BLIND SPOT DETECTION FOR AUTOMOBILES

ABSTRACT:

One of the most dangerous situations that a motorcyclist can find him/ herself in is in a lane that is about to be taken over by a Car, SUV, or Truck. Many riders spend a lot of time in a vehicle’s blind spot not realizing the dangers that they are in, (the area that is not covered by the mirrors on a car or truck). In order to see this area a driver must turn his/ her head to check what is in their blind spot. Unfortunately a lot of drivers out there don't bother to check their blind spots (they only use their mirrors) before making a turn or lane change. And as a motorcycle rider you don't want to be in that space when the driver of a much heavier vehicle wants to be there as well.

Diagram 2.1 above indicates where the blind spots are located on a car. This is the place where a rider should not spend a lot of time. The easiest way to tell if you are in a vehicle’s blind spot is to look into the car/ truck mirrors, if you cannot see the driver’s face... Guess what? You are in his or her blind spot. This means that you are invisible to the driver, unless they turn their head and check their blind spot before making a move.

WORKING PROCEDURE:

In this project we will connect two ultrasonic sensors at the back side of the vehicle and it will give continuously the distance between the vehicle and the nearby vehicle. By using this distance we will conclude the vehicle is there or not in the blind spot ad if we will give the indication to the driver in the LCD display in the cluster as well as the LED indication in the mirror.

Symbian based robot control using Bluetooth and MEMS

Abstract

In this application we discuss about the utilization of gesture recognition technique on a mobile phone. We also discuss about the possible applications using readily available hardware like mobile gaming or wheelchair control etc.

The proliferation of accelerometers on consumer electronics has brought an opportunity for interaction based on gestures or physical manipulation of the devices. This provides flexibility for the users to employ personalized gestures and make some physical manipulations.

Introduction

Mobile phones are the most pervasive wearable computers currently available and have the capabilities to alter and manipulate our perceptions. They contain various sensors, such as accelerometers and microphones, as well as actuators in the form of vibro-tactile feedback. Visual feedback may be provided through mobile screens or video eye wear. Dynamic input systems in the form of gesture recognition are proving popular with users, with Nintendo’s Wii being the most prominent example of this new form of interaction,

that allows users to become more engaged in video games

[1]. The video game experience is now affected not only by

timing and pressing buttons, but also by body movement.

To ensure a fast adoption rate of gesture recognition as an

ubiquitous input mechanism, technologies already available

in mobile phones should be utilized. Features like accelerometer sensing and vibro-tactile feedback are readily available in high-end mobile phones, and this should filter through to most mobile phones in the future.

Gesture recognition allows users to perceive their mobile phone as an input mechanism.

This application helps in controlling the wheel chair or the robot or a toy car with less physical efforts thus improving overall well being and quality of life.

Implementation

In the cases where a gesture recognition has been implemented on a resource-constrained device, only the simplest algorithms were considered and implemented to recognize only a small set of gestures; only three different gestures were recognized. We have developed an accelerometer-based gesture recognition technique that can be implemented on a mobile phone. The gesture recognition algorithm was optimized such that it only requires a small amount of the phone’s resources, in order to be used as a user interface to a larger piece of software, or a video game, that will require the majority of the system resources.

Sniper Robot

Objective:

SniperRobot speaks of an intelligent robot capable of multiple features like motion detection, video streaming, remote control of robot, positioning of rifle which is mounted on the robot as well as shooting the intruder from a remote end.

This project is applicable in war zone / highly secured areas where public is not entertained. Motion detection is the action of sensing physical movement in a given area. Motion can be detected by measuring change in speed or vector of an object or objects in the field of view. The motion detection module receives a wide-angle camera image (embed in your mobile camera) as input and computes the difference between consecutive images within a local field.

Description:

To start with the setup, take a snapshot of the area to be monitored. Let us call it as reference snapshot. Set the timer (intervals in which new snapshot has to be taken), and decide the threshold value. Once done, mount the camera on the robot with application in the running state. The robot is RF enabled too. Mount the rifle / the gun on the robot.

