Meet Bran

A month ago you met Arya our lovely kitty.

Two weeks after she was home with us, her brother hypnotised Mon Cher and I to bring him with us. We were afraid that they wouldn't recognise each other, and it seem for a while they didn't. For about 30mins they smelled one another and hissed away, but then they remember how closed they were and started playing (this is what I told myself of course.)

We had to name him Bran of course (and the last of them was named Sansa and it's happy living with the in laws), and he is a handsome fella.

In 3 weeks we've learned that unlike Arya he will come to you for petting and love (you can pick Arya at any random moment and she loves it). He goes crazy when I brush his face away. He grooms Mon Cher's beard like it's his own child. Also gets his ass kicked by Arya quite often.

Arya was pretty excited about a box we set them up. She would go inside and study her brother from it.

These two really love each other. I even made them an Instagram account so you can see updated pictures of both of them (yes, borderline crazy cat lady stuff I know), go to http://instagram.com/branaryathecats and follow them.

Vegetable Garden starters

These are the plants I bought at the local farmers market to start my green garden. I must have these in pots, and transfer some of them into bigger pots because I'll be doing this in my balcony. It would be awesome to have a bigger space but I know I can work with the balcony, so here they are when I bought them.

It's been a month since we took these pictures so I'll be posting new pictures soon.

I've already used mint from this one to add to my home brews of Kombucha.

I used oregano for a homemade tomato salsa and it was very flavourful.

I love this plant so much! It's a creeper or vine which is why I'm in love and it's growing by the day. Already used also for tofu omelettes.

These have a citrus flavor when they are young and crisp and I eat them raw in salads.

I haven't have the pleasure to eat and eggplant yet, I'll have to wait a bit more.

This one it's starting to bloom with flowers, and I'm watching closely cause the female flowers are the one that gives the cucumbers.

So here you have my starters, next I want to add tomato and cacao.

I want to have a garden full of edibles.

Have I mentioned how much I love going to our local farmers market? If I haven't, I love it a lot.

This is what I wore, I was feeling a bit pin up.

These sailor style pants are the best.

Have you spotted Arya's sister? We named her Sansa, and she wanted to be in the pictures.

It was a fun day.

I got to pick up delicious organic goods and plants for my vegetable garden.

I got organic red okra, it was the first time I saw these in the market.

This is organic dinosaur kale, which is my favorite type of kale, because is crisp and it's great for kale chips.

Meet: Crush Juice Bar

Ever since Mon Cher and I moved we started exercising, specially around the shore, what it's known as Condado. It's a very busy area full of hotels and tourists. We saw many new places since we last strolled around that area and that's when we saw Crush.

Fast forward to last Sunday when we actually got in.

They have a variety of combinations for fruit smoothies, you can also combine fruits and veggies for juices, they have açai bowls and plenty of trendy healthy stuff to choose from.

We decided to order two different smoothies so we could both try each one.

Mon Cher wanted something refreshing so he ordered the Healthy Piña Colada which contains: Apple juice, pineapple, coconut milk, organic shredded coconut, avocado, flax seed and a touch of organic agave.**

I saw peanut butter in one mix and was drawn to it. I must say Mon Cher hates PB and when he try it he said it had weird yet very pleasing flavor. Mine was called Peanut butter pink banana which contains: Strawberries, banana, peanut butter, almond milk, yogurt and organic agave.**

I change the yogurt for cacao nibs which was a nice touch.

The pros about this place was that the taste was achieved and they have good combinations and healthy options.
The cons is that not everything is organic which I favor, but not everything is perfect.

Depending on your view you may think is pricey, but I don't consider this true, first because is a tourist are which usually mean higher prices and second because some of the ingredients they use are not cheap.

In the end I will go again, I have my eyes on two more smoothies I want to try.

Coffeeholic: Siphone coffee maker

If there's something I always obsess about is coffee.

I love siphon brewers, they're appealing to the eye and have a scientific feel.

I was at Gustos Coffee [a favorite among our local coffee shops] and the baristas were playing with the temperature of the water and different weights of coffee to see how the coffee turned out.

I filmed a bit of the process. If you've never seen one have fun!

Basics:
In a siphone you put the water in the base and by heating it under the water goes up through the filter. Once it goes up you stir it with the coffee so it will blend better. Then it goes back down again through the filter leaving the ground coffee and giving you a delicious brew.

Meet Arya

Ever since we started thinking about living in our new apartment we knew we wanted a cat. We wanted a furr ball to run around the house, hunt for mouses and be cute enough for pictures (and bully you by deleting the last phrase you wrote because walking on the keyboard of my laptop seems like the new hobby for Arya.)

Anyway...

We knew one thing we couldn't take our other cats. Why? Well on my mother's house they run wild and have lots of space and they grew like that. Gingy would feel like this is a cage even though is a big apartment. she wouldn't have the grass or trees that are in that house. Vali (Mon cher's) is a spoiled princess and her slave is my father-in-law, if you saw that relationship you wouldn't want to break it.

Then Arya came along.

My brother-in-law rescued her. She and her brothers were inside a sewer at the airport were he works. Her brother came out crying for his mom, and that's when my BiL saw it and found the other 2. They were a couple of days old.

Apparently earlier that week a brigade came to take away all the cats that were around the area and we assumed they took the mom, because the cats were starving.

For the past month we had to feed them with bottles. Since then they have learned to eat on their own, and use the litter box. The other 2 are now waiting to find another home or they might just stay there.

Arya is a month and a half old. She's like babies at their terrible 2. She jumps everywhere and plays a lot. Another thing I love about her is the fact that she is very loving, she loves to cuddle and if we are showing her love she purrs a lot.

We finally moved!

We did it!

