A musical comedy about the history of Cuba, this film combines cabaret style musical numbers, archive footage, graphics, and illustrations, in a bold attempt to tell the entire history of Cuba in 20 minutes. History is combined with political satire in songs such as Welcome to Democracy and Requiem for Ché, and the use of archive footage in constructed newsreels and propaganda films presents an ironic look at a particular American perspective on Cuba.

Pastiche and satire combine with a commitment to film making as entertainment as well as education, to make what is not simply a history but a self-reflexive comment on the ways in which history and news are represented and manipulated in the press and media. Beautifully shot, on HDV cameras, the film draws on the naturally photogenic character of the East End of London, and a colourful and expressive multicultural East End community. The observational footage of the campaign and occupation period is interwoven with interviews from the participants to tell a story of resistance which is at the same time unique and universal.

This film follows an animated American peanut, who sings about the difficulties faced by nuts from developing countries. Supported by a mixture of animation, music, our American peanut takes the viewer through the stories of the cashew, brazil and ground nuts – all of whom suffer as world trade is liberalized. But it is a different story in America – where the peanut is protected by tariffs and heavily subsidized, and worth over four billion dollars a year to the American economy. Certainly the luckiest nut in the world. The film helps people to understand how the pressure to embrace ‘free market’ economics, with it’s promise of a wealthy, abundant market place has actually driven many countries further into poverty.

The response to the film has been amazing. After screening to over 1 million people on Channel 4, the film has been in numerous festivals, including, the One World Human Rights Film Festival in Prague, and taking Best Short Documentary at Full Frame. Christian Aid in the UK used the film and it’s characters in their “Trade Rules are Nuts, Let’s Crack’m!” campaign.

Britain’s first (and only!) satirical investigative current affairs series, in which the presenter and reporters were puppets, was made for Channel 4 in 2004. Each programme in ‘Don’t Worry’ investigates a major industry: oil, drugs, food and public relations. The series satirises the trend towards current affairs as entertainment: the cast of puppets believe every press release, they’re expert at missing the point and, they have lots of opinions – most of them uninformed and unconsciously conservative.

Watch as Charlie and his team of investigative puppets hit the road, fearlessly exposing the work of the doom-mongers, killjoys and trouble-makers trying to make you feel bad. From global warming to childhood obesity to human rights abuses, the Don’t Worry team finds that big business is always there with one clear message to concerned citizens: Don’t Worry.
