My Friday's looking pretty fly, hope yours is too!

Looking through many inspiring wedding photos and talking to my clients about their planning got me to thinking... if there was one decoration detail I wouldn't leave out on a wedding (of any budget), it would be to include an amazing wedding backdrop. Preferably one that could be accessible even after the ceremony. I know photo booths were such a huge hit because it gave guests something to do during cocktail hour but if you can't afford one and you're not a bride who's particularly into flowers, why not have a stand out backdrop that serves as a background for your guests to go photo crazy over? A stylish, creative, insanely memorable backdrop that represents YOU! There's absolutely no reason your wedding shouldn't be trending on instagram, twitter or re-pinned 462158 times ;)

Oh Monday, you came too soon.. again! Hope y'all had a lovely weekend :) I finally got a minute to post and I have a fun DIY project to kick off this week. It's been a while since I posted some DIY inspiration, so here you go! String Art of the 70s has made a come back over the last year. Create your own "home is where the heart is" artwork (in your wedding colors) to highlight the country, state or city you met or tied the knot. This piece would be an amazing addition to decorate your wedding as a back drop or sign-in for guests to write their wishes on and then display your customized artwork over the mantle in your new love nest!

You down with OPP? It was an early 90's jam, but in this case, I mean, other people's photos! Came across this nifty template featured on Offbeat Bride that I thought was brilliant! It's basically a game of "I Spy" to encourage your guests to participate and help you capture certain moments that would have otherwise been missed. Your photographer may already have a long shot list to fulfill or perhaps you had to cut down on costs and aren't able to hire the photographer to cover the entire day. This way guests can contribute and have fun doing it! Feel free to customize as you wish :)

Tips + Tools Thursday: Concealer- a Bride's BF!

Hello lovelies!

I'm back :) If you were wondering why i've been MIA, I gave birth to my third child on Valentine's Day! It really has been quite an adjustment trying to balance life with a newborn and a toddler. I'm sure some of you can relate- the days and nights have been one continuous haze and at this point, i'm lucky if I can sneak a shower in, much less a blog post LOL. I'm cherishing my few minutes of quiet time since the kids are both asleep and the one thing that popped into my mind to share with you is any mom or bride's secret weapon to appear bright eyed and rested- concealer! I can't remember the last time I had more than four consecutive hours of sleep and if you're fast approaching your wedding day, with all the excitement and anticipation, I bet you haven't gotten much sleep either. That's why not just any concealer will do! For me, a good concealer is long lasting, has full coverage and blends well without looking cakey, drying or oily. There are so many concealers on the market, I thought i'd comment on a few that i've had personal experience with.

Stila Perfecting Concealer $23

It went on smoothly but only lasted 4 hours max, after that, it seemed to just fade away. I have normal/dry skin so i'd imagine that on others with oily skin, the lasting power would be even more of a disappointment. I've had the tube for over a year and even with frequent use, still has much product left.

Makeup Forever HD Invisible Cover Concealer $29

Great, buildable coverage. I felt the color matched my skin tone and brightened my under eye circles well. It lasted 8 hours, however unlike Stila, with frequent use, this product lasted only 3 months.

Sephora Collection Perfecting Cover Concealer $16

Thick, not so buildable coverage but if you blend well, a little goes a long way. It covers my dark under eye circles/blemishes like a dream and stays put ALL day. This was a nice surprise as it is by far my fave of the 3 and comes in a bigger tube than Stila so even with frequent use should last a long time. Biggest pro- it's only $16!

I know many celebrities praise Cle de Peau and while i'd like to try out all the hype, I just don't have $70 laying around to spend on concealer! Reviews are definitely helpful, yet they can also be confusing. Looking through the Sephora website, it seems many of the concealers they sell are rated with 4 to 5 stars. I encourage you to take the time to walk in and try on different brands. A couple of the sales reps had recommended other brands I didn't mention, but ultimately it's what works best for you! I feel like concealer is an essential and isn't one of those things you can skimp on. A great concealer can take years off your face and is the foundation to giving you your young, beautiful self back. Kate Middleton did her own make up on her wedding day because she wanted her husband to be to recognize her as she walked down the aisle. I bet she had an amazing concealer on hand! Can you imagine looking at your wedding photos later down the line and saying wow, you can see all dark shadows of stress and sleepless nights on my face- I really wish I invested in some good concealer... don't let that bride be you!

