"I don't believe in anything," Joker climbed to the top of the movie and said, "I just thought my move would be good." It admits to dressing like a clown. The Joker is the most intense story ever produced. He will probably keep this crown in the coming days. This is because director Todd Phillips' superhero movie is, and more precisely, adorning a control film in the trash of an art house movie. The look doesn't have the perfect place age suit. There are no creative special effects that can hit your mind. What you get brings life to a dark, medieval city. A dwarf camera that makes the ugly Gotham City look as real as anyone going to the real world metropolis. And most importantly, what you get is a method actor who wants to put all the secrets of his art into a comic book. Take a summer for Joaquin Phoenix, for an Oscar-worthy performance.

Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) works as a day clown and a stand-up comedian at night. And both are very bad. He cares for his suffering mother Penny (Frances Conroy) in the middle and maintains a rather lonely existence. He suffers from a behavioral disorder that causes him to burst into laughter at any time. He is lonely, unable to make contact with anyone or anything, and lives in a segregated society. It's a society that blinds anyone like him. His suffering does not matter because he has become invisible in their eyes. Something is upset when a group of boys beat her. When that happens again. A group of stock brokers want him to work on the train, he responds by pushing them with bullets. Amazingly, this moves between the downward masses that are fed by system failure and the arrogance of the rich. In scenes reminiscent of V For Vendetta, they take to the streets wearing clown masks. There are riots and looting everywhere, but there is no superhero who needs to fix the right things. Rather, the controller is born out of chaos. An anti-hero for whom violence is the only solution ...

Joker is Joaquin Phoenix's tour de force. The way he brings to life every facet of Arthur's troubled existence is a master class in acting. The actor allegedly lost 24 kg to achieve the framework needed for the role.
His Joker can't be compared to Heath Ledger, Jared Leto or Jack Nicholson's versions. Unlike them, he doesn't fight superheroes. He is not a Batman's nemesis or his alter ego here, the way the character has traditionally been portrayed so far. It was a formidable decision by the director to be a superhero in the film and it helped Phoenix to portray the character as an emotionally disturbed, mentally unstable individual who responds to the apathy around him and is included in it. Zazie Beetz is good as the woman who gives him some kind of support. And Frances Conroy is brilliant as Arthur's mother. We wish there was more of her in the film.
Director Todd Phillips is known for his Hangover trilogy and has reinvented himself with such a defining film. The origin stories can never be the same again ...

STORY

Young Karam Singh (Ayushmann Khurrana) living in Mathura with his father Jagjit Singh (Annu Kapoor) is troubled by unemployment. The father runs a grocer's shop, but his house is mortgaged and he also has loans from several banks. Another issue with Karam Singh is that he extracts the voice of the girl very beautifully from childhood and that is why she is given the role of Sita and Radha in Krishnileela in Ramlila in the locality since childhood. He also earns money from his roles and gets a lot of recognition, yet Jagjit Singh has objections to this son's art. He wants Karam Singh to get a respected job. In search of a similar job, Karam Singh gets a job in Chhotu's (Rajesh Sharma) call center on a thick salary, but the condition is that he has to make a sweet voice and talk sweetly to the clients by removing the girl's voice. Keeping in mind the needs of debt and home, he agrees to become the voice of worship. Apart from his friend Smiley (Manjot Singh), this secret is not known to his fiancée Mahi (Nusrat Bharucha). The voice of Karam, who is doing pooja in a call center, speaks of love, talking to policemen like Rajpal (Vijay Raj), Mahi's brother Mahendra (Abhishek Banerjee), Kishore Toto (Raj Bhansali), Roma (Nidhi Bisht) and so on. The father jumps up the head of Jagjit Singh so much that everyone is mad at his love and is eager to get married.

REVIEW

For the first time, Raj Shandilya, who took the reins of direction, has given a clean comedy. Being a well-known writer, he has created moments of humor and entertainment in the story, but despite this, the first half does not look so tight. Nothing much happens in the story until the intervening time, yes in the second half the story picks up its pace and laughs at the pre-climax due to a comedy of error. In screenplays too, jhol is seen at many places. The director has also made haste to develop the love track of Ayushmann-Nushrat. At the end of the film, Raj Shandilya has tried to give a message that in social media countless friends, every man is alone, but his message does not touch his heart.

Ayushmann Khurrana has proved hilarious in the film. His voice modulation and body language as Pooja makes him laugh and laugh. He has done justice in every way with the role given. Nusrat Bharucha has not got much of a chance on screen, yet he has done a good job. Annu Kapoor entertained by playing the role of Jagjit Singh in the supporting roles. The comic timing of Annu Kapoor turned Pooja's love to Majnu is worth watching. Manjot Singh and Vijay Raj are also not lagging behind. Actress Abhishek Banerjee, Nidhi Bisht, Raj Bhansali and Dadi Bani Seniar in other roles have done a good job. In the music of Meet Brothers, 'Dil ka Telephone', 'Radhe Radhe' songs are being liked. His choreography is also visible.

Director Raj Shandilya proves from the first film with a great script that his directorial grip does not loose frame by frame. Talking about acting, Ayushman Khurana is once again beaten. Nushrat Bharucha as Mahi is not only beautiful but she has also done excellent work. Annu Kapoor is a very talented artist, her presence adds to the film, apart from this Manjot Singh makes a strong presence! Artists like Vijay Raj Rajesh Sharma Raj Bhansali Abhishek Banerjee give credibility to the film.

The music of the film is very good in Meet Brothers ... Overall Dream Girl is a very entertaining film that you can enjoy.

Pailwaan movie review: 2019

Director S Krishna has good ideas for making commercial films larger than life. For example, his previous film Hebbuli, starring Sudeep in the lead role, revolved around a highly trained commando on a path of revenge. A soldier, whose specialty is to perform surgical attacks in the enemy's territory, faces untrained and low-life, urban criminals. The premise provided the director with sufficient opportunities to present a non-stop action movie that could keep the public on the edge of his seat. But, S Krishna ruined it. He turned it into a hero-worship movie, where he couldn't even make Sudeep move like a command that performs undercover operations.

I'm afraid he repeated the mistake with his latest movie Pailwaan, starring Sudeep in the lead role. What happens when you put a hardcore fighter in a boxing ring? In the real world, without proper training, the fighter could be taken out of the ring on a stretcher. But, in S Krishna's movie, of course, the same fighter would make professional boxers look like a lot of fans.

The film follows the story of Krishna, an orphan, who fights on the streets for a wager to feed hungry kids. The size of the heart of young Krishna impresses Sarkar (Suniel Shetty), a champion wrestler, so much that he adopts him. And he imparts his wrestling knowledge to Krishna who grows up to become a very formidable champion in the sport. We meet the grown-up Krishna (of course, after a sufficient build-up) working out with mace and weights made of stones, like an ancient Hindu warrior. And then, in slow motion, he walks to the arena, where he is about to wrestle with an opponent who looks much bigger than him. As the contest begins, Kirshna decimates his rival and immediately we slip into the title song, Baaro Pailwaan...

The song is choreographed by Ganesh Acharya with the sole intention of giving Sudeep ample opportunity to flex his newly constructed muscles. And Sudeep embraces the movements of showing his biceps with the enthusiasm of a teenager who achieved his first milestone in fitness. There is nothing wrong with that. As the saying goes, if you have it, presume. But, not just the song, the whole 3-hour movie feels like an opportunity for Sudeep not to flex anything but the muscles.

S Krishna seems to have written this film before demonetization and the #MeToo movement since his writing has not been affected by two of these historical events. The role of the heroine, played by Aakanksha Singh, is misspelled. The character is reduced to the sweet arm of the hero who does not deserve to be the only one. In addition, the way the hero perceives heroin is also very regressive.

