The first time I discovered the effect of alcohol on my sweating I was really surprised. I always thought that drinking too much water would cause excess sweat. Well I have discovered that drinking alcohol does indeed make you sweat more. If you already have a sweat problem then the problem is magnified. I first discovered the problem last summer and wrote about alcohol and sweat to help people realise the connection.

At that time I had no idea that this was a common problem for heavy sweating people. Having done some research I know that most advisers say that you should not drink any alcohol with a sweat problem. The common opinion is that the worst culprit is white wine. There is little variance between a Chablis or a Muscudet Or a Sauvignon Blanc. All of them will get even people without a severe problem sweating after a glass or 2.

An even bigger problem can be found by people at night if they already suffer from night sweating. There is something in these white wines that must effect the sweat glands and wake them up.

I have found that you have to really abstain from wine to stop this contributory factor. Other alcoholic drinks such as beers and ciders are not so bad. The least problems are found with the spirits such as Brandy, Whiskey and Rum. You just need to be careful what mixers you use with them. The main problem is that wine goes so much better with a meal than other drinks.

If you want to stop sweating too much then stopping the drinking of white wine will certainly help. The guide I use to help me,The stop sweating and start living program, doesn’t talk too much about this aspect of sweating but in all other respects it is brilliant. I recommend it if you are in a daily struggle with too much sweat.

Sweating Too Much? How to Stop Sweating Profusely & Enjoy Life Again

By Teresa Tackett

Are you sweating too much? You want to know how to stop sweating to the point that it affects your life. It may be your underarms, face, head or palms, or perhaps it is something that affects nearly your entire body. Don’t feel alone; this condition, known as hyperhidrosis, is very common and affects hundreds of thousands of people. That may not make you feel any better, but you will be glad to know that their are some effective solutions.

Sweating too much can be due to a number of things. It may be caused due to a medical reason, though this is rare. People with diabetes, thyroid problems and certain types of cancer often perspire heavily, so check with your doctor to insure that this can be eliminated from the list. Before you learn how to stop sweating excessively, you want to make certain you are in good health.

Menopause and perimenopause often cause excess sweating, so if you are a woman over the age of 35 or so this may be to blame. Otherwise, hyperhidrosis is likely to blame, which is simply a condition that begins in the sympathetic nervous system and causes your sweat glands to work overtime. This condition in harmless, but very annoying. Here are a few things you might try to stop excessive sweating:

1. Make sure that your antiperspirant really is antiperspirant, and not just deodorant. Try one with aluminum chloride as the main ingredient, or even ask your doctor about a prescription product.

2. Wear loose fitting clothing, and avoid silk or other “slick” fabrics. These usually make the problem worse.

3. Watch your diet. Caffeine and spicy foods often aggravate the condition. Tobacco is a stimulant as well, which may kick the activity of your sweat glands up a notch.

4. If you can afford it, try Botox injections. This works, but at $600 to $700 a pop twice a year, many people find this treatment more than their budget can handle.

People who sweat more than the average person often are more anxious or nervous types, which also causes increased perspiring. Try to reduce stress, and practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or yoga.

Sweating too much is a problem that can rob you of your self confidence, and affects your life in adverse ways. You may avoid people as much as possible. You feel you have body odor, or your clothes are damp due to the heavy perspiring. There are many natural solutions you can try; you do not have to live with this condition forever!

This is an article that I found online that gives good information on what causes nights sweats and how to deal with it – Admin

Hormonal changes commonly related to menopause are the most common causes of insomnia and night sweats. Usually, the hypothalamus, which regulates heat in the body, do its job according with the available temperature. Night sweats and insomnia however happen because of the overproduction of heat of the

hypothalamus.

The decreasing level of estrogen that is connected with menopause, is responsible for the failure of the hypothalamus to regulate body heat, that’s why it perceives an increased temperature in the body. A malfunctioning hypothalamus may also release chemicals that may lead to the dilation of the skin blood vessels for heat release. Night sweats and insomnia may go hand in hand with cold shivering.

Night sweats and insomnia are difficult conditions that menopausal women face. But it becomes even more difficult if women don’t deal with it the right way. The best first thing to do is to know more about night sweats and insomnia so that they are better equipped with the knowledge on how to prevent or control and get help with night sweats and insomnia.