I am by no means a make up expert and i'm sure my makeup artist friends have their own personal faves so if you have one that you love, please let us know about it!

ps- this is my latest blessing and reason I haven't been getting much sleep- my son, Xavier Enzo Rhys. Staying up late taking care of him definitely wears on my face but nothing a lil' dab of awesome concealer can't fix :)

Festive Friday: A Valentine's Day Inspired Wedding

Welcome to the 1st day of February! For me, that means 17 more days (or less) till I meet my lil' him or her! Yes, yes y'all, I will be a mama of three very, very soon! With V-day around the corner, I thought it'd be fitting to do a red and pink post. It's funny how our mind attaches colors to certain months: red, white and blue for July, red and green for December, orange for October etc. I didn't intend to make Fridays color themed days but it's just the way it worked out this time, hope you're still with me :) I'm not sure how it's been for you, but i've found it to be a little disheartening when googling images with words like: red and pink wedding and getting all these pop ups of cheesy, super-matchy collages. Oftentimes simplicity is where it's at; a pop of color here and there, rather than looking like you raided party city or the dollar store LOL. I gathered a few images to share with you that inspired me and hope it brightens up your day too!

Fabulous Friday Color Crush: Emerald Green

Goodbye tangerine tango, hello emerald green! If you have no clue what i'm talking about, the lovely folks of Pantone, Inc. the global authority on color, inspires artists, designers and stylists to color the world. A specific color is chosen each year to represent the trends of the seasons to follow. So if you're wondering why all of a sudden the burst of green everywhere, well now you know!

Tell All About it Tuesday: Vivek + Danielle Featured on Wedding Channel!

...and on the 8th day of the New Year, I woke up from my afternoon nap to find out that one of our real weddings was just published on Wedding Channel (The Knot) in their Wedding of the Day section. Yippee!!!

It really is crazy how social media provides an awesome platform to help people cross paths. Prior to helping Dani and Viv plan their wedding, I didn't know them personally. A huge high five goes out to my husband for blasting my info on Facebook LOL (gotta love proud husbands and their shameless plugs). He was actually congratulating another friend for getting engaged and suggested my services, when Viv, a mutual friend from elementary school, who was just about ready to propose, noticed I was a Southern California wedding planner, contacted me while they were living in New York and the rest is history!

Here's some background, via the bride:

At the time of our engagement we were living in Manhattan. We had four months to plan our wedding, in California, while simultaneously preparing for a move across the globe! Although this sounds like a recipe for disaster, with the help of family, friends, and an amazing wedding coordinator, it was anything but.

We knew working within this timeframe would be stressful, and we would have to be flexible. First, we set our objective: we wanted to have fun. Seriously, that was it! With our out-of-country move occurring two days after our wedding, our big event would also serve as our make-shift going away party.

We planned our wedding together, made all of our decorations, and decided on every detail together, with one exception: I kept one secret. As the ceremony began, I walked down the aisle in a Sari, not the wedding dress we had just taken pictures in! This was my surprise to him, and my way of honoring him and his culture. It was important for us to not only honor each other’s families and heritage, but who we are together. Viv and I are not a very serious couple. We like to laugh and enjoy life. So we knew when it came time for the “first dance” that a traditional slow dance and song just wouldn’t be us. Instead we danced a choreographed routine to Michael Jackson, complete with fedoras and moonwalks! It was so much fun! We even had the DJ start up a slow song as we entered the dance floor which he switched to the real song once we got to our spots. Our guests’ reactions were priceless! As soon as the music switched everyone started clapping and cheering. I believe it’s the little things that make every couple unique and special. Incorporating some of those elements into our day made it that much more meaningful, memorable, and fun.

