Caroline Miller’s Story

One family, the Millers, nearly lost their daughter Caroline to the flu when she was five years old. Now 10, Caroline, her sister Katie, mom Jennifer Pool and father Christopher Pool, recall her illness and how frightening her hospitalization became.

Caroline’s grandparents, Kathryn and Michael Pool, also described how Caroline’s illness made them realize the importance of getting an annual flu vaccine.

Kendra Mann-O’Brien’s Story

Joan Mann tells the devastating story of her adult daughter Kendra Mann-O’Brien, a mother of two young children, whose flu turned into pneumonia and took her life in a matter of weeks.

Serese Marrotta, executive director of FamiliesFightingFlu.org, who lost a five year old son to the flu, explains in this video why grandparents are important in the fight against the flu.

The Lubetkin Media Companies produced a fund-raising appeal video for the Greater Newark Holiday Fund in time for the video to be used on the “jumbotron” screens at the Prudential Center in Newark on November 28 at a New Jersey Devils game.

We shot the fund-raising public service announcement over two days in the Newark area, including on-camera messages from Ralph LaRossa, president and chief operating officer of Public Service Electric & Gas, the honorary chair of this year’s fund drive, and John Nietzel, senior vice president of Investors Bank, Short Hills, NJ, who is president of the Greater Newark Holiday Fund.

We also visited an early childhood center in Newark supported by the Holiday Fund, and wrapped up the video with a montage of still images from client agencies helped by donations to the Holiday Fund.

We spent two days filming interviews and capturing images of the businesses being profiled.

The first video features Bob Frankenfield, executive director of Family Promise of Hunterdon County, a nonprofit organization that provides help for homeless residents. The bank is a sponsor of several of the agency’s fundraisers, and also provides banking services.

The second new video features Scaffolding Towers of America, which specializes in towers used by broadcasters at sporting events, while also providing construction scaffolding for commercial and residential projects.

Unity Bank has ordered a total of 12 videos from Professional Podcasts. Four videos still in production profile AKK Inspections, a home inspection company; YMGS Brothers, which owns a convenience store and service station on Route 22 in Greenbrook, NJ; Dockside Market & Grill, a seafood restaurant in Flemington; and Crayton’s Creations, a fashion and custom jewelry store in Easton, PA.

Simchat Torah service at Temple Emanuel, Cherry Hill, NJ, on October 7 included a Torah hakafah (procession) and the unrolling of one of our oldest Torah scrolls, a 250-year old Czechoslovakian Torah that survived the Holocaust. It’s the first time in many years that we’ve completely unrolled a Torah, and members chanted from each book in the Torah. See the video below.

Ted Mann, digital media director for Gannett newspapers in New Jersey, was the keynote speaker at the annual meeting of the Jewish Community Voice of Southern New Jersey in Voorhees, Camden County, on June 1, 2011. Mann discussed the digital changes and technology innovations rocking the news media industry, and its impact on traditional print newspapers. Mann was introduced by Steve Lubetkin, managing partner of Lubetkin Global Communications, who is the Voice’s technology columnist.

A sad postscript to the cautionary comments in Ted’s keynote is the post on his blog July 10, announcing that he had killed Gannett’s hyperlocal effort, InJersey.com, with a detailed explanation of why it went dark.

On Oct 2nd and 3rd, 2010, Temple University will once again host the area’s largest digital media unconference.  A PodCamp  is a BarCamp-style community UnConference for podcasters and listeners, bloggers and readers, as well as anyone interested in New / Social Media. (A BarCamp style UnConference means that the participants are also the experts and the speakers.)

First held in Boston, Massachusetts, Podcamp has spread across the United States and the world to bring people of all backgrounds and abilities together to teach and learn from each other. Recent events have included Pittsburgh, Toronto, New York City, Munich, Atlanta, San Antonio and Stockholm.

Crusty Fungus, a local group of street musicians, was performing on the Long Branch, NJ boardwalk when we were there on August 19. This video contains one song, and the lyrics include some profanity and drug references.
