“If you want to emigrate Australia is the place to go”. This is so true for many thousands of migrants every year and for over 200 years new inhabitants have been flocking to the golden shores of Australia. Admittedly, the first of those inhabitants were somewhat less than willing migrants having been “Prisoners of His Majesty” sent to the new penal colony of Australia by a British legal system at the end of the 18thCentury.

Australia is Calling

However, much has changed since those early days of the westernisation of Australia. Today, there are thousands of “new Australians” from many different countries, not just from the traditional countries such as the UK and Ireland. The greatest numbers of immigrants have come from Italy and Greece who have settled most notably in Melbourne, where there now exists the largest Greek community outside of Athens.

These immigrants have changed the face of Australia during the past 50 years and have turned many of the country’s metropolitan regions into the thriving and dynamic cosmopolitan areas that they now are. They have contributed to their new home by broadening the Australian lifestyle, bringing with them their own cultures and renowned international cuisines.

Emigrate Australia with Your In-Demand Skill

But even though there has been a huge increase in the numbers that emigrate Australia is still calling for more new inhabitants, being a vast country with a population of just 21 million, and with an economy that is growing at above average rates of growth. Skilled migrants are very much in demand and for those who want to emigrate Australia offers a visa application process that is both fair and efficient. Having said that, the process can often be complex, sometimes confusing and invariably time-consuming but with the right sort of professional assistance, from one of the many registered Australian migration agents, it will give you what you are looking for – an Australian residency visa.

Once you emigrate Australia will be very welcoming to you, but to succeed in your visa application you need to be fully prepared. Make sure you have all your paper work in order, such as birth and marriage certificates, all identity documents including valid passports, evidence of academic qualifications and work experience and lots more besides that are likely not to become apparent until the application process begins!

Make sure you know which visa is best for you to apply for. There are so many varieties that some expert help will be needed here as to find that you fail on a technicality halfway through your application process will be both heartbreaking and expensive.

On a practical level, carry out plenty of research on Australia before you start and look at the areas in which you may want to live because all of the major cities offer a different type of lifestyle experience. In particular, be sure that the climate of the location that you will be living in is suitable for you. If you are from Greenland for example, then starting out in the 45 degree heat of Darwin may not be a good idea.

Whatever you decide, one of the most important things is to be flexible in your approach. You may have to give up some of the things that you have always taken for granted in your previous life but there will be plenty to compensate for these in your new country of choice. Remember, if you have decided to emigrate Australia is calling and will welcome you with open arms!

Skilled Migration Australia Visas

There are a huge number of different Australian visas that you can apply for including the skilled migration Australia visa which is one of the most popular. So, before you begin your application, you need to be sure that you are applying for the most appropriate one for your particular circumstances. This will mean doing a lot of research and preparation beforehand. As far as the skilled migration Australia visa is concerned, what will you need to know?

The Twelve Apostles, Vic

Speaking to a registered Australian migration agent is always one of the best first steps that you can take. With their wealth of experience they will be able to lead you in the right direction and give you an idea of the cost to you and the timeframe you are likely to be looking at in order to secure your visa (you should expect the process to take between 6 to 12 months from start to finish). Using an agent is a good idea as the skilled migrant Australia visa is subject to the points allocation system in which you need to secure a certain number of points in order to get the visa and a further complication is that it is separated into three categories, these being independent, sponsored and regional sponsored visas.

Skilled Migration Australia – What Trades are Acceptable?

In general terms, however, the types of applicants for whom such a visa would be most appropriate would be those with a skilled trade such as electricians, plumbers, builders, even hairdressers or those who are trained in a profession such as medicine or the law or are in middle or senior management, IT or finance. But bear in mind that there are many other careers and trades that are equally as acceptable. There is an official Australian Skilled Occupation List detailing all the occupations that are needed in Australia and some occupations on this list are currently in such demand that applicants with such skills will be awarded additional points.

To start your application you will need to apply for your skilled migration Australia visa by lodging an official application form with the Department of Immigration and Culture at which point an application fee will be payable. Whilst the whole process of visa application may seem extremely daunting at the outset as well as highly time consuming please remember that if you have a skilled trade the chances are that it is one of the skills that is in demand by the Australian government. Provided you are able to satisfy the other requirements of the application, your efforts to secure a skilled migration Australia visa are likely to be rewarded.

Many people today are asking the same question – Should I Emigrate to Australia?

It is a question that has already been asked and answered a million times before. Let me give you a brief summary as to why for so many, the answer has been a resounding “Yes”.

