The Karen Gregory Story: When Paranormal and myself went on the Gulfport, Florida ghost tour- we were very interested about the story of a woman who was murdered in the early 1980's. Her name was Karen Gregory and it wasn't until the end of the ghost hunt that we heard about her and her ghost. We didn't get the chance to go into the house where she was murdered because there is a woman who does live there and she is very aware of Karen. I will talk about this woman's experience as well. Now, towards the end of the ghost tour, we were told about Karen and the fateful night of her death. She was moving into her fiance's home in Gulfport. He was out of town for a conference. She had gone to dinner with a friend that night and after this dinner, she decided to move more of her belongings into her new home. She came home at midnight and it was one of those dreary, rainy nights. She was getting ready for bed when someone broke into her home and attacked this poor woman. She was raped and murdered and was left in the house for two days. Many neighbors had heard a horrible scream that night, but didn't call the police because they didn't think anything of it or they just thought it was an animal. Karen's body had been there for two days. Her fiance had called her and was worried since she never answered the phone. She was also not at work which made her friends become suspicious. Her fiance became frantic and had called the police to investigate. The police went to the house and found Karen lying in her own pool of dried blood. She was stabbed and there were bloody prints all over her body, but since they found her body laying there for two days, most of the evidence was unusable. The only evidence they had was that of a bloody footprint in the bathroom. An investigation was started but they didn't get a suspect until after a year. They charged George Lewis, a fireman, with the crime who happened to have been Karen's neighbor. George acted like a witness to the crime and told police he had heard screams as well during that fateful night. They were able to convict him because his foot matched the bloody footprint from the bathroom. But since this is a ghost story, there has been many things that have happened in the home of Karen Gregory. In 1994, a woman by the name of Stephanie Berlotti had moved in. Nobody had lived in that house for ten years after Karen's death. Her fiance had moved out after the murder and the place was vacant until Stephanie moved in. She was new to the area, but was aware that a murder had taken place in the home she was moving into. She wasn't prepared for what would happen when she moved into the house. First, Stephanie had noticed that everytime she walked from the bathroom to the bedroom, she had to walk over a dark brown stain. This stain is where Karen died and whose body was there for forty-eight hours. Stephanie had tried to wash that stain out, but everytime she did, it would fade away and then the stain would reappear days later. She now has a rug over the spot. Also, everytime Stephanie would open the bedroom window-the same window in which the murderer entered and exited- the glass would shatter. Her animals would also stare at a certain spot in the bedroom. And if that is not scary enough, there was one time when Stephanie saw a misty image of a woman's face behind her in the bathroom mirror. And when her mother came to visit, she heard footsteps running through the empty house as if a woman was running away from an attacker. Stephanie has made peace with having Karen there and believes that her soul will not rest until George admits to the crime or when he dies. Stephanie believes that Karen does not want anyone to forget the horrible way she died. Many people have requested to meet with Stephanie to investigate and she is open to people coming in the home and to see for themselves. We were tempted to do this, but felt that since this poor woman had died a misreable death, it would be out of character for us to go into her home to see her ghost. Sometimes the dead need respect and when there is residual energy of something terrible that happened to them, it is important to respect that and know that this is someone's home and they don't need ghost hunters barging in a trying to communicate with them. Sometimes it is better to let it be.

Ghost Tours of Tampa Bay

We have to give a big thanks to Ghost Tours of Tampa Bay!!!! It was through them that we had the opportunity to get some really incredible evidence! Ghost Tours of Tampa have ghost hunts all year round. They have a tour guide who tells you the history of the ghosts and the different places. We have managed to do ghost hunts in Downtown Tampa, Downtown St. Petersburg, and Gulfport. What Kinds of Ghost Equipment Do I Need?

Well, there are so many different types of ghost equipment out there that anyone could have a heart attack just picking. That is why we took the guess work out of what you need. And to be honest, you don't need much. When we started out all we had was a digital camera and digital voice recorder. That was it!!!! And we managed to get some really good pictures and EVP's from only those two items. I have made a list of the things you will need based on money:

Little to no Money but want to get evidence

1. Digital Camera- most cameras work but to really get good evidence, we suggest the
Canon PowerShot SD1000 7.1MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver).

This camera has always captured evidence from all kinds of places we have been. We

were able to capture orbs, spirit apparitions, and many more interesting anomalies.

2. Digital Voice Recorder - we highly suggest you get one of these recorders --The voice recorders can pick up sounds from ghosts that the human ear cannot- this is where you will get your EVP's. I have been so surprised to hear evidence of a ghost hunt because sometimes you don't hear anything when you are there, but when you get home and listen to the recorder and put it in computer software- you will be amazed. We recommend the Olympus VN-6200PC Digital Voice Recorder. We have gotten alot of evidence with this little piece of machinery.

