These are flies that adopt you as if you are their long lost mothers, and buzz around you, and land on you, for hours and hours.

In spite of my personal sticky fly, this afternoon I got registration and login working! I swear that was SO painful. (the fly and the playing with wordpress both).

Given the number of register and login plugins (features) offered on Wordpress, and Jane of CH's comments that she logged out all the time and had to re-login, I decided that these features were needed.
Yes, you can read my site without logging in. But you can't comment. When you hit "submit" it will ask for a password.

So then all I had to do was find a register/log in plugin that I liked. Many of them redirect you to the WordPress profile. Which is totally unnecessary, and also leaves you to figure out on your own to hit the "Elmsley Rose" on the upper top right corner. If it were me, I'd get stuck.

I found one that after registration and login, took me (or "Test_User") back to my site, all feathers nicely fluffed and ready to go!

It wasn't that hard to do this. It was determining if it was needed, then getting one that didn't re-direct to the WordPress Profile page, which I simply didn't want for my blog users. Don't let the posts of the last couple of days put you off building a WP blog!

Thankyou all so much for your help! You helped me figure out what to do!

I do hope the feature where a user can make a comment *on* an image works! I found it, but haven't installed and tested it yet. There's a few other neat plugins like that that I want to try out. If I'm going to build a new blog, I want it to be the best I can do :-) Perfectionist, me?

Thankyou again.

New Post - Comments on "Problems on Logging In"

Aha! I have outsneaked you all! And definitely not on purpose!

Thankyou so much for those who left test comments, but yes, my new blog is a WordPress one - at www.elmsleyrose.com. You will see a log in screen there, and be able to log in, and leave comments. But please don't - it'll just confuse me while I'm building it :-) There are just test entries there at the moment.
My whole point is that you shouldn't have to log in, though.

You can only find it via Google last time I looked -that's as far as it had reached in terms of search engines finding it ("web propagation"). A search engine a friend was using wasn't bringing it up until I him to Google it.

The decision to switch to WordPress was a rather recent one. I discovered that to continue using Blogger and make the changes that I wanted to (which included some very fundamental ones to the blog's structure, to make various posts more accessible) would cost me ....over $1000 or something. But on WP, I could do it all myself.

So I've been flatout the last couple of weeks building my new WordPress blog. I'm sorry for confusing people! I did say "new Wordpress blog" :-)

Rachel, that would be great if you could look.

Jane of CH, that's interesting that you have to log in to my Blogger Blog. I've never had to log into blogs - that's why I'm confused. Otherwise I'd just say "fair enough, people have to register a name and password the first time they visit and log in with them on subsequent visits". Do you visit me via elmsleyrose.blogspot.com rather than being a follower? That would explain it.

While we're on the subject, I won't have time to blog here (or embroider) while I'm working on the WordPress blog. In fact, I intend my next embroidery related post to be on the new blog!

I plan to revive the Grotesque Needlepainting post when I'm there. There was lots of reactions to that one, and I'd like to talk to y'all further. The new blog has threaded comments (children replies to main comments, so we can have 'discussion' leading from a particular comment). It has a few bells and whistles - that's why it's taking me awhile to implement.

Everything in this blog will be ported across, including all of my followers. I haven't a clue whether they will need to register with my blog or not. It won't be hard, whatever the solution is - just need to work out *what* the solution is.

*head* *desk* *knocks*

But it's be worth it! Trust the Elmsley.

New Post - WordPress Bloggers ..... Heeeeelp!

I think this may be the world's stupidest question. I've been reading The WordPress Codex. I've searched Google. There's no questions asking about this issue. It must be really obvious, and I'm just missing it.

My new WP blog seems to require a user to register with WordPress (ie create username and password) before they can make comments on my new blog. If a user goes to my blog, fills out a comment (with name and e-mail as required) they then get an "Error : Enter Password" on a new blank page.

Now, I read heaps of WP blogs, and have commented on them - but I was never registered with WordPress until a few weeks ago.

In my Dashboard "Users must be registered and logged in to comment" is not ticked in Settings/General Settings/Discussion. "Anyone Can Comment" is selected in ...where ever that setting is.

There are lots of fancy log in plugins offered, but I don't remember even needing to "log in" to any blog!

I've left this question on the WordPress Forum, but there's been 2 pages of questions since I asked mine 5 hours ago, so I thought I'd turn to the brain power of embroiderers!

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ElmsleyRose/~3/ojpi8xqnNZI/new-post-wordpress-bloggers-heeeeelp.html" title="New Post - WordPress Bloggers .....
