Dear Elsa Network. ELSA Ostroh is happy to invite you to our International Seminar on Patient’s Rights.

Health law is the branch of law which concerns the prerogatives and responsibilities of medical professionals and the rights of the patient. We focused on this topic, because it is a big issue in post soviet countries as well as throughout the world and we do not get much information on it in our universities. As a heritage we have a bureaucracy in medical field which is extremely unacceptable, because we are talking about human lives. Its should be a duty of today’s leaders to not only build the structure and establish the procedures that will constitute the health law and legal medicine of tomorrow, but also to respect humanity and to advance human rights.

ELSA for Children: Call for National Researchers and Academic Advisors

We have the pleasure of opening the application procedure for National Researchers and Academic Advisors of the ELSA for Children Legal Research Group.

The ELSA for Children is the biggest research project in cooperation with the Council of Europe on Children’s Rights – the ELSA for Children Legal Research Group (EfC). The EfC project will become a collection of country reports analysing the state of legislation in the area of Children’s Rights in each member country. Hence, this project will primarily require an enthusiastic approach and consistent work on the part of National Groups.

The researchers from 42 member counties are expected to dwell upon the various aspects of the main issue of sexual violence against children. The wide scale of this project is approved with the strong support from the Council of Europe and specially our Marraine - The Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Ms. Maud de Boer-Buquicchio.

Each National Research Group will address these questions:

The ELSA for Children LRG will approach the issue of protection of child victims from sexual violence in the national legal framework. Each national team should first investigate what research is already available and what research is underway for instance in the respective Ministry of Legal Affairs in preparation to pave the way for the ratification of the Lanzarote Convention. This approach would provide information on what kind of measures of protection of child victims and perpetrators are and should be in place and how the legislation should be or has been amended. The research will also investigate what monitoring and complaints mechanisms are or will be in place. The researchers will be provided with developed Academic Framework guidelines.

The national teams will aim at providing academic research results in the legal field which are comparable on the European level providing more information where each of the countries and Council of Europe member states stand in the process of ratification and implementation of the Lanzarote Convention.

Do you want to join the National Research Group in your country as National Researcher or Academic Advisor? Do you want to know more about tasks? Is there National Coordinator in country? –Apply now! Visit www.elsa.org/projects/elsaforchildren/participation Not enough - contact International Coordination Committee at EfC(at)elsa.org.

DEADLINE for submitting your application form is 6th of April!

All members involved in the LRG will be acknowledged by name. All contributors will receive a certificate which confirms their involvement in the project.

ELSA Rotterdam proudly presents the second summer law school with the title: ‘International Law and Arab Spring!’ The 17th of December is the day it all started. A man in Tunisia burned himself to death in protest at his treatment by the police. This incident was the cause of huge protests in almost every Arabic country and turned out in a revolution. In one year there have been some drastic changes but this revolution still is not finished. We have all followed the news, but do we really know what happened? What the effects and consequences are?

If you participate in this summer law school you will get to know more about the Arab Spring. More than you know by seeing the news and reading the newspapers. Different experts will lecture about this revolution from different perspectives. We’ll also discuss one of our most important questions: what part do International Law, human rights and the Western countries play in this revolution?

You will not only learn a lot during this summer law school, we also promise you a good time that you’ll never forget! Every day we offer you a fantastic social program. Also we will organize sightseeing’s so that you will see more of Rotterdam, Amsterdam and the Hague.

If you decide to participate in our summer law school you will definitely have a great summer, learn more about International Law and explore another culture.

We are looking forward to seeing you this summer in Rotterdam!

Sports law: Exploring a fascinating and transversal subject. Discover how Sports Law is involved in so many areas of law and how it incresingly affects European and International Law.

Themes will be aimed at promoting a European Law aspect:

Labour Law – freedom of sportspeople to enter into contracts, to be protected from abusive treatment by employers concerning salaries, transfers, sponsorship, etc.

Arbitration and Mediation: 'Courts' specifically designed to deal with sporting issues and developped to accommodate its particularities concerning the need for quick decisions, consideration of a tolerance of violence in sporting events, etc.

Intellectual Property Law: Trademarks, image rights of sportspersons and team, rights to their name and information.

