspirators, sophisticated, white collar criminals at the helm. A quality, international approach to stop "crime" could also recover the trillions that have been stolen if we are successful.

Democrats need to take the lead here, get past the lobbyists and partisan dupes, the naive and uninformed, and identify the economic terrorists playing everyone for suckers.

I'm from Chicago and I have an attitude. Maybe it's the mean streets, freezing winters, or the "fixed" world we experience every day, but voters are getting the "big picture" now about why Republicans are objecting to Obama's plan, the Rush Limbaugh position.

IT"S ALL A PLOY- Listen carefully to this discussion on Morning Joe; listen carefully because Republicans are being very transparent here. If you add all the comments together from across the Republican spectrum, including the election of Michael Steele as their frontman, they are simply grabbing "change" for profit, the same economics that brought us to our knees. This is the hidden agenda- how they (them that's got) can continue to make profit during this crisis. Assessing stock futures, micr0-managing program and infrastructure specifics, demanding tax cuts for the rich, dissing what Scarborough calls "old, social welfare programs" like food stamps and unemployment comp. It is all so familiar... Republicans smell "green" money coming, to hell with the rest of the country.

Republicans will continue to manipulate the "good guy" efforts of Obama and Dems in Congress, finding any way they can to cut out labor, new competition (small business), equal opportunity, upward mobility, the entire MIDDLE CLASS once again. This is not news; this is their modus operandi.

Every single Republican criticism of the bailout focuses on burying the middle class, attacking every Main Street program, while they conjure up the New Republican party, including putting the one black person on the team in the front window. But most of all, the motive behind these actions is to divert from reality once again, make sure that we the people are left "on our own" even now. That is what Republicanism today is all about... "Ownership"... and Nancy Pelosi has their number.

The Time is Ripe for We the People to stand up and NOT allow the Republican culture of greed to take over the road to "big buck" recovery, either. Trust me, the rich smell the future, and since they have money, trying to figure out where they should put their own investments now, a new form of "insider trading" is the real motive. Ready to place their bets on "recovery" market futures, repeating the same losing behavior, Republicans will continue to exploit our natural resources, the American workforce, the stock market, the financial system, the media, all of us. Under the guise of conservative (sic) "values", know that they are simply fighting to the death for failed, "trickle-down" economics to continue. Because of this disingenuous behavior, President Obama and the Dems should not give them an inch, much less corporate tax breaks in the future.

Been there, done that.

Democratic Leadership MUST call a Moratorium On Home Foreclosures... Yesterday!

In case you didn't know because NO ONE in Congress is mentioning the "M" word (mortgage crisis) anymore, the 110th Congress passed the Hope for Homeowners mortgage relief act last July, and the program has failed miserably on every level. Here's the rub: Since activated in October, with no Congressional oversight at all, Bush's administration has chosen to absolutely ignore 'delivering' the Hope for Homeowners mortgage relief program through simple neglect.

And the Obama administration and Democratic majority in Congress has not acted to correct this at all. Why no outcry? Knowing this is true, why no "logical" call for a moratorium on home foreclosures while Congress checks this out, at the least? Everyday the Democrats do nothing to advance their own already funded H4H program, lenders continue to foreclose- while more folks are downsized, let go, wages continue to shrink, more foreclosures. This vicious cycle is the real story here, folks.

The Obama administration and the 111th Democratic Congress owes every American family BIG TIME as of right now. Families cannot wait one more day for Congress to get it together, figure it out, seek feedback and advice in their hearings from the banks (not the consumers) as foreclosures keep piling on every day. And, oh yeah, if I performed this poorly on my PT job?... why I'd never work 20 hrs a week max in this town again, be sleeping in a box in a week.

Democratic leaders need to "act" at this critical tipping-point-moment for millions of families. Call a bank Holiday, model Roosevelt's most successful program, take over all the loans, create new banks, and stop enabling the same losers and thieves who brought this entire nation to our knees. (Wall Street and Predatory lenders)

Besides, don't we taxpayers now own the majority stock in these "failures" by now? Subpoena their "books", bust their chops, do the math!!!!

There's something so lame to consider regarding the Panetta CIA statement... an old lesson from Sister Mary Listenup " The road to hell is paved w good intentions"

Note to all government folks: The American people will no longer accept the word of any elected or appointed government official who is not straight up with the truth. Congress has the power and enormous responsibility of oversight of all Intelligence programs, and the CIA chose to just blow Congress off with the 'what's your problem?" defense.

Time for Panetta to come clean on all the previous practices hidden from Congress and the American people and stop covering up for the CIA. Transparency is not just a concept, but a demand from the voters as represented in our Congressional leaders. We the people will not be lied to again. The Intelligence oversight team is walking the talk and under attack for a reason. Who ever said it would be easy to change the cultural choice of the majority of Americans to ignore the law, double talk, cheat, steal on every level.

Note to President Obama: As the CEO of the Democratic Party, you need to start implementing your policy and become the LBJ of our times. See polls where you are obviously losing "us" - a real time measure of your "governing" abilities. Truman desegregated the military with a Presidential order, LBJ made the Democrats pass the civil rights legislation almost by force. You need to use your power to end don't-ask-don't-tell and declassify all photos, CIA programs, illegal agency actions that were not shared with Congress, and take control of the Democrats in the Senate as the leader of your party.

Half truths and compromise is what has brought us to our knees in the first place. Time to open all the books and memos, facilitate a major purge of all CIA issues now. This is exactly the right moment as Congress considers their budget. No more walking away from your power. We the people gave it to you so start listening to us in real time. Open the White House windows on July 30th to see who we the people are as we march in support of a public healthcare option.

