Dear Parents,

I just wanted to let you know that, as a gala auction item, the kindergarten team is offering "Munchies and a Moonwalk."

This will be for 12 lucky students. Bounce away with the kindergarten team after school at GM for approximately 1.5 hours.  Fun snacks provided.  Top two bids for each teacher.  Date and time to be worked out between teachers and parents.

The Gala Auction will be held February 4, 2012 at Olde Towne Athletic Club from 7 to 11 PM. Tickets are on sale at http://gmefoundation.org - $35 and $45 at the door or you can Download 2012GALATicketformto purchase tickets in advance. Visit the website for a sample of items to bid on. All proceeds go back to GMEF.

The proceeds will be used to improve our school by providing funding for programs such as technology, educational curriculum and facility improvements. The GMEF will accumulate and distribute resources beyond those provided by Cobb County or the PTA, in order to further enhance, foster and enrich the educational experiences of all students at Garrison Mill.

November is here and we blew through the month of October like leaves in the Fall.  Our Fall Centers were great!  Thank you to all of the parents who created and conducted the centers!  The kids had a blast!

With a new month we have new performance standards especially in Social Studies.  We have Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving Day.  See how much information your child knows at this point.  Discussions have already started.  Also, the School Council sponsors a letter writing project thanking "veterans" for their service to our country.  We will do some here but it would be helpful if you discussed it at home as well.

In Language Arts we are continuing building on their reading including the new "take home" books as well as Handwriting.

In Math number concepts and problem solving is our main focus.

There will be club photos taken for the school's yearbook on the morning of Thursday, November 10th for any student who has participated in any after school club.

This may include:   Chorus, Art club, Young Rembrandts, Odyssey of the Mind, Drama Club, Chess Club, Golf Club, Spanish Club, Cheer Dance, Club Scientific, Cub Scouts, Student Council, Wee Deliver, News Crew, Safety Patrol, etc. Please be sure to make your child aware of this activity which is strictly voluntary.

Fall is everywhere!!  We have been moving along with our studies and can't believe we are almost at the end of October.  I look forward to seeing you at conferences.

We have finished patterns in Math and moved onto "numbers".  This includes: counting "sets", ordinal numbers to "tenth", and graphing.

In Language Arts,we have been focusing on our "standards" of predicting, connecting, and retelling.  The kids have done a wonderful job of learning their Rainbow Words!  Now we are trying to get them to "connect" and use them in writing as well as find them in other books.

We have done some fun things in technology which you will see next week on the wall.

Yahoo Farms is on Friday.  We will be loading the buses at 9:15 on Friday morning.  Please remember if you are sending a lunch you must put it in a disposable bag because we can not promise anything would make it back.  Make sure your child is dressed appropriately as it will be "chilly" when we first get there and maybe the whole time.  Please be sure their jacket or sweatshirt is labeled with their name. 

The following people told me they would like to join us and you may all plan on coming:  Fischer, Yacoub, Aromin, Trichell, Rowe, and Lempert/Ginsberg. You can leave from the school or meet us there. We are allowing anyone who would like to go to drive themselves.  You will pay the $5.00 admission charge at the door. 

At the end you will be permitted to check your child out at the farm provided you sign the "official sign out" form which I will have with me.  I have their "class shirt" and we will give them to the kids to put on for the trip and when they return I will take them back.  I will wash them and keep them for the year, so they always have them when we would like them to wear them.

Pick up for QSP is today until 7:00.

Wow!  September is here and we are rolling right along.  What a GREAT class!  They are eager to learn and work very hard.  Just some housekeeping items...even though I will be updating the blog, I will also send home a "weekly reminders" every week.  Also, if your child is ever absent, please send a note when they return and if it is more than a couple of days,  I will often e-mail or call.

Language Arts - The care of books, picking out books, left to right - all known on "Performance Standards" as "concepts of print".  Today we also spoke about "previewing" and "sequencing" (1st, next, then, and last).  We have also discussed poems, rhymes, rhyming words, and sorting words ending in "at" and "an".

Math - We have done our first "exemplar".  Way to go!  They did a great job for it being the first time.  We have been working on position words and integrating math with language arts and sequencing.  Today the Three Bears story was told and we talked about sizes of things.  It actually should have come home today.

What a WONDERFUL Sneak-a-Peak! We enjoyed meeting everybody and look forward to seeing you on Monday. I wanted to let you know lunch will be at 12:05 everyday. Also, please look in your packet of information and you will see our specials schedule. We have PE on Monday so try to wear sneakers.
