Two Samaritan’s Purse disaster units are headed this morning to the Oklahoma City area to bring relief to victims of deadly tornadoes.

We are talking with SP leaders in the field who are already on the ground now to determine the areas of greatest need and how we can best help.

You can BE a hero for our friends at Pregnancy Resource Center on Wednesday.  We are looking for just a few strong folks to help move generously donated office furniture from South Charlotte to PRC’s Midtown offices.

You bring the muscle, we’ll bring the box truck… and lunch.

MARK your calendars for July 13-21 and take your summer break with us. Other cities are joining in as well and here is how you can help:

PRAY: It takes four months to prepare for this event which is our city’s largest outpouring of service and generosity.  Please pray for our volunteers as they continue to work their regular jobs and invest in what God’s going to do through Elevation in July. Pray for our outreach staff as we work overtime to make this event bigger and better than ever. Pray for the organizations we’ll be serving with that they will be blessed and that lives will be changed by the love of Jesus in us.

PLAN: Take a look at our list of outreach partners, and our newest partners to see some of the non-profits we’ll be serving with. If you’ve been waiting to serve in outreach, but didn’t know how to start, LOVE Week is the perfect time to jump in. We’ll serve with other great non-profits as well.

ENGAGE in conversations with you eGroup and eTeam about what day/days you might be able to serve together and mark those in your calendars now. Get excited about what God will do through us in our city.

SHARE your favorite LOVE Week moments with your co-workers, friends, and neighbors. Invite others to get involved. This is a great way to invite folks to church because we’ll have outreach events at every Elevation location that you can engage in together.

We are excited to have Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as one of our newest outreach partners. This organization is the leader in raising funds for research to cure this life-shortening disease.

This May 18, Elevation volunteers will have an opportunity to support one of the non-profits biggest events, the Great Strides walk in Freedom Park. Meet and support families like Rebecca and DJ Fish who have two kids with CF. She’s a great Elevation volunteer who is fighting for a cure for Colin and Katelyn, and we are grateful for the opportunity to join them.

Medical Clinic – This Saturday, Volunteers Needed!

The next free medical clinic in the community offering basic health screenings and health education will be this Saturday, May 11th from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Briar Creek Road Baptist Church, 1451 Briar Creek Road. If you are interested in volunteering we’d love to have people help with the registration process. There are three volunteer shift opportunities:

9:00 – 10:30 AM
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
12:00 – 2:00 PM

RAIN, Regional AIDS Interfaith Network, was founded in 1992 to engage the faith community by addressing challenges presented with HIV/AIDS. The focus of RAIN has since shifted from caring for those dying of AIDS to providing compassionate care for those living with HIV/AIDS, this is largely due to such great advances in medicine.

RAIN offers several programs to those seeking assistance. The EPY Project, Empowering Positive Youth, is one which serves adolescents in the surrounding communities by psycho-social services, education, outreach and leadership training,  EPY enhances equality for HIV positive youth. Other programs that are available include Care Teams, advocacy, minority outreach, education and the Trinity Project.

RAIN has:

• Provided over 165,000 hours of service to individuals living with HIV
• Trained and educated over 5,000 volunteers
• Provided HIV/AIDS prevention education and awareness to over 50,000 people
• Coordinated programs in over 100 congregations  and served in 13 counties in North and South Carolina

On Saturday, May 4^th RAIN is hosting the 17^th annual AIDS WALK Charlotte! People come and walk in memory of those who have passed, as an advocate for those affected with HIV and to CELEBRATE the life of those that are still going through their journey.

AIDS WALK Charlotte is the largest HIV/AIDS awareness event in the Carolinas. It’s an easy, fun two mile walk through Charlotte’s historic Fourth Ward and serves as a visual representation of our commitment to and compassion for ALL those impacted.