Krishna almost immediately begins to deter Rukmini (Aakanksha) when he thinks she has a habit of drinking and smoking. He becomes too critical and states that a woman who does it is not culturally and traditionally appropriate. But, when he learns that everything was a misunderstanding and that she does not drink or smoke, he begins to imagine her again. Don't you think it's time for conventional filmmakers to stop gender stereotypes?

Sudeep does a lot for the script that the clichés-filled script does for him. In one scene, he drowns tears because he cannot respond to a girl's difficult situation. The scene is an example of Sudeep's ability to deliver real performance. All that is needed is a filmmaker who can write strong scenes that can take the actor out of Sudeep. Unfortunately, Pailwaan is not that movie.

Director S Krishna has spent so much time spinning, it seems too late to keep our attention when he finally puts Krishna in the boxing ring. I thought boxing would be the main course of this movie. But it turns out it's just a dessert at the end of the meal. And neither of the delicious type. Boxing sequences are poorly researched and organized uncomfortably.

However, if you only want to see an attractive and torn Sudeep on the big screen, Pailwaan might work for you.

It Chapter 2 Movie Review: You Can't Go Home Again

It Chapter 2 has officially arrived in theaters. It's the follow-up to 2017's wildly successful and acclaimed It adaptation, but does the sequel live up to those standards? Read on for our full review and then check out our look at the ending and spoiler review chat.

The decision paid off beautifully for Chapter 1, transforming the cerebral novel into a Goonies-flavored coming-of-age adventure with a cast of magnetic, scrappy, lovable kids who faced off against a monster and learned all sorts of lessons about life, love, and friendship along the way. In Chapter 2, however, the cracks in the concept begin to show, and ultimately, the final chapter fails to maintain the spark of the first, succumbing to a dangerous cocktail of muddled timelines, poorly placed novel call-backs, and scattered focus.

Chapter 2 is not a total loss. The adult cast, consisting of James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, Andy Bean and Jay Ryan, manage to embody credible versions of the children in Chapter 1. Their chemistry is electric, their mood is perfect, and His ensemble scenes are by far the strongest part of the movie. It's hard not to love the Losers Club, even all these years later.

Unfortunately, their ensemble scenes are sparked relatively sparingly in long and long stretches of artificial side missions that force each Loser to separate to relive some of their repressed childhood memories. Such repressed memories usually come as a package with flashbacks, and although it was not a bad idea to pass chunks of this movie with the children of Chapter 1 again, these scenes begin to feel redundant almost immediately. Each loser seems trapped in a feedback loop, forced to repeat the same rhythms and learn the same lessons we saw the first time.

Bill is still sad to lose his brother, Eddie is still afraid of infections and germs, Bev is still dealing with the memory of his monstrous father. The exception to this rule is Richie Tozier (Bill Hader), who is the only one of the Losers to get a completely new bow. It could be said that his new story is the most personal and interesting option that Chapter 2 has chosen, astronomically reinforced by Hader giving one of the best, if not the best, performances of the set, but the film never promises to be the center of Attention. Instead, Richie is still frustratingly a secondary character, playing the second stringer of the comforting food of Chapter 1 that is repeated endlessly as Bev's perpetual and one-sided crush.

That strange tug of war between new and old ideas does not begin or end there. Complete scenes from Chapter 2 are extracted directly from the source material with little or no reflection on how or where they fit into the new dynamic of the dual film. Entire subplots, such as the story of Henry Bowers, resume and wander aimlessly, occasionally stop to wink at the camera and say "hey, do you remember this from the book?" before they run out without reward. Meanwhile, some of the plot's newest points, such as a totally reinvented "Ritual Of Chüd," a magical ceremony used in the novel but kept out of Chapter 1, completely divorce the original material and become so Unrecognizable that honestly disconcerting that they managed to reach the final cut.

In terms of scares, Chapter 2 offers approximately 60% of the time. Bill Skarsgard has returned to repeat the role of Pennywise, the clown, and is as disturbing and disturbing as the first time. He even manages to remain as threatening and threatening, scaring a group of 40-year-olds as terrorizing a group of preteens, so it is certainly an achievement. However, for every really amazing scare that Chapter 2 has to offer, there are two more spoiled by an awkward CGI or predictable jumps.

Tonally, Chapter 2 is similar throughout the place. There are almost too many laughter splashed to reduce tension: they begin to feel forced and artificial. Where children were able to escape with jokes of miles per minute by virtue of being, well, children, adults have more difficulty in achieving it. It's not that the jokes themselves aren't fun, they absolutely are, but there really should have been fewer of them, just to make the terror more effective.

It all culminates in a series of final scenes that embody the best and worst of the film: nothing matches or makes sense, but it's still fun to see these characters come together to face a scary clown monster. Even if the logic does not work, you will desperately want the losers to come to mind.

Saaho movie review: Big, bulky and rather banal

Saaho is a big film. But its bigness is all bulk, not heft. Writer-director Sujeeth’s film is peripatetic, lurching from one geographic location and terrain to another. And though it’s ambitious in wanting to sound, seem and pose like it’s a significant something, it is slow and heavy-footed in demeanor and puerile of mind. Worse, it has no soul.

Saaho, which cost around Rs 350 crore, is long — six minutes short of three hours. And yet the film’s plot (its story and screenplay have been written by Sujeeth) is a needlessly convoluted labyrinth in which too many people of no consequence waffle around, and the few people of some consequence amount to nothing.

Saaho has too many gratuitous characters who weigh down the film. The film devotes some time to each one in meaningless, inane tangents, short-changing better characters, and actors who may have brought some sparkle to the film. There is little energy or speed to the plot, especially because lots of money has been thrown at long song sequences and longer chases in which trucks and cars crash, buildings get smashed. Together they slow down the film, instead of adding a bounce to its step.

The film, in the beginning, insinuates energy and high-jinks not through its writing, acting or plot play, but through quick editing and a very loud background score.

Saaho’s hankering for fame and fortune rests almost entirely on the fact that it stars Prabhas, the first South Indian actor whose wax statue lurks at Madame Tussauds (because I imagine, he is the hero of the only Indian movie to ever gross over Rs 1,000 crore — Baahubali 2).

And the film gives its all to Prabhas. It surrounds him with several popular actors and all manners of mean villains from South India and Mumbai, apart from legions of extras who seem to have drifted to the sets of Saaho after picking up their last paychecks from the sets of Game of Thrones, Lord of The Rings and Mad Max Fury Road.

He gets to romance one Bollywood beauty, and shake his bootie with another. Jacquelin Fernandes makes a sudden appearance to gyrate around his torso while mouthing lines of such elegance:Tu hai fire, main hoon gasoline boy Take me higher, you know what I mean boyMain Bhi bilkul tere jaisi mad girl I know you’re the bad boy I can be your bad girl… And yet, sparks don’t fly.

Prabhas is a big star, and he is, at times, charming. But a good actor he is not. Not in Saaho, at least. He can barely hold a scene, and he can’t, like, say Salman, Ajay Devgan or Rajini Sir, project anger, threat. All the departments of the film must come together to conjure a simple emotion for him. This happens not just because Saaho is badly written, but also because the star it loves so much doesn’t seem to be into it much.

Saaho opens to what can only be described as the general body meeting of the shareholders of the Roy Evil Enterprise in some foreign land. What they do is not clear. But seated around a very long table are men and women who could pose for a group photo and title it, “UN General Assembly meet on Universal Health Coverage”. Only the man at the head of the table, Roy (Jackie Shroff), strikes a discordant, criminal-chic note. So he is bumped off, in Mumbai, where, incidentally, the top cop (Prakash Belawadi) is fuming because a chor has been outsmarting the police. So a new officer is appointed to catch the chor — Ashok Chakravorty (Prabhas).

But Ashok doesn’t just appear. The film organizes a welcome party of sorts for him. First, it rains, and then there is a peculiar set-up for him to waltz into: In what looks like a very tall chawl, a rather bulky man, Alex, has a noose around his neck and is precariously balanced on a plank jutting out from the top floor.

