Hot Wheels just released their latest Elite Ferrari. This time it's the Steve McQueen 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso. This is part of Hot Wheels Ferrari Stars collection where the cars are the stars. This car is definitely a star. This car sold for $2.3 million at a Christie's auction a couple of years ago. So, if you weren't the lucky person to buy the original, this 1:18 scale version will do you nicely.

Two of my favorite movie cars have just been released from Yat Ming. The 1:43 Yat Ming Bullitt Mustang and 1:43 Yat Ming Eleanor Mustang are now available. I am thrilled that Yat Ming has reproduced these famous movie cars. Each replica is nicely detailed and comes in a hard plastic case. Each model is very reasonably priced at $19.97 given the quality of the reproductions. Both cars will definitely be going into my collection.

I just received the newly released GMP 1967 Ferrari 330 P-4 that was driven by Jackie Stewart and Chris Amon at Brands Hatch. This is the first release from GMP from their highend Masterpiece Collection. This model has been created from more than 700 individual pieces. The detail is incredible and reminds me of the highly detailed model cars from CMC. The photos below will give you an idea of some of the detail that is packed into this model. Franklin Mint Bullitt Car a Hit

I just received the Franklin Mint limited edition Bullitt GT 390 mustang and I am very impressed. This release comes 40 years after the 1968 release of the movie, where the tagline was: 'There are bad cops and there are good cops - and then there's Bullitt.' Well there have been Bullitt models and now there is the Franklin Mint Bullitt model and all Bullitt fans should rejoice. The Franklin Mint has infused it's usual high quality standards into this model. This model even comes with reproduced signature of Steve McQueen on the trunk. The pictures posted here don't do this model justice. Trust me, this is a model that you will want to see in person and then add to your collection. This model will defintely be on my Christmas wish list this year.

2008 F1 Championship Down to Two Drivers

The 2008 Formula One championship is down to two drivers; Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa. Hamilton leads Massa by 7 points heading into the Brazilian Grand Prix, the final race of the season. The Chinese Grand Prix turned out to be an uneventful race with Lewis Hamilton winning the race with ease. Massa began the race in third position, but managed to finish second after teammate Kimi Raikonnen allow Massa to catch then pass him in the closing stages of the race.
The final race should be filled with action as Hamilton and Massa vye for the championship. The last race of the season usually is filled with action since it will be the last race for the current years cars. Also, drivers that are unsigned for next year typically have the drives of their season as the try to capture the attention of team owners who have open race seats for next year.

Who Wants the 2008 Formula 1 Championship?

Two weeks ago I wrote, "Can Felipe Massa Get a Break?", since it seemed that Massa was plagued by bad luck and team blunders. However, Massa committed a major blunder in the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix. In an overly aggressive move to regain a track position that was just taken by Lewis Hamilton, Felipe punted Lewis in the side and spun the Championship leader. Hamilton was relegated to last place and all but ended his chance to gain any championship points. Massa was later penalized with a drive-through penalty.
Not to be immune to personal blunders, Lewis Hamilton pushed Kimi Raikkonen wide on the first corner of the race, forcing Kimi off the track with Kimi loosing several track positions. Hamilton was later penalized with a drive-through penalty for the incident and thus adding more salt to his wounds.
In the end, Massa made a very commendable drive through the field and ended up eighth in the race. This moved Massa to within six points of Hamilton with two races to go. So, if Massa and Hamilton don't take each other out in the last two races, the 2008 F1 season finale should be very exciting. Let's hope that both Hamilton and Massa can keep their cool and race to the finish with no personal blunders marring the end of their race season.

Original Italian Job Scalextric Slot Cars

Things are really heating up in the movie replica model car and slot car hobbies. Scalextric just released a three slot car set of the original Italian Job Mini Coopers. If you are a movie car fan, then the original Italian Job DVD should be in your collection. These nimble little cars do stunts that no other car could do. This three car set should be a big selling for the 2008 holiday season. These cars would be great to race or just display along with you diecast cars.

Scalextric will be releasing the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, slot cars and sets in November. Just in time for your holiday shopping.

Can Felipe Massa Get a Break?

Can Felipe Massa get a break? I just watched the inaugural Singapore Singtel Formula One Grand Prix and I was drained after the race. I was very impressed with the first ever night time Formula One race. The track was interesting, the crowd was very enthusiastic and the drivers seemed pumped for the race.
All this season, I have had mixed feelings on who to cheer for. I have been a die-hard Ferrari fan for many years. I have cheered for Felipe ever since he was Ferrari's second driver in the Michael Schumacher era. However, I also really like Lewis Hamilton as a driver. Both of these drivers have been battling for the F1 championship this year with each having their share of bad breaks. Each has committed personal blunders during a race, however, most of their misfortunes have been inflicted by the team. During Sunday's race, Massa suffered from an inexcusable mistake. After leading the beginning stages of a race, Massa pitted for a routine stop. Unfortunately, when the green light flashed to signal to Massa to leave the pits, the fuel hose for still attached. Massa left as he should, but left with the fuel hose attached. Thus ending his chance at winning the Singapore Grand Prix.
There are three races to go in this exciting season and only seven points separating Hamilton and Massa for the championship. Let's hope that there will be no more team mishaps and that Hamilton and Massa can be free to race for the World title.

Pixar Cars New Releases

I know, I know, the Pixar Cars movie was released over two years ago, but I just can't get enough of cars. Apparently, neither can a number of collectors because Mattel keeps cranking out more releases of Cars. The latest cars: Kathy Copter, Leroy Traffik, Petrol Pulaski, Roman Dunes and a chase version of Cruisin Lightning McQueen w/Bumper Stickers. Below are photos of the latest releases and I have heard that there are more cars to come.

What's Hot in Model Cars for Holiday 2008?

What's hot in model cars for holiday 2008? I know that's it's only September, but buying decisions for the 2008 holiday season were made many months ago. Well, did the retailers get it right? Did I guess right?

For the movie car retailer it's been an up and down year so far. We started the year with the Speed Racer live action movie. The movie was largely a flop. However, Jada and Hot Wheels released a wide range of cars. Jada's cars were offered in a wide variety of scales from 1:55 - 1:18. A number of collectors were a little disappointed in the Hot Wheels cars since they were released as plastic models and more geared towards kids. Johnny Lightning also re-issued their Speed Racer cars in 2008. All in all, I feel that the these cars will still make great gifts for the holiday season. These cars a priced so the collector can add to his collection without breaking the bank and for the none collector, kids can have fun playing with these unique cars.

By far the biggest boost in the movie car model car arena, came from Batman. With the long awaited releases of the 1/18 scale 1966 Batmobile in both standard and elite versions and the release of the Dark Knight movie, collectors were treated to some very nice iconic replicas. Hot Wheels did a fantastic job with the 1966 Batmobiles. The elite versions of these cars are very impressive. The details, paint finish and quality are superb. These cars were well worth the wait. I was very fortunate to secure several cases for Movie Car Mania and of course one for myself. The elite cars sold out almost immediately. Hot Wheels also released 1/50 scale Batman cars. The detail and quality on these cars is very nice as well. In the coming months, Hot Wheels will be releasing new Batman cars to the 1/50 scale line. Scheduled to be released are the 1966 Batboat w/trailer and 1966 Batmobile with trailer hitch. These should be hot.

AutoArt stepped up their game in 2008 and released another great movie car, the Mad Max Interceptor. This was and should continue to be a hot car going into the holiday season. Additionally, AutoArt re-released the 1956 Jaguar XK-SS from the Steve McQueen collection. If you missed adding this car to your collection last time, don't miss out again.