Human Rights and Fundamental rights: Use of teams' and sportspersons' information on betting sites, free movement of persons, liberty to enter into contracts, right to a private life, protection of minors under sporting contracts, etc.

Sports Agents: their rights in negociations between parties, their obligations, agents dealing in different countries with different laws concerning transfers, etc. and more … ALL in relation to a business that can no longer be ignored and needs to be regulated in law.
IFP Joint Research Project: ELSA & IPSF - Call for Researchers

The International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) and the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) are working together with the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) on a joint research project related to Health Law. With this project, members of both associations will be able to make a joint research project on the topic:

“Competition Law and Pharmacy Law: How they integrate with each other and how they clash?”

The main part of the project is taking place in the headquarters of FIP (International Pharmaceutical Federation) in The Hague, The Netherlands, under the supervision of the FIP professionals. ELSA and IPSF have already selected the main researchers, who should have been sent in The Hague for the submission of a final resolution paper. However due to some technical reasons ELSA Main Researcher did not manage to execute his tasks as a main researcher from ELSA’s side.

Because of this ELSA International is issuing a new call in order to replace the current Researcher of ELSA and keep the continuity of the project and extend the deadline for the national researchers because of lack of applications.

We are with this call looking for participants for both types of researchers:

·       One student who is interested in the position as the Main Researcher of the project from ELSA;

Download the application form here.

· Several students from around the Network who are interested in being selected as National Researchers of the project from ELSA from each country

Download the application form here.

Conditions and Specifications:

The Main Researcher will move to The Hague to carry out the research and co-ordinate the overall workflow in close co-operation with FIP Professionals. The successful applicant will not be financially remunerated by ELSA, IPSF or FIP. Applicants are responsible for their own travel and living expenses. However, the accommodation will be provided. The Main Researchers will submit the final report and present it through our different events. The main Researcher will move to The Hague from the second week of January, 2012 until March, 2012 before the final report will be presented.

However, the National Researchers will conduct the research from their own countries. Research topics will be negotiated together with the Main Researcher of ELSA and IPSF. The National Researchers will be working on the project between January, 2012 and April, 2012.

The academic results will be published on the websites of the parties involved and will serve as an interdisciplinary source of information for academic purposes. The paper will also be presented in the following conferences: IPSF Congress, FIP Congress, ELSA IFP Mid-Evaluation Conference in Trieste, Italy and International Council Meeting of ELSA in Batumi, Georgia.

Selection criteria for both applicants:

·  Completed at least two years of law studies;

·  Interested in Pharmacy and Competition Law;

·  Good working knowledge in English especially in writing;

·  Possess good analytical, methodical and writing skills;

· Experience in research or statistics preferred.

Complete application forms must be submitted electronically to the VP STEP of ELSA International (vpstep@elsa.org ) no later than 23:59 (CET) on the 20th of December, 2011.

ELSA International encourages the National Groups to take part in this Joint Research Project! This Project with its academic background broadens the scientific scope of our Association.

We are looking forward to seeing your active steps taken towards the Joint Research Project between ELSA & IPSF.

ELSA Copenhagen is proud to be hosting it's annual summer seminar with the tittle, ”Energy Law and Sustainability”.

The main point of the seminar will be the fact that the EU is becoming more dependent on the import of fossile fuel, and that CO2 levels are constantly increasing. As a result of this, it is necessary to develop new and sustainable energy sources to maintain the energy source integrity of the EU. Based on this perspective, we are primarily going to focus on the EU regulatory matters of the area.

The purpose of the seminar is to inform about the present situation regarding the area on energy regulation and the exploration of sustainable energy sources. Who decides the agenda? How is the responsibility divided between government and the energy sector? What is the current situation, and what is the main objective for the future? How is the environment secured against extraction of the non-sustainable oil and gas? What trade regulations are being introduced to protect the environment? What are CO2 emission quotas, and how does the concept function?

The seminar will in addition to the professional part also be offering a number of social events, the purpose of which is to give some variation during the day. The purpose is also meant to give the opportunity to get to know each other across all the different countries. There will be a number of tours around our beautiful city, and also visits to businesses that are relevant to the subject of the seminar.

Furthermore there will be a gala party by the end of the week.

We are looking forward to see you in our beautiful city!
