A small addition to the private lessons offered! I have been asked by a number of students who have much motivation but little time, whether I could offer private lessons over Skype.

I am happy to say I am now offering online lessons (primarily conversation lessons) to those who are interested. Each 60 minute online class is 25 euros in cost. For more details or for any questions and concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.

Firstly, we would like to introduce ourselves to you.

We are a small, young and dynamic company who have a passion for the English language. Although we are a new company in Amsterdam, we have had extensive experience in helping students achieve their language related goals throughout Europe for a number of years. We have held Business English classes at a wide range of companies including E-bay, Siemens, Deutsche Telekom, and Deutsche Bank among others, and have been teaching both private students and companies General English in Germany, Greece and Canada. We are now happy to finally be able to bring our excellent services to Amsterdam.

Please be aware that all lessons are private lessons (one-on-one) unless otherwise mentioned.

-SINGLE PRIVATE LESSON/ 30 EUROS/ 60 MINUTES

-SINGLE PRIVATE LESSON/ 55 EUROS/ 120 MINUTES

-TOEFL TRAINING (ONE LESSON)/ 40 EUROS/ 60 MINUTES

PAYMENT METHODS

Payment is made either after every lesson or per bank transfer. Students who are interested in making payments via a weekly/monthly bank transfer, will receive a reduction in lesson fees if payment is made in advance.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Please be aware that once a student has made the decision to work with us, a security deposit of an extra 15 euros is required. If a student would like to cancel a lesson, they will need to cancel at least 24 hours in advance. If a student neglects to cancel a lesson 24 hours in advance, the 15 euro deposit will be kept by us. The 15 euro fee will be given back to a student once he or she has completed their time with me, without any last minute cancellations.

I have recently had quite a few requests to offer test preparation courses and have decided to do exactly that! Perhaps you are hoping to study abroad or need to have one of the above tests for your next career step. We all know that these tests are quite demanding and often very frustrating! It can indeed be quite intimidating at times- and we teachers most definitely know and understand that! My goal is to help you be as prepared as possible for your exam- to build your confidence as well as build the necessary skills needed to pass the exam. In our private lessons we of course focus on a wide range of aspects concerning the English language. Not only do we work together to improve and perfect your grammar skills, but we also intensively train your conversation skills and take a close look at the world of pronunciation as well as enunciation. I will also incorporate a wealth of material during our lessons that will be aimed at keeping you motivated and excited about the learning process while at the same time solidifying your knowledge of the language. Most importantly we will sit together and discuss your needs and goals, and once we have a clear idea of what these are and how we will achieve them, we will be ready to start!

When I first moved to Amsterdam, one of my first missions was to find a bookshop that sold English books. I was pleasantly surprised when I not only found English books, but whole shops that specialized in English books! Now, I must say, it is very likely that you will bump into me in one of these places at one point or another, as I am absolutely addicted to books! Below I have compiled a list of the above mentioned bookshops, as well as other information that you may find helpful. We sell a unique literary collection of books which is probably not found in major bookshops. We also have a good selection of children's books, a small but fine selection of poetry, cookbooks, history books, travel books and biographies. We also sell books by Dutch authors that have been translated into English. Furthermore, we hold regular and irregular book-related events like our very popular book clubs, author readings, creative writing courses etc. For children we organize story readings, a playgroup for the youngest ones and much more. Some Information About The American Book Center

In 1972 a couple of young enthusiastic Americans came to Amsterdam, the city where anybody, anything and everything goes, and decided to open a store with American erotic magazines and book remainders bought for 10 cents a pound dry weight...that was over 30 years ago!

Today the American Book Center has grown in one of the biggest, maybe even the biggest source of American (and British) language books on continental Europe with not only a store in Amsterdam but also one in The Hague (which opened in 1976) and we had one in Leuven, Belgium (from 1999 to 2005).

We have our very own Treehouse (Amsterdam) and Treehut (in The Hague) where meetings, readings and other events are organized.

Himalaya, a Bookstore and Tea-house, is an ideal retreat for anyone who desires a spiritual experience. Located between the busy streets of Red Light District and the Dam, Himalaya creates an ambience described as an Oasis by its many happy customers.

Best place for the international press. Not only all the most important newspapers and weekly magazines but also a very good choice of fashion and photography magazines (Spui 16).

Athenaeum bookshop
Most prestigious bookshop in town. All recent events in literature are represented here, also in English (Spui 14).

Boekenmarkt
A selection of rare modern books, mostly about art and photography. Several small bookshops out of Amsterdam keep their stands (in front of American Book Center, only on Fridays).

Within a walking distance from the Spui:

Scheltema – the biggest bookshop in Amsterdam
Best Dutch bookshop in town with a good coffee bar on the first floor. Many books in English. Also international press. Sales usually on the fourth floor (Koningsplein 20).

De Slegte – a supermarket with book surpluses and discounts. Also the old books department. Many books in English. Cheap maps and guides about not only Amsterdam and the Netherlands but also the whole world. (Kalverstraat 48-52).
