Dukan Diet

April 20, 2011

Via latinoreview.com

Jennifer Lopez, Kate Middleton, Giselle Bundchen, and Penelope Cruz are followers of the Dukan Diet. This diet was created by Frenchman Dr. Pierre Dukan, who was an MD and nutritionist. Despite that, other nutritionists say there is not enough nutritional value to the diet, however, you can lose weight.

Everydiet.org has a nice breakdown of the program as well as some pros and cons to the diet which is as follows:

The Dukan Diet is based around eating high-protein foods while severely limiting all carbohydrates including fruits, starchy vegetables, legumes and whole grains. Unlike the Atkins diet the emphasis is on sources of protein that are low in fat such as fish, poultry and reduced-fat dairy products.

Phase 1: The Attack Phase

The first phase of Dukan is followed for one to ten days depending on how much weight you have to lose. Dieters are told they can expect to lose between seven and ten pounds within the first five days.

Dieters are warned that they may experience bad breath and a dry mouth during this phase, which may be alleviated to some degree by drinking more water.

Phase 2: The Cruise Phase

In this phase of the Dukan Diet, days of protein only are alternated with days of protein and vegetables. The types of vegetables allowed in this phase are limited to those that do not contain starch such as lettuce, spinach, celery, cucumber, asparagus and tomato. Vegetables can be consumed raw, steamed, or in soups and stews.

Phase 3: The Consolidation Phase

This is the maintenance phase and commences once you have achieved your goal weight. You will continue to base your diet on protein and vegetables but are also allowed one portion of fruit as well as two slices of whole-grain bread each day. In addition you are permitted one extra serving of carbs per week, which may include foods like pasta or rice.

Phase 4: The Stabilization Phase

This is the ongoing lifestyle phase of the Dukan Diet. In this phase you are instructed to go back to eating whatever you like while continuing to use the rules of the Consolidation Phase as a guideline. One day of the week dieters are instructed to eat only protein.

Pros

· Fast results in the initial stages can help to boost motivation.

· Does not require calorie counting.

· Includes vegetarian options.

· Includes a meal plan and recipes.

· In the final phases of Dukan the ‘celebration meals’ can help psychologically to improve adherence to the diet.

Cons

· Highly restrictive and requires elimination of many healthy foods including fruit, grains, legumes and nuts.

· Some dieters do not respond well to low carbohydrate diets like Dukan and can experience fatigue and mood swings.

· Many dieters experience constipation, headaches and bad breath on high-protein diets.

· Not suitable for those with a history of gout, high cholesterol, kidney disease or eating disorders.

· Dietary boredom is highly likely due to the limited food choices, especially for those who don’t enjoy eating animal products.

· Encourages consumption of artificial sweeteners and diet soda.

There’s more detail, like the food choices, on Everydiet. Would you be willing to try this diet?

According to Jive Records: The release of Femme Fatale follows the recent video premiere of the apocalyptic club thumper and Top 10 hit, "Till The World Ends" on VEVO. The video is currently on heavy rotation on MTV, MTV Hits, MTV Tres and VH-1.

Additionally, Spears is earning accolades with Femme Fatale: Rolling Stone magazine gave the album 4 out 5 stars and claims that "Femme Fatale may be Britney's best album...". The Associated Press adds, "Spears once again sizzles, and her flame burns as bright as ever," and People Magazine raves, "One of the best start-to-finish albums of her career..."

It’s hard to believe Britney started back in 1998 with …Baby One More Time (Jive Records). Who knew she’d be such a successful performer?

British author JK Rowling is considering bringing the magically gifted Harry Potter back as an e-Book series, according to her spokeswoman. The famous author has already sold about 450 million copies of her vividly famous witch and wizardry tales, and the change to e-Book format is overdue for some fans.

“It is akin to the Beatles allowing their music to be launched on iTunes,” says Claire Squires, director of Stirling University’s Centre for International Publishing and Communication, to the Scotsman.