Armagettin' Outta Here: Gun Toting Radical Fundamentalists Fed by End of Times Mythology

Sorry this piece is so long, but it is really important for people of good will to understand the anthropological discoveries and theological research regarding the Book of Revelation, the main source of the false prophecy driving today's fundamentalist angst. This rapidly spreading virus is taking over thousands of Christian communities, especially in the Bible Belt, and spreading like wildfire on the internet. Simply google President Obama Antichrist or run a YouTube search to see hundreds of false teachings using biblical reference to justify the religious right's gun-toting aggression.

The greatest threat to our planet right now is self-fulfilled prophecy in a world where organized religions' end of world scenario dominates. The basic premise that the Book of Revelation is prophecy at all, featuring a fantastical, action packed story of an evil Antichrist, Armageddon, the end times, the second coming of Christ is pure fantasy. Theologians, scholars and anthropologists, especially the Dead Sea Scrolls studies have taught us so much more about the evolution of this first century Book, a testimony of a persecuted people in their own time, in their own way, a parable of martyrs, not prophecy.

The Book of Revelation was written during the 1st century period of mass persecution of Christians in Rome. Anthropologically, these parables are known as the underground press of their time, written by those Christians in prison on their way to the death arena, smuggling out their horror stories of suffering and death, the truth about their imprisonment in real time. Revelation is therefore a story of the courage of the martyrs, inspiring stories and images to help them endure and never stop believing. Knowing they would ultimately face death, no matter how monstrously they were being tortured, mutilated, killed, and yes, fed to the lions for the entertainment of the Romans, they prayed, they wrote, told stories of hope, and inspired each other to never give up their faith in God and Jesus Christ, even in the face of death.

The monstrous, exaggerated images found in Revelation were meant to emphasize the suffering, as well as offer truth and inspiration to other Christians hiding from their tormentors in the catacombs beneath the city. Think of these writings as apostolic, inspirational messages encouraging fellow Christians to hang in there, hold on to your faith in Jesus Christ, be brave martyrs facing death, because Jesus will ultimately defeat death, and welcome them in resurrection.

The authors of the Book of Revelation intentionally used a literary "code" and familiar imagery of the time as a way to protect those Christians not yet arrested should anyone be found w letters, gospel teachings, or even telling stories of Jesus Christ. Any Christian would be arrested, imprisoned and put to death in the arenas, sport for the decadent Romans in this mass murder campaign. Literary imagery was intentionally used to protect other Christians not yet caught by the Romans to warn them. For example "the seven headed dragon" reference was a common image of Rome at the time, referencing the 7 hills of Rome, the monster, i.e. the Roman Emperor. See volumes of scholarship and theology on Revelation for more details.

Conclusion: These stories of horror, suffering and faith were never to be taken literally or as prophecy. That is what this Book is really all about- the truth of the martyrs at that particular time in history, and the inspiring message to stand firm on their faith in spite of the horrors they faced.

Just like playing a children's game of "telephone", by the 21st century, the truth of the bible has been filtered down to pure fiction. This false teaching is the driving force behind the increased threats and acts of violence we are seeing from so-called Christian believers, militias etc. It is time for all adult Christians to take a firm stand against the hate, as Christ did, and care for the sick, the mentally challenged, the poor, the widows and children, the least of these our brothers and sisters.

The "everybody wins" scenario is totally achievable if you think "operations"
1. Edit existing legislation to include funding a study of workable, affordable, deficit neutral public option: open Medicare to those 50+ as your control group, paying a "righteous" monthly premium that will simultaneously address the "deficit" issue by creating an exclusive revenue stream to supplement Medicare by offering a "public", affordable healthcare option to those being laid off at the top of the food chain.
2. Set this research up via amendment that recommends Congress fund a "model" study of a the 50+ demographic workforce, and the single payer system, defining public option alternative as Medicare for this new group, saving money and gov expansion by using existing public program for study: with a start date of April 1, 2010 running through March 30, 2014 when other 'triggers" will benefit from this research as other public programs kick in (see current legislation launch dates)
3. Be transparent in your research and stay small i.e. focused on impact of medicare expansion on lowering prices and opening access to the financially challenged, top line and middle managers, large demographic of layouts today.

"Listening" is the key to "pleasing" all parties, which you absolutely can do, and actually will get things done.

My husband is a genius. Not a scientist, just a regular guy, who concluded years ago (after the Oakland CA Earthquake) that maybe.... just maybe all this earthquake activity is related to the removal of oil itself? Creating a honeycomb of empty caverns when oil is extracted, he simply concluded that of course the earth above would quake and collapse whenever oil was removed. Beyond the "human error" cause of the Gulf spill, maybe "crude oil" itself is the lifeblood of Mother Earth and we're just too dumb to realize this simple truth. Why does oil exist in the first place? Do we really think oil exists just so we can drive cars, or could it be that we are literally attacking the circulatory system of the planet itself?

Another regular guy I know made a comment that maybe we are the problem and Mother Earth is trying to tell us something with every natural disaster. Like a cut to a major artery, the mere fact that we are extracting oil at all is killing our planet, draining her lifeblood. All might consider the possibility that we really know nothing and are literally killing the planet's "circulatory system" to serve our selfish needs.

This crisis in the Gulf offers us an opportunity to spend every waking "species" moment and every investment dollar to develop renewable energy, to save the planet's natural lifeforce from our destructive arrogance.

Robert Gibbs and David Axelrod have done a great job handling the "image" of President Obama as far as getting him launched and elected, but both men seem to forget that he is now also the executive leader of the Democratic Party. Time for Gibbs to step aside and let a better image come forth. The Democratic Party exists because of the voters, and the grassroots has had enough of the parenting and scolding. Treat us like adults and stop whining. The Party of the People needs positive reinforcement to deliver another win in November.
