It is such a special time for me this year as I get to spend Mother’s Day with my mother in person.

No matter how much we are separated by distance or circumstance we always reconnect.

As my mother and I grow older, days like today are becomming even more important to us both.

Remembering all of those moments that we have shared, and the journey ahead for us both.

Emotive Images also recognises how important mother and child relationships are in being recorded photographically.

They had perfect weather, gorgeous surroundings, and celebrating with many friends and family.  You couldn’t ask for a better day!

My favourite moment of the entire day was at the time of this photograph below.  We had left the bridal party and guests on the other side of the island, and took a quick trip to a more secluded part of the island.  The waves were crashing a few metres from where we stood, the golden sun was setting behind the sand dunes…..  Tara and Matt were finally able to take a moment and just enjoy each other’s company.  After much laughter, long kisses, some food and drink….we headed back to the reception where the party really got started.

The perfect day….

May your Easter break be filled with reflection and nourishment both spiritually and with good food and heart warming company of friends and family.

Enjoy this time together and take comfort in the small blessings that you have in your life.

Be mindful of who is part of your life at this time and truly be _in_ the moment with them.  You never know when life will change.

You know when you meet a couple, and they don’t have to say much to each other or to you, for you to just _know_ that they are absolutely in sync with one another and in love?

Well…..

Tracy and Daniel are totally that type of couple.  The way that Daniel looks at Tracy makes your heart melt.  I even heard his groomsmen on the day of their wedding a few weeks back say pretty much the exact same thing.  Such a genuine couple with so much love for one another and those around them.  I feel really honoured to have them as clients.  Their wedding was absolutely stunning (those photos are still to come once the happy couple have viewed them first  ), and I cannot wait to photograph them as they grow as a family.

Ms T came to me last year to create a portrait shoot concept for her that captured the importance of her furry friend and to glam it up for the camera!  We also allowed for the later part of the shoot to be more of a boudoir shoot, but those won’t be shared here  Ms T started off quite nervous at the beginning of the shoot.  Most women who book in for a glammed up photo session are quite shy and reserved.  However, they are always keen to pamper themselves and step out of their comfort zone to produce something truly unique for themselves.  Erin Bigg was the Makeup Artist for this photo shoot, and her gentle and fun personality really helped relax Ms T and allowed her to sit back and feel pampered while getting ready!  As it should be!!!

I want to share with you a poem that I came across many years ago when I was working as a Private Psychologist in Brisbane.  When I came across this poem I was so touched by how it encompassed the absolute desire to embrace vulnerability in every part of your life.  It is a challenge to dare to dream! to not shrink back!  It 100% delivers a very strong message to my past, present and future clients of Emotive Images.  The message is that “I want to know…. everything about you, your family, your dreams, your disappointments, your passions, your determination to stand up and be heard”.  I want to know these things so that we can work together to create something truly amazing.  Something that inspires you.  Something that truly reflects what is in your soul.  I know that we can bring everything together into a creative concept that reflects your ultimate portrait.  Over the coming months I will be involved in a number of Conceptual Portraits for clients who are wanting something special.  Something that offers up a story about themselves that they can enjoy as art within their home.  Their life, personality and relationships as art.

This is my invitation to you……. to take a breath and then take a step towards being vulnerable and embrace how you desire to be seen within your very own Conceptual Portrait….

To all the couples out there…..Happy Valentine’s Day!

I hope that you get to reconnect with your loved one this day, this week, this year…  Take the time out to just be with your partner!  Get back to the basis of why you fell in love in the first place.  Treasure it today and beyond!  And most of all, have heaps of fun along the way!!!

So much in our daily lives is wrapped up in love and connections between people.  Think about it.  Of course not everyone ‘loves’ everyone who they come in contact with (that sounds like some dodgy movie script lol).  But every single person is looking for a connection with people who really ‘get them’…..  Connection leads to trust and trust leads to vulnerability, excitement and passion!  I’m not just talking about the obvious with intimacy between two people in love.  I’m talking about everyday relationships as well.  It’s the connection that you build up with people in your social circle who end up becoming close personal friends.  It’s the connection that you make with people who you work with, when you can’t wait to share with them some sort of gossip from around the water cooler.  Without connection and trust, there is no vulnerability and excitement in relationships.

Connection and trust is what drives me to get to know my couples as much as possible, so that they can be the absolute best that they can possibly be in front of the camera.  I want them to shine!

I want them to be able to look back at their photos and really know that they are enough, and that their relationships are beautiful and worth treasuring!

I don’t just pick up a camera, put in the batteries and the compactflash card, set the shutter and f-stop, and start photographing.  The creating of a person’s images starts from the moment I meet them.

When they enter my home studio, sit in my comfy couches, and just get to talk about themselves and their relationships, that’s when I really get to know….them.  That’s when I really see them for who they are.  That is also when they get to know me and my quirky (and some have even said wicked sounding lol) laugh, they get to know about my sarcastic and dark humour, and they also get to know how shy I can be even though my laugh would suggest otherwise.  They might even have the rare opportunity to witness my ‘scared-ey cat’ Cat/Furbaby who will often dart out of the room when visitors enter.  They might even hear in the room next to the studio my gorgeous little budgie as he makes this very strange sound echo-ing into one of his toys, which has been described on a number of occasions by my clients as a chook!  No, I don’t have any chooks in my house  But he certainly has a decent set of lungs on him, for something so small!  When my clients come to my studio, they see the real me.  It is during that initial meeting that I am already starting to create how the images will look in my head, visualising settings and lighting etc.  This is also why clients hire me, because I offer something more than just picking up a camera, putting in the batteries and cards, setting the shutter and f-stop and then taking a photo.  It is about an entire experience.  An experience that creates a connection between myself and my clients.  It allows them to then be vulnerable and excited and involved in their photo shoot.

Showing vulnerability and trust to another person is a rare and precious quality.  And they have shown me that vulnerability in their photos, which inspires me.

Just imagine what their wedding day photos will be like when all of their loved ones are around them, and they are able to just relax and enjoy each other’s company!  I can’t wait to bear witness to that day, and capture all of the connections, the vulnerability, the trust and the excitement that will be all around them on the day!

We have had the opportunity over the years to photograph weddings at a number of locations in South-East Queensland.  City weddings, weddings in the suburbs of Brisbane, beaches on the north and south coast, in and around the Gold Coast, out near Cleveland, Mt Mee and Maleny.  We have photographed weddings in churches, little chapels, gardens, overlooking gorgeous beaches and in beautiful hotels.

Mt Mee and Maleny/Montville would have to be one of my most favourite locations, not just for weddings, but for visiting in general in our personal time.  I originally grew up in a small country town, so the pace and beauty of small country towns really draw me in, especially when I spend the majority of my time in the rush and bustle of Brisbane.  I love visiting the gorgeous shops in these towns with locally made products and produce.

The weddings I have photographed in Mt Mee and Maleny/Montville have been both colourful and serene.  And yet regardless of the beauty of the location, when it all boils down to it, it is all about how much the bride is glowing as she anticipates the day and marrying the man of her dreams!  It all comes down to how much connection that is felt between the couple and how amazing it is to be able to capture it for them as their photographer.  It just so happens that the couple get to commit themselves to each other forever and ever in such a fairytale location!
