Those that have attended are aware of the emotional connection to the song America the Beautiful. Unfortunately, UP UNTIL NOW, only about 5% of our graduates went on to attend Leadership Adventure. Here is some 'homework' for you to do over the next two weeks: Get a pad of paper and on the top of it write, ‘I believe…’ You will add beliefs to that list whenever you can. List out as many of your beliefs as possible. I would say you should come up with a minimum of 50. You can do this. Take the time and build your list of beliefs. What a word…

It has the same base as the word Communicate…it ends with "ment"…like you really "meant" it…then there is that 'I' right in the middle of everything…and it starts with "Co", like their is some shared responsibility (like a co-worker, co-author,-co-conspirator)…what a word…Commitment.

Recently, I was in Texas teaching a custom class for a company owned by two friends who are also Empower U graduates. At the beginning of this class we give out elastic bracelets with the initials "HBS" on them. The bracelets are used as a way to become aware of all the powerless words, thoughts and un-resourceful talk - both internal and external - that we use. Whenever somebody uses the "try" word, or says or thinks something un-resourceful, they are supposed to pull on the elastic bracelet and snap themselves. This, of course, ...

One of the core ideas that we work with here at Empower U is that, like it or not, we are all hypocrites. This means that regardless of how well intentioned we may be, it is almost impossible to always live up to our highest ideals.

What's that Smell? That's Change!

If you have ever seen the movie, “Osmosis Jones”, that is a line that is used by a candidate running for Mayor of Frank. It is interesting how change has a “smell” …to some it could be a smell from the bathroom, for others a smell of excitement. What olfactory sensation does change create in your experience? For most people it is uncomfortable, fearful and even downright stinky!
