Once again my son is contemplating the existence of a real Santa Claus. He knows the mall Santas are mere mortals dressed in costume. I do believe he worries that if he says aloud that there may not be a real Santa then he may not get any gifts under the tree. Macy's department stores are trying to collect a million reasons to believe...

The third week of school and my son was suspended from the school bus for a week. The crime - talking to loudly. He was not saying mean things, he was not cussing, he was not name calling, he was not spitting, he was not throwing things out the window - he was just talking to loud.
For the last week, I have had to take him to school each morning and leave work early to pick him up from school. What a pain.
Somehow my son managed to not have any homework with first two weeks of middle school. Well, the honeymoon is over. Yesterday he came home with homework in three different subjects. He sat at the kitchen table for a while in shock just starring at it. This is just the beginning.
My son waited all summer for middle school to start. He was most looking forward to the freedom in the lunchroom. The thoughts of being able to choose where to sit and being able to get items from a snack bar were so enticing. The first day, I sent him to school with $2.00 (which is the cost of the regular lunch). My son decided to take full advantage of this new lunchroom freedom. He used his money to purchase a green apple slushie and a bag of chips from the snack bar for lunch. He ended up being hungry the rest of the day at school and begged for dinner to be early that night. The growling of his stomach caused the freedom of the lunchroom to lose its luster.
We were watching TV and a commercial for Obama came on. My son said, "Obama rhymes with Osama. Osama is in Afghanistan doing bad things and that is where our people are getting hurt. So, I would not vote for Obama". For a kid, it's all about the name.
