For those of you who are regular visitors will no doubt notice that I have changed the theme of my blog. The reason for that being is that I recently found a wonderful website that has a great selection of elegant wordpress themes, and as soon as I saw this one I knew I had to use it for my blog.

There are 15 elegant wordpress themes to choose from, and when you register they’re all available for you to download to use on as many blogs as you own.

So, what’s the price for such a wonderful offer? Well, most premium wordpress themes can go for anything from $20 - $200, and that is just for one theme. With elegant wordpress themes you can get all 15 themes for just $19.95!

It’s $19.95 per year but any theme that is added while you’re a member can be yours to download. So, you may be paying for 15 themes when you first register, but if ten more themes are created within the first year those are available to you as well. So, you could in theory pay $19.95 for 25 themes!

I’ve tested a couple of the themes and they are pretty easy to use. If you do get stuck, however, there are instructions on how to use the theme included.

Also included with the themes are the PSD files (so you can edit it in Photoshop) and the plugins used for that particular theme.

All in all, I’d recommend you sign up to this site now while the price is so low - at $19.95 for 15 elegant wordpress themes, I’d say that’s too good an opportunity to miss!

Visit the site now to register.

My first impressions of the Perimetec website are that this site is professional, attractive, and down-right straight-to-the-point. I immediately knew what this site was about and what it had to offer, and above all, I wanted to stay on the site and read more about their products.

If you need Email Spam Protection, this site and company are worth a visit. Their email protection service costs only $2.50 a month which is a very impressive price.

Their products include Barracuda Spam Firewall, Barracuda Web Filter, Barracuda IM Firewall, Barracuda Load Balancer, Barracuda Message Archiver, and Barracuda Web Application Controllers.

Of the Barracuda Spam Firewall, Perimetec say “Equipped with twelve layers of defensive protection, The Barracuda Spam Firewall provides industry-leading anti spam security. It incorporates both hardware and software solutions and is specifically designed to arm your email server against viruses, spam, phishing, spoofing and spyware attacks.”

Impressive.

Perimetec services include the Email Spam Blocker – protect your mailbox from $2.50 using their Silver, Gold or Platinum packages. They also offer a webmail solution if your company doesn’t host its own email.

Looking at the recognisable logo’s that this company has protected, it’s clear that this is a reputable and professional company to choose if you need to protect your email from spam. Nintendo, Comcast, Fedex to name but a few.

If you’re undecided about choosing Permietec, they also off a Free Trial.

With a professional and impressive website and famous clients, I think it’s fair to say that Perimetec should be given consideration when it comes to Anti Spam Filtering Services.

As you may know, I've recently changed the theme of Emz Design, and with that I lost the Top Commenters widget. You will pleased to know that the Top Commenters widget is now back!

Why is this good for you?
Basically, if you're a Top Ten Commenter for the current month, your name with a link to your site is placed in the sidebar of this site. The sidebar is on every page of this site, so effectively your link is added to 50+ pages and posts just by leaving a comment here and there.

PR from each of these pages will be leaked to your site which will help you gain a higher PR.

Great! Anymore sites like these?
Yes! After browsing Thou Shall Blog I noticed a page that has an entire list of blogs with the Top Commenters widget. Visit this page: The Best Places to Get Quality Backlink to view this list.

But don't visit there until you've commented a little here ;)

Where can I download the Top Commenters Plugin?
You can download the plugin here: Top Commenters Plugin.

Once you’ve installed the plugin you have to apply a bit of code to your sidebar (or wherever you want to place it). This code is here:

<?php if(function_exists('ns_show_top_commentators')) { ?>
<li>
<ul><?php ns_show_top_commentators(); ?></ul>
</li>
<?php } ?>

All you need to do is Copy and Paste that into your sidebar and it will work.

Recently the company I work for have taken over the running of a blog. The blog hadn't been updated since last April, and the version it was running on was a very old version.

I was tasked with upgrading the blog to the current version and I wanted to do it quickly and efficiently.