Initially our robot is in the still state. Takes new snapshots of the reference area, compares it with the reference snap shot for motion, and discards them if no motion detected / motion is in threshold limits. The motion detection is done using piximity algorithm. The moment it senses the motion above the decided threshold limits, it intimates the server PC at the remote end through GPRS. It also starts sending consecutive snapshots of the reference area to the server PC using GPRS connection. As said earlier, the communication between the mobile phone and the PC happens through GPRS. Here distance does not matter as we use GPRS. The administrator at the server end can view the activities at the remote end. Admin can control the motion the robot through RF. Thus while controlling the robot’s movement left, right, etc he can view the video too. Admin, after detecting the target by positioning the robot at the right place, can position the rifle up and down and start shooting the target. We use RF for both positioning of robot and the rifle.

The application has the facility to save and review the pictures at the PC’s end.

Advantages:

Wireless Real time Sensor

Aim

The Aim of the project is to monitor the accidental or illegal variations in sensors such as temperature and voltage. For surveillance purpose web cams are placed in the remote area. These cams images can be streamed to mobile simultaneously on request.

Description

With a mobile device running Symbian OS and our application, all your video and sensor information is at your fingertips. Remote sensing is the small or large-scale acquisition of information of an object or phenomenon, by the use of either recording or real-time sensing device(s).In practice, remote sensing is the stand-off collection through the use of a variety of devices for gathering information on a given object or area. Remote sensing makes it possible to collect data on dangerous or accessible areas.

Simply start the application on your phone, enter the IP address of your sensor Probe, and connect.

Once connected, you can view live streaming video feeds from individual camera or multiple cameras. Features like

A smart home using Bluetooth

Mobile phones have almost become an integral part of us serving multiple needs of humans. This application makes use of the Bluetooth feature of mobile phone as a solution for home automation. It comes handy for disabled and aged people who always depend on others for their basic necessities.

You can control all these by just running an application in your symbian based phone. Bluetooth is the mode of communication between the hardware and you. The entire operations of the sensors and the appliances are controlled with the help of microcontroller.

Symbian is the programming language used at the mobile phones end. In this project the Bluetooth socket module is used to communicate with the hardware. The hardware is connected to mobile through the SPP (Serial Port Profile) for data communication. When the application is opened, it will check for the mobile Bluetooth for on/off. If it is off then it will ask the user to switch on the Bluetooth. Then it will search for the Bluetooth devices nearby and then it will connect to the device through SPP profile.

Automatic Motion sensing

The motion sensor is added in the circuit mainly for the purpose of security for the disabled and aged. This sensor continuously checks for the human IR rays, which can be only detected from the human body. To detect this, a PIR sensor is connected to the hardware and is left out in the unsecured area. Till there is no strange movement in the protected area, the mobile will display “Motion: Normal”. When any human movement is detected in the sensor, it informs to the microcontroller. The microcontroller immediately displays “Motion: Detected” in the mobile phone and displays the activates alarm

Synopsis

Introduction:

With the fast moving technology, we are more and more dependent on computers even our day-to-day activities. People feel crippled when they are unable to access some vital information stored in their computer while away from their computers. This project helps you access and operate your personal PC from a remote place through telephone lines.

This is a speech-based project wherein we are accessing our system i.e. all the contents of the system from a remote place. This remote access is made possible through a telephone line. Only the authentic user can access the system and the authentication is done through keypad..

After the user is authenticated, the different options for the different operations to be performed on the system are read out. We can select the required options through speech..

The different functionalities of the system that can be accessed through the telephone line are:

OPTICAL FIBER COMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR AUDIO SIGNAL WITH DISPLAY

This Kit allows you to send sound through 1mm plastic fibre optic (FO) cable. On the transmitter (Tx) circuit board (marker KIT 26T) there is a microphone and a circuit to modulate the light emitted from an LED. The LED is contained in a plastic case, which allows easy connection of the FO cable. On the receiver (Rx) board (marked KIT26R) there is the photo-darlington receiver unit, a speaker and a circuit to convert and amplify the detected signal back into a sound wave. Because the signal travels in the FO cable as a light wave it is unaffected by any electric or magnetic fields that it travels through. Each board requires a 9V battery. However, for continuous use plug packs would be advised. Fourteen feet of 1mm diameter plastic (FO) cable is supplied. This Kit can be used to send a signal in well over 200 yards of cable. Note that the plastic FO cable used here is not the glass 1-micron FO cable, which is used in long distance (say 20 miles) communications. However, plastic cable introduces most FO concepts, is far easier for the experimenter to use and certainly has definite uses for short distance communication in electrically noisy environments. The kit is constructed on a single-sided printed circuit board (PCB). Protel Autotrax and Schematic were used to design the board.

