Research4Life announces dramatic increase in peer reviewed research available to the developing world

The recent sharp increase in content is primarily a result of Elsevier’s contribution of 7,000 books in 2011-2. The content available through Research4Life has dramatically increased to reach 17,000 peer reviewed scientific journals, books and databases. Research4Life provides over 6,000 institutions in more than 100 developing countries with free or low cost access to peer-reviewed online content.

Elsevier has launched its second global CodeForScience (CFS) competition, this time in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB), Bangalore, India. CodeForScience is a global series of application development competitions for scientists, researchers and developers. The CodeForScience India competition is co-sponsored by global technology companies, NVIDIA and Thermo Scientific.

Elsevier has signed co-publishing agreements with Tsinghua University Press (TUP). The agreements are for a new series on computational mechanics, and for a book, System Parameter Identification: Information Criteria and Algorithms, edited by Badong Chen, Yu Zhu, and Jinchun Hu, which will be published in 2013. The agreement represents a continuation of strategic partnerships in China, following earlier successful agreements with Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press.

CrossRef Announces FundRef Pilot

CrossRef has announced FundRef, a pilot collaboration between scholarly publishers, such as Elsevier, and funding agencies that will standardize the names of research funders and add grant numbers to scholarly documents. This will allow researchers, publishers, and funding agencies to track the published research coming from specific funding bodies more easily.