1. Buy the two items above

2. Buy an EMF reader- an EMF reader will let you know if there is any paranormal activity around you or in the place you are in-- we have not had much luck with EMF readers, but we know alot of people who do and that is why we put it on the list. We recommend the K-II EMF Meter. This type of EMF meter is very popular. You take the meter and you scan the place, if there is any paranormal activity, the EMF meter will read it and it will spike. Then you can use your camera to take a picture or use your digital recorder to talk to the spirit in the area where the meter had shown the spike.

Okay, then you are really lucky and I envy you.

1. Buy all the items above

2. Buy the IR Infrared Thermometer Gun - this is a fascinating tool because you can use it to gauge the temperature in a place. Usually there will be extreme cold or hot pockets that will let you know that a spirit is there. You can use the gun and point to the area where you are feeling this temperature shift and it will give you a temperature reading. If the temperature all of sudden spikes high or then it spikes low- you have a spirit!!!!!

3. Buy the Cakewalk Music Creator 6 software- Why? Do ghosts like to boogie? No, this is for you to use to gather your EVP's from the digital voice recorder. This is a computer software that you can use for music projects, but it can also be used to listen to your EVP's on tracks. The software is great because you can listen and if you hear something you can enhance it so others can hear it too. You can cut and paste your most important evp's and then make a youtube video- that is for another post.

4. A good set of headphones- you will need these if you are listening to the EVP's on the computer. You will be able to hear alot of evidence just from using the headphones.

In any case, the things we use all the time are the digital camera, digital voice recorder, emf reader, cakewalk software and our computer with headphones. Yes, a computer is really handy- you may want to make a website of all of your evidence and share it with us...

What is Debunking?

Debunking is a fancy way of saying- Is it really a ghost or is it something else that is causing the activity? I am sure you have heard about debunking on those famous paranormal shows, and I know that GHOST HUNTERS debunk alot with their evidence. Debunking is important. You don't want to be one of those people who thinks everything they see or hear is a ghost. Sometimes it might be something else. You want to make sure that the evidence you are getting is legitimate and credible. You want to be able to question anything and be skeptical. Once you rule out other factors, then you can say that the activity could be paranormal. For example, make sure that any cold spots you feel are not coming from an open window or an air vent. Also, if you are taking pictures or video, make sure the orbs are not flying pieces of dust. Orbs are usually a very tight closed circle and the do move. Remember, you want to show the evidence you got but you don't want people to think you haven't checked out all of the factors. Your credibility is more important!!!!!!!

Types of Paranormal Activity

There are many different types of paranormal activity that can occur in an investigation. Here are a list of the many different types:

Spirit Activity

Orbs- these are balls of lights that can move- it usually signifies a spirit energy before it manifests into an spirit apparition.
Spirit Apparitions - an energy form that can look to have human features but is transparent- or has no boundaries- can have no details as well.
Shadows - they appear like dark masses that can appear and disappear.
Poltergeists - these are spirits that like to create havoc by moving objects and making sounds- they are unintelligent and very mischievous.
Demons- these are nasty spirits that are always up to no good.
Crawlers - they are also called night crawlers- they are described to be strange looking- there bodies are stick-like with alien features and they like to crawl up buildings and structures.

Most of our investigations had evidence of orbs, spirit apparitions, shadows--- I did have a personal experience with poltergeists years ago when I was in college- but that is for another story---

We have never seen a crawler but was told that there was one sighted at one of the places we were investigating. Also, we have never picked up on demons- but some of our audio evidence does sound demonic- In any case, you have to have an open mind when investigating. Most of the time you will have intelligent spirits that communicate with you and you will see the orbs in your pictures. In any case- I always find it to be fascinating to see the evidence after a good hunt.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are a paranormal team called "Encounters From the AfterLife". We live in Florida and are considered paranormal enthusiasts-- We basically love everything about the paranormal and have gone on many ghost hunts. We have captured some awesome evidence, armed with just a digital camera and digital recorder. We have watched alot of the Paranormal shows out there, from "Ghost Adventures" to "Ghost Hunters'. But, we wanted to see for ourselves if we could capture a ghost. I guess you can say it is a hobby that we do because we do have normal 9-5 jobs. And I guess I want to let people know that anyone can do this and capture some interesting things on camera or audio. You don't have to be a professional paranormal investigator, but with alot of practice with ghost hunting- you can become one because if you can communicate with ghosts, capture evidence- you are a paranormal investigator- And on that note- we wanted to share information on how we went about in communicating with ghosts and capturing evidence. We know that alot of people are interested in ghost hunting, and alot of people do not know how to get started. We were there and we know how it feels to not know how to communicate with a ghost. That is why we wrote this blog. You will find all kinds of information on here about the paranormal and we are also working on a website where you can see all of our evidence from different places.