GSM BASED PC MONITORING SYSTEM

Today’s GSM platform is living, growing and evolving and already offers an expanded and feature-rich 'family' of voice and multimedia services. GSM currently has a data transfer rate of 9.6k. New developments that will push up data transfer rates for GSM users are HSCSD (high speed circuit switched data) and GPRS (general packet radio service) are now available.

Ultimate project for 21^st century. Now a day there is lot of burglary happening across the country. The reason behind this is the robbers are clear that the police can’t make out the exact time of burglary and also they can’t make out place where the burglary is happening.

For example there is device that will inform the police the robbery happened within 5 minutes of the burglary. The police can block the roads within EG20 kilometers range and search for the robber’s .as the robbers cannot go away within 5 minutes out of 20 kilometers range.

So keeping this in mind, we are designing a device that uses the latest mobile technology called GSM modem technology. One advantage in this technology is that any data to be transferred can be done without any wire communication that is the wireless communication. In recent days the communication used for conversation is the mobile communication. But in this project we will use for the security purpose.

SOFTWARES USED:

Embedded C, Keil demo version with simulator, express PCB and Express schematic.

WORKING PRINCIPLE: GSM (GLOBEL STANDARD FOR MOBILE COMMUNICATION).

In this project we use an 89c51 microcontroller, which belongs to the Intel 8051 family
Architecture. This particular microcontroller is wired to GSM modem through the serial
RS 232 UART.The EEPROM memory, RTC DS 1307 (real time clock) ,relays for controlling the machines, input drivers to connect for the sensors and other accessories as shown in the block diagram.

The GSM with micro controller will be wired to the machine to some sensors like temperature sensor, window sensor, rpm detector, access control and an emergency alarm or the main power switch. Whenever any sensors send an output, the GSM device will analyze according to what we have programmed and then it sends to the micro controller. The micro controller will check this command in the database and then sends the required SMS to the owner by connecting to the GSM modem connected to the micro controller. Or even it makes a call to the required person. If the person sends any SMS to the particular mobile the micro controller will receive it and then process according to the command.

The main features of this project is that One relay can be made switch off and on a particular date and time .The machine production can also monitor in this project .The microcontroller will send the production out put every one hour. We can also send SMS and find out the production at that time. We can also know the machine condition like the RPM of the motor; the voltage etc .We can also control the machine working through SMS.

E.g. If we send the SMS “switch off the machine”, The SMS is sent through the network to GSM module .The GSM module will receive this SMS and the GSM modem will intimate the microcontroller that it has received a message.
The microcontroller will send a request command to the modem to send the message with the sender phone number.

The microcontroller will receive this data and first verify the phone number with master (owner) phone number .if it matches then it will compare the SMS with the stored SMS in the database. When any of the SMS matches then will see what function has to be carried out, once this SMS is received .If the function is to switch off the machine then it will switch off the machine.

Comfort GSM Module

The UCM/GSM provides a cellular phone connection to Comfort. This gives Comfort the following abilities;

1. Acts as a backup for alarm dial-out when the land line is faulty or cut.

2. Allows the user to dial to the GSM number instead of the land line to access Comfort menus. There is no voicemail on this line.

3. Allows Comfort to report alarms to the users cellular phones via SMS (Short Message Service).

4. Allows users to send commands to control home appliances and the security system via SMS.

Requires a SIM card to be inserted, just like with a cellular phone.

How?

The GSM modem is connected to the micro controller. This device will be wired in a house to some sensors like door sensors (PIR sensor movement detector), smoke sensor and an emergency alarm. Whenever any sensors send an output, the device (GSM mobile) will check it with its database and then sends the SMS or it makes a call to the required person.

EXAMPLE:

If some one opens the door forcibly, the device will dial the police number or any number stored inside the controller and will send SMS to the owner.

Think your old parents are inside the house and some robber has entered the house. There will be panic switches wired in the house in all rooms.

Who ever is inside the house can press the button, immediately the siren starts on and the device will start sending the SMS and start calling the numbers.

Like this we can also have a medical emergency switch the device will call the family doctor and also send an SMS . where we can incorporate many functions as required.

Working

As shown in the circuit diagram, the transistor SL 100 is working as switching the relay. When there is no light the LDR gets high resistance and the transistor is in reverse bias condition, and the bulb gets ON. When light falls on the LDR, it goes low value of resistor and the transistor gets forward bias and it energise the relay and it switched off the bulb. The resistance 10 K, 180 ohm provide negative bias to the transistor. The base voltage can be set by the variable resistor 50K.