Life in Western Australia

Australia is a highly desirable country. The quality of life that you can achieve is very high, with extremely good levels of health care and education. Add to this a strong economy, even through the recent economic downturn, a climate to be envied and some of the most easy-going inhabitants in the world and you have a unique country that has would-be emigrants beating a path to its door.

For anyone who loves sport, the decision to emigrate to Australia is not difficult. It is a great place to be because sport plays an important part in Australian culture. Outdoor activities are the norm here and the country boasts many world class sporting events, such as Australian Open golf, international tennis and grand prix motor racing to name just a few. Of course, cricket, rugby, soccer, swimming, cycling and athletics are all commonly participated in by Australians at local and international level.

It is a hardworking but at the same time, a laid-back and easy-going place to live where the traditional concept of “mateship” extends especially to the “new Australians” who have made the choice to emigrate to Australia. As someone who has gone through the entire process of Australian permanent residency application, and having set up home in the country, I never cease to wonder at the friendly, helpful attitude of the average Aussie.

What Do You Need To Do To Emigrate to Australia?

So for those of you won over by the prospect of making this great country your new home and who have made the decision to emigrate to Australia, what do you need to do? Inevitably, the competition for permanent residency visas for new immigrants can be high. Achieving permanent residency status is often tricky and will require a great deal of research, preparation, hard work and extensive form-filling, in addition to the cost of the application process, to ensure that the outcome is positive.

But for those determined to emigrate to Australia for a great new life the rewards are well worthwhile. So even though the application process can be time consuming and always frustrating, don’t give up because Australia is waiting for you.

The Australian Point System and Visa Applications

The Australian point system utilised by the Australian government in its immigration process is used to determine which applicants are eligible for a residency visa. Skilled migrants, wishing to live and work in Australia, are assessed based upon this point system, with points awarded for various aspects including work experience, qualifications and language proficiency.

An Australian Icon

The skilled immigration programme does not, under the Australian point system currently in use, have a universal set of points to serve as a qualifying mark. Instead the pass mark varies between 110 and 120 points and this depends on the type of skilled immigration visa that is being applied for. Furthermore, the Australian authorities keep in reserve a pool of applicants whose scores are lower than the required but above 70 points. These reserve pool applicants can be used to ensure that the required immigration quotas are maintained whenever the numbers of “passing” applicants are insufficient.

In addition to meeting the required number of points the applicant must also meet requirements in terms of health, character, age, education, work experience and basic English language proficiency.

An applicant will always have to undergo a medical examination prior to the approval of a visa. Furthermore, an applicant must be under 45 to qualify for a skilled migration visa, although there are other visas available for those who have exceeded this age. The Australian point system allocated between 15 and 30 points based on age with the number reducing the nearer an applicant is to the 45 year age limit.

The Australian skilled occupation list is extensive. The Australian point system allocates between 40 and 60 points according to the skilled occupation and each applicant must have an occupation that appears on the skilled occupation list and have the necessary work experience in that occupation. Between 5 and 10 points are allocated for the type of work experience and more points are available if the occupation is on the government’s Migration Occupations in Demand List.

There are also points awarded according to the applicant’s involvement in Australia and ability to adapt. Five points can be allocated to an applicant for residing in a designated region or low population growth metropolitan area. Further points are awarded for other attributes; these include providing a minimum Aus$100,000 capital investment in Australia, having previously had a certain amount of work experience within the previous 4 years, being fluent in one of Australia’s community language, other than English or having already received educational training in Australia.

In addition, the ability to speak the English language is also well rewarded. Whilst competency in the English language will earn points, the highest number of points will be awarded to those who are native speakers.

What makes the entire visa application process more complex is that the rules regarding the Australian point system never seem to remain constant for any considerable length of time. For this reason alone, utilising the services of a registered migration consultant to assist in the residency visa application process is highly worthwhile.

If you’re considering emigration Australia could give you everything you are looking for. Geographically, it offers unequalled experiences and a wealth of diversity. Its 18,000km coastline boasts everything from the world’s best coral reefs to endless white sandy bays and buzzing surf beaches. The massive interior includes vast red deserts, snow-topped mountains and lush green vineyards. It provides an outdoor lifestyle that can be as active or as laidback as you wish.

Sydney Harbour

Lifestyle and Opportunity

Australia’s cities are amongst the most exciting and interesting in the world. From the sophisticated cultural and arts centre that is Melbourne, to the exciting, dynamic but still laid back Sydney or to the small and colourful Darwin in the tropical northern tip of Australia, there is a city to suit every lifestyle requirement. If you plan to visit any of the major cities you will only make your desire for emigration Australia even greater.