While we wait for news about an e-Book release, many are anticipating the final Harry Potter film coming to theaters this summer. Until then, “I solemnly swear I am up to no good.” – Harry Potter

Spock and the Transformers ?: in the New upcoming film: Transformers: Dark of the Moon

March 31, 2011

HA, Ha ! Maybe you guessed it , but Yes ! Leonard Nimoy (Spock from Star Trek) will be joining the Cast of Transformer for the next film. ( click the link for another Really interesting role he may play) Optimus Prime has a predecessor named Sentinel Prime, that will be voiced by Leonard Nimoy. Shia Labeouf as Sam Witwicky, Hugo Weaving as Megatron, Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, and many our other favorites will be back, minus a thinner dark haired beauty...of course...lol ( oh well can't have it all...)

Inside Movies states, Director Micheal Bay admits he had toyed with the idea of inviting him to play a voice in the second movie, Revenge of the Fallen, but wasn’t sure he could pay the veteran actor enough. “I was too scared to ask him,” the director says. “Plus, he’s married to Susan Bay, who’s a cousin of mine. So I had to be careful. I’ve met him at family functions. But he told me, ‘I would be honored. I’m glad to be back!’”

Bay has been open about changing course with this third Transformers movie and making a stronger story than the critically pulverized last one. He says part of that is giving the metallic characters a bit more soul, even if they’re villains. “The robots have more character in this movie. Much more. You really understand their struggle, on both sides actually,” Bay says.

The 3-D Transformers: Dark of the Moon opens July 1.

Radiation.... serious, it’s affect on food sources, water, air, cell phones, airport scanners…

Radiation…. Knowledge Is Power

March 31, 2011

Radiation.....

U.S. reports say the readings are up and down (pretty much depending upon what news source you go to, when, what area you’re looking at, and of course, what type of radiation the source is talking about). Now we have confirmation there are low level amounts of radiation in milk found in Washington State.

I’ve read and heard a lot about radiation in the newsand about how the levels not being serious, it’s affect on food sources, water, air, cell phones, airport scanners… and everyone is having discussions about it from ABC News to Dr. Oz. Fantastic, I say, because as Sir Francis Bacon stated, knowledge is power.

Here are two maps showing air radiation levels in the U.S., but keep in mind, the data may vary because of what devices are used and what radiation is being measured:

The EPA has a U.S. map showing their air/radiation monitoring data.

The Radiation Network’s U.S. map is also available for people to see their air/radiation readings.

Just yesterday the EPA and FDA released a joint statement about radiation monitoring efforts. Here’s a section of that statement that concerns me:

“Radiation is all around us in our daily lives, and these findings are a miniscule amount compared to what people experience every day. For example, a person would be exposed to low levels of radiation on a round trip cross country flight, watching television, and even from construction materials,” said Patricia Hansen, an FDA senior scientist.

Now, no disrespect to Patricia Hansen or the FDA, but here’s my concern –

Granted most of us wander around, daily, dealing with radiation levels of all kinds, but what is the impact of all those brief, miniscule “touches” if you will, over time? Or just in succession? In 2009, ABC News reported that Americans were exposed to 7 times more radiation than they were in 1980. And let’s not forget about the data linking small amounts of radiation increasing the risk of cancer.

I know people with asthma, what about them, or anyone else with chronic, respiratory type diseases? How about my friends that don’t have microwaves, or watch TV, or fly? (Yes, I realize this may be rare but people don’t always indulge in technological advances and these scenarios do exist.) Basically…What about the American, or worldwide citizen for that matter, who is sensitive to the environment?

Here are two maps showing air radiation levels in the U.S., but keep in mind, the data may vary because of what devices are used and what radiation is being measured:

The EPA has a U.S. map showing their air/radiation monitoring data.

Week 2 of DWTS: Surprise!

If you're just wanting to know who is out of the running....