GSM modem is a device, which has all the protocol of GSM standards embedded into a micro controller and this function are controlled by standard AT commands of GSM technology.In this project we use an 89c51 micro controller , which belongs to the Intel 8051 family Architecture. This particular micro controller is wired to GSM modem through the serial RS 232 UART . relays for controlling the machines, input drivers to connect for the sensors and other accessories as shown in the block diagram. The GSM with micro controller will be wired to the machine to some sensors like bomb detector,. Whenever any sensors send an output, the GSM device will analyze according to what we have programmed and then it sends to the micro controller. The micro controller will check this command in the database and then sends the required SMS to the owner by connecting to the GSM modem connected to the micro controller. Or even it makes a call to the required person. If the person sends any SMS to the particular mobile the micro controller will receive it and then process according to the command. The microcontroller will receive this data and first verify the phone number with master (owner) phone number .if it matches then it will compare the SMS with the stored SMS in the database. When any of the SMS matches then will see what function has to be carried out, once this SMS is received .If the function is to switch off the machine then it will switch off the machine.

INTRODUCTION

Telephone is the most useful and widely accepted innovations of this century. It is thru this medium that people come together even though residing at different parts of the globe. Due to the advancement in this technology not only voice but data as well as video information could be transferred.

With respect to dialing telephone instruments can be divided into two types, the rotary dialing type and the pushbutton type. The former type generates pulses mechanically and the latter electronically. Talking about pulses they are generated by the make/break of contacts, which actually connect/disconnect the line connected to the instrument, which travel across the line and the exchange recognizes them as numeric information. The advantage of the keypad type is that the keystrokes are recorded by an I.C, so that we dial at our will and still the pulses are sent in their normal and fixed duration and speed. The added advantage being that we also have redialing.

This form of dialing becomes tedious especially when dialing long numbers. So a new adaptation was invented known as tone dialing also known as fast dialing by many of then. The principle behind this technique is that every key is assigned a unique (or two!) tone or frequency. So 8 digits only generate 8 different tones instead of a multitude of pulses depending on the digits pressed. The technology is known as DTMF dialing (Dual Tone Multi-frequency). There is no make/break of the line so the person in conversation could even press the keys and the person on the other side can also here the tone. It is this concept that this project is banking on. The tones received are decoded into their relevant digital information, which becomes purposeful data to operate the unit.

Note: The telephone instrument could be switched into tone dialing mode by pressing the <*> button before dialing or some equipments have a permanent Tone / Pulse switch.

Now a days the RTO staff are sitting in the road side and verifying the car details ie insurance ,road tax and driving license from the pass book manually .It will take more time for checking for all the documents and it delay the travels to avoid this here we designed a automatic RTO verification. when any car (veh) passing the office it will detect the car information in the computer automatically. it have all information if any one is not correct or missing it will send messages to the other red light traffic signal and the police men can catch the car

Before starting car it will ask password if your pass word is correct then only it will start . All the details of the driver is stored in EEPROM card .when we plug in the card, inside the socket it ask pass word

INTRODUCTION

Defense is an integral part of a nation. It will protect the nation from enemy attacks. Missile gun vehicle or war tanker is one of the main firing source of defense. To handle a missile gun vehicle, a group of 8 soldiers are required. To fire on to the enemy, soldiers has to wait for the order from the control room. If the order is delayed then the soldiers life will be in danger, Which causes heavy loss to defense the technology used in missile gun vehicle is old & its efficiency is less as compared to the new one. Missile gun vehicle is run by fuel which is uneconomical.

To avoid all the above disadvantages of missile gun vehicle, we have designed & fabricated, a prototype of new technology war tanker named as ROBO MISILE. It is a embedded system which makes use of micro controller for its working. The vehicle is controlled from the control room & it has many features as mentioned below.

ROBO MISSILE can be controlled by both manual & automatic mode through remote control. We can control the movement of the vehicle, speed of the vehicle, firing of the missile by sitting in the control room. When the firing sound comes, it is sensed by the sound sensor in the vehicle & it is retransmitted to the control room. If any light falls on the light sensor part of the vehicle, it will inform to the control room & the further action can be performed. If the vehicle is working in automatic mode it will intimate the control room about the enemy as well as it fires in both the cases.