Many men wearing many gold chains want him to hang. Who these men are and why they don’t like Alex, or for that matter who is Alex, isn’t something the film is interested in telling us. All it is interested in is this set-up for Ashok to burst into, so that he can show off his chops, climb this, scale that, encounter a python, a panther and a lady he can flirt with.

Finally, when Ashok has Alex in his custody and car, brace yourself for the scintillating dialogue:“Maut ke moonh se mujh ko bachcha ke laye ho. Mujhse kya chahiye, bhai?”

“Information.”

The entirety of Saaho is made up of either such stupefying banality or dialogue that are expository, painfully articulating what we have just watched on the screen.

As Ashok takes charge to find the smart chor, he recruits a lady cop, Amritha (Shraddha Kapoor), because he, well, fancies her. Meanwhile, in the Roy Evil Empire, one Oxford-Harvard educated, cotton-saree clad Kalki (Mandira Bedi) is taking long drags of her asthma puff because, it seems, Roy had kept some crucial thing about his life hidden from her, despite the fact that she seems critical to the running of the evil enterprise.

The film takes its own sweet time to tell us that Ms Amritha is not a prop but a substantial female character. Thus, she is a good cop who often faces sexism at work. She’s smart, but Ashok is smarter, of course. And since he is also soft on her, he kinda helps her deal with sexist seniors. Awwww.

Ashok has unconventional ways. He likes to have beer in office, and when asked a question by a colleague, he smashes a bottle. The bright sparks that they are, his juniors immediately get what he is trying to say. Ashok flirts, but Amritha remains focused on work and soon the smart chor is identified.

Meanwhile, Roy's secret son arrives to head the evil enterprise. But one Devraj (Chunky Pandey) gets his knickers in a twist over this and suddenly everyone and their uncle is after the Black Box which holds the key to Roy’s big vault, despite being totally clueless about what they will find inside — A boiled egg, a three-headed dragon, or clues to who Siddhanta Nanda Saaho is?

Saaho tries to be glib. In most of its office spaces there are glass screens and tables from which buildings and texts in hologram rise and get moved around with the flick of a finger.

But given the film’s tortuous, tangled plot involving compromised cops, many fake identities, umpteen car chases and dreary duels involving burly goondas of various ethnicities from East Europe and Africa, what stays with you is a sense of exhaustion, like after a long, wasted day.

Saaho has many fight scenes set in various parts of the world — the film was shot in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Romania, Austria. And often, hulks in leather and chains arrive carrying rather primitive weapons. At one point someone even wields Thor’s hammer at Ashok, and the film tries to stake its claim to having a bigger opening than Avengers: Endgame.

In another fight scene a large number of cushions and sofas get shot, making the stuffing fly about to create a guns ’n roses affect for our hero and heroine to do a deathly tango.

Saaho has any number of worthy baddies, from Mahesh Manjrekar to Neil Nitin Mukesh, Jackie Shroff to Tinnu Anand, Murali Sharma to Prakash Belawadi, and yet it entrusts the main baddie’s role to Chunky Pandey. He tries to be menacing by wringing an old man’s neck and muttering some half-baked story about a village he set fire to. I was more bored and confused than stirred.

Shraddha Kapoor is cute, but she is a non-actor. She can’t act, at all. She also can’t walk. Ms Kapoor only prances about, making her hair bounce and do more emoting than she can ever manage. And when she speaks, she does so with sudden jerks and petulance.

She reminded me of those annoying goody-two-shoes toppers in school and the way they would behave every time a teacher told them to hold the class for five minutes while they went to pee. Shraddha Kapoor has the spirit and demeanour of the teacher’s precocious pet. Annoying.

Saaho gives Prabhas everything that a superstar may want in a film. He gets to browbeat actors better than him. He gets to fight not just local, but imported extras. And in a scene where his fancy big wings malfunction, he takes one look at it and decides, to hell with it, and just wills himself to fly.

He even gets a climatic fight scene in a dystopian, sepia landscape with flying dust and ruins, as if the setting for Hugh Jackman’s ageing Logan had been cleared for him. So sad then that the superstar didn’t seem much into it. And worse, he is so out of shape.

Given the amount of time devoted to action sequences in Saaho, Prabhas’ moves have no smoothness or finesse. As he lumbers, his thighs thunder. And when he’s not fighting, he looks pasty, his body is droopy and language languid. Much like I was at the end of Saaho.

No seriously, is this part of an ongoing Bollywood season for issuing 'clean chit' at the movies, for famous figures? Whose own versions of the truth on screen, over a contentious real-life incident or event — despite previously held assertions/evidence to the contrary — exonerate them from a misdemeanor or crime they're alleged to have committed? That hero could be a cinema superstar, or indeed India's top politician. And that in this case, it's the Delhi Police? Well.

To be fair, while news-media is fairly central to this film's plot, and there's the usual tapli or two, the press is hardly portrayed as singularly responsible for spinning a completely false narrative. One has come to expect it from a movie such as this. Politicians seem more like the villain here. Rings true.

To be fairer still, while we aren't quite looking at the same incident through multiple lenses, like the proverbial Rashomon (1950), if you may, there is at least an attempt to show the other side of the story. Even though the film takes an altogether opposite line of thought to prove otherwise.

What's the event/incident we're looking at here? Batla House, obviously. Rather the police encounter set in a ramshackle building in the Batla House area of the congested Jamia Nagar in New Delhi, on September 2008. A couple of alleged terrorists of the local outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM) were gunned down in this morning-fire, and a couple of others injured.

The charge was that this was a 'fake encounter', with innocents brought indoors, just so Delhi Police could save face, given a bomb attack by the IM just a week before in the Capital, and a series of them across India, over the past couple of years. Were there really harmless college-kids in that kholi that day?

Don't know enough to take a stand. But here's what makes that case rather weak too: The fact that a much-decorated police inspector leading the special cell team into Batla House lost his own life in the encounter as well. Certainly doesn't sound like the handiwork of a bunch of ludo players.

Actor Ravi Kishan, with his inimitable swag, plays that slain cop, named KK Verma in the film. Actual reports mention him as Mohan Chand Sharma. John Abraham is shown to be his boss, the DCP behind the encounter — Sanjay Kumar, based on the actual Sanjeev Kumar Yadav. The film picks the incident to crack open a thoroughly dramatised thriller, that is a frantic police-procedural (to nab a terror mastermind), a departmental investigation and a court-room drama, all at once.

Which explains a running-time dangerously close to three hours. Sure, the flow isn't as seamlessly as you may like it to be — the confident leading man transitioning into a broken-down cop, with suicidal thoughts (just for a minor instance). And the film, lacking in high points, may feel tonally flat to some.

But no doubt, it keeps you stuck to the seat nonetheless, largely for the rich visual detailing, meaty research — basically fine writing/dialogue (Ritesh Shah) — gluing it all together. Sometimes it's not what you thought while you were exiting the theatre as what you expected while entering it, which makes all the difference, over how you felt about a film.

Frankly, I went in expecting little. For one, didn't think much of the only thriller director Nikkhil Advani has helmed in the past — D-Day (2013), based on a fictitious mission to capture Dawood Ibrahim, which was all very good, until Dawood started getting dragged on his knees in the Thar desert! There's no escaping basic Bollywood tropes here either. But it's done all so smartly to never take attention away from a deeply realistic crime-drama. This is clearly Advani's best work in a long while; suspect since the animation film Delhi Safari (2012), if not his rom-com debut, Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)!

At the centre of it all is of course Abraham, who doesn't always inspire much confidence for a film of this sort. Calm, restrained, completely undemonstrative, action super-star Abraham appears to be even channelling his inner 'Aamir Khan', if you observe him closely on occasion! Yup, quite a revelation.