Last night, team Schwimmerwood was voted off Dancing with the Stars. Mike Catherwood and Lacey Schwimmer were the first dancing duo to have to bow out of the contest, which was gracefully done.

Grammy nominee Chris Brown lit up the floor literally with two performances last night. Yeah 3X was the first number and later he performed “Forever.” :: check ABC for the has the complete performences.

DWTS fans see weight loss results all the time over the course of the shows from stars like Marie Osmond, many others.

Dancing, experts suggest, is a great way to reduce stress, lose weight and even in some cases, 'busting a move' can prevent diseases. Could you upbeat demeanor be tied to all the fancy moves you can put down?

The Nintendo 3DS is out and fans are excited. One of the biggest fans of all, Isaiah Triforce Johnson, was reportedly in line for the device around a full week prior to the release at the Union Square Best Buy. Unfortunately, there was some controversy over his enthusiasm for the tech toy, but it seems things worked out and he was THE FIRST to receive the 3DS from Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America.

There is one drawback to the device being reported by USA Today and others - a ‘black screen of death,’ however so far it doesn’t appear to be a widespread issue. Check out the game titles available the device. Will you be playing one?

He's known as the soul man of G-funk, and before his first album had ever been released, Nate Dogg made appearances on several huge hits: "Regulate" with Warren G, 2Pac's All Eyez on Me, and the soundtrack to Murder Was the Case. The cousin of Snoop Dogg, Nate was born in Los Angeles and began working with Warren early in the '90s. By 1994, the duo hit number two on the pop charts with "Regulate," from the soundtrack to Above the Rim. The two later severed their relationship, with Warren going on to multi-platinum success. Nate scored again in 1996 with "Never Leave Me Alone," featuring Snoop, and released his debut album, G-Funk Classics, Vols. 1 & 2, early the following year on Interscope

Is South Park going to Broadway ?: ah kinda ...

2011-03-26T10:53:00.002-07:00

South Park and the Book of Mormon goes to Broadway :(Melody sung: dum, dum, dum, dum, dum)

March 26, 2011

Ok not, South Park , but the creators , Trey and Matt Stone . Their now Broadway Producers...WHAT ?

That's right ! They have teamed up with a Tony a Tony ,Award winning Producer named Robert Lopez who co-wrote, Avenue Q. So,the idea came from Trey Parker. According to the Hollywood Reporter Trey says ,
Growing up in Colorado, next door to Utah, Parker and Stone had long been familiar with the Mormon church and its members; Parker even dated a Mormon girl and was badly hurt when she ditched him.,which were guessing was the inspiration for the "Mormon episode" on South Park ....for who remember or click this link...sing with us ....Ready sing.... (Melody sung: dum, dum, dum, dum, dum) ! LOL

Back to the Hollywood Reporter story,
At 41, he ( Trey Parker) is no longer the enfant terrible who became notorious for lampooning everyone and everything — from Tom Cruise to Paris Hilton to Muhammad — and, along with Stone, even appearing in a dress at the Oscars. Rather, there’s a high seriousness to him that might surprise South Park aficionados.

On producer Scott Rudin’s advice, Parker and Stone went to see the writer-composer’s Tony-winning Avenue Q, then took him for a drink.
“Bobby said, ‘I want to do something about Joseph Smith,’ ” recalls Stone, the younger and more extroverted of the South Park duo, referrring to the founder of the Mormon religion. “And we were like: ‘Wait! We want to do something about Joseph Smith!’ ” Ready sing.... (Melody: dum, dum, dum, dum, dum) !

In 2006, Parker and Stone flew to London, where they spent three weeks with Lopez while he was working on the West End production of Avenue Q. “We wrote four or five songs and came up with the basic germ of the idea there — that they would go somewhere not Salt Lake City-like,” Parker recalls.
During the next few years, the trio met frequently to develop what they initially called The Book of Mormon: The Musical of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Book of Mormon, about two young missionaries who are sent to Uganda. Ready sing.... (Melody: dum, dum, dum, dum, dum) !