After all these months of hard work to make our place lovely and liveable, we are finally enjoying our apartment.

Our [messy] living room on day 2 of moving days.

Mon Cher was using one of my aprons and we've been busy in the kitchen.

We celebrated 4 years of being together [April 2] with a sushi date. I made veggie rolls and we drank some wine.

We even have a house motto "We are allowed to fail but we are not allowed to give up."

Our friends left messages on our chalk wall.

I did the coffee mug of course.

Tintero: Local's comics and art festival

Last Saturday Mon cher and I wen to Tintero. It was the first comic and art festival with local artists.

We had a great time, the variety of artists was great and pleasing to the eye.

The space was a bit crowded but everyone was enjoying themselves.

We saw many lovely things, and bought some of them to hang around our new place. You'll see them soon.

It was a good break from our daily routine or new apartment stuff. We'll be back for more next year...

House improvement: The little things

It's been almost 2 months since the last update, and we've been working on the whole apartment like maniacs.

I thought I would've been living there by now, yet April seems more realistic.

Here are some of the things I've been doing.

My new name? Lou the builder.

I installed this door knob.

I also put all these new.

We tried our chalk wall. Which is great and fun. A friend came by and left a message also.

House improvement: Kitchen Pt.2

Day #10: We finally start to paint.
(Lies on day #9 Mon Cher did the first kitchen wall but I wasn't there, due to work, so no pictures to prove it happened.)

On the 10th day of improvements everything looked refreshed and I know it's going to be cozy.

We started the cabinet project. Since we are painting the walls of the kitchen we took some cabinets out, and because they were outside we started working on their tops.

We bought this paint, because the top was laminated, and I hated the fake marbled design it had.

See the ugly?

This color was a hit. If everything in my mind comes alive this kitchen will be purrfect.

We also finished the beloved chalk wall for the kitchen. This is the wall that divides the kitchen from the living room, and since it's small but tall I knew it was the perfect place to put chalkboard paint.

As you can see I photoshopped examples of chalk on it. We went for a charcoal gray instead of black and I love it.

Sadly I can't start writing on it until tomorrow, so it will properly dry.

Next on the agenda was covering the opposite wall of the kitchen with the same color for the dinning room.

This is the plan, the DR is right across from the kitchen so it will function as an extension, we are currently working on a DIY kitchen island that will be in the DR. We bought wheels for the island, but it's stationary place will be there. With this in mind both places will have the same color patterns and wall painting.

Imagine this is the kitchen. That same wall at the end is the one we painted in the kitchen. I have pictures, but since there is a window in that wall the opposing light makes it horrible.

See?

We are in love with that color.

Next you'll see what happened on day #11 and I will do a whole post dedicated to the process of the DIY kitchen island.

Oufits: Brunch

Last Sunday I went brunching with Mon Cher.

Brunch is my new favorite meal.

We should brunch all week long.

It was my first time using the blue creepers I recently bought. They are very comfortable and I just love the hue.

I was happy we finally had a day off to rest. We took the whole weekend off, and yesterday we workeded day #9 of home improvement, tomorrow we'll keep working.

I must admit I'm so happy about how the kitten is coming along.

Let's start with the beginning.

Our new apartment was closed since 2010. So it was beyond dirty.

Since the first time we opened the door we've worked for 7 days, not consecutive, but tons of work on each of them.

It's finally time to paint and start making it more cozy for us.

We decided to start with the kitchen.

First in line was the ceiling. Brand new white to stare at.

Next: Countertop, walls and inside of cabinets.

Also a little bit of joking while we clean, gotta make hard work fun.

Also proud of him he got an award for being the best in his class. That thing is super heavy!

Dancing in the dark

It's been almost 3 weeks since I had so many good memories dancing with me.

I went to this event of my beloved local goth scene and while we were a small group of the old timers it was great.

I danced.

I saw people who I miss spending time with.

It was pure bliss.

I met a local band called La Morgue and they were fun to listen to.

For some reason I have a record with this girl on pictures were I laugh so hard I look like that. I love her.

On another note, is it really 8 days till christmas? Oh my!

Barista Manifesto

As you guys know I'm not a huge fan of coffee; I'm just plain addicted.

The same thing goes for what I'm sharing with you guys today; Portlandia.

Previously I shared a sketch from the same show in another coffee post For the love of java!

This time I want to share another sketch related to coffee which I love.

It's called the barista manifesto.

I think is is hilarious because I've been in both sides of the story, barista and customer, and as a barista the things mentioned in the sketch are legit.

This got me thinking of a video I've always wanted to film about love and hate at the coffee shops, maybe I'll do it.

Summer Vacation

My summer was lonely. A good part of it was the fact that Mon Cher had a whole month free and he came to visit.

As you guys know we love doing our anual road trip to Rincón, here are some pictures from our adventure.

It was our first time staying at this resort.

A shameful selfie before going on a dinner date.

At the restaurant they were very helpful with my food specifications and we had a kick ass dinner.

Mon Cher was the mustache soldier.

The beach was beautiful.

We were enjoying ourselves as much as possible.

This trip was worth the waiting.

Winter is coming (lol GOT) and I will be flying to the states to see my lovely grandmother.

I can't wait for the thrift stores and the farmers markets!

November Vegan Conscious Box

On October I signed up for the vegan conscious box and I loved it. I made a video for the youtube channel showing the contents of the box.

They are a subscription service that sends eco friendly products some are trial size, some aren't. They have a vegan version which is the one I've subscribe to and I must say I'm glad I did.

I remember when I received it I was running like a little kid, since I had no idea what was on the box, it's surprise, they send you a list afterward so you can get to know the brands. Each month they have a curator, this month was Jason Wrobel from the J-Wro show on youtube.
