When I was new to the network marketing industry I used to hear the phrase “fake it until you make it” and I used to think, ah, right, sure thing. I’ll fake it whatever it is and nobody is going to believe me. Back in the early nineteen nineties I was with a company that really promoted the image of success however most of us were starving to death and wearing our one good outfit designed to impress our potential business partners. We were supposed to spend all our money on products, training’s and sales aids but in truth, we were flat broke and nobody was really fooled for very long.</p>
<p>Fast forward to the twenty first century and I’d say most of us in the industry are about as real as it gets. Building a successful and profitable business takes some effort and not just for the first thirty days. You have to be willing to work, and work tirelessly, sometimes for long hours before you ever see a nickel of profits. You must be willing to develop yourself into the type of person others will look up to and want to follow. It takes patience to reinvent you, to question old self-defeating beliefs and to release the past.</p>
<p>It used to be that fluff and stuff really could hook a new business partner, you know what I mean. The great cars, the Rolex watch and the perpetual tan was all signs of a successful network marketer in the old days. Thank goodness times have changed and the industry has grown, matured and become more real. We’ve actually purged most of the riff raff out and now we’re left with some pretty quality, and very genuine people. When everybody is faking it before making it the entire sales force is built on a house of sand. Your phony business is shifting, moving and slipping away from you and you’re exerting tons of energy attempting to keep everybody fooled into thinking you’re successful.  As soon as you enroll a new partner, they dry up and blow away when a strong wind comes up because they weren’t committed and they begin to realize they’ve been lied to anyway.</p>
<p>Being, &#8216;real&#8217; to me means to be sincere and to sort for quality, like-minded people whom are ready to build a solid business. We inform people up front of the efforts and energies required to create a profitable business. When we’re real with people, we don’t have to pretend to be anything other than who we are and we invite others to grow right along with us.</p>
<p>I train on a topic called; Prospecting with Posture and it’s all about being real with our prospects. I’d rather you were direct, professional and honest rather than all sickly sweet and phony about what is truly required to create good business results. My experience has taught me that well informed people come into our industry with their eyes wide open. They&#8217;re ready to roll up their sleeves and train, work and create the financial rewards they’ve been dreaming about. This isn’t easy but as we’ve often heard, it is a simple business of duplication. When you get people started with the mindset of being a business owner, they understand that changing their habits, thoughts and attitudes is required in order to create a brighter future. You truly empower people to step up and to be accountable to their own lives and you let them know that they have your one hundred percent of support and encouragement.</p>
<p>Back in the day we used to say that people were under the “ether” of the glitz and glamour we pretended was the day to day norm of our industry. Becoming a better person isn’t glitzy. It’s not glamorous to practice good disciplines and to develop yourself daily by reading, studying and taking lots of action. It may not be glamorous to improve oneself but it certainly can be profitable, rewarding and very freeing to be real in business and in life!</p>

We aren’t looking for excuse makers; we’re looking for people who say, “in spite of this situation, I am ready to change!” When it comes to prospecting for new partners/customers someone is selling and someone is buying. Make sure you’re not buying all the excuses you receive because going along with the excuses won’t improve your life or your prospects life. </p>
<p>Times are challenging but guess what; you have a viable answer to most financial issues the average person is currently facing. Stick to your guns, listen for excuses and recognize them when you hear three or four from the same prospect. If you’re bold and confident you might say something like, “I hear what you’re saying Ms Prospect however I feel certain that if you have the desire to move past these current challenges…my company can assist you to overcome this financial hurdle!” You may continue with something such as; “my job is to sort out the people who are caught up in why everything can’t work for them and locate the people who still have a dream.” “Do you still have a dream Mr. Prospect?” If the answer is yes, then move forward and if the response is two or three more excuses then bless them and move on…next!</p>

For example, prospecting may not be a favorite activity for you right now but you do it because its revenue generating activity and you realize that the more you do it, the better skilled you become and developing this skill are a must for long term achievement. </p>
<p>There may be many necessary activities you have to do now so that you’re business will grow…do them and do them without complaint because the pay off will come down the road. Down the road could be one year, two years or five years so dig in and commit to the long term achievement of your goals and dreams. Once you have accomplished some of your financial and business goals, you may choose to hire someone else to do some of the task you don’t enjoy, great… down the road you will be in a position to do that but you aren’t there yet.   </p>
<p>Today is all about developing good habits that others (team partners) will duplicate for long term success.  </p>
