* sadly, Howard Stern never mentioned where the video came from. I wish he gave credit to the Boston Globe or Boston.com...but alas, no. He simply attributed the interview to "some chick with a hand-held camera."

Forty years ago, most American footwear was produced in the United States. Today, close to 99% of shoes and sneakers sold in the US are made overseas, mainly in China.

I made a mini-documentary about Alden Shoe, one of the few American footwear companies that still produces shoes in the US.

Bloodfeast rocked!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Bloodfeast on Saturday night!

I saw so many people who I wanted to say hi to and dance with...and then it seemed like...*boom*, the night was over, and I never got the chance to. The night went by too quickly.

Here's one of the many highlights of the evening. I shot this video from the DJ booth, during the amazing performance by [:angeldustrial:].

In this particular clip, you'll see Sarah shoving the guy who randomly wandered up on stage and rudely attempted to interrupt their show.

(You'll also hear me saying something like, "What the hell - who is that?" and see that I momentarily lost my steady hand, and accidentally panned away from the stage :-( ...and, as a result, I missed the moments when Bobby and Andy swiftly sprung into action and pulled the rude guy down to the floor.)

More videos to come. I'm going through the footage, and I'll be posting more soon....stay tuned.

Wheelchair softball

Last week I wrote a story about a nationally-ranked wheelchair softball team.... and then I interviewed two of the players on TV a few days ago. You can watch the video clip here.

The guys from the team have challenged the Globe newsroom to a wheelchair softball scrimmage. They said they'll lend us wheelchairs to use in the game. I'm recruiting my colleagues to play.....and hopefully we'll hold a little exhibition game in August.

I was contacted by a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Southern California, who said she had stumbled across my videoblog and liked one my clips. She thought it fit with one of the festival's themes: "Making the Familiar Unfamiliar: The Importance of Physical Place in the Vlogosphere."

Boston Media Makers

I attended my first Boston Media Makers meeting last weekend. And it was awesome.

It was great seeing so many fellow videobloggers and podcasters in person, and hearing about the projects they're working on. I arrived late, and could only stay for an hour and a half...but after the meeting, I had the opportunity to catch what I'd missed through everyone's blogs. Seriously, the coverage of the meeting was impressive: Bryan Person blogged about the meeting; Beth Kanter made a video; David Tames provided an excellent roundup of what was discussed; Chris Brogan snapped photos; Steve Garfield wrote up notes from the meeting......and I'm sure other attendees have blogged about it, too.

The BMM group meets the first Sunday of every month at Sweet Finnish in JP. T

My colleagues and I appeared in this documentary about the Boston mob...it's been released as a bonus feature on The Departed DVD (the two-disc special edition):

"Stranger than Fiction: The True Story of Whitey Bulger, Southie and the Departed", is a twenty-one minute featurette about the legendary gangster. You'll get input from Boston Globe reporters Kevin Cullen, Shelley Murphy, and Emily Sweeney, as well as retired Massachussetts State Police Major Tom Duffy, and Kevin Weeks, a former top lieutenant in Bulger's organization, and others who knew the man personally...
