Con Air Viewing Party

As some of you (hopefully all of you) know, Elephant Larry's spring show will be entirely about the 1997 Jerry Bruckheimer blockbuster "Con Air" which occupies a very special place in Elephant Larry's heart. Meaning that we've all seen it about 15 times or so. But you probably haven't!

So to rectify this problem, we're throwing a Con Air Viewing Party, this Saturday at my (Stefan's) house. There will two limited edition Con Air posters for the first fifty guests, plus we will be serving prison wine. Yum!

Don impersonators make me sad.

The announcer for this movie trailer does not have an easy job. The dialogue he was given to read is awful and it seems to spoil the entire plot of the film. But he gets through it as best he can...

...until the end. It sucks for him that his last sentence ends on the words "sleep dealer" and then he has to say "sleep dealer" one more time right after that. But boy oh boy, that last "sleep dealer" is not good. He almost sounds like he's announcing the name of a romantic comedy or dog movie.

That may sound like the beginning of a "compelling" short story, but it actually happened last night when we got to perform a very old, very out-dated sketch. Here's a live version, if'n you're interested.

I've enjoyed the trailers I've seen for this Summer's movies. Wolverine looks big and stupid and fun. I've really enjoyed the Star Trek trailers, and love the concept of the movie. Up is, I've been told, a documentary about me when I'm an old man, but with my current personality.

But none of them have given me that jump-up-in-your-seat, giddy, "I want to watch this again right now," thrill that the above trailer did.

I didn't realize the real Sam Raimi had gone anywhere, until we got him back.

It never occurred to me that in two bordering countries, one might have left-hand traffic and one might have right-hand traffic, and that there would have to be switchover points.

It also never occurred to me that there would be so much to say about what side of the road people drive on.

Coffee and Fish

Maybe this isn't normal.

I've been eating tuna salad for lunch and dinner all week long (that's not the part I'm worried about), and I'm finding that I have a strong craving for coffee to go with my tuna fish. A really strong craving. It's so delicious.

Now, I understand why I might have an associative, nostalgia-based connection between these two foods. Many of my earlier tuna salad experiences involve bagels, and bagels pair well with coffee. But there's no reason to assume this connection should work without the bagel in between. It just works on its own; coffee and fish and mayonnaise taste good together. Somehow.

This isn't how things are supposed to be. I know it sounds gross on paper, but try it before drawing any conclusions. Or perhaps you already have and you agree with me, and this actually is normal after all. Perhaps.