Tips + Tools Thursday: RINGing in New Beginnings

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I've loved hearing about all the holiday proposals that happened so far and wanted to reach out to some that may still be in the works...

While I was out running errands earlier, I walked by a couple of higher end collateral lenders (aka pawn shops) and was drawn to their eye catching displays of freshly polished wedding band sets when it occurred to me, do people consider getting their engagement rings from these sort of establishments? It may not be one's initial or even ideal place to make a huge wedding related investment, but we often buy many things used- houses, cars, clothes and don't think twice about it. We love items that are unique, custom, have history... so what difference does it make when it comes to an engagement ring? It may have not worked out for one reason or another with the original owner or maybe they got into a financial bind and really needed the money, but these precious sentiments deserve a new beginning as well! Long after the proposal and the wedding day itself, is reality; making it all work and creating new memories. I wanted to bring this to the attention of those who have had it in your heart to propose, yet may find a lack in finances stopping you from doing so. It's about to be a new year and no better time than the present to 'altar' your thinking! If you aren't superstitious and open to a non-traditional way of obtaining a gorgeous wedding ring while getting the most bang for your buck, consider all the rare gems found at your local pawn shop. No one will ever guess where you got it!

Twas the TGIF before Christmas and today's post is all about wedding bars! I'm not talking about the latest and greatest in alcohol selection, rather the quirky, unexpected and often mouthwatering delights or creative favors that guests get to take home. I know the candy and dessert bars are always a huge hit but I especially love going to a wedding where the couple throws you for a curve ball (the good kind)!

Tell All About It Tuesday: A Woodlands Holiday Styled Shoot

I had been planning this shoot for months. I kept checking the weather report hoping that weather.com would miraculously report that the rain had subsided but when we got to Running Springs, it clearly did not. As a result of the rain, we were stuck in traffic, started setting up almost 2 hours behind schedule and were racing against time since the sun would soon disappear. All the outside vignettes I dreamed up would have to be quickly staged indoors and our models would have to pose in the brisk air and rain. But you know what? Everyone made it happen! We braved the rain and in my humble opinion, it worked out beautifully! The outdoor shots in our real Bride's mom's yard turned out stunning, dreamy and romantic. Her cozy cabin gave the detailed shots warmth and intimacy. I uploaded some highlights on our Facebook page and here are some other images that I'd like to share :)

What to Wear Wednesday: Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection at Target

You probably wouldn't put the words Target and Wedding in the same sentence but with all the great designers and higher end brands popping up at your fave local convenient store, makes it all the more exciting to pay closer attention to what glorious stocking stuffers await! Who doesn't love Target? I remember when Gwen Stefani launched Harajuku kids and Missoni debuted; both were a huge hit! Target continually delivers practical needs and style on a budget couldn't be more accessible!

Soon as I walked through the doors this morning, I noticed a huge Neiman Marcus sign that displayed sparkly Marc Jacobs ipad covers (what bridesmaid wouldn't want one?), handsome Rag & Bone shot glasses, nifty flasks for your groomsmen and these super cute Marchesa and Jason Wu holiday dresses that would look so adorable on your flower girls!

What to Wear Wednesday: Mis-Matched Groom(smen)

I remember being in sixth grade and laying out the next day's outfit the night before. My scrunchie matched my double-layered socks and the balance of colors alternated perfectly. Yes, I was that kid! If someone showed me the following photos back then, I would have protested that you're not supposed to mix plaids with stripes and patterns only go best next to solids... I'm sooo glad that I'm way past those days and many others are more open minded about not putting a limit on style, especially when it comes to one's wedding day! Each person that we choose to be a part of our entourage is unique in their own way and how exciting is it to express and celebrate their individuality rather than having everyone look so uniformed. I'm loving that not only do the bridesmaids get to experiment with mis-matchy dresses, but that guys are being more adventurous as well!