That said, don't know whether DCP Yadav, on whom the protagonist is based, really entered Batla House that morning. Probably did. Here's what the film compels you to do though. Read up more and more about the case. This is already saying a lot. Last time that happened? Maybe Anurag Kashyap's Black Friday? Woah, now that's a seriously tall compliment.

'Mission Mangal' review: Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan's film makes science easy and entertaining:

There is a lot to celebrate in director Jagan Shakti’s film 'Mission Mangal'. Based on ISRO’s successful Mars Mission in 2014 which catapulted India among the big league in the space program, the film celebrates the unrelenting hard work and dedication of 17000 engineers and scientists who made the mission possible. Written by Shakti and R Balki, who also serves as the creative director, ‘Mission Mangal’ may have taken copious liberty in terms of characterizations and oversimplifies science but ultimately delivers a film that makes you proud of India and its unknown heroes. Akshay Kumar plays Raghav Dhawan, a senior scientist who is made the director of Mission Mars after one of his earlier missions fail. It’s sort of a punishment posting to a department which most ISRO scientists feel will never take flight. Tara Shinde (Vidya Balan), Raghav’s project manager in previous missions though thinks otherwise. As Raghav and Tara go on convincing the higher authorities of the organization about their mission, they face multiple obstacles from the word go. From setting up a team of experienced people to getting an approval of the desired budget, to getting the desired satellite in the orbit of Mars in a limited time- nothing seemed to go in their favor initially.

Eventually, they put together a motley group of junior scientists consisting of Eka (Sonakshi Sinha), Kritika (Taapsee Pannu), Neha (Kirti Kulhari), Varsha (Nithya Menen), Parmeshwar(Sharman Joshi) and Ananth (HG Dattatreya)- who initially are not willing to put extra hours at work but later come on board to achieve the impossible.

While the story is an inspiring one, it is the oversimplification that spoils the narrative. Science is dumbed down to make it more relatable for the audience at large. Then there are several scenes which seem so unnecessary to the main plot and one can feel that it has put there merely to make a science-heavy film more commercially viable.

Since its an Akshay Kumar film, there are surely some lines that seem straight out of books of nationalism. An ailing Army officer eggs his scientist wife to go back to work and not turn into a nurse because she too is on duty for the country. The story- through its subplots- also pay token mention to certain pertinent issues at hand including Islamophobia, and women’s right to choose career over motherhood. And while the intent is good, one can’t help but wonder if it has all been included to appease one and all.

All the actors deliver commendable performances but it's Vidya Balan who shines the most. Even though her character seems an extension of what she played in ‘Tumhari Sulu’- as the multi-tasker cool mom, Balan still manages to shine the most in ‘Mission Mangal’. Her eyes light up every time the mission leaps ahead, her eyes look tired and worn out when her ever complaining husband (Sanjay Kapoor) nags about some household chores that haven’t been done. Balan is such a natural and manages to fit into every character she plays really well making it her own. The other lead Akshay Kumar, who also serves as the producer of the film, lets Balan take the center stage, while Kumar is himself pretty comfortable playing a maverick scientist. Of course, he gets to say the dramatic patriotic lines on more occasions than one but the actor makes his character quite believable. Much like their characters, Kumar and Balan ably support each other- their camaraderie spills out the screen and they make for an interesting pair. Bollywood films usually romantically pair up two lead actors in a film, so it is interesting to watch the actors play a boss and a subordinate in this film instead.

Pannu, Sinha, Menen, and Kulhari also look refreshingly relatable in each of their parts. Each of their characters is quite distinct from each other and they suit their parts well.

Unlike ‘Hidden Figures’, where the three women faced strict opposition based on the color of their skins, the problems in ‘Mission Mangal’ are more logistical than emotional. The women have to manage home and work and only listen to taunts of a senior scientist, a NASA returned, Indian American played by Dalip tahil, who makes his character more comical than evil. I also wish they had shown more of ISRO and the work they did to achieve such a feat instead of dramatizing the personal stories of each of the women.

The film gives a hat –tip to scores of women in India who juggle work and home with complete ease. Termed as ‘MOM’ (Mars Orbit Mission) it truly celebrates its women and lets the male superstar underplay his role. In fact, in one scene one of the men wonders out loud whether the mission would have been as successful if it was termed ‘DAD’ instead of ‘ MOM’.

Despite the lines that play to the gallery, despite its oversimplification of science, and its unnecessary need to put in scenes just for entertainment purpose- ‘Mission Mangal’ works. It tells a story that is worth telling; it celebrates women and their inherent ability to juggle multiple roles and also puts the spotlight on some unsung heroes of our time. Ultimately, it’s a wholesome family entertainer that makes for a perfect watch this Independence day.

It’s not fair to say that 'Mission Mangal' needs an Akshay Kumar, says Vidya Balan

The Mangalyaan space probe entered the Martian orbit on September 24, 2014. Conducted by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the project’s fruition made history for India. We became the first Asian country to achieve the feat and the first in the world to do so in one attempt.

Even more significant was the mission’s staggeringly low budget (around Rs 450 crore), the lowest ever for a Mars mission, and far below the Hollywood blockbuster Gravity, as was pointed out at the time. But for director Jagan Shakti, whose sister works at ISRO, the achievement went beyond numerics. “It’s a story of how ordinary men and women, who take the same bus as we do and buy vegetables with us, are capable of being extraordinary,” he says.

Jagan salutes the human victory of the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) in his debut film, Mission Mangal. Ambitiously cast and produced, the project looks too risky to be handed over to a first-timer (one recent exception was Uri: The Surgical Strike, a muscular production helmed by newcomer Aditya Dhar).

Jagan sounds confident about his grip on the subject, as well as the technical know-how of making a space movie. “ISRO was helpful in terms of giving us access to the material and scientists,” he says, “The right balance between art director and VFX helped us design the rocket, which was the most important component of the film. While we had the exact diagrams in possession, we couldn’t have designed a similar-looking device.”

Though certain arcs have been fictionalized, lead actor Akshay Kumar assures 80-90 percent of the film is based on facts. He hopes after watching the film, Indian scientists would be inspired to work for their country, instead of migrating to NASA. The actor feels the Indian government is directing renewed attention to space exploration.

“Becoming a vaigyanik (scientist) was once considered a male pursuit. Girls were discouraged from joining the profession. The same applied to engineering and police services. Today, those things have changed. That’s why we show in the film that it doesn’t matter what your gender is. A girl, too, can become a great scientist.”

Posters of Mission Mangal were criticized for allotting more space to Akshay, a popular male actor, instead of his female co-stars. Vidya Balan, who plays Project Director Tara Shinde in the film, argues that the story isn’t only about women scientists.

“This mission had equal contribution from men and women. It’s great that a woman’s contribution is at least being acknowledged. It’s not fair to say that this film ‘needs’ an Akshay Kumar. It’s great that an Akshay Kumar has done this film, despite knowing that women have equal space in it. Because normally, (male superstars) are not even willing to share equal space. But Akshay has not only acted in the film but produced it too.”

Mission Mangal marks the Bollywood debut of Nithya Menen. The Southern star plays Varsha Pillai, a satellite designer tasked with making a budget-efficient payload. Nithya says she didn’t have apprehensions about working in an ensemble cast for her first Hindi film.

“An actor should be smaller than the film. On every project, I think of my character not in terms of screen space but what is her significance in the story.” Besides Mission Mangal, Nithya will also be seen in the upcoming Hindi web-show Breath 2. “I recognize that it is a good time for me to be here (in Bollywood). More than films, I feel OTT is my space because it is completely content-driven. You can be as subtle as you want. There’s no need to compromise or dumb things down.”

Taapsee Pannu portrays a navigation scientist in Mission Mangal. She is paired opposite Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, who plays an army officer. “A husband and a wife are both working for the nation. But because my character is a woman, her relationship with her work is different. That’s the dynamic that will be explored in the film.”

