Larry Williams Oops Pattern on Tuesday

Tuesday was a Larry Williams Oops pattern day – or Bullish Engulfing if you’re into Japanese Candlestick patterns. After Monday which was a No Supply and Spinning Top Doji pattern day.

Blah, blah, blah. We traders have a name (or two) for pretty much everything. Like the Eskimos and their snow.

What I saw was blow off activity on Tuesday as stops got hit all the way up. It really got going after 1,065 and we’re now at 1,085 in the overnight session.

Me I’m not buying it – waiting to short into the Pull Back on the 13,500 tick chart and then reversing into the End of Trend signal. Let’s see if it plays out.

Forex Charts and the “Better” Indicators

Normally I’m a real purist about trading the Emini – simply put, it’s the perfect trading vehicle. But I’m biased and I think it’s clouded my judgement about Forex.

My typical response is “don’t trade Forex because there’s no volume data”. I need price, volume traded at the bid/ask and average trade size to have a complete view of what’s happening. Price alone or price plus tick count (as a proxy for volume) aren’t enough.

But I’ve been ignoring Forex futures traded on the CME Globex. The video below shows how to use the “Better” indicators for Forex trading.

Emini Trading – 1,100 Rejected

The Emini never made it to 1,100 on Friday and we closed down 27.50 points at 1,063. Better Sine Wave gave us an early warning on a cyclical top on Thursday and we’re now in a down swing phase.

We had extreme selling into the close on Friday so we’re likely to get a bounce Monday. But that could just be temporary. The next major support level is around 1,000. Let’s see how this plays out.

Trends and Cycles: Goldman Sachs (GS) and Emini Charts

Goldman Sachs bought their way out of jail. Cost them $550m and the lamest admission of guilt I’ve ever read.

Meanwhile Jamie Dimon at JP Morgan goosed his earnings by pulling $ from his loan loss reserves. He’s betting the worst is behind us – big call.

My personal opinion? We all have way too much debt. Federal and State Governments have turned into Ponzi Schemes – and the time to pay the piper is coming closer.

The video has some Goldman Sachs (GS) charts plus a discussion of trends in lower time frames being equivalent to cycles in higher time frames. Nothing new – just the same old stuff from me.

Our little rally continued today. But we’ve formed a double top and had some profit taking into the close. I’m expecting some weakness on Friday. But the rally isn’t over yet.

I often get asked what settings to use for day trading the mini-Nasdaq (NQ), mini-Dow (YM) and mini-Russell (TF, formerly ER2). This video shows how to determine those settings.

In short, I’d suggest using these time frame charts:

E-mini: 500, 1,500 and 4,500 tick bar charts
mini-Nasdaq: 150, 450 and 1,350 tick bar charts
mini-Dow: 100, 300 and 900 tick bar charts
mini-Russell: 100, 300 and 900 tick bar charts

Emini Trading Setup – Resistance Becomes Support

Bingo – we got the “pop” today with the Emini up 35 points. Cyclical support on the daily chart held and we broke above 1,040. The move turned a little parabolic at the end of the day so we might see some profit taking (cyclical activity) tomorrow.

In today’s video I discuss entering an uptrend. Once we break above cyclical resistance we often come back to test that breakout point. If it holds then resistance becomes support. The clue is to look for Amateurs trying to sell the move and weak selling.

If you receive Emini-Watch.com by RSS feed you might notice that the videos are now available within the feed reader itself. It’s working for me using the Google Reader.

I also upgraded to TradeStation 8.8 yesterday. It seems to be stable and haven’t experienced any problems so far. Make sure when you upgrade that TradeStation goes through a “Verify All” cycle. If not you’ll need to follow these instructions:

Right click in any chart and select “Insert Analysis Technique”
Select any indicator in the “Insert Analysis Techniques” list
Click the “Edit Easy Language” button
In the “TradeStation Development Environment” select “File” and “Verify All”

The markets were back up and running on Tuesday. The Emini closed up about 10 points but most of the day was spent in a slow decline after almost reaching 1,040 early on.

My hypothesis is that we’ve just formed a bottom. If 1,040 is taken out tomorrow I think we’ll have a little run to the upside. My charts are showing we’ve had exhaustion selling and we’ve put in some Bullish divergence signals. So let’s see …

OK, this video is only for the Mac-curious. It’s 20 minutes long but it’s jammed packed full of information about using TradeStation on a Mac. If you’ve ever wanted to get off the Microsoft treadmill but were a TradeStation die hard (like me) then this video might help you take the leap.

If you don’t have time to watch the video then here are some summary points.

Running TradeStation on a Mac relies on some very clever software – Parallels Desktop 5. This software allows you to run the Windows operating system within the Mac operating system. And it’s rock solid and fast.

Booting up and chart opening times are very reasonable:

40 seconds to start the Mac
3 seconds to start Parallels
60 seconds to start Windows 7
10 seconds to start and log into TradeStation, and
30 seconds to open one of my complex tick bar charts in TradeStation or
1.5 seconds to open any other minute, hourly or daily chart.

Pros of running TradeStation on a Mac:

It works. No crashes so far and fast.
Able to open multiple tick bar charts simultaneously.
Real-time chart updating is fast too.
No fan noise and cool – to be honest I don’t even know if there is a fan!

Pros of running a Mac in general:

It just works – networking, installing/uninstalling applications, etc.
Beautifully engineered, no joins, no nooks and crannies to get dirty.
Very quick start up at about 40 seconds.
Seamless integration with iPhone, iPod, iPad, iTunes, etc.

Cons of running a Mac or adjustments I need to make:

New keyboard layout means re-learning/re-assigning hotkeys.
“Finder” for managing documents and files is not as easy as Windows – yet.
Apple-native versions of applications need to be re-learned.

There you go. Just some initial thoughts on running TradeStation on a Mac. So far I’d rate it 9.5 out of 10. The only downside is the time it takes to adjust.
