Predators opens July 7, 2010.

Directed by James Cameron, the movie stars Sam Worthington as Jake Sulley, a reluctant hero who embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Wes Studi and Laz Alonso also star.

Amanda Seyfried, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Orlando Bloom will join Glenn Close in Albert Nobbs to be directed by Rodrigo Garcia.

The movie stars Close as a woman who must pass as a man to survive life in 19th century Ireland. Michael Gambon and Janet McTeer also star. Close previously played the role on stage, winning an Obie award for her 1983 Off Broadway performance. She wrote and will produce the big screen version. Shooting begins this summer in Dublin.

The romantic thriller stars Angelina Jolie as an Interpol agent who seduces an American tourist (Johnny Depp) in order to track down a criminal who was once her lover. The movie is currently filming in Venice, Italy with Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck directing.

Bettany was most recently in theaters in Legion. Sewell is best known for starring in the modern sci-fi classic Dark City.

The project would cast Downey as the leader of a team posted at a remote space station. When he and a female colleague are outside the space station, debris from an exploded satellite decimates the remainder of their team — and presumably the space station as well. Bummer. Word was a couple of weeks back that Angelina Jolie was going to be starring, but that rumor was quickly shot down. Filming begins this summer in London.

Downey will be in theaters in a couple of months in Iron Man 2.

A while back it was reported that Mickey Rourke would be playing Conan’s father in the upcoming Conan movie. Looks like things have changed because Vulture has word now that Ron Perlman will play the role. Rourke will instead be starring in War of the Gods.

Continuing the Conan casting, Heat Vision is reporting that Said Taghmaoui has also joined the movie playing a leader of thieves who is saved by Conan. Taghmaou appeared last year as Breaker in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. You might also recognize from his role as Caesar in a few episodes of Lost last season.

And finally, Variety says that Rose McGowan will take a role in the movie playing a half-human/half-witch. So what does this mean for McGowan starring in a Red Sonja movie? Is that still happening?

Conan, starring Jason Momoa in the title role, began filming this week in Bulgaria with Marcus Nispel directing. Rachel Nichols and Stephen Lang also star.

The movie, set in a world where human boxing has been replaced by robots fighting each other, stars Jackman as a former boxer who gets a shot at redemption when he teams up with his long lost son to train an unusual robot for a shot at the championships.

Production begins in June for a planned fall 2011 release date.

Deadline is reporting that Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, Chloe Moretz and Asa Butterfield will star in Martin Scorsese’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

The movie follows Hugo Cabret (Butterfield), a 12-year old orphan who lives in the walls of a Paris train station in 1930. Sacha Baron Cohen will play the station inspector. Kingsley will play real-life silent film director George Melies (who if you look at his IMDb profile directed more than 550 films between 1896 and 1913). Moretz will play Isabelle. The project is based on the children’s book by Brian Selznick.

Sacha Baron Cohen is best known for his Borat and Bruno characters. (Although he’s best known around the Empire Movies offices as Isla Fisher’s significant other.) Kingsley is currently in theaters in Scorsese’s Shutter Island. Chloe Moretz will be in theaters next month in Kick-Ass. Asa Butterfield stars in the upcoming sequel to Nanny McPhee.

And, as Kick-Ass gets drawn into their no-holds-barred world of bullets and bloodletting with Frank’s son, Chris, now reborn as Kick-Ass’s arch-nemesis, Red Mist — the stage is set for a final showdown between the forces of good and evil — in which the DIY hero will have to live up to his name. Or die trying…

Kick-Ass opens April 16th.

The indie drama follows an American couple who return to the wife’s homeland of China where they deal with prejudices, humor, cultural differences and self-discovery while meeting a Shanghai street kid who changes their lives. Michael D. Olmos will direct from a screenplay by Josh Goldstein. Filming begins next month in Shanghai.

Whitaker is currently in theaters in Our Family Wedding. He stars this weekend with Jude Law in Repo Men.

Temuera Morrison and Taika Waititi have joined the cast of Green Lantern for director Martin Campbell.

The movie, based on the DC Comics property, stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, a test pilot who comes in posession of a powerful ring, introducing him to an interstellar police force known as the Green Lanterns. Waititi plays Jordan’s best friend. Morrison will play Abin Sur, a member of the Corps who is instrumental in Jordan becoming a superhero. Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins, and Mark Strong also star in the movie which is currently scheduled to be in theaters June 17, 2011.

Waititi was nominated for an Oscar in 2005 for his live action short Two Cars, One Night. Other credits include writing and directing Eagle vs. Shark in 2007. Temuera Morrison is most recognizable for playing Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones.

Alice in Wonderland was the top movie at the box office for a 2nd straight weekend earning another $62 million — a 46% drop from last weekend when it opened with $116 million. The movie has now earned $208.6 million.

Opening in 2nd place was Green Zone starring Matt Damon and directed by Paul Greengrass. The movie, produced on a reported budget of $100 million, opened with an estimated $14.5 million.

In 3rd spot was She’s Out of My League starring Jay Baruchel and Alice Eve. The romantic comedy opened with $9.6 million.

Not quite the same opening as a Twilight movie but Remember Me, starring Robert Pattinson, opened in 4th place with $8.3 million. Not bad for a movie that likely would have tanked had it starred anybody else.

Rounding out the top 5 movies was Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorsese. The movie added another $8.1 million bringing its 4-week total to $108 million.

The only other new release to crack the top ten movies was the Fox Searchlight comedy Our Family Wedding starring Forest Whitaker, America Ferrera and Carlos Mencia.

Predators opens July 7, 2010.

The movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2011, follows the exploits of Steve Rogers who enlists to do battle in WWII, but is rejected due to frailty and sickness. Unwilling to take no for an answer, he is administered the Super-Solider Serum and becomes Captain America. After months of training, he emerges to wage war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers. The search is still underway for the title character. Joe Johnston will direct.

Weaving was most recently in theaters in The Wolfman — also directed by Johnston.

The movie stars Jeff Bridges as U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn who is hired by a 14-year-old girl to avenge her father’s murder at the hands of a drifter named Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin). Along the way, they are joined by a Texas Ranger (Matt Damon) who helps track the killer. Robert Duvall originated the Pepper role in the 1969 western which starred John Wayne as Cogburn.

Pepper’s upcoming credits include Casino Jack starring Kevin Spacey.

The comedy-drama casts Giamatti as a struggling attorney who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach. All aspects of his life are thrown in the air when he becomes the legal guardian of a client whose grandson shows up on his doorstep. Melanie Lynskey and Jeffrey Tambor also star.

Production begins next week in New York.