Make it Yourself Monday: Mercury Glass

It's the first week of November and although it's 95 degrees in Los Angeles today, I'm reminded that Christmas is around the corner. Aside from the typical reds and greens that adorn the seasonal aisles, metallics have really caught my eye. Something about the subtlety of golds and silvers are a refreshing burst of color during this time of the year.

For our first "Make it Yourself: Monday," I wanted to highlight Mercury Glass. You may have seen it around more and more lately but have not known the term for it. Basically, it's a silvery, mirror-like finish that looks as if it's been a bit weathered. Authentic, vintage mercury glass is not cheap but there is a much more inexpensive way to achieve the same look. Beyond wedding decor, you'll find that it really is a quite versatile look to compliment many styles and color combos within your home.

Thursday Tips + Tools: A Pretty Table For Two

So much thought is put into many other aspects of the wedding that when it comes to setting up the Sweetheart Table, it oftentimes is left up to the florist or wedding planner to make suggestions. I'm so glad to see less requests for traditional head tables as I feel the bridal party should have the freedom to sit with the other guests while the newlyweds enjoy some intimacy.

There are many ways to personalize this small space and tie in your theme or color scheme to create a picture perfect scene without the clutter: add your initials on the table, display a favorite quote, hang a sign on your chairs, a lovely backdrop, low flower arrangement or a few candles and voila- instant awesomeness!

I love the idea of these large, plush vintage chairs pushed closer together of course!

Romantic lighting drapes overhead, with your personal table sandwiched in between two long rectangular tables for an elegant rustic vibe.

I've seen half-moon, circle and mini rectangles often used for a sweetheart table. This vibrant, square table for two is set up quite nicely.

A pretty backdrop adds some flair to a quaint sweetheart table.

A little signage that says it all, combined with the bride's bouquet to finish it off saves money not having to order an extra arrangement and keeps it sweet and simple!

I've found that the times when I do have the money to buy something are unfortunately the times I end up walking out empty-handed and to compensate for that, I enjoy going 'idea shopping!' I browse websites regularly but there's nothing like actually seeing an item in person. For me, idea shopping means getting out there even when you don't have loads of money to shop and checking out the goods for when you finally do have the budget to treat yourself to something nice.

There are times however that I walk into a store I think would be way out of my league and surprisingly find that their brand wasn't as pricey as I thought. Those are the BEST! Two weeks ago, I was at Wedding MBA in Las Vegas. After the sessions I cashed in on some much needed girl time and was strolling through some shops. Tons of great shopping to be had there by the way and The Fashion Show is an awesome mall! One of the more recent additions in that shopping plaza is TopShop. Now I have no clue why I hadn't bothered to shop at the one in LA before but I LOVE their selection! Their day to night options and dressy shoes range from $50 to $300 (many special occassion items for under $100) and are tailored with a classy edge that doesn't scream "I'm a bridesmaid" or "guest of wedding." To get the most bang for our buck, modern brides are now opting for non-predictable styles that can be worn past the 'day of' and are hot enough for a night on the town. See for yourself!

Wedding bands are an outward symbol of an inward expression of your commitment to one another. Most brides get two rings while their groom gets one and yet he too deserves a ring he'll be proud to wear till death do you part. Have you given much thought to the selection out there? I know men's bands don't seem all that different at first glance as we've all heard of yellow, white gold and platinum, but there are a myriad of other options to consider. I sought the advice from a longtime friend of mine who manages online retail jewelry site BelloMarc to share some wisdom on choosing alternative metal wedding bands. Read on to find out just how durable these metals are. A growing trend amongst couples when selecting their wedding bands today is choosing alternative metals as opposed to the traditional gold or platinum versions. When shopping for alternative wedding rings there are certain aspects of each type of metal that needs to be considered in order to make an informed decision about what is the right metal for you.