On female actors reclaiming strong roles in Bollywood, Taapsee says, “Let’s just say I have been a small part of this big change. There was a time when I had thoughts of quitting after working for 5-7 years because that was the shelf-life of a female actor. Today, I am certain I’ll keep working as long as good work keeps coming. So that’s a change I’ve witnessed in front of me.”

Mission Mangal is scheduled to release on August 15. The film also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi and HG Dattatreya.

Sacred Games 2 Review: India’s First Netflix Series Is More Reflective and Urgent on Return

After their debut last year, Sacred Games received approval from most Indian viewers who believed they finally got the local original series, which tried to follow in the footsteps of the prestigious television era that sparked a new era of gold television in the United States. (He probably had his flaws that we previously documented.) Although his global success remains controversial, as there is no open door policy in the Netflix rating department, Sacred Games is clearly a phenomenon in India. In turn, this means that there will be more pressure on the cast and crew when Thursday, season 2 of the Holy Games comes out.

In the first three episodes - this is what Netflix has given critics access to - Sacred Games 2, it is clear that at least stimulation is not a problem. This is partly due to the fact that Inspector Sartage Singh (Saif Ali Khan) has even fewer days to prevent a nuclear attack on the horizon. (The first three episodes take four days.) The Netflix series moves quickly from one scene to another, but she also knows when to take a break and linger a bit. It was then that the interactions between the characters came into play, and in the second season, there are several delightful ones, thanks to new and returning characters. And it also greatly facilitates the shift between memories and modernity, intertwining into a common thread.

In fact, the show is split. On the one hand, he is ready to make way to investigate Sartage’s guilt for the death of his friend and colleague Kontabal Katekar (Jitendra Joshi) in the first season, and the influence he had on the rest of the Katekar family. Some of this briefly refers to cow vigilance and Hindu nationalism, updating the book of Vikram Chandra and making the Holy Games more relevant for today. At the same time, the Ganesh Gaitonde storyline (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) spins its wheels in the first episodes. Of course, it is still watchable from moment to moment, but it looks like a binding of its early arch from the first season. Gaithonde’s track seemed to be stalled, so Sartaj’s path could catch up.

Whatever the cost, you can find some joys along the route - in addition to the above-mentioned conversations - with Sacred Games, who started the meta at the beginning of season 2. There is a carefully thought-out rest of some memorable moments of season 1, which works at two different levels. This is an obvious mocking trick, and it also takes on Bollywood's connection with the underworld of Mumbai. Interestingly, this self-referential approach sounds differently in the context of the second season, completing the storyline of Gaitond in the process of completing the book, as the creators of the Holy Games have shown. It looks like a way to bring him in a full circle, hinting that Siddiqui might not play a role if there is a third season that Netflix will undoubtedly want, given the popularity of the show.

Sacred Games 2 starts mostly from where we left off, and Sartaj & Co. begins to explore the fallout shelter and its contents: the dead Trivedi ( Pankaj Tripathi). The nuclear conspiracy is connected with Hizbuddin, a fictional terrorist detachment that is associated with one Shahid Khan (Ranvir Shorey) - repeatedly mentioned but not seen anywhere at the beginning of the second season - which supposedly stands behind everything: from the 1993 bombings to 1999 Kandahar's abduction, for Inspector Majid Ali Khan (Aamir Bashir). As part of a new investigation team, Sartaj and Majid set off in search of Shahid Khan, while the first digs into Guruji (Pankaj Tripathi), a spiritual guru whom Gaitonde calls his “third father”.

This brings into the game longtime follower Guruji Batu Abelman (Kalki Koechlin), who oversees the Mumbai ashram and is one of several new female characters in Season 2 of the Holy Games. In much more important roles - at least in the first few episodes - for RAW agent Kusum Devi Yadava (Amruta Subhash), a character who was deleted from the book. At the beginning of the second season, Trivedi and Yadav come to Gaitonde to work in Mombasa, Kenya. Naturally, he rejects the offer, since he has only one thing in mind: to return home and take revenge on Suleiman Isa (Saurabhu Sachdev), who almost killed him in prison, and Gaitond almost escaped his life.

But everything has changed dramatically. In Bombay, police cracked down on gangs after the riots of 1992-93, while Isa climbed the stairs after moving the base to Dubai. (The parallels with Daoud Ibrahim, on which this character is based, naturally continue.) Gaitond - both drifting and powerless, and without any remaining cards, he accepts Yadav’s offer to essentially become a government pawn. Working for her means listening and making compromises, which ultimately violates the spirit of Gaitonde. It is not surprising that a guy who does not believe in God turns to the guru - with the push of the Trivedi - he lacks the answers and control that he desperately seeks.

By creating Guruji's view from all sides, Sacred Games 2 also boldly portends a potentially literal - but so far metaphorical - nuclear cloud that has hit everyone, giving Tripati lines such as "Time is Radioactive." Tripathi has a greater presence in Season Two scriptwriters - the main writer Varun Grover and his new team of writers Dhruv Narang (Gormint), Nihit Bhave (Hey Prabhu!) And Puja Tolani - can uncover the Hindu mythological aspects of this story. Sacred Games 2 also pushes to the other world, including several sequences of dreams in the first three episodes, which allows the deepest fears and fears of the characters to rise to the surface.

This helps to avoid exposure, although it is not always as effective in other places. Fortunately, the dynamics between the actors - and profanity between the characters - make viewing easier. This is especially true for conversations between Gaitond and Yadav, and Gaitond and Jojo Mascarenas (Surveen Chawla), Madame "talent manager," who was killed in the first moments of season 1 but has a much larger presence in season 2. Both women are not afraid of Gaitonde which contributes a lot to the dynamics And it becomes even more intriguing due to hints of darkness in their respective worlds, be it demons in the past or a terrible fate around the corner.

In addition, most of the humor in the second season of the Sacred Games relies on the (all-knowing) narration of the Gaitond, as was the case in the first season. In the second season, a rare look at the other side of the screen, which gives us an idea of how the people of Gaitond behave and react to the boss's fraud when he is not around. And there is another comedy that arises from the naivety of a drug dealer with a childish face that Gaitonde turns into his puppet.

As for filmmaking, the most attractive thing at the beginning of the film is a spectacular one-minute take, which is part of the chase sequence and includes a climb to a four-story building. But at the same time, Sacred Games 2 also makes some factual, logical, and continuity errors. Although most of them are small and excusable - they jump incorrectly through the years, senselessly kill secondary characters and the movement of furniture - the largest and most stupid of them is Sartaj himself. In an interview, Khan showed that he lost weight in order to repeat his role in the second season, which is absolutely pointless from the point of view of the story. The show begins where we left off, so when did Sartaj lose all this weight?

It will not be a big problem if the season as a whole is interesting and useful, but we cannot say for sure, given that Netflix provided us with access to only less than half. (A total of eight episodes.) This is the same as judging a film lasting two and a half hours in the first hour. Netflix, not wanting to let critics watch the entire season, is curious and reminds Leila, whose first and second half of the season were polar opposites. It is unlikely that Sacred Games 2 will share this fate, but it is impossible to say how well it will pay for storylines, including sharp ones, such as those in which the Katekar family participates. Left with these “ifs” and “buts,” we will get to know each other better when all episodes are available.Sacred Games 2 is out August 15 at 12am IST on Netflix in India.

WWE SummerSlam 2019 results: Seth Rollins slays Brock Lesnar while The Fiend stuns with in-ring debut

Seth Rollins has defeated "The Beast" -- again.

Rollins defeated Brock Lesnar to close out WWE SummerSlam, following his win over Lesnar earlier this year at WrestleMania 35, to become a two-time WWE Universal champion.

