As the temperature drops, Emmy and I can’t help but miss warm summer days filled with bonfires by Lake Mendota and Babcock ice cream on the Terrace. Does that sound fun to you? How about that PLUS learning about all of the super cool opportunities offered through studying science and engineering? Apply to ETC Camp before January 31st so that you too can enjoy a scoop of Blue Moon while learning about the physics of how ice cream freezes!

We would like to introduce the new co-chairs of ETC – *drum roll….. – meet Cassidy Schneider and Emmy Russell (circled in photo below)!  Of course, all of our counselors for ETC 2015 were amazing, and we would like to thank them all so so much.  Feel free to get to know our co-chairs better by reading their camp bios from ETC 2015.  Good luck to them next year – only 332 days until ETC 2016!

Meet the new co-chairs for ETC 2016 – Cassidy and Emmy!

I have been dreading writing this because I know this will be last ETC post for at least 2 years.  First off, we would like to thank everyone involved in last month’s week long camp – presenters, tour guides, speakers, housing, UW-Madison, Society of Women Engineers, counselors, and of course the campers for attending!  We hope camp was just as fun for you minions as it was for us co-chairs and counselors.  Every year we strive to make your experience here at UW more engaging and exciting, so please tell us what you thought about the activities and fill out those daily evaluations (aka check your email) and the housing evaluation!  Well, I will keep it short, again thanks to everyone who made ETC 2015 such a success this summer.  Feel free to reach out to any of us counselors and co-chairs anytime in the future, as well as the any of the presenters.  We may send you an email or two in the future, asking if you continue pursuing a degree in science/engineering.  Again thanks so much for showing interest in becoming future problem solvers of the world – #EngineersRock Till next time!

Good news, camp is just around the corner, and we honestly can’t be any more excited!  Just as a final reminder/update, camper check in is on Sunday, June 14th from 2PM – 4PM at Dejope Residence Hall (address: 640 Elm Drive Madison, WI).  We sent out an email detailing what items you should bring along – see below for the entire list:

Clothing

Closed-toe shoes for ALPs workshop

Shorts/jeans depending on whether

T-shirts

Sweatshirt/Jacket

Umbrella and/or rain jacket

Comfortable Tennis shoes (we will be walking quite a bit everyday)

Personal Items

Toiletries

Shower flip flops

Bath Towels and a hand towel (bathrooms do not have paper towels)

Pillow (one will be provided, but you may want your own; bedding is also provided)

$10 for dinner on State Street (and any additional spending money you may want to bring)

Alarm Clock (or cell phone with alarm)

Medicine

• We suggest that you do not bring over the counter medicines (UHS will have them

available if your parents gave permission on the Health Form)

• Any prescription medications will be handled by University Health Services (UHS)

Snacks (there will be a refrigerator in each room, but no microwave)

*Fans are not needed as the rooms are air-conditioned

Cell Phone

No phones are provided in the residence hall rooms

Use of cell phones won’t be allowed during camp activities, but all campers are highly encouraged to have it in their possession

For the Outdoors/Free Time

Water bottle – It’s important to stay hydrated in the summer heat, and there are many water fountains/bubblers to fill up water bottles

Notebook – for taking notes!

Small bag to carry keys and handouts

Bug spray

Sunscreen

Camera

Sunglasses/Hat

Appropriate movies

Games, Frisbees, or other activities for during free time

There is a lot of field space to play soccer, frisbee, etc

A positive attitude and open mind!

Finally campers, don’t forget to complete and submit the ETC 2015 Contact Google Form that was sent out in an email last week.  If you have not received this email, let us know and we will send you the link to the Google Form.  Please be sure that the phone numbers you provide are correct – as our counselors will be reaching out to you a couple days before camp – as well as throughout camp.  Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns before camp at: etccampmadison@gmail.com.  Thanks for reading, and we can’t wait to meet you all so very soon!

We are super excited for ETC 2015 to begin in just 4 short weeks from today.  Campers – stay tuned for more information on what to bring, travel suggestions, etc… (aka CHECK YOUR EMAIL!)  For those who have not sent in your registration forms – only 7 of you – please do so ASAP!!!  Also, please be sure to complete and submit an entry in the updated Google Form sent out in an email a week ago.  This Google Form is very important, as it has crucial information that we need to pass on to housing, parking, ice cream, and t-shirt representatives!  Finally, campers be sure to take a look at the counselor bios we sent out via email – here to you see and learn more information about our fantastic ETC 2015 Counselor Crew!  We are looking forward to meeting you all in just 4 weeks.  As always, please email us if you have any questions/concerns at: etccampmadison@gmail.com