A very popular alternative metal jewelry is made with the use of titanium. Titanium is not just a song by David Guetta - but it is an element that is low in density enabling it to be lightweight while maintaining its strength, radiance and gray-silver hue. The corrosion-resistant metal has been used by a variety of industries including medical, aerospace and marine. In more recent times jewelry designers have popularized the use of titanium due to its durability as well as its biocompatibility, making it a non-toxic element and ideal for individuals who are allergic to traditional metals such as gold or silver. Titanium rings are resistance to breakage but are still delicate enough to be scratched. Since it is virtually weightless, titanium bands are easy and comfortable to wear. It is the perfect wedding ring for individuals who work with water often since it is corrosion resistant, those who are allergic to traditional metals or for someone who is not used to having a band around their finger or often times find it uncomfortable to wear a ring. No excuses now!

Tungsten carbide is another popular alternative metal. With its high brilliant shine, it is favored by many as an alternative choice for wedding bands. Tungsten carbide is scratch resistant with normal everyday wear and consistently looks new through its glossy polished finish. Although it is scratch resistant, it is still a brittle metal in that when dropped, it may crack. Tungsten carbide rings are ideal for those serving in the armed forces which require a lot of work through the use of their hands. Keep in mind that not all tungsten carbide is created equal. The original patented formula of Tungsten Carbide TC850, is the innovative blend created to be solid, strong, scratch resistant and forever polished to a high gloss finish. Tungsten carbide is available in its original tone of grey-silver, white –a brilliant silver tone, and black. ArtCarved, Benchmark and Triton are among the few labels that use the patented Tungsten Carbide TC850 formula making it more shatter-resistant than its regular non-patented tungsten carbide versions.

Cobalt chrome has made its appearance in recent years to a welcoming audience. Cobalt rings have similar elements as palladium, platinum or white gold. The color is a brilliant white-silver tone and in comparison to palladium, platinum and white gold, it is much stronger. It is also tarnish resistant enabling it to remain brilliant in color and gloss. In comparison to titanium it is also hold hypoallergenic properties but it is denser, similar in weight to that of gold. Cobalt chrome is also brighter in color as opposed to the grey-silver tone of titanium. Benchmark and Triton are two of the limited designers who have been able to incorporate the use cobalt chrome in their jewelry designs.

With alternative metal rings, it cannot be conventionally sized as we normally would with gold, silver or platinum. Most reliable brands offer some sort of lifetime ring sizing exchange so in the event your finger grows or reduces in size, your ring can be exchanged to the correct size for a nominal fee. Always check to be sure your alternative metal wedding band comes with a lifetime ring sizing program and a manufacturer warranty that backs the craftsmanship of each piece.

Masquerade Themed Wedding

It's supposed to be 102 degrees this weekend and still I can't help but look forward to the fact that Fall is coming really soon! As much as I love outdoor weddings and believe me, i've certainly had my fill of gorgeous warm weather weddings, i'm sooo looking forward to the drama and elegant styles of the cooler seasons!

Colder weather means ladies in full length gowns and men in jackets for a formal look, rather than during Spring and Summer when you can get away with the casualness of just a vest, suspenders and a button up. I've been on a David Tutera "My Fair Wedding" marathon these past few days and although i'm not fully caught up, i'm sure this post was inspired by all the non-traditional brides who love bold and creatively detailed weddings.

There are so many ways to implement a masquerade themed wedding and it doesn't just have to be on Halloween, New Years Eve or Mardi Gras! Start by setting the tone with an ornate save-the-date or embellished mask silhouette on your invitation. You can deck your entire reception area out with lavish table cloths, tons of opulent lighting, request your guests to wear either all black or jewel tones complete with their own personal fancy masks. If you're not fully committed to transforming your reception completely, you can dedicate a photo backdrop or booth area with additional masks to provide your guests with and a face painting or mask creating station as a treat for the kiddies. Imagine all the stunning possibilities when you set this theme in motion and each guest brings their character to your soiree!