The Scotiabank Arena audience in Toronto, Canada, was buzzing during the wild and physical main event. Several times it seemed that Rollins would win just to be dominated by Lesnar. Just when it looked like Rollins was out of it, he kept fighting and finally submitted Lesnar with his trademark Stomp to get the win.

It was the only championship that changed hands on the night in what turned out to be a shorter event than usual. Becky Lynch retained the "RAW" women's championship after making Natalya tap out to her Disarm-Her submission move. Elsewhere, Bayley successfully defending the "SmackDown" women's title against Ember Moon while AJ Styles retained the United States Championship against Ricochet.
In maybe the most unsatisfying moment of the night, Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton went to a count-out draw for the WWE championship. That was followed by one of the most anticipated moments of the show with "The Fiend" -- the alter ego of Bray Wyattt -- finally made his in-ring debut.

Plus, a pair of legends returned to action and had a very good showing for themselves in what turned out to be an above-average and fun show.

WWE SummerSlam 2019 results: Live updates, highlights from every match Seth Rollins defeats Brock Lesnar to win the Universal championship10:30 p.m. FINISH: Back in the ring where Rollins hits another frog splash. He hits the Stomp but Lesnar kicks out at the last second and the crowd is buzzing while Heyman is in full panic mode. Rollins is calling for the Stomp again and goes for it but Lesnar catches him. Rollins gets out, superkick and then hits the Stomp. 1-2-3 and Seth Rollins has done it! He has won the Universal championship! That was really fun. Great chemistry and great action as they had the crowd on the edge of their seats.

10:26 p.m.: Lesnar clears an announcer's table but Rollins kicks him and "The Beast" is on the table. Rollins goes to the top rope, then the top of the post and take to the air. Holy Moley.

10:24 p.m.: Lesnar is really targeting the ribs and drives Rollins hard into the corner. He tries again but Rollins moves out of the way and Lesnar flies into the corner post. He then gets kicked off the apron and into an announcer's table. Rollins then connects with a dive and a second one. He goes for a third but Lesnar catches him and drives him into the post.

10:21 p.m.: Lesnar is picking Rollins apart including a suplex on the floor. He goes for an F5 outside the ring but Rollins escapes and throws Lesnar face-first into the ring post. Back in the ring and Rollins hits a high knee. He goes for another off the top rope but Lesnar avoids it and then delivers a German suplex. The crowd is getting hyped up.

10:18 p.m.: Lesnar goes for the suplex, again and again, Rollins lands on his feet. He hits a pair of superkicks and goes for another Stomp but Lesnar catches him and connects with an F5. He then picks up Rollins and swings him in circles using the tape on his midsection. Now it's time to go to Suplex City with three suplexes in a row.

10:15 p.m.: Heyman does the introduction for his client and here we go. As expected, Lesnar goes right after Rollins' injured ribs and is pounding on him in the corner. Lesnar goes for a German suplex but Rollins lands on his feet and hits the Stomp. He makes the cover but Lesnar kicks out.

10:10 p.m.: This show is expected to go to 11:00 p.m. ET and this is the final match. We'll see. I smell an angle. Rollins is out first and has his ribs taped up after the beating he took the past two weeks on "RAW".

"The Fiend" Bray Wyatt defeats Finn Balor

10:03 p.m. FINISH: Balor goes for the Coup de Grace but "The Fiend" avoids it and applies the Mandible Claw. Balor is out and "The Fiend" scores the pin and poses over Balor. The lights go out and you hear Wyatt's laugh and him standing in the ring before he disappears. Creepy. Strange. Everything that he needed for his debut.

10:00 p.m.: The bell rings and "The Fiend" immediately grabs Balor and floors him with a head butt. Balor is trying to fight back but gets drilled with a clothesline to the back. He plants Balor with a urinagi and is taunting him. He looks at his hands and seems to be struggling with his emotions. He fights through that and goes for Sister Abagail but Balor fights back with a Sling Blade and a stomp.

9:57 p.m.: The "Firefly Funhouse" open airs and then the screen says "Let Him In". Here comes "The Fiend" to a new metal version of his previous theme while holding a lantern made of Bray Wyatt's head. He's wearing his mask along with red and black striped long trunks. The crowd is totally into this and holding up their cell phones as lights.

9:53 p.m.: After all this time, we finally get to see "The Fiend" in action. I think people are just as interested in his presentation and ring entrance.

Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton go to a draw, Kingston retains the WWE championship

9:47 p.m. FINISH: Kingston is out of the ring in front of his family and Orton comes out there. He's stalking Kofi with his kids looking on and the referee is counting. Orton takes too long and Kingston gets ticked off and goes wild on Orton as they're both counted out. Um, sure?! Not the finish anyone expected and the crowd fires off BS chants.

Kingston grabs a Kendo stick and works over Orton with it before laying him out with a Trouble in Paradise. The crowd is not happy and quiet as Kingston poses with the title. Not a bad match but not a good ending either.

9:43 p.m.: Orton catches Kingston in the ropes and plants him with a DDT. He's ready to deliver an RKO and goes for it, but Kingston reverses into a backslide. Orton escapes but Kingston kicks him in the head in the corner. He climbs to the top and dives off but right into an RKO! Both men are down.

9:40 p.m.: Kingston connects with a DDT and then levels Orton with a thunderous two-handed chop and then another followed by a dropkick and a clothesline. Kingston with a Boom drop and he's fired up but Orton grabs Kingston and drops him back-first across his knee. 9:15 p.m. FINISH: It's a chopfest as they go back and forth. Stratus with a Chick kick but can't score the pin. Flair slowly gets up and she drills Stratus with a big kick and slaps on the Figure Four. She turns it into Figure Eight and Stratus has nowhere to go and taps out. A really good match and Stratus proved that she can go toe-to-toe with the best in WWE. A bit surprising that both Canadian women in Stratus and Natalya lost via tapout on the show. This one felt more like a passing of the baton.

Elias throws a chair in the ring and Owens wants to use it but can't or else he'd be disqualified. Shane wants him to use it and slaps him but Owens throws the chair outside the ring. McMahon misses Owens and his Elias off the apron. KO with a superkick and then a frog splash. Then another and he makes the cover but Elias pulls the ref out of the ring. Damn.

8:39 p.m.: McMahon announces that to make sure this is a fair fight, Elias has been named the special ringside enforcer. Owens does not approve but he's not backing down from the fight. Elias and Owens jaw at one another outside the ring and Owens gets back in and ends up drilling McMahon with a cannonball. It doesn't take long before McMahon comes back.

Fast And Furious: Hobbs And Shaw Review: An Over-the-Top Action Showcase, Minus The Emotional Depth Of The Series’ Zenith

A decade and four months ago, the Fast and Furious franchise was all but dead. The fourth eponymous entry — the second from director Justin Lin — had scored the worst reviews of the series yet, with criticism aimed towards the sheer CGI-ness of the action sequences amongst several other issues. But then surprisingly, Lin put Fast and Furious back on track with Fast Five, which became the franchise's first genuine hit and paved the way for future entries that rolled out as instant blockbusters. (The three films since have made more than two-thirds of the total earnings.) Fast and Furious is now big enough to warrant its own spin-off, and that's exactly what it's getting with Hobbs and Shaw, featuring the title characters played by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

Fast Five didn't just hotwire Fast and Furious back to life, but it also began the franchise's slide into fantasy and sci-fi territory. Remember that endless runway in Fast & Furious 6? Or that jump between three buildings in Furious 7? Hobbs and Shaw director David Leitch — best known for Deadpool 2, Charlize Theron-starrer Atomic Blonde, and John Wick — knows that very well. And the writers — Fast and Furious veteran Chris Morgan, and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) — and he leans into that fully with the spin-off, which is not even coy about it anymore. Rather than a scene that was conceptualized, extensively storyboarded, and then shot and cut to perfection — which Leitch did well on John Wick and Atomic Blonde, but not with Deadpool 2 — those in Hobbs and Shaw suffer from a lack of fluidity. And when the action doesn't flow beat-to-beat, it takes you out of the moment. In other words, you stop caring.

Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw open in London, as it introduces MI6 agent Hattie Shaw (Vanessa Kirby, from The Crown) — the younger sister to Statham's Deckard Shaw — leading a team to secure a deadly virus. Things go sideways after Brixton shows up to take the virus for himself, prompting Hattie to inject herself with it and escape. It's a good enough set-up for the two new characters whom the audiences don't know, as it establishes their credentials neatly and succinctly. It then switches to the ones most in the audience already know, giving us a look at what they've been up to. Hobbs spends time with his nine-year-old daughter who has questions about their family, while Shaw goes to the prison to see his mum (Helen Mirren, returning from Fast & Furious 8), who's itching to get out.

Pretty soon, the two are pulled in by the CIA to find the absconding Hattie, who's been branded rogue by the MI6. Both declare that they work alone and reject the idea of a partner. You don't need to have seen the previous Fast and Furious films Johnson and Statham have appeared in to understand why Hobbs and Shaw don't get along with each other, but the film plays better if you have. Naturally, they are forced to work together — the film's called Hobbs and Shaw for a reason — and it's their comedic, one-upmanship banter that powers nearly all the film's humor. After all, it's why Universal Pictures granted them their own spin-off. But that humor, while it may have worked in spades in previous mainline entries, wears thin in Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw because it's the only thing on offer.

Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw — 3 Post-Credits Scenes, Explained

Morgan and Pearce clearly recognized that as well during the writing process, which explains the extended surprise cameos from actors Johnson and Leitch have worked with before — we won't say who they are — to provide additional humor support. But said cameos feel grafted onto the narrative as comic relief, and a recognition of facts that it's one-dimensional in itself and lacking the variety of the ensemble that usually powers Fast and Furious.

Meanwhile, Elba, with his fantastic sardonic delivery, only gets one opportunity to participate in the film's comedic elements. The rest of the time, he's forced to brood around like he does on Luther, working off very little story-wise except some beef with Shaw, and an evil mastermind's modulated voice that only shows up as the vertical bars of a music equalizer. Elba has such a captivating presence that you can't help but wonder what he would bring to a more laid-back Fast and Furious entry, and it's a shame that Hobbs and Shaw don't make room for him to transition into the bigger world.

An additional problem is that the film fails to expand on the bonds that have driven the franchise's emotional core: (found) family. For one, Hobbs' daughter and Shaw's mother are tangential to the film. Sure, Shaw's sister is central to the plot, but this is the first time we're seeing them together. We have no shared history of their relationship. To bridge that family gap, Hobbs and Shaw transport its characters in the final act to the former's home on the island of Samoa — shot in Hawaii in reality — where Hobbs attempts to reconcile with those he abandoned. But there's little meat to that storyline.

And it doesn't help that without the rest of the Fast and Furious family present, the message also rings a bit hollow. It's possible that the ongoing feud between Vin Diesel and Johnson was to blame for that, with the latter admitting they share “a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach movie-making and collaborating”. (It's likely why Johnson isn't a part of Fast & Furious 9.) If that's why Diesel & Co. don't appear in Hobbs and Shaw, it's ironic that a franchise about a bunch of stubborn petrolheads who reluctantly team up with their worst enemies — Statham's Deckard was the villain two films ago — now can't find a way to resolve their real-world differences.

From a narrative standpoint, the only good thing Hobbs and Shaw does is that it never turns Hattie into a damsel in distress, even as the plot could've easily steered in a direction like that. That's a good step for the Fast and Furious franchise that has a notorious, troubled history with its on-screen representation, portrayal, and treatment of women. In fact, both the male leads regularly turn to women to save them in the film. Sadly, Kirby is the only one with on-screen prominence, with the other female actors — including Eiza González, of Baby Driver fame — reduced to cameos.

Lastly, though it feels futile to complain about logic in a franchise that gave up on it a while ago, Hobbs and Shaw willingly write itself into a corner by putting a 72-hour timer on a catastrophic event. Most of that time is lost before the two leads even join up with Hattie, and then the film throws away more time by having its characters fly around the world, going from London to Russia to Ukraine, and then all the way to Samoa in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. By our calculations, that's easily more than a day and a half in the air. But this is Fast and Furious, so does it really matter?

The bigger problem ultimately is that there's no real emotional engagement with the characters on-screen, which is why you find yourself noting such plot holes. Towards the end of the film, Hobbs declares they're all about people and heart, while Brixton is all about technology. And that's why they'll always win. You half fall for it at the moment because Johnson is just so sincere in his delivery. But Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw have none of those people and heart, itself. It cannot espouse the philosophy it preaches because it's so interested and determined to be over-the-top that it essentially stands as a shiny spectacle crafted with the help of technology.

It's a far cry from the franchise's nadir, but it's also a far cry from its zenith. In the end, Hobbs and Shaw is a middling Fast and Furious entry — and that's not worth much at all.

Star power in modern Hollywood isn’t what it once was. It used to be that casting a beloved and/or trendy lead actor was the ultimate key to box office success, but – as has been noted in many think pieces written in the last few years – that’s not really the case anymore. Save a handful of exceptions, mass audiences today are far more interested in recognizable brands and familiar characters than any single performer, and it’s a shift that has completely redefined the market.

David Leitch’s Hobbs & Shaw, however, is a film that aims to have its cake and eat it too. This is a blockbuster tied to one of the biggest franchises in the world (the full title includes the prefix Fast & Furious Presents), but simultaneously it’s an independent spin-off essentially inspired by the powerful popularity of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. In the current cinematic climate, that’s the equivalent of a loaded deck, and in that vein, it delivers on its promise. It’s a showcase for bonkers action and charming charisma, and while the story occasionally veers a bit too far into the ridiculous and messy, it’s successful in the end just because of its excellent entertainment value.

Fans of the Fast & Furious franchise will recall from the two most recent chapters of the main series that Diplomatic Security Service Agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and MI6-trained rogue spy/assassin Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) aren’t exactly in each other’s fan clubs. Being natural adversaries as a cop and criminal, the bulk of their screen time together thus far has been spent either physically fighting, or trading insults. They can barely spend a second in a shared space together without throwing chairs or verbal barbs… which really makes them a perfect duo forced together for the adventure cooked up by screenwriters Drew Pearce and Chris Morgan.

Continuing the family theme that has become so huge in these movies, it turns out that Deckard’s sister, Hattie (Vanessa Kirby), is also an intelligence agent, and has unfortunately gotten herself in a serious bit of trouble involving a weaponized deadly virus. In an attempt to keep the disease out of the hands of Brixton Lore (Idris Elba) – a technologically-enhanced agent of a sinister shadow organization called Eton – Hattie injects herself with it, but she is then forced on the run when Eteon frames her as a traitor to MI6.

Given their individual skills and personal connections, both Hobbs and Shaw are called in to work the globe-spanning mission – neither informed about the other’s involvement, of course. The two men spar incessantly, both still emotional about their past encounters, but when fully confronted with the threat that Brixton represents, they try and work together just long enough to save the world.

To an unabashed degree, Hobbs & Shaw is a movie about wheelhouse capitalization – both in front of and behind the camera. Nobody here is exactly breaking new ground, but everyone is doing what they do best, and it’s really the film’s greatest strength. It’s always fun when you can feel palpable confidence from a blockbuster, and this one has it flowing. Not every stylistic choice fully works (especially those that get significant setups without big payoffs), and logic isn’t consistently the narrative’s greatest concern, but the majority of its big swings connect.