The most important thing is to have good hormonal levels. Support your body and give it what it needs to have good hormonal levels. Learn how to have a healthy body. Follow an exercise program or a healthy diet. A healthy nutrition and enough exercise may not be enough to control your hormones, but this is a good way to start.

Not only do you need to have a healthy diet and a good work out program, you may also have to have hormonal imbalance treatment in the form of alternative medicines.

Help for night sweats and insomnia may be given by a doctor. But here are some general tips to help you reduce the frequency of night sweats and insomnia:

Have a diet that contains fruits and vegetables, grains, fiber and protein. You may also need to sleep in a cool room to avoid too much night sweats. Or if you have no air-conditioning unit, open up your window and use a fan. Before bedtime, take a cold shower first. Not only will this help you with night sweats, this will also help you freshen up after a very busy day. Drink plenty of water each day and have a cold water ready on your bedside table. Support your body with natural supplements to help you control your hormones. Avoid coffee, sugar, hot soups, alcohol and spicy food. As much as possible, stop smoking. To cut down your stress level, exercise regularly. Engage in sports if you must! Not only will this help you boost your sleeping patterns, it will also help you stay fit and young.

Being the most common symptom of menopause, night sweats and insomnia are very inconvenient and may add up to the emotional stress that a women is facing. Because of night sweats and insomnia, many women wake up in the middle of the night because of bed sheets and pillows that are wet with sweat.

A therapy called HRT or Hormone Replacement Therapy can help lessen the episodes of night sweats and insomnia. Not all women are good candidates for HRT though. That’s why it is important for women with such sleeping disorders to consult a doctor to find help for night sweats and insomnia. There are many alternative ways to get help with these disorders. Women just have to discuss their symptoms and difficulties with an able doctor to begin treatment.

issues that meant I couldn’t drink milk. So I started searching for other hot drinks that I could make. The only ones I really enjoyed were the herbal teas. There is a dazzling array of types on sale in supermarkets here in the UK. I’m sure its the same worldwide. But not all herbal teas have the same benefits. Most of them are good for something and you can buy complete books on what to serve up to cure various ailments.

So can herbal tea stop excess sweating? I think it is true to say it can help reduce sweating for some people. It is going a bit too far to say it will actually stop your sweating completely. If you have a sweat problem then you will know that you have a set of your own ways to reduce the sweat problem you have.

Sage Tea for helping reduce sweating.

After looking into the best herbal tea for helping sweat problems the front runner appears to be Sage. The pure and simple herb you can grow in your garden can help with too much sweat. Because it acts as an astringent it can dry your skin and reduce excessive sweat and secretions from your skin. It works on most types of sweat problem including night sweats and hot flushes.

A 2005 study at the School of Public Health, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, found that in a controlled trial sage and alfalfa reduced severe hot flushes by 60% compared with a placebo.

How to Make Sage Tea

To make your own sweat cure herbal tea simply pick 10 sage leaves from your sage plant and put them into a cup. Pour on hot (Not boiling) water and stand for 2 minutes. Remove the sage leaves and drink. I have to say it is an acquired taste. But you can add flavour to mask the sage taste. Lemon, honey or mint work fine.

I haven’t looked for sage tea in the shops as I have plenty of sage in my garden. You can buy sage tablets that will also help with your excess sweat problem.

medical advice straightaway. If however your weakness and sweating is a regular occurence then read on. For many years I suffered from excess sweat and a lightheaded weak sensation. There was nothing that seemed to be causing it – or at least that’s what I thought. Eventually in my early 20’s I decided out of sheer frustration to find out what causes sweating. More recently I found a health program that has all but cured my excess sweating and weakness. Click HERE for more info.

I was surprised at the number of possible causes there are for sweating. In my case the problem was caused by a number of things from the list below. I will spare my blushes by sharing them if that’s OK with you. For you however the group of sweat causes could be different. I found out by experimentation how to reduce my sweating and lightheadedness over a period of about 10 years. I must also thank my wife for helping diagnose some of the triggers that I had not thought of.

The main areas to look at are as follows.

Stress, anxiety and nervousness are now recognised as causing weakness and sweating. I wonder if this is where the saying “weak at the kness” comes from.

What you eat and drink can have a huge impact on your health – including your sweat levels. Spicy foods and alcoholic drinks being the main culprits. Caffeine rich drink also have an adverse affect for some people.

