FAQ:
What are the pre-conditions to apply?
- Agencies submit commercial register
- Freelancers (translators/interpreters as OPE, One Person Enterprise) should meet at least one of
the following criteria:
a) a recognized graduate qualification in translation from an institution of higher education;
b) a recognized graduate qualification in any other field from an institution of higher education plus
two years of full-time professional experience in translating;
c) five years of full-time professional experience in translating.

What is the validation time frame of the certificate?
- The certificate for agencies is valid for 6 years and 3 years for individuals, always by a yearly maintaining audit, above all depending on the evaluation and estimation of the responsible Lead Auditor.

How long does the certification/re-certification/surveillance audit take?
- Agencies 2-4 h
- Freelancers 1-2 h

What is the content of the certification/re-certification/surveillance audit?
- Just an interview to make sure the submitted documentation and qualification meet the requirements of the related standard.

What are the steps of the certification process?

3-creating the handbook, gathering the needed qualification evidence and send all to: austrian-arabic@aon.at

4-contacting the Lead Auditor who shall check the documentation and qualification and give his/her feedback. Candidate modifies accordingly and re-send until receiving the approval

5-based on his/her approval on the documentation the Lead Auditor suggest a date for the site visit

6-based on the site visit/interviews the Lead Auditor submits the audit report recommending issuing the certificate, in case everything is OK

7-within 2-4 weeks the candidate receives the certificate from the certification body.

Do I need to do any examination?
- No, the certificate is NOT a qualification certificate, we certify that you, as an agency or freelancer are qualified and working in accordance with the related international standard.

What about the fees?
- Agencies: EUR 1500 - 3000 depending on the company size + traveling costs
- Freelancer: EUR 400 + traveling costs, if needed
This are the fees for the initial audit including registration, documentation check, site visit and certificate issuing fees. There's a surveillance audit in the 2nd and 3rd years, fees are about 20% less than the above mentioned initial fees. Then we conduct an initial audit again etc.

We regret to announce that there are some translators and translation agencies pretending they had a valid LICS EN 15038 certificate from the Austrian Standards Institute. Stop: You're cheating on your clients by doing this, if you don't have a valid one. Your clients usually ask us and we tell them the truth. Even when you once obtained the certificate, it doesn't mean it's validity is forever. Translators and translation agencies with valid certificates have to go through a Surveillance Audit every year. A valid certificate means that LICS &The Austrian Standards Institute confirm that the certified companies and/or individuals still fulfill the standard requirements in accordance to the international standard EN 15038 and this can only be done by means of a mandatory Surveillance Audit. Moreover, we shall ask our lawyer to take legal action in case of repetition.

Pass on any missing data or documents required by your Lead Auditor
The Lead Auditor contacts you to confirm the date for your oral certification audit
Obtainment of the certificate (in case of a successful certification audit)
Register as a "Certified International Qualified Translator" or "Certified International Qualified Interpreter" in all our databases

Unfortunately, Mr. Ganzoury did not attend his mandatory Surveillance audit according to EN 15038. He thus lost the validity of his LCIS EN 15038 certificate. Furthermore, we would like to announce that there are some translators and translation agencies with invalid EN 15038 certificates because of the same reason as above, despite indicating to their customers that they are still certified. Please note that your customers usually ask us, and that you shall lose them permanently if you do not tell them the truth.
Moreover, we shall ask our lawyer to take legal action in case of repetition. Candidates to be authorised Lead Auditors of AS+C are EN 15038 certified translators with respectable work experience. After going through a special "Lead Auditor Training in accordance with ISO 19011 & EN 15038" the candidates attend at least 3 audits under observer statues, each candidate has then to conduct a complete audit under the supervision of a Lead Auditor. Depending on the report of the supervisor the certification body decides upon appointing the candidates as authorised Lead Auditor.