Previous movies have already shown us how naturally suited both Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are for their respective roles, and Hobbs & Shaw is essentially designed to give that act a more significant stage on which to perform – while at the same time capitalizing on the same kind of venomous chemistry that has fueled many of cinema’s great “buddy” team-ups. The two leads really are perfect opposites, and it naturally generates its own material, both in personality and physicality. Johnson is mountainous, impossibly strong, and effortlessly suave; while Statham excels in being stealthily quick, agile, and sharp. Their back-and-forth is great, as is how the action benefits from a creative standpoint.

This brings us to David Leitch, who is as expert as an expert gets in Hollywood when it comes to action. The filmmaker was clearly given a lot of resources here, and they're certain is a “go big or go home” attitude that emanates as massive set-piece follows a massive set-piece. There is definitely a loose relationship with real-world physics, but it never gets to such a crazy cartoony place that it kills the momentum. It lets you believe that a bulletproof Idris Elba can slide a motorcycle beneath two in-motion semis going opposite directions and that Dwayne Johnson can win a tug of war with a helicopter, and that’s an exciting world to live in for two hours and 15 minutes.

Nine movies and 18 years into this franchise, audiences are entirely aware of what’s being delivered with a new Fast & Furious chapter, and while Hobbs & Shaw is testing out some new waters by being the first spin-off, it should also meet your expectations. It’s not a movie totally without greater ambitions, as some significant steps are made to set up possible sequels that will take the story in some fresh directions, but what it delivers best is really what you’re there to see.

Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham aren’t here for the Oscar buzz. With a super-sized screen presence, these hulking, follicle-free actors just want to crack some bones and a few tongue-in-cheek jokes. And, hey, serving up one last treat during a brutal summer wouldn’t hurt them either. They go the extra mile joining forces in Fast and the Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw, a would-be superhero entry without the costumes. The movie is almost ridiculous enough to get the job done. Almost.

Sorry Sex and the City fans, this is not a spin-off featuring Miranda and Aiden. In case you’ve been ignoring the Fast and the Furious franchise for the past five years, this installment is based on the characters Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Statham). One is a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service; the other is a British outcast that plays by his own rules. They hate each other for reasons that don’t matter and aren’t shy about conveying their disdain.

They must put their differences aside because the fate of the world is at stake. Try to keep up: One of Shaw’s old foes has turned into an evil, genetically-enhanced cyborg. This anarchist baddie — played by Idris Elba, BTW — has gained control of an uber-virus that liquefies the human body within hours. Said virus has been implanted inside the hand of a rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby) that just happens to be Shaw’s baby sister. Now the enemies must team up to take down this self-proclaimed “black Superman.” To do that, they’ll have to journey from London to Ukraine to Samoa. If you tell me the screenwriters settled on this plot after playing a drunken game of Scattergories, I’d believe you.

But who needs story when an entire cast is a game in performing in over-the-top stunts that would make Tom Cruise jealous? The action is ramped up to the extreme, highlighted by Johnson free-falling down a skyscraper to catch Elba and Statham sliding his motorcycle underneath a semi-truck. Maybe that was Johnson too. After 145 minutes, all those scenes are melded into one CGI spectacle. And with that Fast and Furious brand name, you better believe you’re in store for car chases on steroids, as well.

Hobbs and Shaw work best when Johnson and Statham fight each other with cutting words. The punchlines are easy but hilariously effective. “I’ll have this job done while you’re still putting on your baby oil,” Shaw sneers to his rival early on. Hobbs snipes back that Shaw has short Hobbit legs with a nasal Harry Potter voice. Director David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde) corralled some friends to chime in on the barbs too. Though these stars made their names as action heroes, their quick-witted comic timing is vastly underrated.

Celebrities and Their Stunt Doubles

If Leitch had left Hobbs and Shaw as a slick 90-minute action-fest, he’d have a winner. But he makes the mistake of believing that audiences want a heavy-handed warm and fuzzy message in a bloated third act. (In lazy-writing racing terms, he takes the foot off the pedal.) Hobbs is already in a race against the clock to save his new crush, not to mention save humanity for the fourth time in four years. There’s no need for him to also make amends with his estranged family while getting in touch with his heritage in Samoa. “You believe in machines,” he implores to Elba, “But we believe in people.”

Sujoy Ghosh, director of hit thriller films like 'Kahaani' and 'Revenge' has created a horror web series for Netflix Originals, 'Typewriter'. In this series of 5 episodes, everything is present for the viewer, which he finds in a horror story. What should not have happened is that it's a bit longer.

If you like horror stories if you are a web series addict and want to see something new, then definitely see this, it will not disappoint you. So far in the horror films, we have seen, 'Typewriter' has been made one step ahead of it. Sujoy is known for his story thriller Elements and the series is full of it.

STORY:

Talk about the story. There are 3 children who are quite obsessed with ghosts. They want to see the ghosts. So they all make up a club Sameera, the leader of 'The Ghost Club'. The things are written in that book accordingly and then starts the mission of watching the ghosts of this club.

Bardez Villa 'is a Haunted House, where a family comes to live in. The villas and ghosts of this show remind me of Amitabh Bachchan's film 'Bhootnath', there is also a 'Nath Villa' in which 'Bhootnath' lives and a boy named Banku meets him

FLASHBACK STORY:

There is also a flashback in the story, where Madhav Mathews, the author of 'Ghost of Sultanpur' himself writes stories of ghosts But there is a time when they meet a man to write the story, whose character is played by Abhishek Bannerjee. He has done wonderful acting.

The name of this character is the Fakir who can achieve some powers by doing black magic. Fakir's character brings a very interesting turn in the story. Given this, it comes at a time when I remember 'Harry Potter' and 'Voldemort'.

BACKGROUND MUSIC:

Because it is a horror story, it goes after assuming that music should be suppressed, otherwise the viewer gets bored very quickly. Usually, in every horror movie, it happens that there is less light, silence and intense music. Then suddenly something happens that the viewer is scared. This is a special consideration in the web series. The use of a strong background score keeps the suspense and horror of this series intact.

ACTING:

Talking about acting, everyone has done a better job. Nice to see Purab Kohli playing the role of Inspector after a long time. Polomi Ghosh has played the role of the granddaughter of Madhav Mathew, who is in the center of this story and also a ghost, which is killing people in the middle, is also an important part of the series.

Ghost Club Leader is a 10-year-old girl - Sameera Anand. This role has been played by Arna Sharma, who has done well. All the rest have done a great job on their character.

Abhishek Bannerjee has once again proved that he was perfect in the role of a Fakir.

Already from the episode, it seems that the plot is being pulled long. This is also because many people come apart from the original story in between. Those parts could be reduced. Like the story of Eli AvrRamn story of the childhood of Fakir and its arrest. There was scope for running scissors in these places.
But in spite of all this, it is certain that these 5 episodes take you to a 'rollercoaster ride', where you mingle in this story and start enjoying it.

This is the story of Dronacharya of Bihar who made Arjuna the greatest of Eklavya. Bihar's Genius mathematician and teacher Anand Kumar, who left his happy career, sacrificed his love and taught 30 such children to IIT, who were total without any means. This movie tells her story. Angry Young Man was born with the rise of Amitabh Bachchan in the '70s. The richer the box office will fill the same. And this would make Formula Super 30 a big success film.

Director Vikas Bahal Flim has kept the command of himself completely. Each and everything reflects the life of Anand. You get hurt in when Anand fails and you feel happy when success. This is the biggest achievement a director can achieve.

Speaking of acting, the Greek Grand of Indian Cinema Hrithik Roshan presented for the first time in Deglaam Avatar, in which Hrithik Roshan was completely successful, however, there was a flaw in the pronunciation of Bihari language, but that defect was fully covered. Mrinal Thakur had no longer length role, but, she proved that in the future, there is a very big spot for her in Bollywood.

Apart from this, artists like Virender Saxena and Amit Shah have performed well. Anand Kumar's 30 children, all actors made natural acting. The cinematography and writing of the film is also good, which is helpful in making the film successful. The film is good which can be seen at a time.
