A night at the Coogee Bay Hotel comes with a fresh new interior & free sustainable amenities.

The iconic Coogee Bay Hotel describes its Bay and Beach rooms as “exceptionally comfortable” and “contemporary” after undergoing extensive renovation.

Guests will be “wowed” by the changes completed this week, which were designed to brighten accommodation while offering a modern-beachside aesthetic.

Among the in-room changes are the new rock ‘n’ roll-influenced large-scale photos that pay homage to the hotel’s rich history, and a sea-inspired colour palette.

Bay and Beach rooms also come with a new in-room dining menu, free high-speed Wi-Fi, and the complimentary mini-bar.

Even more exciting is the addition of Eloura Australia amenities, which for those out of the loop, is a completely sustainable Indigenous brand made up of hair and skin products.

“We are excited to be investing in a new and innovative hotel offering, welcoming guests while reinvigorating Coogee as a destination for leisure and corporate travellers,” General Manager Accommodation & Sales, Kun Rahadian said.

“Renovating the hotel both physically and with upgraded in-room offerings, we plan on delivering extraordinary guest experiences each and every time and are looking forward to re-introducing ourselves to new and existing guests.”

In addition to the refurbished rooms, the hotel has upgraded its foyer and is planning to renew its 51 Boutique Rooms in the coming months.

When checking into a hotel on a day when Sydney clocks 43 degrees Celsius, the first thing you’re going to look for is a pool. That’s exactly what I did upon entering Marsden Hotel in Sydney’s Burwood, when the temperature outside was unbearable and the only option was submerging myself entirely underwater.

But a rooftop dip overlooking Sydney’s skyline isn’t the only drawcard for a stay at Marsden — although the piña colada I drank while poolside certainly helps make the case. For travellers visiting family in Western Sydney or those who are looking for a luxury stay outside of the city circle, this newest opening will do the trick.

Sitting on a main street of Burwood, walking distance to buses and trains into the city, Marsden isn’t trying to be anything it isn’t. Guests are warmly welcomed, rooms are clean and modern, and the hotel is located close to plenty of shops and some of Western Sydney’s best food. It’s understated luxury, and for the price, proves a stellar option for returning visitors to Sydney who want to escape the CBD.

Perhaps the most exciting element of the hotel is its dining options. Onyx Grill is a welcome new addition to the Burwood dining scene. With a focus on woodfired meats and seafood, the menu is made for sharing. Paired with plenty of sides and a drop of wine (the list is curated and impressive), it’s a restaurant that will delight guests and locals alike. With the addition of a few more vegetarian mains, Onyx is one of the region’s better places for a night out.

In the morning, head to Artisaint, the hotel’s adjoining bakery and café. With a mix of quality breakfast staples (like fluffy omelettes or eggs on toast) as well as more indulgent options, like croque monsieur toasties, the kitchen is a strong offering for the neighbourhood and for hotel breakfasts more generally. However, the hero of the café is its pastries, which are made fresh on site every morning. Croissants are melt-in-your-mouth good, perfectly flaky and best eaten with lashings of butter and strawberry jam.

While Marsden’s Burwood location might not be an obvious choice for tourists, the hotel fills a much-needed gap in the market for those wanting to be near loved ones, close to public transport and in the heart of the Sydney suburbs.

At this Penang hotel, rooms inspired by innovative designs create energising space for guests.

As a regular visitor to Penang – my birthplace – I am familiar with the various new hotels popping up all over the Pearl of the Orient. But the one establishment I keep going back to is G Hotel Kelawai.

Described as “style redefined”, it is where iconic design and cutting edge lifestyle set the stage for extraordinary experiences. Over a recent weekend stay, I re-discovered how the rooms are inspired by innovative design to create energising space for guests to work or play by day or mix and mingle by night.

Overall, there is a total of 208 rooms namely 35 units of Executive Room (measuring 36sqm), 28 units of Executive Premier (49sqm), 143 Deluxe Rooms (36sqm) and two units of Premier Suite (86sqm).

The rooms aim to personify an opulence that is bespoke from its clean architecture, to its interior design and even the thread count in the sheets. Staying in the Executive Premier for two blissful nights, I felt right at home.

Every room comes with Serta Royal Platinum Mattresses, Herman Miller designer work chairs, 55- inch smart HD LED TV, 300 thread count linens, alarm clock, ironing facilities, free non-alcoholic minibar and high speed WiFi in all rooms and throughout the hotel.

Also noteworthy is that the bathrooms come with eco-friendly Eloura toiletries, imported exclusively from Australia. The formula is free from parabens, mineral oils, animal testing and animal ingredients. The products combine Australia’s finest certified organic essentials oils with scientifically proven skincare technology.

As for the executive floor benefits, guests will be spoiled with complimentary shoe shine service, local city calls, call forwarding service, usage of DVD player and coffee machine and access to Executive Lounge for personalised check-in and check-out, buffet breakfast and evening cocktails at the 24th floor.

Also, to make your stay better, G Hotel Kelawai offers a fully equipped gymnasium and business centre. The 24-hour gymnasium allows you to work out using state-of-theart fitness equipment.

For those who have the love for water – like yours truly – the infinity pool on the 24th floor gives you a chance to take in what Penang has to offer while having a dip. Fathom in the picturesque view when you go for a swim as there is a 360° view of the island including the view of the iconic Penang Bridge.

At the same time, the guest can enjoy a night out with drinks to match and view that intoxicate at the rooftop bar called Gravity. Here, one can dance to the coolest tunes, sip on the newest mixes and party the night away.

Excite and awaken your senses at SPOON, reminiscent of a French Bistro which is positioned strategically to capture the n panoramic mountain top scenery. It takes pride in serving eight types of freshly baked French bread daily which are a Soft Roll, Multigrain Roll, Wholemeal Roll, Chocolate Bread, Farmer’s Bread, French Baguette, Muesli Bread and French Village Bread. Meanwhile, the 2PM lounge is a spot that appeals to the sophisticated. Whether it is a chatter over a glass of wine or champagne to loosen the edge off after a long day, 2PM is stylishly defined.

The hotel also offer function rooms named as Forum II – VI, which can accommodate a variety of group sizes, from small intimate meeting groups to medium-sized conferences and even transform into comfortable spaces holding up to 100 seating capacity for a wedding celebration.

Last but certainly not least, there is the hotel lobby. Sleek and chic yet cosy with intimate touches, the lobby is all about style redefined. Step right into designer furnishing with Italian made Baxter Chester Moon Sofa. Designed by Paola Navone, Chester Moon features the finest hand-quilted upholstery in an exclusive capitonne pattern, where the leather is painstakingly drawn together creating an elegant feature.

Thus far, G Hotel Kelawai has won over 50 awards since its opening in 2015, including the Best Design Hotel by Haute Grandeur, Best Hotel for FIABCI Malaysia Property Awards, Best Luxury Lifestyle Hotel Worldwide – Hotel of the Year Awards and Luxury Contemporary Hotel of the year by the Luxury Travel Guide.