After surfing the Internet I came accross a great plugin that upgrades wordpress for you.

Download "Wordpress Automatic Upgrade".

When running this plugin please be aware that it creates a backup folder in your root directory called "wpau-backup" which is accessible for writing to. You may want to rename this folder and change the permissions to 444, or you can delete it (I'd advise you download a copy before doing this).

All in all though, this plugin allowed me to upgrade wordpress automatically within 5 minutes, and it will alert me when a new version of wordpress is available, to which it will upgrade automatically too.

Yesterday I came accross a slight problem when adding a Dropdown Menu to a site.

I had 3 divs - one to the left, one to the middle, and one to the right.

The left and middle div both had
float:left
in their style, while the right div had
float: right
to its style.

I tested the site and all looked great... until I added a Dropdown Menu to the middle div and Firefox starts playing up.

Basically, what Firefox did was keep the right div floating to the right, but underneath the middle div. This wasn't what I wanted at all, and after about half an hour of fiddling with the code I managed to fix it.

Yesterday I came accross a slight problem when adding a Dropdown Menu to a site.

Basically, what Firefox did was keep the right div floating to the right, but underneath the middle div. This wasn’t what I wanted at all, and after about half an hour of fiddling with the code I managed to fix it.

The Solution

All I did was cut the right div out of the code and placed it before the middle div. It still had the same style attributes, all that was needed was a quick swap. And hey presto! It worked!

The CSS

#left {float: left;}
#middle {float: left;}
#right {float: right;}

The HTML

Change this:

<div id="left">Left Content</div>
<div id="middle">Middle Content</div>
<div id="right">Right Content</div>

To this:

<div id="left">Left Content</div>
<div id="right">Right Content</div>
<div id="middle">Middle Content</div>

Well, it's been almost two months since my last entry. I can say that the break was needed but I feel it's time I start putting my heart into this blog.

I feel it's time for a new start, and with a new start comes a new theme! I downloaded this one from Smashing Magazine. As you can see, it's slightly different from their version.

Luckily it came with the PSD so I could change the colour scheme easily and get rid of the things I didn't want. I also had to alter the CSS to make it work properly in 800x600 resolution. I know the majority of users nowadays use 1024x768, but I didn't want to take any chances.

Well, it’s been almost two months since my last entry. I can say that the break was needed but I feel it’s time I start putting my heart into this blog.

I feel it’s time for a new start, and with a new start comes a new theme! I downloaded this one from Smashing Magazine. As you can see, it’s slightly different from their version.

Luckily it came with the PSD so I could change the colour scheme easily and get rid of the things I didn’t want. I also had to alter the CSS to make it work properly in 800×600 resolution. I know the majority of users nowadays use 1024×768, but I didn’t want to take any chances.

Also with this new start comes a new service. I’m offering a PSD to HTML service with prices ranging from £20 to £50 ($40 to $100). Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this.

I guess that’s all for now. Posts will become more regular from now on so please keep checking back.

First Impressions of the Site
One of the things I like about browsing websites is when a site has a great design and is unique you can spend a good 10 minutes in awe looking at it, kindof wishing you’d come up with a great design like that. This is the first thing that struck me when I visited this site. Their web design portfolio is also something to be proud of.

Services
NVI have a great selection of services including E-Marketing, SEO & SEM, Web Design, E-Commerce, Content Management, Web Hosting, and Branding.

E-Marketing
NVI will create an E-Marketing plan for your website that will get you on the map. They will discuss and analyze your online goals with you to know what you’re aiming for. From this they will create innovative ways to make your company stand out from your competitors. An E-Marketing plan is must-have when it comes to getting your website noticed.

SEO & SEM
SEO & SEM (Search Engine Optimisation & Search Engine Marketing) should come hand in hand with E-Marketing. A website needs good SEO implemented into it to ever be found in the search engines. NVI offer a detailed step-by-step solution which they will implement into your website to make sure your site has good rankings in all the search engines.

