Elkhart Civic Theatre is excited to announce its 2026 Michael Cripe Studio Theatre Camps, where students ages 8-18 have the opportunity to develop their skills in a fun summer setting. The ECT camps offer two tracks, one for younger students and one for middle- and high-school students. Both camps run from June 8 – 19, weekday mornings, with performances on June 19 and 20. DOWNLOAD ENROLLMENT FORM HERE.

MUSICAL THEATRE FAST TRACK (ages 12-18) is directed by Mary Norwood and Brock Butler.

Older students will experience the excitement of putting on a full-fledged musical in just two weeks. They’ll be challenged to learn lines, songs, choreography, blocking, and how to work together as a team. It’s crazy fast but very rewarding. Many ECT students have returned to participate for several years to enjoy the fun and the final results of their efforts. The Musical Theatre Fast Track is limited to 50 students.

Musical Theatre Fast Track campers will perform Hang Ten, which features surfing songs in the style of the Beach Boys, the Ventures, and other surf music bands. An Italian immigrant’s Surfin’ Burger restaurant sits on one of California’s best beachfronts. But his dream of owning a restaurant in America is about to be shattered. Not only are his granddaughters becoming too American for Luigi’s tastes, but scheming land developers try to steal his property to build a huge hotel on it. Filled with both hijinks and heart, audiences will cheer as Luigi is able to thwart the developers thanks to the help of his daughter, granddaughters, their surfer friends, and a bird-watching society!

STORYTELLERS’ THEATRE (ages 8-11), is directed by Annette Kaczanowski.

Designed for younger actors, this camp will help them develop vocal projection, stage presence, characterization, and self-confidence. Along with having a great time, kids will learn how to work together to create something special. At the end of camp, the kids will perform Snow White and the Seven Endings, in which “happily-ever-after” gets turned on its head. It’s a comedic retelling of Snow White’s classic princess fairy tale. When the seven forest dwellers (who can be tall or short, it doesn’t matter!) reminisce about their recent run-in with a royal run-away, they each have a different take on how the story unfolds and who the real hero is. But which is the real ending? The only thing they agree about is that the Prince shouldn’t get the credit!

The Storytellers’ Theatre camp is limited to 15 students.

Camp performances will take place on June 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. at the Bristol Opera House. Students may receive a reduced camp fee by signing up by April 10. Final sign-up deadline is May 26.

Elkhart Civic Theatre summer camps are part of the Michael Cripe Studio, which is supported by generous underwriting from Jeff Cripe and Label Logic, Inc.

Both camps fill up fast, so parents are urged to register students early. The enrollment form and further information are available at elkhartcivictheatre.org/camp26.

Auditions for regional amateur premiere of Tony Award-Winning Best Musical Dear Evan Hansen May 13 & 16

Elkhart Civic Theatre will hold auditions for its production of Dear Evan Hansen at 6:30pm on Wednesday, May 13 and 12:00pm on Saturday, May 16 at the Bristol Opera House located at 210 E Vistula in Bristol, IN. Performances will be held July 24, 25, and 31 and August 1 and 2 at the Bristol Opera House.

Auditions will consist of vocals and readings from the script. All materials will be taught at auditions. Please bring a list of all conflicts from June 2- August 2. Dear Evan Hansen is directed by Brock Butler assisted by Stacey Nickel with vocal direction by Liesl Bell and choreography by Heather Holland.

About the show:

Seventeen-year-old Evan Hansen has felt invisible his entire life. But when a tragedy shocks his community and thrusts him into the center of a rapidly evolving controversy, Evan is given the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to be somebody else. As his web of well-intentioned lies begins to unravel, though, Evan is forced to confront the fact that the price of belonging may be far steeper than he bargained for.

Character Breakdown

Performers of all racial and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to audition. Dear Evan Hansen contains adult language and explores key themes of suicide, depression, anxiety, and drug use. Please note that all auditioners MUST be 16 years of age or older to audition for this production.

Evan Hansen: Smart, sincere, and excruciatingly self-conscious, Evan prefers to hover in the background, a supporting player in his own life, too afraid to step forward into the spotlight and risk ridicule or, what might be worse, no one noticing him at all. Playable age: 17 Pop tenor G2-B4

Heidi Hansen: Evan’s mother. Overworked and stretched too thin, Heidi loves her son fiercely, but fears they have begun to grow apart. She is prepared to do anything to repair the damage. Playable age: Late 30s- 40s. Pop Mezzo Soprano: F3-Eb5 (belt)

Zoe Murphy; Sensitive and sophisticated, with a sharp sense of humor, Zoe could care less about the status games and popularity rites of high school. She feels a terrible ambivalence over her brother’s death. Playable age: 16. Pop Soprano F3-E5

Connor Murphy: An angry, disaffected loner, Connor has been a troubled kid for as long as anyone can remember, an enigma and a source of endless consternation to his long-suffering parents. Playable age: 17 Pop Bari-Tenor G2-G4

Cynthia Murphy: Connor and Zoe’s mother. To Evan, she seems to be the perfect mother, nurturing, available, and willing to talk about anything. To her own children, it’s a bit more complicated. Playable age: Late 30s- 40s Pop Soprano F#3-E5 (belt)

Larry Murphy: Connor and Zoe’s father. Though often tense and taciturn, Larry shows a different face to the world, representing for Evan the dad he always wished for: strong, confident, and more than anything, reliable, someone to be counted on. Playable age: Late 30s- 40s Pop Bari/Tenor F#2-G4

Jared Kleinman: Droll and sarcastic, Jared covers his own insecurities with a well-practiced swagger and a know-it-all arrogance. Playable age: 17 Pop Tenor: A2-B4

Alana Beck: Earnest to a fault, prone to melodrama, Alana hides a deeper loneliness beneath an ever-present smile and an almost aggressive friendliness. Playable age: 17 Pop Soprano: F3-E5

Ensemble: In addition the above listed roles, this production will be feature a small ensemble of 6 additional performers. This ensemble will be utilized in Waving Through A Window, You Will Be Found, and select other moments throughout the show. They serve as both observers and participants in Evan’s story, embodying the pervasive presence of social media, public opinion, and collective empathy.

All auditioners are welcome and no fees are charged for participation in any Elkhart Civic Theatre Production.

In the forest, Oberon, the king of the fairies, is quarreling with his queen, Titania. He overhears Helena and Demetrius arguing and sends his servant, Puck, to use a love potion on both Titania and Demetrius. Puck accidentally uses it on Lysander, who instantly falls in love with Helena. Mayhem ensues between the four lovers. Meanwhile, a group of tradesmen are preparing a play for the Duke’s wedding. Puck, out of mischief, turns the lead actor into an ass, and Titania, seeing him immediately after also receiving the love potion, falls in love with him. Eventually, all is restored, and the tradesmen perform their play at the wedding feast.

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
