With all the walking Cornflower did, it was very likely that she could hand-deliver all the letters she was carrying within a single day. However she found that using the post service left her with more time for her hobbies, and it was nice to spend some time with the postmaster between deliveries.

So imagine her surprise when a young woman she couldn’t place was standing outside of the Posthouse! Immediately, the gem’s mind began to wander with questions: Who is this person? What business does she have with the postmaster? And why was she grimacing? Better start with that last question first.

So, with her letters in hand, she took a few steps forward and addressed the young princess with some concern. “Um, excuse me? Is everything well? I don’t mean to pry, but you seem a bit troubled.” Her voice was steady, but as she spoke her expression grew darker.

Right away she could kick herself. She had made no attempts to introduce herself to a child, and she even failed to make her presence known before talking. One can only hope that the suddenness wouldn’t scare her, and that her vibe came off as ‘worried citizen’ and not anything unbecoming, like a potential gossiper. Truly, she’d have an easier time if she had her powers back.

“Guh…!” It wasnt exactly the ladylike noise of surprise that she would have desired, rather a grunt that she was discovered. Honestly, it was as if unexpected situations made all the classes she’d ever taken go completely out of her mind. Clearing her throat, she tries to make it seem like the sound had been a cough of some sort.

What was with this lady’s expression? Was there some taboo about licking letters? Did she copy the worst person in the world? Not to mention, why was she blue? Well, Elodie wasn’t in any position to confront anyone in this world - maybe blue skin was common. Or maybe it signified some latent power that would get her killed.

“Oh… don’t worry.” Still, at least she was polite. Elodie could navigate this situation… fine, if on the surface. “I’m just not familiar with the postal… practices of this realm. Asking would be trouble though, so I was sure I could handle it on my own.”

She turns the letter over in her hands, eyes flickering away, betraying her embarrassment. “I suppose I did cause trouble though. Did I do it wrong?”

She wasn’t scared of such a place – but after her earlier outburst at her ‘audience’ with this kingdom’s princess, she felt like she must be on a blacklist of some sort. Still, if she could apologise for her rudeness and explain her situation, in a diplomatic way, as she had been taught – then maybe the crown would take her into consideration. If the princess’s words were to believed, her presence here was an accident…

She sighs. She supposes she was free to do almost whatever she pleased, but not being treated politically, with no rules – it was completely unfamiliar. Usually she would enjoy it, but…

Hold on… she glances sharply to the side, her gaze narrowing when she notices someone’s eyes on her. He looked smart enough, but there was something about him that she didn’t like. She puts on her most petulant look. “Is something the matter?”

Sitting in front of the Posthouse, as it is so called, Elodie examines the envelope in her hands. She had written her father’s name on it in her neat cursive – while she was missing, she was sure anyone would recognise it and immediately send a search party – but the actual sealing of the envelope was more of a conundrum. There weren’t any wax seals in sight, the only method she’d ever used – how else was she supposed to close this thing?!

She looks around, before carefully tiptoeing to peek in the doorway, ringlets bobbing lightly. Squinting into the far distance of the room, she eventually sees someone – lifting the envelope to their mouth and licking it?

She looks down at the envelope in her hand, suddenly feeling more than a little dubious. Honestly, the concept seemed vile, but if it was how things were done here, she would rather learn from observation than reveal her lack of knowledge. Backing away from the door – furtively looking around to see if anyone was watching – she quickly licks the envelope and seals it shut.

“Ugh…” Her face scrunches up. It tasted disgusting, but she supposed she should be thankful it worked.

Elodie stares at the moving image in front of her. As daunting as waking suddenly in an unknown – a completely foreign – place in the middle of a duel for the fate of her kingdom was, she was relieved to know she had an audience with the princess. It alarmed her to think this country she had never heard of knew of her, but it comforted her to know she was being acknowledged with all proper respect. It also made her afraid, that there might be some unsavoury motives underneath, but…

“I demand to see the princess in person this instant! I am the Crown Princess of Nova - release me!” Making herself stand up as straight as she can muster, she puts on an impression of righteous outrage. If you looked confident enough, the majority of people would simply allow you what you wanted – it was how she had gotten her crystal, after all.

She can barely believe this. So that was why she felt strange – she had attributed it to nerves, but it was as if all her senses were dulled, her usual awareness of the magic around her stifled. And she was supposed to simply stay here and trust what this stranger had to say? What nobody country was this, that she had never heard of it?!

The person who escorted her here begins to usher her away, making Elodie back off – a primal fear rising when they take her by the wrist. “Unhand me! Unhand me this instant! This means war, do you hear me?! We were about to steal victory from another kingdom in warfare! You do not want to threaten Nova!”

Of course, their naval fleets had been overpowered, and her victory against the King in the duel was far from assured, but she had no choice. Show any sign of weakness, and it would spell the end for her.