“When someone goes, ‘Oh, this group is really pissed off at what you said,’ there’s not a piece of my body that goes, ‘Sweet!’ ” Parker asserts. “That means I did it wrong. I’m just trying to make people laugh.”
Which is precisely what he says he’s trying to do with Mormon.

If anything, the shock element seems a distraction, as if Stone and Parker were reminding us they’re still the South Park creators of old when in truth they’re reaching for something new.
“South Park is way bigger than either of us,” he says. “And it’s this curse, and when we are doing it, I hate it. I’m pissed off and I’m tired, and every single Tuesday I say, ‘This is the worst show we’ve ever done!’ It’s brutal. But it’s something I am a part of that’s bigger than I am. That’s what most important.”
Says Rudin: “It’s this thing that happens rarely in the culture, where something very subversive is also very affirmative. It has affirmative values but also tears down every possible institution.”
That combination has resulted in an enterprise worth hundreds of millions of dollars. South Park T-shirts alone generated some $30 million in sales in the late ’90s.

Watch and Learn Chefs on : "Modernist Cuisine" or "Molecular Gastronomy

March 24, 2011
ZAGAT reported :Nathan Myhrvold's momentous Modernist Cuisine has raised some interesting questions in the culinary world. Who exactly will use the cookbook? Are chefs ready to embrace such a forward-thinking methodology? And, most immediately, what do we even call this new style of cooking? The term “molecular gastronomy” has been widely used, but with the publication of Myhrvold's new book, there's been a shift toward calling it simply "modernist" cuisine. At the recent, star-studded Modernist Breakfast at Jean Georges in NYC, we asked a few chefs for their thoughts on the name debate. very wrong.

Banksy neither produces or profits from the sale of greeting cards,

13 Things Baristas Won’t Tell You

Sources: Baristas from Starbucks and independent cafes and coffee carts in Seattle, New York, Pennsylvania, and London, England Shine.yahoo.com by Reader's Digest Magazine

Here are some of those listed (click the above link to see them all):
12. Latte art isn’t merely decorative.
If a heart or a pinwheel design holds in the milk it means that the consistency of the foam is good and the shot was pulled well. If you’re at a place that does foam artwork, and you don’t get a good picture, that means your drink is not well made.

11. A bigger cup doesn’t mean more coffee
Starbucks’ Venti (20 oz) and Grande (16 oz) each contain two shots of espresso. The Venti just has more milk. So if it’s caffeine you're after, size doesn’t matter.

8. Yes, I went to school for this.
Starbucks sends employees to barista school for two weeks, where they study the history of coffee, the entire coffee menu, and how to turn milk into velvety foam.

7. Just because they’re vegan doesn’t mean our cakes are good for you.
They are LOADED with white sugar.

R.I.P. Pinetop Perkins

March 21, 2011

Mississippi native, Delta blues pianist and 2004 Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement winner Joe Willie Perkins “Pinetop Perkins” has passed away today at the age of 97.

Being a self-taught musician, he had told the Associated Press: “I didn’t get no schooling. I come up the hard way in the world.” Despite this, his music was said to have influenced artists like Ike Turner and the Rolling Stones.

According to Pinetop’s bio on his website:

Pinetop also received a National Heritage Fellowship in 2000 from the National Endowment of the Arts. He has been featured in the documentary Piano Blues, directed by Clint Eastwood for the Martin Scorsese PBS series, The Blues. In addition, he continued to win the Blues Music Award for best blues piano every year until 2003, when he was retired from the running and the award was renamed the Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year.

The iTunes store has a collection of some of his music, including the 2010 Grammy winning album "Joined at the Hip: Pinetop Perkins & Willie "Big Eyes" Smith" via Telarc. Did you enjoy his music?
