Skype + telyHD = high res video chat

Skype and telyHD are now working together to bring HD video chat to a screen near you – 720p HD, no less!

Looks a bit like Kinect, and allows the sending of photos during chat also. Do you want one? Or would you rather apply your make-up first before someone sees you in HD?

Cake or death?

Microsoft has baked a cake to celebrate the slow-but-soon-to-be-over demise of IE6, which now holds a market share of less than 1% in the US, and just 1.4% in the UK.

Due to various security issues, web standards problems and other flaws, Microsoft wants users to move to at least IE8.

Minecraft and Lego – together forever?

What’s that thing called where you can build whatever you want out of little square blocks? You know, you can make houses and cars and boats and people and faces and trees and and and….

If you said, “Lego”, you’d be right. If you said, “Minecraft”, you’d be right.

Lego have a site named CUUSOO, designed for people to submit ideas for new Lego sets – and the Minecraft suggestion is gathering pace, no doubt helped in part by the similarity between Lego and Minecraft.

“But why turn a computer game in to Lego? Surely that’s silly!”, I hear you saying. Not if you play Halo, for example.

The idea has been submitted at least twice to CUUSOO – once by Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, and once by a fan.

You have to wonder if there will be faithful Lego replicas of zombies, Creepers and Endermen. And can the spiders be made of something bouncy?

A percentage of the profit from selling the Minecraft Lego sets will be donated to charity, so not only will you get to play with Lego again, you can feel good about “doing your bit” as well!

The only downside is that, unlike Minecraft the game, you can still get bits of Lego stuck in your foot as you walk round the house…

Angry Birds. Everywhere.

It’s official – Angry Birds is now available on Windows phone. Squish, crush, bash and blow up as many pigs as you can, now with added Microsoft goodness.

Possibly the most ubiquitous game ever, Angry Birds is now available on iPhone, Android phones and tablets, iPad, in a browser, Microsoft phones, soon as a board game….and probably on C64 and ZX81. Although we can’t confirm the last two.

Facebook to Launch Video Chat?

Facebook is set to make a big announcement soon – but no-one is quite sure what it is. The biggest rumour in circulation at the moment is in-browser video chat, built in association with Skype – however, other rumours include a mobile app platform based on HTML5, known as Project Spartan.

We will find out for sure in around a few hours time – the Facebook Product Announcement is scheduled for 6pm GMT / 10am PST / 1pm EST.

EMBITS would like to see two new buttons – a “Dislike” button for obvious reasons, and a “Shut Up” button for those annoying friends. Really, we don’t need to know every time you eat. Or break up with your girlfriend. Or are sat on the toilet Facebooking with your iPhone. It’s a dirty habit and you don’t need to publicise it.