Obesity and being overweight is known to cause sweating and weakness. This is one of the hardest ones to beat as it involves a complete life change to reduce weight.

Time of life changes. The main ones are puberty, onset of menstruation, and the menopause. For teenagers this can be a disaster as the extra sweat and feelings of weakness are awful for a person just finding their way in the world. (It’s hard to impress a girl when your armpits are like a shower of perspirtaion and excess sweat – believe me).

Serious illness is the final area of causes for weakness and sweat. This is often overlooked. The person who has a severe illness doesn’t realise that it might be directly connected to their health problems. I can’t comment on this last one as I have as yet not had a serious illness but I know from others that this can be a real problem.

In some of these causes there is not an easy cure. But for the vast majority you can help yourself by taking the obvious steps to keep your sweat levels down. For me I have to do a number of things that I learnt from the Stop Sweating and Start Living program. I still have the odd weird day when nothing seems to work but for most of the time my sweating and weakness are gone.

I have come to realise in my own journey to stop excess sweating that there are many different types of sweating problems. If you are unlucky then your whole body sweats and you have to deal with what is a huge medical and social problem.

Click Photo To Learn More

For other people who have a sweat problem it is in a small and specific part of their body. There are lots of clever names for different types of sweating like Plantar hyperhidrosis (Hands sweating) and plantar hyperhidrosis (Feet sweating) but these are of no interest to me as a person who sweats too much.
So the most common areas for excess sweat are from the head to toes as follows.

Scalp sweating, Face sweating, Underarm sweating, Groin sweating & Feet sweating.

As well as this there are people who only get too much sweat at certain times in their lives. The most recognised of these are teenage sweating, sweating in pregnancy and menopause sweating.

Can You Stop all the Sweating?
There many sweat cures and remedies and i have tried many of them myself. I drew the line at botox injections however. Far too extreme and invasive for me.
The solution I found was online and is called Stop Sweating and Start Living. You have probably heard of this online program as it has been shown on television in the UK and USA and has been around for a good few years. I found that the natural approach was very easy to follow. I also appreciated the fact that the process is just that – A process. There are no silly and false promises saying you will be cured within 2 days.
Having said this I can say for myself that my sweat problem reduced substantially within 3 weeks and as long as i watch things I have few ongoing issues with excess sweat.

Does This Cure Work For All The Different Types Of Sweating?
I can only really speak for myself but there lots of customer testimonials on the web site that give me confidence to say that all sweat sufferers should try it out. It is certainly better than most of the prescribed products in the chemists and way better than surgery.

You have to keep your sneakers or trainers on because otherwise you will be paddling in your own sweat across a room.

Click Photo To Learn More

As well as all the excess sweat itself there is the smell of sweaty feet as well. Now I have been looking into this on the internet and have discovered that some people “worship” Sweaty feet. There are even smelly feet worship videos. I have no idea what that is all about so I won’t go there. I know from experience the problem of smelly sweaty feet.

When you are choosing footwear you do not want to spend all your days wearing “Jesus Sandals” or flip flops. I hate flip flops and my work does not allow me to wear them anyway. Sneakers and trainers are OK footwear for many people at work and in their daily lives. But what are the best sneakers and trainers for sweaty smelly feet?

I am not going to name brands here because I could get into trouble from some of the big names in the sneakers industry. There are however a whole family of sneakers that you can wear that greatly reduce your sweaty feet problem. If you look at the whole market of trainers and sneakers there are 3 main types.

1. Sports Wear. These are really produced for people to play sports in. They are not designed for casual wear.

2. Standard trainers and sneakers with good grips and long lasting uppers are the second group. These are the worst offenders in terms of too much sweat.

3. Ultra lightweight sneakers. These are by far the best for people who have a sweat problem. I came across these when I saw a friend wearing some. I liked the look of them and asked where they had bought them. I was amazed to find a whole range of sneakers and trainers that were ideal for me as a sweat sufferer as well as looking great and feeling good. The uppers are so thin that they allow your feet to breathe. They also have more air holes in them. When you have them on you hardly know it.

Now your footwear is only a small part of the problem. You also need to deal with the whole issue of excess sweating. I know that programs like Stop Sweating & Start Living Really work through my own experience. But it is good to know the best type of sneakers for sweaty smelly feet. They even look good.