Web Design
If you’re a company offering Web Design you must have a great design for your site to ever pull it off - and NVI do just that. NVI analyze key elements of what you want your website to do and who the target audience are before starting on any design. When they do start creating a design they design it to keep it SEO friendly and keep in with Accessibility standards.

E-Commerce
Usually all E-Commerce websites have the same sort of look and useability, but NVI knows that a generic E-Commerce site isn’t going to generate you any sales, so they up the ante on their designs to make your E-Commerce stand out from all the rest. With this E-Commerce solution comes a Content Management System which you can use to add content to pages, and add products you wish to sell.

Web Hosting
NVI offer secure web hosting which can host from the very basic of websites to the most advanced of websites. Their web hosting uses high quality bandwidth which is both fast and reliable, and they keep a good eye on your bandwidth use so they can give you the right price for your needs.

Branding
A corporate identidy needs branding, and if you don’t have one NVI can create a fantastic range of branding for your company including a Logo, Corporate stationery, Web Banners, Brochures etc. With the best logo’s you can always remember the company name just by looking at it - and NVI can create a logo for your company that will do just that.

This is going to be a quick post just to let you all know I’m going to take a break from this site for a while.

I recently had some bad news concerning a family member and my head just isn’t in the right frame of mind to be blogging.

I’m not sure how long the break will be, but please know that I’m not abandoning the site. I value all my visitors and would like you all to still visit when I return.

Thank you.

When people start link building they often don't think about it correctly and end up with links on pages that won't actually mean anything. Before you even think about adding your link to a site you should create a plan of action.

What search term are you aiming for?
This should be the first thing you ask yourself. It's better to get 100 links with your search term in the anchor text, rather than 100 links that say "my first website".

When people start link building they often don’t think about it correctly and end up with links on pages that won’t actually mean anything. Before you even think about adding your link to a site you should create a plan of action.

What search term are you aiming for?
This should be the first thing you ask yourself. It’s better to get 100 links with your search term in the anchor text, rather than 100 links that say “my first website”. Search engines take into account what appears in your anchor text and decides whether it’s relevant or not to what people are searching for.

The term I’ve chosen for this site is “Web Design Blog”, and at the moment it is about 80th in Google for that search term. Although it isn’t great, it would’ve been a lot lower in the results had I had all my link anchor text say “my first website”.

Decide what search term you’re aiming for and then you’re good to go.

Where should you add links?
You should try and add links to sites that are similar in niche. If your site is about Web Design there isn’t much point adding your link to a site about Fishing Tackle. It just doesn’t make sense - it doesn’t go. Search engines take into account sites that are linking to you and whether or not there is any relevance in that link. You’re far more likely to rank higher if your link is on a page about your niche.

Also a good place to go for adding links is forums. Again, make sure it’s a forum similar to your niche. When you join a forum you have an option to add a signature with every post. If you add your link to your signature, then for every post you make on that forum another link is created to your site.

Where shouldn’t you add links?
A page with a PR of 5 is usually a great thing and I wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to have a link there - but when it has 1000’s of links already there just isn’t any point. A PR5 page with a 1000’s of links is leaking page rank to every single link on that page, that’s a PR5 spread over 1000. It doesn’t mean that it’s passing a PR5 to every link, it means it’s sharing the PR5 with 1000 sites, which basically means it’s worth less than what a PR1 site would give you.

Another bad point about this is that the links on that site are about anything (adult related, fishing tackle, football) and it really isn’t beneficial to you to have your site associated with meaningless links and topics.

Any other pointers?
Make sure that when you’re adding links to other sites and forums to get your spelling correct. As I said earlier the term I’m aiming for with this site is “Web Design Blog” and if I keep pushing it it will get further in the search engines: but it won’t if I suddenly start adding links that say “Web Dsegin Blog”. Google and other search engines don’t spell check your links, nor are they capable of mind-reading what your word is supposed to say! So always make sure you double check your spelling before adding links to other sites.