An TR TRANSMITTER & IR RECIEVER is used which helps us in controlling vehicle movement. It stops the vehicle if any obstrucle comes on its way. IR TRANSMITTER & RECIEVER is also used for automatic firing. A SPY CAMERA is used to view the position of the enemy, position is also controlled through remote control. The SPY CAMERA is mounted on a stepper motor which rotates from 0° to 180°. This will help us to watch the enemy on either sides & to fire as desire.

Hoping that to do a valuable & successful project, we have done the above in order to contribute something use full for DEFENCE OF OUR NATION.

The pic and place robo is used to pic the material from one place to another place control through PC . It has along arm that extends several feet from a heavy base. The end keeps the crane from tipping over. The end of the jib has a pulley. A rope, with a lifting hook in the end runs from pull to a winch (crank) in the foundation. The operator turns the winch to lift or lower the hook the arm is lowered. Thus a robo move a weight to any point around the circumference of the circle its jib makes. The pillar jib has a pillar rising from its base a cable attached to the top of the pillar rises and lowers the end of the jib so that the jib can be moved up and down as well as from side to side. When the jib moves up it carries the load toward the base of the robo lowered. It moves the load away form the base. Factories and foundries often use. This type of robo moves back and forth on a bridge extending across the width of a factory building. .

The GSM platform is a hugely successful wireless technology and an unprecedented story of global achievement and cooperation. Today’s GSM platform is living, growing and evolving and already offers an expanded and feature-rich 'family' of voice and multimedia services. GSM currently has a data transfer rate of 9.6k. New developments that will push up data transfer rates for GSM users are HSCSD (high speed circuit switched data) and GPRS (general packet radio service) are now available. Ultimate project for 21^st century. Now a day there is lot of burglary happening across the country. The reason behind this is the robbers are clear that the police can’t make out the exact time of burglary and also they can’t make out place where the burglary is happening.

For example there is device that will inform the police the robbery happened within 5 minutes of the burglary. The police can block the roads within 20 kilometers range and search for the robber’s .as the robbers cannot go away within 5 minutes out of 20 kilometers range. So keeping this in mind, we are designing a device that uses the latest mobile technology called GSM modem technology. One advantage in this technology is that any data to be transferred can be done without any wire communication that is the wireless communication. In recent days the communication used for conversation is the mobile communication. But in this project we will use for the security purpose.

Whenever any sensors send an output, the GSM device will analyze according to what we have programmed and then it sends to the micro controller. The micro controller will check this command in the database and then sends the required SMS to the owner by connecting to the GSM modem connected to the micro controller. Or even it makes a call to the required person. If the person sends any SMS to the particular mobile the micro controller will receive it and then process according to the command. The main features of this project is that One relay can be made switch off and on a particular date and time . E.g. If we send the SMS “switch off the gate”, The SMS is sent through the network to GSM module .The GSM module will receive this SMS and the GSM modem will intimate the micro controller that it has received a message .The micro controller will send a request command to the modem to send the message with the sender phone number.

The micro controller will receive this data and first verify the phone number with master (owner) phone number .if it matches then it will compare the SMS with the stored SMS in the database. When any of the SMS matches then will see what function has to be carried out, once this SMS is received .If the function is to switch off the machine then it will switch of the machine .

SOLAR TRACKING SYSTEM

With the technical advancements in the daily life. Man has always tried to re-innovate himself to the furthest frontiers in his field. This has led to the design of the advanced Micro Controllers called PIC micro controllers; we have used the same in our project.

In this project we are acquiring the data from the light intensity senses. Which are then fed to the comparators, and then they are fed to the PIC. The software is developed in the PIC such that. It collects the data from the comparators and then drives the stepper motor either in the clock wise or in the anti clock wise direction using the relay driver IC.

Here, depending on the light that falls on both the sensors, there will be a slight potential difference and this causes the PIC to drive the stepper motor till both the sensors gets the same light intensify and at this point of time the motor stops and thus indicates the correct location required by the software.

The project entitled PIC Micro contoroller solar tracking system provides energy by makes the maximum utilization of solar energy.
When light falls on the sensor. Sensors sensed the intensity of light and make stepper motor to trace the light source.
In this two LDR's, PIC micro controller, one comparator and stepper motor is used.
It is widely used by the power companies, solar monitoring stations, high voltage labels and in the R & D industries etc.
