Ian Tree, chief architect at IT consultancy Hadleigh Marshall Netherlands b.v. has initiated an interesting movement: ask to IBM to transform the Notes/Domino product line into an Open Source, Community Development offering. Notes/Domino has been loosing traction in the past with the rise of Web technologies. Notes/Domino is still a cash cow for IBM. It is probably a large and complex piece of software probably not ready to be managed by a community. Anyway, Ian’s arguments make sense. Read his open letter and vote for or againt the idea on IdeaJam.

If Open office 3.0 is still not at Office 2007 level (lake of Smart Shapes for example) or still copying Office 2007 mistakes (still no TOC in Impress, as in Powerpoint), this release is a major one and is confirming that Microsoft has a real competitot when it comes to Office apps.

A comic has been released by Google to some bloggers. It explains very well the concept and what Chrome will bring to user experience.

Of course Chrome will integrate Gears (off line mode), Gtalk, Google Docs and others Google wanna-kill-MS services. And since Google knows, they leveraged open source project (like the great Apple Webkit and the world famous Firefox), and they will give back many thing in open source.

Trust me. Fun is ahead.