What you eat and drink can have a huge impact on how you control your sweating. As a general rule – the more spicy and “hot” food you eat the more you are going to sweat too much. This is stating the obvious to you if you are coping with excess sweat. But there are ways of cooking food that will reduce your sweat problem.

Click Photo To Learn More

Use Fresh Ingredients

I have found that by cooking and eating fresh ingredients rather than tinned or packaged foods that sweating can be reduced. I am not a scientist but simply know from experience that this is quite an important aspect of controlling excess sweat.

Spices & Herbs

Something worth doing is changing to fresh herbs and spices from the powdered version that you can buy in little tubs. This costs a little more but means you can enjoy the flavours of the herbs and spices without losing control of your sweat glands. An example of this would be a recipe that asks for basil and chilli in it. Instead of breaking open the tubs of processed spices and herbs you could put in a fresh chilli pepper and some fresh basil leaves taken from a plant in your kitchen.

Being sensible with strong flavours

The thing to do is reduce the levels of the flavourings by half and see how you go. For me this is often all I need to do to stop excess sweating. I can still enjoy a mild version of the flavours without creating personal sweating problems for myself. You will never be able to enjoy Chicken Vindaloo (No one really does anyway!) but by using fresh ingredients you will be able to eat much more interesting meals.

Well here in the UK summer has arrived for 2009. I have just spent an idyllic afternoon sitting in my garden in the sunshine. the temperature must have hit 25% centigrade which is very pleasant without being too hot.

Click Photo To Stop Sweating

There is even a cooling breeze wafting across the lawn and I am as cool as a cucumber. So Here I am sitting in the full sun and not a bead of sweat anywhere. Well OK maybe the odd signs of sweating but nothing to worry about. Certainly not the usual excess sweat I am used to having.

Alcohol and Excess Sweating

Then what do I do. I decide that the afternoon would be even more perfect if I had a glass of wine. That was a big mistake. Halfway through my glass of pinot grigio I can feel my temples welling up. Sure enough a few moments later There is sweat pouring down my face. I always find that alcohol affects my face more than anywhere else. Facial sweating is so hard to hide. I was sitting in my patio chair reading a book and my face was like rivers of sweat.

The Bad News About Sweat and Alcohol

For many people with a sweat problem alcohol is the trigger. For some it is the only trigger. For others it is one of a set of triggers. As well as an immediate onset of excess sweat you also will find that you sweat too much in bed. I have often woken up in the middle of the night dripping with sweat because of drinking wine or other alcohol during the previous day.

The Main Culprits

This is not a scientific list – just what I have discovered from experience. I find that certain drinks have a greater affect than others. The worst one by far is white wine. In particular sweet and medium white wine. Then there are sparkling wines, ciders and champagnes. Following this are strong beers and lagers. Then alcoholic drinks that have the least affect on excessive sweating are spirits and red wines.

Alcohol is not good for excess sweat

The best thing to do of course is to abstain completely from alcohol which is what I do most of the time. This afternoon I simply couldn’t resist the idea of a glass of wine on a lovely English summer afternoon. My own fault really.

The first time I even noticed my excessive sweating was as a teenager. I had always sweated far too much as a child and young teenager but it didn’t really matter to me until as a teenager one of my peers told me I was sweating too much. Actually they didn’t phrase it quite as nicely as that and made sure that plenty of other people in my school year were aware of the problem.

Click Photo To Learn More

Being thick skinned it had no affect on me as a teenager because I was mainly into sports and adventure so sweating was a part of life for everyone – just a bit more sweat for me.

When sweating really became a problem

The stress of my first years in work were what really created a problem. I had no idea you had to actually work hard and the demands of my early employers came as a huge surprise. I now see this from the side of an employer and it is much more fun. I discovered that there ia a vicious circle between stress at work and excessive sweating that I was completely trapped in. I had to wear a suit to work which made the sweating even worse and sometimes I would go home mentally stressed and dripping like I had been swimming in my clothes.

How to stop sweating

To solve the sweat problem I started a regime of washing and wear natural fibres. I also started to become less stressed as I got better at my job so I slowly overcame the problem. It would still be there in the background to get me if there was a crisis at work. Now with the methods of the stop sweating and start living program it is easier to keep cool physically and mentally.
